Bobobie and Resinsoul Discussion - Part 11!!

Dec 2, 2016

    1. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but new hooks aren't going to improve his hand mobility. The problem isn't the hook, but the old placement the the pivot bar that the hook is hooked to. They've fixed the problem in newer dolls, but since your boy is old you're kinda stuck like that unless you want to mod his hands or get new ones. The bar for the hook needs to be placed in the center of the wrist ball for good mobility, being on the bottom edge of the hand means whenever you move it, the string tension will pull it back down into the wrist socket and straight again. Also, you can fix the gouging by curving the ends of the hooks in a little with a pair of pliers since they stick out. There is nothing wrong with the shape or length of the hook otherwise.

      • x 1
    2. Actually shorter hooks helped a bit. He can now swivel his hands around without a horrible gouging noise and without any friction. Can't bend them sure, but he can at least twist his hands so that's a plus. For 80p it was worth it and I have some spares for other fixes as and when needed.

Presumably newer hands would solve the issue having the actual socket of the hand higher, and I might get him some jointed hands in the future because why not? but for now, at least they can rotate and there's no longer resin being gouged out. In my books, that's a win.
I intend to get a new body for one of my other dolls at some point anyway so maybe saving for some new parts heh. A nice msd body for my hujoo, and some new hands for Long.
His hands are the most discoloured part of him. Which is a bit odd, I wonder why that is.
But for now, he can hold stuff and the gouging has stopped so yaaaay.

Now to wait for his outfit to be sewn. He's gonna look pretty!

    3. Has anyone wired the RS jointed hands and how did it work out?

    4. Finally got around to giving Nyta (my Lian) a new face-up... Not convinced it's actually an improvement, however my spacefaring smuggler is pleased to be back in one piece again:

    5. that critter on her shoulder is cute!

    6. I have a Long and he doesn't have hooks. I have to string him through the wrist and ankle. In fact, I have to restring him as his elastic has gotten quite floppy. I never took him apart before and just assumed his hands and feet would have hooks. They don't. Maybe someone added them to your doll? Or mine is just very old .... I bought him maybe 9 years ago? Now I'm trying to decide what size stringing elastic to use as I have to be sure it will pass through the hands and feet. Ugh.

Oops. I posted this at the wrong place. Sorry.

    7. Yours is just very old. They all have hooks nowadays. When you restring him, save yourself some frustration and put some hooks in.

    8. @purple_monkfish, Thanks! He's a tea-monster/snek from Worms and Bones... And actually has more ball joints than the average bjd.

    9. Wow ball and sockets huh? I'm teaching myself how to make typical soft sculptures with the wires and it's going okay. I'm onto my second attempt which needs his wings and longer fur ridge along his back and tail to be actually DONE heh.

I'm curious about the insides of these ones though. They have giant spiders and I waaaaant lol

Once i'm done with the cast of my D&D party, stage 2 is populating their environment with monsters and wildlife hahaha. Dire spiders, bears, wolves, monsters etc. I'm also on the lookout for imps and other little demonic critters.

    10. @Vetinari I love sneks! I got a rainbow tea monster for my boy too! (glad to know they're popular). Is your girl in the grey or lilac resin?

    11. @purple_monkfish sorry! Didn't see your reply there - I think the spines at least are made from LocLine? I've no idea about the more specialised jointing they probably use for the limbs. Sorry, whilst I've dabbled I'm by no means an expert on artist dolls like these - but I do remember that Worms&Bones did show the internal skeleton of one of their creations somewhere once...

@A Wee Tiefling Thanks! Ooh I'd love to see your little companion tea monster! (One day I really hope to actually have cash in hand when the orders open up for one of their bigger creations, but for now having that adorable little fella as a bjd companion is pretty cool.)

