Bobobie and Resinsoul Discussion - Part 12!!

Big congratulations @Syrill glad he arrived safely then! And I wish you well settling in with your new baby so exciting!

The diary of my bigger boy body continues grateful he will sit now but the arms are still so bad. Hot glued and wired. Wire wasn't enough to help the shoulders nor a normal amount of hot glue. I know you said there are no locking mechanisms @Havra but mine does have this poorly designed upper arm at the shoulder that has a single ledge to lock into 90 degree outstretched position. Because of it when the joint rotates into anything other than 3 positions (straight down or up, or 90 degrees) there is no good contact inside the shoulder socket, space. If the shoulder were just a normal round shape without the lock it would be perfectly fine with basic hot glue for friction.
So anyway, I have an insane amount of glue in there now and it barely almost is somewhat better. But I have to improve it and I think it may just need complete modification. I like this body appearance a lot and how lightweight it is, but I want to respectfully write Resinsoul and ask for them to sculpt new plain upper arm joints.

 

@AlisonVonderland Maybe I do remember there being a lock at the armpit... which was fairly useless for natural posing for the reasons you describe. If a piece of wire going all the way through his chest from forearm to forearm isn't getting those shoulders under control, maybe you need stronger wire? At a certain point you're limited by the width of the stringing channel but that might be something to try. If the elbow joints are too skinny for more wire you could try one forearm to forearm piece coupled with one bicep to bicep piece, just to give the shoulders a bit more hold.

For the record, I wire all my dolls by default, (shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, jointed hands) even those that came at a much higher price point. It's not just Resinsoul suffering these issues.

Yeah I'm sure there are multiple ways to fix it. Well, I Have dolls from many origins, and my demands aren't high, this one is just giving me special grief. I also find wiring the arms is extremely hard for me now. I'm having significant hand problems I have to work around for everything. Anyway just wanted to update. Sometimes you never know what someone else finds useful to read in the future. I'll get his shoulders eventually.. maybe... Mostly he is on my dresser very pretty. As usual the eccentricities are not ruining my enjoyment.

 

If anyone has jointed hands for 1/3 and/or 70cm dolls, how good are they? Are they the same size as the regular rs hands? I am very tempted to get some for my Cen and my Yang in the future, but I figured I'd ask for impressions first

 

I have some for my Charisma (she's on the 68 cm RS girl body - I think the "Ling" body IIRC) and I love them. I think the fingers are slightly longer than the regular hands, but it's hard to be sure because of course the regular hands have slightly bent fingers.
At the time I got her regular hands, the jointed hands and the Charisma hands for her, but I've actually only ever used the jointed hands.

I finally chose a head for my 68 cm "bigger" girl body - a Volks SD10 Cristal/Crystal head. Loving it:


I ended up swapping out the jointed hands she had previously for DF-H 68 cm hands. The resin is pretty close (paper white vs. paper white), and I like the proportions better.

 

Oh Qian is gorgeous in blue! I can't justify getting a second one in that colour, but having seen yours, the temptation certainly is there

 

@Tagath I will enable any and all fantasy colors. The blue is just so nice! It's definitely blue, but it's not over the top like the sky blue is (which is wonderful for its own reasons). I wanted more subtle for this character, and was debating on getting him in grey instead.

And since my dolly arrivals all come together, I rescued the saddest looking Bobobie Elena? (I promise I'm not rich guys, just stuff all arrives at once/my luck comes in shifts. She's literally my cheapest doll to date). She's missing a headcap and is the floppiest gal, but she's sweet. I emailed Bobobie to see if I can get a replacement headcap, but if not I'll get to work with some apoxie sculpt. I'll give her a good scrub first, new elastics. I'm unsure if I'll keep her, but if I do she might get dyed.

@Thymeseer - she really is quite somber, isn't she? She looks like she's saying, "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed" at - well, everything.
What a lovely sculpt though! Congrats on rescuing her! What color were you thinking? I'm thinking of dyeing the horse body for my Resinsoul Dawn, but she's a mini, so I'll continue my discussion there.

 

I just painted my Qian! He's a zombie, but was specifically raised as a mute assistant to a wizard. Someone else now "owns" him and appreciates him much more. I need to take proper pictures of him. And the rest of my dolls.

@MaleficentMrsofEvil I'm unsure on what color for now. I kind of want to try something crazy? Multiple colors/patches, but I need to pick a theme for her (my wizard group? My more general fantasy group?) got her all scrubbed (the water was GRAY and nasty) and restrung but I'm waiting on larger elastic. I made a headcap out of apoxie sculpt. It's not perfect, but it's functional, and I'll work on it over time.

@Thymeseer she is quite disappointed indeed. She looks like she would be the manager of the wizards, and they have failed to do as they were told.
I love that sculpt. She cleaned up very nicely!

For folks who own the 72cm body, do general 70cm clothes fit it? Or is there a specific doll body that it can share clothes with? I'm planning a future purchase and want to know where I can get clothes and shoes for him

 

Hey friends, does anyone know what size of silicone washers fit the RS Mi body? I don't have the time to be faffed with sueding her right now, but I'm also running out of patience with how kicky she is!

 

I'd say 10-20 mm (1-2cm) diameter by 0.5 mm thickness, and insert very gently. They are thin and tear easily.
Use 30-40mm diameter for larger joints (30mm for neck, 40mm for hips).

Forgive the horrendous photo, but my Pandora's body finally came in! I love her in all her noodly glory! I initially planned for her to be a blonde, but the one unclaimed wig I had wasn't quite the right shade, and I'm falling in love with the red.

