Bobobie and Resinsoul Discussion - Part 12!!

Hmm... gotta say, I love the sculpting on the new 60 cm body. I think I may wait to see if they update the 68 cm body before I get one.

 

So... anyone else in love with the new Qian?

 

He's super cute! He's gone on my list, for sure (my long, long list of RS sculpts I want )

I do wish they'd just put blank pics of all their sculpts on the listings, though. I've asked them for a few already this year and feel annoying asking for another when I can't buy the actual doll yet, it gives me the same feeling as walking into a store to ask questions or use the restroom and not buying anything

 

I ordered Qian in blue! But through DDE so I could put him on a long layaway. I'm debating on making him some kind of undead instead of a drow. But he'll be pretty darn it! I'm hoping to see him around Easter with how long it takes through DDE.

I really want to buy a bobobie Apollo but I heard bobobie customer service is awful compared to resinsoul,any advice would be appreciated.

 

@sylvesther If you're wanting the full doll in any of their regular resin colors, you can get Bobobie dolls from Denver Doll Emporium. They might even have one in the color you want in stock!

 

I just want the head,the body I'll buy directly from resinsoul I do see his head available on DDE which I'm happy about but then again I'm also doubtful because I also heard DDE is infamous for their long time waiting and poor communication skills I really need to think about this

 

I think if it's an in stock doll/head it should be fine right? I've only ordered from them once (in stock) and it went smoothly.

 

I've ordered from DDE frequently, and I can tell you from personal experience that as long as you are nice, you shouldn't have a problem. It's when customers get, erm, snippy that they start to have problems.
They do tend to have longer wait times, but they order from Fairyland and Resinsoul regularly, including purchasing in-stock dolls, so those tend to arrive faster.
They have an Apollo doll in stock right now, but it's the last one, so if you want it, go quickly. In stock dolls that I have purchased are frequently shipped the same day or the next business day - and they work Saturdays, too.
Edited to add: have you emailed Resinsoul directly to ask if they could get Apollo for you? Mei is technically a Bobobie sculpt, and they sell her all the time.

 

@sylvesther I emailed Resinsoul earlier this year about getting an Apollo on the Cen body and they said it was possible, so if you are still wanting him, try emailing them.

I myself want a different body, but my boy if from 2009, so he won't match a new body. I figured it'd be less of a hassle to just get a new Apollo. I am also really really tempted to get a Mi.

So I had my Mi on a body that I just did NOT like. It posed terribly, and it wasn't pretty, either. Plus, it's banned on DOA, so peace out, home slice.
I sold it with zero regrets and snagged an in-stock 68 cm white body for her. It's gonna be so nice to be able to show off my lovely Mi again. I love that sculpt. And now I get to see a 68 cm female body in person!

 

...aaaand it's here! I purchased in-stock from DDE, and she arrived with a broken finger. Le sigh. DDE is sending a replacement hand, and I was like, "Well, since you're ordering..." Lol. I lost a flat foot for the 60 cm body (how do you lose a foot? I dunno, but I lost it), and I want a second pair of heel feet in NS, cuz if you have a doll that doesn't fit "1/3" shoes - RS heel feet fit everything.

I love the 68 cm body much more than I thought I would, and I think Mi's head perches on the body very nicely. It's very pretty in person, and it's a BIG girl body. I like big.

 

Hey y'all, I'm looking at maybe getting a Bai as my Christmas/Birthday present for myself this year (if money works out, that is), but I'm confused about her eye size. RS's website doesn't list it, and DDE lists her coming with a random pair of 14mm eyes. That seems small to me? Mi and the other 1/3 girls all take 16-18mm, so is this a typo from DDE? Or are 14's suitable for the 60cm girls, too?

 

It can be a function of how big Bai’s eye wells are versus the other girls. From what I’ve experienced, girls tend to have larger eyes than boys, although this isn’t a hard and fast rule!

I tend to prefer smaller eyes myself. That isn’t to say you can’t switch out Bai’s eyes for 16s if you prefer that!

It makes perfect sense to think that similarly-sized dolls from the same company would have the same size eyes! I hope Bai is perfect when she arrives to you

 

I love how delicate the hands are!! I ordered the jointed hands for my Resinsoul boy but damn…the regular hands are also so awesome. I’m thinking of ordering Qian next, as I am shelling two of my OCs and want them to somewhat match. I just think Resinsoul have such pretty sculpts!

Almost shouting into the void here but has anyone had any experience with asking for custom parts and skin tones? There are a few characters I want to shell into their sculpts but they would require some modding and I wondered about pricing/wait times.

 

@EphemeralDarkness - while I don't have personal experience, from everything I've read, custom orders with Resinsoul are a delight and a joy. Affordable and gorgeous.
In the waiting room, there's a couple examples: gorgeous black resin, transparent smoky-gray, a stunning purple-and-black custom, and an achingly beautiful pink and transparent pink little centaur. These are all recent DOA links, and I'm hoping at least one of the posters would be happy to discuss their experiences with you.
I emailed Resinsoul directly to ask for Ya on the Shi body, and the turn-around time was under two months from order to my house in Midwest USA.
Editing to add: I'm fairly sure @Kitty Blue has asked for custom parts before. Hope you don't mind me pinging you...

I know about Ms Kitty Blue's custom orc girl using the 1/4 Tang body, but has anyone requested something similar with their 1/3 bodies before to get a muscular girl at that size? I'm wondering if the 1/4 one worked out so well because they had the toned ab piece from the Dawn body already, but none of the 1/3 girls have any kind of muscle definition, so I'm a little hesitant about inquiring with them if doing something similar is possible.