My Lian is in the Sky Blue resin - I'm not sure if it's peoples' cameras or not, but even when she was brand new direct from RS the colour was more akin to blu-tak than the vivid almost turquoises that other people seem to have received. (And yeah though RS-resin is relatively nice/fairly stable for something so intense pigment-wise, she has definitely lost some of the brighter blues over the years when I compare to the inside of her headcap)

    12. @Vetinari Blue is a colour that fades/darkens the fastest in sunlight, at least it does in paint pigments. Maybe it wasn't stabilized before being mixed, so it fades faster?
I love RS and I'm holding off on getting a Rong right now because it's not in my schedule.

I hadn't cash in hand when I bought Bluebells, but I too have wanted a snek soooo badly every time I see Worms and Bones, so I kinda capitalized on the long weekend sale and nabbed her before someone else could. She's a Sand Tea (in Azure, with rainbow floof)

    13. Working with larger SDs - 68 and 70cm instead of 58 or 60 - what kind of scale do you use when working out props for your dolls? Do you just eyeball it, or use a specific formula? With Resinsoul especially there's quite a difference between height and other proportions (if they're human).

Just wanted to share my Mi, whose name is Elliot (El for short). She was modded and painted by Kayke.

I really want to get some pictures of her in natural lighting, but it's hard to find the time :(

      • x 10
    15. She is really pretty. Mi is on my wishlist What was modded on her?

    16. Thanks! Just her nose, actually. I guess you can't tell too awfully much from the front and in this lighting.

    17. She's gorgeous Somewheresunbear! I love that eye make up, really suits her.

    18. Thank you so much!

    19. Quick question on the Resinsoul Bigger Boy body.

How do you get the gangling beauty to slouch?!

    20. I modded mine (72cm body).

    21. I just ordered Feng from Junkyspot! :dance

    22. I love the eyebrows @somewheresunbear - they look great and bushy!

Congrats @ToriaCrux hope you like him. Feng is a gorgeous sculpt, I really like the gentle look he seem to have.

    23. @ToriaCrux Congrats! I've been eyeing Feng for a while but right now I'm in a holding pattern.

    24. I love resinsoul I love the posability and the beautiful sculpts and I want sui so bad and ai they both are gorgeous! And the affordable prices forget fairyland ill take my resinsoul

    25. My Mora (RS Long) recently got a new face-up, courtesy of FirecrackerSparks, and I figured it was about time I stopped lurking in this thread and actually posted something. I told myself I was never going to buy anything bigger than an MSD, but this boy's sculpt was too perfect for shelling one of my characters for me to resist him.

I don't know why, but his face always ends up looking much rounder than it is in real life when I photograph him. It's the weirdest thing.:nowords:

    26. He looks so sweet! A lovely choice @Squishle !

    27. @Squishie that is a super cute faceup hopefully will get long soon

    28. He's here!

    29. Did you guys see the new 70cm boy yang? I'm waiting for more photos! Yay

    30. Jumping in here a bit randomly because I too have much excitement about the new boy, Yang. :whee::dance They added a couple more photos, but sadly none of the potentially new body (?). His face looks really nice and full of potential. I've been considering a Resinsoul 70 cm for one of my characters and Yang might work better for him than my initially chosen sculpt. I hope Resinsoul posts more photos soon. :)

    31. I'm really excited for Yang! He's adorable (and I'm glad their photos are getting better too, LOL) I just emailed and asked them if it's a new body, and if so, if they have any pics of the body... fingers crossed!

    32. The new Yang boy looks amazing! I was hoping to shell some larger characters and he has a lot of potential.

    33. The body is not new, just the head. He comes on the "bigger boy body" which is the same as Long, Dong, and Feng's.

    34. Hi everyone! I can finally join this discussion thread because I just made the first payment on the new boy, Yang!

I just fell in love at first sight and knew that I needed him. And then with the event that Bobobie is doing, I couldn't resist getting him some jointed hands and picking up a 40cm doll, too. I'm super excited to have another Bobobie/ResinSoul doll back in my collection.

    35. Hi all! Can someone either direct me to some good reviews/photos or tell me their experience with the ResinSoul 60cm girl body? I am trying to shell a ballerina and love the willowy proportions of this body, and I would love to hear more about its flexibility and how well it holds poses.

