Bobobie and Resinsoul Discussion - Part 11!!

Good to know. Especially if I have to restring my 70+ cm dolls.

I just checked my Resinsoul Gang doll, who was a new doll when I got him, it looks like his body is strung with the 3.5 and his arms with something even smaller. Now I know why he never holds a pose very well. I even wired his arms and they still pinch inwards. Looks like I will have to restring him as well.

 

I've had many Resinsoul dolls and my complaints about their posing are due to them having no "locks" in place to keep a limb partially bent. The arms and legs will bend, they just won't stay in any in between poses since theres nothing there to keep the limb in place. Sueding and/or wiring and/or hot glue is the best treatment for this, imo. Resinsoul does also string their dolls oddly. Every doll I've received new from them has had the elastic knotted in the head. Taking the head off is a chore when they're strung like this.

 

That's funny, I don't have that problem with mine At All. I'm glad you found something that works for you, but sueding and/or wiring and/or hot glue have never worked half as well as super thick elastic for me

My tan Cen arrived on Friday, and I gave him a faceup yesterday

I was worried that I'd struggle with him because he's bigger than I usually go for, but actually I love him. It's a very pretty sculpt, and with a very nice body as well. I can't wait to take more pictures of that boy

I've been feeling pretty neurotic about my Pandora which I guess is always how I've felt about her (big product of circumstance) so I have been adding new/old things into her wardrobe (stuff like I used to love to make and stopped making, and giving her a try on of some of those favorite clothes) and her makeup was really bothering me so I messed with it more and I currently have a very fancy pandora looking like she's in the middle of a week long music festival that she will probably only half remember:

I think this is really fun and I will probably try to enjoy her like this a lot for a season.
I realized I have only been photographing her from very specific angles and never acknowledging her really interesting profile and 3/4 view so this is my resolution for the next period, try to work with that a little bit more.

Thank you! Forcing her back into a main character I guess as much as I really didn't ever want her to have light hair, with the light blonde at least her color doesn't wash out as badly in photos. So that makes my life easier.

 

hey quick question,if this is not allowed mods please then remove,I was wondering if anyone owns a impldoll Idol and a resinsoul bigger boy body(Not to be confused with the 72cm yi/heng) and what they look like side by side thanks in advance.

 

@sylvesther it's not a great photo, but you get the idea. They're about the same height, but there's like 2x more BOY to the Impldoll body.

 

Hello friends! Not entirely sure if this is the thread to ask, but I was super curious if anyone with a Yi could show a comparison of him with the 60cm girl body? Or even put his head on it! I have plans and would really love to combine these two, but I don't want to get too fast with it x)

 

Thymeseer: thank you for the fast response,now I've to make a difficult decision whether I get the 70cm body for yang or there new 60 cm body.
Its so difficult to decide,I want rs Yang as my Loki and I want him smaller then my impldoll Ransom who is 72 cm.

Hello hello!! I'm a long time lurker who just got approved and I've found this thread really helpful as someone who decided on a Resinsoul for my first doll and is currently waiting on it! I wanted to ask: Does anyone in the thread have a Su body? I'm led to believe she's a bit thinner than the other 60cm girl bodies, and her thighs have mobility joints, so I wanted to ask how she poses! Thanks guys

 

OMG! Another Pandora! Ignore the profile pic, that's a very old picture of my girl. Yours looks stunning. I just had to gush and be excited about seeing another one of this sculpt.

 

@sluggoislit hey! There are probably people here with both, I don't have both anymore but I had my Pandora and that body (like su) for a hybrid at the same time. They are definitely completely different. The su body is incredibly thin. She wore clothes about the same witdth as my Obitsu 48cm wore. And the body like Pandora uses is in fact pretty thick for a standard 1/3 size doll. I liked the su body and thought the double joints worked well and it has an extremely different appearance but I had a lot of trouble getting her to feel stable. I think if I got one again I would have to wire the legs. My Pandora on the other hand is just sueded with a bit of hot glue and she has a presence like a little freight train, very heavy and stable. I hope that's helpful at all.

Anyone have both a Rui and an Ai they could do a couple of side-by-side shots of please? Or better yet, anyone have an Ai and a Long body they could do a quick combo with?

Uh... may finally finally be building up towards a long-backburnered custom colour body order for a floating head that's been floating even longer than I've owned it... and realised, yeah I think I do want to reacquire my elf-mage, just on a taller body! (Trying to work out if Ai on Long's body would look okay, or if I should go for the slightly thinner nosed Rui)

 

@AlisonVonderland That's super helpful to know, thank you!! I have heard Su is super thin from various sources... good to know Pandora's body could be a good alternative in the future!

 

I don't know if the heads that come on the thin body are compatible with the 58cm Pandora body though, maybe someone else does. But I do love both bodies personally. Hopefully you will be able to get whatever you think works for what you have in mind. I can see myself owning the thin one again because it's got a very stylized look, like Ai Yazawa girls got example. (Manga like Nana for example)

 

I love Ai Yazawa!! At the very least the character I have planned for this doll is literally my thinnest OC, I would be outta luck if I had planned for one of my fuller figured characters haha.

 

Ah that seems like a really good choice for your character then! I really like the character art of Ai Yazawa too. Kinda thinking about that with some doll projects myself lately.

