Bobobie and Resinsoul Discussion - Part 11!!

I have an RS WS Bao (OT for this thread) bought directly from RS in 2011. When he arrived he was paper white. He's now mellowed into a warm, pale ivory shade. He's still WS but no longer the paper white he was when he arrived. It's also completely even. For context, all my guys live in their boxes due to lack of display space so he's seen very little light of any kind (sunlight, incandescent, fluorescent, etc.) over the 11 years I've owned him. His colour change is due 99.9% to simple age.

Interestingly, the other RS boys I have that are in dark grey (early 2011, bought at the same time as the WS Bao), dark tan (late 2011) and red (late 2011) don't seem to have colour changes to their resin. Or at least nothing that jumps out at me to say they've changed colour. They were all purchased directly from RS, too.

Jolen (Jun in old blue, late 2009) on the other other hand completely changed colour from old blue (which was almost like a dingy blue-tinted very pale grey back in the day) to a lovely turquoise by 2016. It's completely even with even the inside of his head cap (and other parts) the same shade. I think he was a wonky batch though as within the first 2 years he started to mellow into turquoise despite not getting any sun and minimal indoor light exposure.

 

They aren't pure white, so I guess they are NS. It's too bad, because they really are nice hands. I wouldn't have been surprised if the body was yellowed in comparison, it was just the paleness that threw me off.

Fantastic, I wish I could hand sew like that! It's always a production to sew for me, but my arthritis makes me zig zag when hand sewing, LOL Congratulations @sylvesther

I kept my Rui's faceup simple due to his funky fun resin, but I haven't been able to find OR make a wig I like on him! I finished his faceup yesterday, and the kitten made off with his other eye. I doubt he ate it, but he probably batted it somewhere weird. His custom eyes should be here soon anyway, but I really hope it turns up.

 

Your Rui guy looks great, @Thymeseer! He's so unique, his coloring is amazing and I like the face-up you give him.

And your guy is wonderful too, @sylvesther - like what you made him too!

@earth.spirits Thanks! He's my very fun guy; I decided my collection needed some more color. His character has been kicking around for a few years, so I felt more justified in making him a doll.

@IngieBee I actually ordered him like that! That black drips are in the resin itself. I asked for a marble effect and provided some pictures of other people's dolls with similar faceups, and he's what popped out. It's making him hard to dress since I want to show it off!

And the kitty is EXCEPTIONALLY naughty. He lucky he's cute. He's in the terrible teenage stage and has to touch everything and is a budding jewel thief since he likes necklaces and rings. And apparently eyes.

 

@Thymeseer That's part of the resin? Oh wow. I thought it was something you added. That is super cool.

It's even marble on his internal pieces!

 

@Thymeseer I'm a firm believer in asking as usually the worst that happens is the person/company says no they can't do Thing. RS is pretty awesome with the customer service.

I'm potentially looking at Rui myself, for a character I want to shell. Only issue for me is the height, I prefer smaller dolls in general and anything above 63cm/64cm is a hard no. I see that the RS/BBB 58cm girl body has the same size neck as the 68cm girl body- Would anyone know if the 68cm heads (Rui in particular) look proportional on the 58/60cm bodies? Or would they be super bobble-headed?

Her name is Bai, looks like she has a really pretty face! Her eye shape looks almost dreamy, though I'm somewhat faceblind and wish they still regularly did blank head pictures on their new releases

 

She's pretty but without seeing blank pics or different face-ups to see what could be done with her she wouldn't be a doll I'd seek out.

 

OMG I totally asked about this earlier in the year and they told me they couldn't do it...guess I'll try again..lol

 

Wow, she's super cute! Resinsoul are usually very nice when it comes to requests so it might be worth asking them for a blank head pic.

 

Popping back in to show the blank pictures of Bai they sent me in an email after I asked, she's cute! She's pretty androgynous (something I love about RS sculpts) so she'd be cute on the Cen body as a boy, too, imo!

The Cen body I've found has a pretty huge neck so putting that head on would probably require a mod. I don't doubt Resinsoul could do this for a fee though.

Also I'm like 99% certain that the Cen head actually doesn't properly fit the Cen body either. It kind of just rests atop the neck with slight gaping on the sides but not the front and back. This means it snaps to either side with the slightest movement. (My Cen has an elf ear mod.)


Another big indication is that I can actually see the stringing from the side. Debating on modding this. Took me a while to realize since a different head stole this body for a while and that head (Hoblods Jorhaal) fits on this body a lot better.

Oh, that's a shame! Hmmm...that's making me rethink if I want to get other heads on it, maybe. I wonder if they could put the neck of the Gang body on the Cen chest piece. They've done two necks on one chest piece before, so I guess it's not out of the question.

Also, wow, it sure is bigger, nearly a full centimeter bigger around! (that Gang neck is 9cm and Cen's is 9.7cm) Wonder why they made it so big if the head it's made for doesn't fit?

how good is the posing of the Cen body? I'm terribly tempted by that boy, but there are not a lot of owner pics out there so I'm wondering if that's because he's not great after all, or if it's just that not a lot of people got him

 

Aw the neck being large is such a huge bummer. I recently saw Cen and got really excited about the body for one of my dolls who really needs something eventually. Cen is really cute though. I can't believe he doesn't fit on his own body!