Also, on the site it's listed as 60cm without the head -- can anyone tell me what the height comes out to with a head included? I'm a bit confused because Su appears to be on the same body, but she's listed as 60 cm all together ... I also noticed there's an option for 'coffee' skin but only 'light tan' is shown on the color-comparison. Can anyone confirm they're the same thing?

      Thank you in advance!

    36. Light tan and coffee are the same color. BBB calls it one thing and RS calls it the other, but they are the same. The body will be 60 with a head.

    37. Hi everyone! I'd love to see some more pictures of Su if anyone has any? I think her sculpt would be lovely for one of my characters. Thank you!

    38. @lavalunar hi! I think the body would suit well aesthetically for a ballerina. My Mi Rhea can stand after some gentle trixing, and I think that the arms could benefit from suadeing and thicker elastics than the ones mine came with to hold poses better. I'm very pleased with the body, and think she can do pretty cool stuff, but if you want outrageous ballerina poses perhaps a stand would be advisable so she doesn't tobble over. I've been meaning to order thicker elastics and see how the body improves but haven't yet done so, so I can't say for sure that that would help, but I think so!

    39. Hello all! Im saving up for a Resinsoul Mi atm. I just can't seem to figure out if I want to get my Mi in Dark Tan or Coffee. Does anyone have any comparison photos? Otherwise spam me with you tan dolls!

    40. What eye size do I want for my Gang?
      I just got him today.

The 16mm I have are gappy, with big iris. So I think I must need 18mm to stop the gapping... but then the iris would be even bigger?

All I can think is that I need either eyeco silicone eyes (which bend to eye shapes) or 18mm with... a 14mm iris? But I only know of places which do a single size down iris, not two. Hmmm.

Also, recommendations on places to get clothes from? As I am aware he is a little skinny. Would SD10/13 girl clothes work better?

    41. @Inklet - I have a Mi in dark tan! Unfortunately I don't have a doll in coffee to compare it to, but I think the dark tan is very beautiful. Here she is in a few different kinds of light.

I do however have a tiny piece for resin comparison from Resinsoul:

      20171206_182825

Left is normal skin, middle is coffee, and the foot is dark tan. I apologize for the lighting, but it's already gone dark and I don't have a picture of it in sunlight.

I hope this is helpful in your decision-making.

      • x 10
    42. Lol well that was definitely helpful in my decision-making! She's gorgeous! I loved Mi as soon as she came out but couldn't think of a character for her but while browsing for a potential shell it occurred to me that maybe the answer was there all along!

The Mi body is very graceful - I requested mine with Xue legs because I wanted the thigh joints but I don't know if they have been added as standard as the newest girl is pictured as having them. She required sueding and I second thicker elastic.

And yeah, the Gang body is very skinny - I usually have to pin his trousers at the back and I have put him in Dollheart girls' clothes before.

    43. Thank you so so much! This was incredibly helpful. I was wanting more of a mid-tan, but didn't really wanna get a custom color. I like having all my dolls in different varieties. Im starting to think dark tan is definitely what I was looking for, and even if it wasn't. Every doll I see in dark tan has got me more hyped for ordering my Mi.

    44. So I was being led into temptation elsewhere when I thought I'd have a look at Resinsoul's website, musing about how rarely they do events...and found they are doing a promotion!

If you order a whole set (I guess they mean whole doll) sized 1/4 or 1/3 you can have a free pair of jointed hands. If you order two whole dolls you can get a sleeping head for one of them.

Damn. So the jointed hands could be the push to finally order Ai. And if I order Mi as well I could get a sleeping head which I've recently discovered a weakness for...

It runs til Jan 15th so I really should see how much Christmas wipes me out first but...!!

    45. I just saw the same promotion! I've been looking at Mi for a little while, I find that her sculpt matches one of my characters very well.