Haha thank you. I'm definitely a lover of colors and patterns... Never a dull visual moment I like the garish nails on her a lot. It's a fun mod to do. I thought her hands were a bit awkward, not like the beautiful hands that come on the tall slim body your girl has, so I figured I'd jazz them up

in general I don't like big dolls because they're too heavy for my tastes, but these two are lighter than the SD/SD+ dolls I've handled from other companies, so it's working for me

Made a wig and painted him also made his eyes

It poses pretty well, the problem is the resin is so smooth that the joints don't really have much grip so he pops and flops a bit without hot glue suede. He also can't really sit up straight without slouching the chest joint. I think the hip joint needs to be beveled out more where the legs connect to it.

Don't know if you still need them, but here's my Feng (who has the same body as Long) and my new Dan (on the Ai body).



The Long/Feng body has a 10 cm neck, the Ai body has an 8 cm neck. I'm not sure it's going to fit.

(I tried to swap the heads, but actually my new girl is so tightly strung that I couldn't get it off!)

 

Years ago when I was considering getting an Ai head on a bigger boy body, Sun advised me not to do it, because it looks weird. He suggested the 1/3 boy body and sent me these photos to show me.

That's very useful, yeah I had an Ai on Gang's body, but he was too short for the character, no longer own him, and have never had the taller boy body in hand, I was trying to work out if simply plonking him on the taller body would work, or if I need to give in and try to decide on a Rui or other sculpt instead. Long v Ai there seems to confirm my suspicion that the larger doll's intended heads are indeed just that little bit larger...

Thanks so much for that Ai on the bigger body photo, that answers most of my questions! Thank you! That is definite proof that proportionally, if I sorted out the giraffe neck situation I could see that working quite well. Shoulder width to head size seems really decent! Just a new frustration/question of can I sort out a 2cm difference rather than the complete ??? frozen indecision I was stuck with. With, additional complication of he'd be a dark tan boy which welp on the sanding needed.

(I have done fairly harsh neck adjustments in the past for awkward heads (cough Rainman's initial tiny neckholes on his newer girls cough) but I'm not sure a whole 2cm adjustment is viable, I need to try and dig up what the intended neck size difference vs actual neck sizes were now. I remember one of the adjustments took quite a bit more doing than the other)

Thanks again - that's incredibly helpful - I've gone from vascillating betwen options without a clue, to having a distinct way forward of how to make up my mind.

 

or. . . you could ask RS to mod the neck shorter for you? It's a relatively minor mod for them (as opposed to adding extra limbs and such) and it conveniently skirts around the issues with sanding dark resin for you

@ToriaCrux here's the album! They can hold light objects no problem, and small flat things well. The end joint of the fingers doesn't like to stay bent. I'm thinking about wiring them, then my boy might be able to hold his axes more naturally.

Wow there have been some gorgeous dolls here since I last checked. I wasn't sure if maybe you already got too much attention but @Nefla your blue Cen is a real dream ahhh I hope you will keep showing him I am in love.

Took my ornery Pandora to a city waterfront yesterday. It was a good shoot, but she decided after two years this was the day she was ready to remove her acrylic nails as I noticed one was missing the moment I took her out of the bag.

In spring 2021 I think it was, I gave her resin nail extensions with UV polish right on her hand, and they were very hardy. Some people seemed alarmed but in the end the UV lamp didn't cause her any discoloration and well, I guess the bond eventually weakened and they all popped right off easily after 2 years... Like they were never there. It was a fun era and I will miss it. Maybe I'll buy apoxie now and give a permanent version but maybe not.

I've been trying to rework her (every time I posted her this year she looks totally different, and I was combining a lot of things that didn't actually work on her resin color and just manipulating the hue with light) Anyway I am thinking I want to make her a modern vintage clothing fan (honestly I'm really inspired by sewrena_ on instagram -- she is just so beautiful and makes herself the best outfits) and I've been trying to take it seriously and did a color season analysis and everything on this doll so that I can have the little color palette to look at so I will stop making clothes I hate on her. normally it's not so hard but I'm tired of farting around on this doll. Which if you read via Google translate... I don't mean that literally.

But even with her nail malfunction I was so happy because her look was cute and I finally am figuring out how to get her looking more like she looks irl in a picture!

Ooh good point! Thanks heh I'll have to see if they'd be willing vs my paranoia about whether their idea of appropriate neck length would match mine... But given the order will already be an annoying, send a sample get a colour match job, a custom neck probably wouldn't be too much more on top of that. (gargh sorry did not get notified about the reply for some reason!)

@AlisonVonderland Argh your Pandora is lovely - oopf I always forget how very charming Bobobie's headsculpts are with the whole, twin companies, Resinsoul is the one to order from because Bobobie's customer service issues thing - but gods there's just something really lovely about the style and you've really brought it out with the way you've painted her.

 

Aw thank you @Vetinari ! I'm kind of in an era where I enjoy the doll-ness of a lot of my dolls over realism and she does the pretty and doe-eyed thing well I think

I'm going to have to look back on what hybrid you are planning I hope it works out for you though! I have some dolls here I could really use to do a neck shortening on and I haven't because I'm so very lazy and poor to invest in a good rotary... It seems very tempting to ask them to do it for you and have it taken care of.

 

Does anyone have Blue & SkyBlue RS dolls for color compassing? Thinking to order blue or SkyBlue elf