My sky blue Pandora dreams have finally come true. I also only know one pose to put my dolls in

Yeah Bobobie's website doesn't work for me either. Not on my android phone or my computer. Both using Chrome. Resinsoul's website works on my phone but on my computer I get some security risk thing and when I "force" it to go anyway it goes to some media facade website rather than resinsoul.com. If i google resinsoul and click the link...same thing. Really frustrating when I have to look up measurements for clothes buying.

 

resinsoul.com is working again for me! I think it was just a security certificate that expired and they had to renew it.

 

It seems resinsoul has a new 72cm boy. And maybe a new body too?
The body looks nice, but I feel the neck looks a little short, at least with that head. I'm also not super convinced by the head, but part of that might be the faceup

 

Yay, I was hoping they would make a body like Cen's for the 72 cm size. Thank God I didn't place an order for the Yi body last week as I had originally planned, lol. A Vet-bill forced me to change my plan and order at the end of this month instead. Lucky. ^^
And my pet is fine again, too. ^_^

 

The new body looks really nice! Though i agree the neck does look a little short

I wonder if they'll revamp some of their other bodies too! Something in between the 61 cm Cen and this 72cm with this kind of sculpting would be really nice

 

I asked RS for blank pics of Ximen and Baili just now, hopefully the boys just have unflattering faceups (though the noses look a little short to me? Maybe it's the angles, idk)

 

I also wonder if they'll revamp or release a new 1/3 girl body soon! a bigger scale version of Lina's would be so pretty!

 

I'd personally love bust options for the 1/3 girlies, the 1/4s have so many different unique bodies and busts and a lot of the newer ones are exchangeable but the 1/3s only get the one bust per body that aren't really compatible with each other

 

I put Yi and Baili next to each other, for a direct comparison. Not perfect, but it'll have to do.
Baili's head seems a tad bigger, the neck is wider and his shoulders are a bit higher (maybe). But I don't have the feeling that his neck is too short. I think it's because of the bigger head and its position. It might look different from another angle.

Sorry for the double post, but I just noticed that a third new guy popped up on Resinsoul.
I like this one a lot better. That head sculpt looks way better with fantasy parts and non-human skin color. I think he'd look great in green, for instance.

And all three are on discount.

 

I’m a big fan of his ears and fangs haha. Not getting one because I don’t have a character for him, but I like him!

 

Resinsoul got back to me about the photos! Baili is definitely my favorite (also, comparing them, I'm pretty sure Que is Ximen with fangs, while Baili is a unique sculpt on his own. Ximen and Que have the same eye shape, while Baili's eye shape is rounder and softer)

Just finished restringing a Mi on Su body I stumbled across on Ebay. Man I forgot how much effort it takes to string a doll lol.

But anyway, this body (if it is indeed the Su body) has "mobility" thighs that aren't all that mobile. They're like an oval on the inside so they can twist maybe a cm or two and that's it. Basically a wasted joint. Oh well I still like her lol.

Still working through her character for now. I already have a guitarist, bassist, drummer, two vocalists, and even a light/sound tech. Thinking of possibly a rhythm guitarist or just a second guitarist. Thinking of modeling her off Tatiana Shmayluk from Jinjer...at least aesthetically. But for sure she will have a different name. I modeled my RS Ling off Maria Brink from In This Moment and named her Maria...and idk if I ever really liked it.

Yes! But she’s had it for a few years now, I think she’s due for a new one when I have some spare time.

@blueboy57 I think a lot of these non functional mobility joints are really a casting decision. I wonder if it's easier to break the legs into two parts and/or it uses less resin to cast since they can make it hollow easier. My dolls with all one piece upper legs tend to be heavier with smaller string channels. Though then why they don't bother to actually turn them into mobility joints? Your dolls sound awesome, post pictures when you can!

I looooooove the new boys! Definitely on my horribly long and ever growing wishlist. A grey Que maybe...and @SugarPineapple she's such a beauty! And while she may be an odd hybrid, it's a lovely combination!

I repainted my Elena, who really reminds me of a 1/3 size Mei without elf ears. Same slight wonk to her eyes, I think. She still looks melancholy (now it's part of her character) and all my art related endeavors have not turned out right, but I'm content for now. Now that I've painted her, she's mine. Her eyebrows and eyelashes would not come off completely no matter how/with what chemical I scrubbed. Weird for a company face up, but she is pretty old and was in rougher shape when I got her.

Can someone with the newer Cen body and the bigger boy body (this one) tell me how tall they each are without heads? I'm thinking of asking them for a custom body kind of mashing aspects of them, but i'm trying to guesstimate about how tall to request it.

 

If that's the Yang body, I measured mine at 62cm without head. For the Cen body, 50cm. I could be a little off, but not by much

I'm a newbie to dolls so it's gonna take me a while to style him, but even naked and wigless I absolutely love him
The shipping was super quick with DHL, and the doll itself looks so much like the reference I sent them. They even airbrushed the transitional fur to skin on the torso just like the picture, bless them.

He has a custom goat tail, they did a really great job with it! The magnet it attaches with is riiight up between his butt cheeks... but once it's attached it makes a nice silhouette and looks fluffy

Yes he is mostly Cen, the ears are similar to Ruoxi's and the legs are Mu's

Oh i just looked through the album- they even made a blank head too?!!

 

Yes, they did all of it! I coloured the reference picture to show how I thought it would look on a "real" satyr, and asked them to make it look as natural as possible. I was expecting them to do a more simple/straight gradient honestly, so really happy with how they did it!

The blank head was an extra $65, totally worth it! So I can try out doing his faceup without worrying about ruining the doll

 

He looks so great! I'm really impressed with everything I've heard about Resinsoul's custom orders

 

I painted my Pandora! She brings me a lot of joy especially now that she has eyebrows.