I'm not sure this is the right place to ask, but does Resinsoul have promotions like this a few times a year, or is this a once a year type of event? Saving the funds on a pair of jointed hands is a great deal considering the exchange rate from American to Canadian dollars.

I think I'll see how much I have after Christmas to take a decision but I've been meaning to learn how to paint dolls for a while so it could be a great opportunity!

    46. It seems to me very rare that Resinsoul runs an event. I've been in the hobby for a couple of years and this is the first one that I've been aware of, although they may have run another at some point before I was brave enough to start going directly to companies. Because they are comparatively inexpensive they perhaps don't need to nudge people into taking the plunge. On the other hand tho, running an event probably causes a bit of a rush and some companies seem to get a bit swamped - I swear half of Fairyland's event info tends to be asking their customers to stay calm, don't panic and don't cock up their order XD

I am sorely tempted. I do have a bit of a reservation in that it's not going to be a straightforward order. I want Mi but on Xue's body as I already have the newer body for a different doll. And I want Ai but I'd also like additional human legs for her. While I have no doubt Resinsoul would be kind enough to do this, I do feel bad being awkward at what will probably be a busy time :s

    47. I didn't even see the event yesterday... Not that it would have made a difference, I was just there to order a body for my poor Yi head, and I can't afford to order a full doll as well. (And Yi wouldn't appreciate it if I ordered a full doll *instead* of his body. LOL!)

    48. Hi everyone! I just ordered my Mi in light tan ( I have a light tan bobobie doll I adore so the color wasn't a question for too long) and I was wondering where to look for clothes for her. Do you have a suggestion that might fit the best? And shoes as well? I didn't have time to read this thread and I was on a break from the doll hobby in general so I missed out a lot in the last 4 years. Thank you for your help!

    49. Hello everyone!
I was wondering if anyone has any of the 58cm doll heads on the body that is listed as 60cm girl body, or could show me a picture of what that would look like, as I'm considering ordering this combination and the neck circumference difference worries me a little.
      Thanks in advance!

    50. @Tariques I've got a Dai on this body, what kind of pictures do you need ? ^^ mobility/close-up on the neck/larger view ?

    51. @MeredithAijou I'd love to see a full body to see how the proportions look, but also ones for the neck! Thank you so much!

      • x 1
    52. The odd thing is that on the RS website only Ai is listed to have a 9 cm neck. All the others, both 58 and 60 cm are all listed to have an 8 cm neck. I think maybe Ai's a typo, as I think it is possible to have Dan on an Ai body, and I've seen a BBB head on an Ai body which definitely was a bit bobbleheaded (the BBB 60 cm dolls apparently do have 9 cm necks.)

@MeredithAijou - your girl is beautiful. I looked at her album, too. She has a very sweet face.

Edit: I got a mail from Sun that my Yi's body is on its way. I can't wait!

    53. Sorry if this has been asked before but, what size eyes does the Mi take? Is it 16mm?

    54. Somewhere I thought I saw a Dai head on a 68cm body and I wanted to see that again. Does anyone know where that might be? My Google-fu is still learning how to search for dolls.

    55. I'm thoroughly confused. I was looking at the 61cm boy body - the "Gang" body - and both his page and the separate body page list the neck measurement as 9cm. However, DDE's Resinsoul page and the Bobobie Wiki list the neck as 10cm. Does anyone have this body and can confirm? I want to get a body for a head that needs a 10cm neck...

    56. I make it 9cm. A 1cm difference isn't necessarily too bad. You may need to suede the head but that's not too tricky to do. What head are you hoping to put on the body?

    57. I've got a grey Soom Dia head that needs a body, and I want the 60-62 cm range because then he'll fit in with my other boys.

    58. @MeredithAijou Thank you so much!
Super happy that I can make this hybrid and it will look good! :D

    59. Well Dia seems to have a nice neck arch (there must be a technical term. Some dolls have a curve along the bottom edge of their neck, others are sort of flat) and that usually is more forgiving on a smaller neck. Good luck with your hybriding!