It's kinda funny because holding him in person I thought it looked less like the photos than I thought, but in the photos I've taken he looks pretty similar to official photos?? It's a little odd, but I like him both irl and in photos so I don't mind

 

He's so cute! And thank you for posting a blank picture, I asked RS but they never replied (I think my email got eaten or lost)

Something so exciting for me, my first doll arrived!!!!!!! It's Yun in purple, she is so striking in person! The color is so vibrant, which really shocked me in a pleasant way. I'm thinking of restringing her, as she seems a bit tight and I think evening the tension on her strings might help her kicky left arm. I can't tell if this is a good idea or if it would be better to let her chill out for a bit, haha.

 

Restringing and hot-glue sueding these dolls helps a lot - I definitely recommend it. Given their price, Resinsoul dolls need a little assistance to make them good posers. A little wire also will help a bunch. The resin is very smooth, so it needs a little friction.

Also, I've mostly finished his custom, in record times for me. I guess I was really excited about this boy.

 

I bought the Bigger Boy Body for a female character. The pecs are sculpted a little low, and a little round, so I found they look a little bit like a small bust. Never tried asking them to mod the chest, but I bet they’d say yes!

Hey y'all, I was wondering if anyone had pics of the "smooth abdomen" version of the 70cm boy body? I know there's a no-abs version of the Yi body and I swear I've seen people make the same request for the 70cm boy body, but trying to find pics of that specific customization is . I'm trying to decide between the two bodies for a character I want to shell from my favorite video game

 

@Tagath What size eyes do you have in your charming Qian? I want to get my incoming one some new eyes, but I'm waffling between 14mm and 16mm.

I am honestly not sure. I made his eyes with plastic flat buttons I bought on AliExpress a while ago, and they don't even fit in the eyewell that well. But my partner has some eye size testers made by ashuradark, i'll try to borrow that this weekend and check what fits best.

 

Ok, I've checked. 14mm is a little small, there's some gap happening with that size, while 16mm fit perfectly.

Hey everyone, so this is a case of I already need to order new elastic for better stringing but bearing that in mind (please be nice ) I'm struggling with the Resinsoul bigger boy body. I've already added hot glue inside problem joints but I can't get the arms to stay in more fine-tuned outward poses. The shoulder seems to want only two positions and the doll would look better if I can get his arms to pose.
Anyone specifically solve that issue on this body? I am very low spoons and any confirmed success would help me conserve energy.
Additionally.... Sitting up seems to be tough. He is a cantankerous one and wants to fall backwards as well.
Any experiences are appreciated! Thank you

 

Wiring might help the arm issue, I know that's a common recommendation for RS bodies. The thicker elastic might help the sitting issue, not sure

 

Yeah, new elastic will do something but the arms, the shoulders especially, are just killing me. The last RS/BBB body I had was the girl body that came with Pandora and it was quite good after hot glue, not the case here. Usually I find wiring makes the biggest difference in the elbows. Anyway it'll be fine I will just camp out on it and eventually get new elastic too and fiddle.
I might also just felt the shoulders and hips and see if that does it.

@AlisonVonderland Definitely recommend wiring the arms of this body, as they aren't designed with any locks or significant friction areas. Fortunately, since they are pretty lightweight, it doesn't take much oomph to keep them where you want them. I want to say I had something like 14 gauge coated electrican wire in mine, but it might have even been multiple 16 gauge copper wires taped together at the ends...

I don't own this body anymore but I seem to remember mine always sat up very straight and stable provided I ensured the elastic went all the way into the string channel/slot on his thigh ball joint as I changed his hip angle. Maybe this isn't quite what you meant, maybe he's loose, but try this?

When you move his leg, instead of grabbing the thigh as a whole, grab right at his thigh ball joint with your thumb across the slot. Pull the leg slightly out of joint, and as you move it to 90 degrees, confirm you can feel the elastic entering the channel with your thumb. (you might have to rotate slightly to get it to pop in) Then ease the joint back into place with the elastic as far into the channel as it'll go.

That was probably a longwinded explanation, but hopefully it helps.

 

Thank you @Havra for your experiences! It definitely helps. I do remember my last body also was fussy at the hip joints so maybe that's it (you know, plus needing elastic) I will sort it out, and try wiring the arms too probably. Thank you again

He’s here! I’m just adding some small mods to his face, as I do quite like his factory face up. I’ll probably blush him and add to his eye makeup when I get appropriate sealant! I’m just grateful I don’t have to draw eyebrows lmao

He is also bald until further notice, my wig failed so I ordered both a new wig cap and also a spare wig for the time being!

(I know the angle isn’t very flattering, I actually took this to show my boyfriend the septum ring mod! I love his little bit of eye wonk XD Those are the eyes DDE shipped him with but I am waiting on the proper coloured eyes for this character. I was hoping the set would be at least one of the right colours but, alas, my luck ran out)

I love Resinsoul in that their dolls are so much more beautiful in person - but it drives me crazy how bad their old photos are.

Back to my disaster fella (not really but you know) just wanted to say the simple advice about the hip angle and elastic channels solved the issue @Havra thank you! Now that I know to just turn the thigh mobility part a little outward he's sitting fine

And I agree, as much as I love Resinsoul sculpts, their older photos are so awful XD I brought him because his strong nose complimented my OC design, and I just hoped that the photos were in strange lighting. Turns out that was the case! Even his factory face up looks super pretty in natural lighting!!

My custom RS boy arrived recently! I didn't get a shipping notice so he was a complete surprise. He's PERFECT. I plan to document his coming together for DoA... I just had a baby so it'll be a while. Still, he's just perfect!