He poses mostly fine. I wired mine so he can stay posed since he bends well but doesn't have any sort or locking system to stay in a pose on his own. Other than the neck, I have a couple complaints but nothing that makes me dislike too much. My main complaints are the hands (or more specifically the wrists) and the arms. Cen's hands are just one piece with the wrist. There's not even a separate "wrist area", just hand to nub. So that limits how they can move. But I primarily keep the jointed hands on my Cen and those are so much better imo. I also hot glued his inner wrist for better posing. The arms are a bit more annoying. When Cen's arms are straight, they 'bow' inward into his body. You can actually see this in the company pic on the left side (right arm) and how it bows into the body. The arms look fine when bent, it's only straightened that they annoy me. You can also compare the hands in the company pic for a visual of the wrists.

 

^cough^ not to put too fine a face on it, but my right arm 'bows' in towards my body when my hands are positioned like that too. To be fair, I've had multiple elbow surgeries, and everyone is entitled to their opinions, and you are talking about a doll, but it hadn't occurred to me that there was anything 'wrong' with Cen's arms, or my own. Certainly something I'll be thinking about next time I might wear short or tight sleeves

 

oh, that's good to know! the elbow thing I don't mind so much, but the wrists I can see being frustrating. I'm not super fond of jointed hands, so I'll have to think about if that can be a dealbreaker for me or not

I didn't mean my complaint to be offending and I'm sorry if I did so. (My legs actually bow inwards from a birth defect so I do greatly understand your insight.) I should have explained why Cen's straightened arm position are an issue for me personally. I had planned for this doll to wear a certain outfit with very bulky knight-type armor with lace trim as that's how my OC I got Cen for dresses, but with how the arms rest it's thrown off my plans for that as his arms bowing inward make them rest close to his torso to the point that if he wears too bulky of clothes, it can make his straightened arms be awkwardly far away from his body. Thinner attire doesn't have this issue. That's a big reason another head stole my Cen body early on since that OC wears a lot of sleeveless stuff anyways. I'm honestly considering getting my Cen head the old 1/3 Resinsoul body so he would be able to have the bulky style I want for my OC and hopefully his head actually fits that neck. I'd still keep the Cen body tho for the other head I have that stole it prior.

 

I found the bowed arm at elbows mention a bit amusing because I specifically want only dolls who can pose that way, because I think it's the most aesthetically pleasing I get really grumpy if I can't move their arms that way. So hearing that was a big perk to me.

 

welp, I gave in and got Cen in light tan, because I do like his face so much, and his body is really pretty. At worse if the neck bothers me too much, I can mod it to fit better. I'm not sure yet what I'll do with him, but there's a good chance I'll try to customise him as a discount version of ringdoll's Ozhu

 

I've honestly grown to like the arm layout for the head that stole my Cen body. That character wasn't super planned out so it added a nice little quirk to my still developing character.

 

Ooh congrats on the incoming Cen @Tagath ! I'm sure he will be tons of fun.

Anyone else up to anything new? I sat down to sew for my Pandora today because I'm still trudging through getting her a well rounded and cohesive wardrobe together. I actually made a dress I really love from some awesome miniature scale vintage paisley fabric. So happy! I think I can try to make one more today... Just laying in bed for a bit as a break

 

I mean, I did buy my first RS doll!! She's a custom Lian with some extensive (I think) mods. So excited to post her when she gets here!!

Hey! Does anyone know if resinsoul light tan matches any other company's light tan? I did find out it is close to DFA tanned. Thank you!

 

Did DFA change their light tan? I know when I had it a couple years ago it didn't match well to any other tan really due to it being super light, even compared to Resinsoul light tan. Hoblods light tan is a good match. And Myou Coffee is close enough!

Thank you for the recs! I saw a comparison photo between resinsoul and DFA and it seemed close enough. Maybe it was mislabeled or I misread it?

 

I confirm myoudoll coffee is pretty close to resinsoul light tan. Myoudoll is just a little warmer in tone

 

How's everyone doing? Any weekend plans with your dolls? I've recently decided to cannibalize some forsaken doll fashion personalities and give them to my Pandora, and I'm finally feeling very happy with her varied styles. wanted to show her last dress:

It is maxi length and has a slit up front center to mini length which gives nice movement. I'm excited to take real pics of her in it maybe.

I've also been admiring Rensinsoul Bai lately. Her face is so beautiful. I love her nose lip region especially. And her gentle eyes... And I know the body she comes on is lovely too (in a very thin ethereal way). Maybe I start dreaming of her

Edit: also she gave away her last two dresses to other dolls. This is life lol

 

I might recommend starting with the Resinsoul admin email on the RS site! They are super responsive and helpful with custom orders and mix and matching parts/heads.

Ah thank you @knona_ona she has been a labor of love. I really struggled to figure out how I should paint her and she's gotten a new Faceup a year by now but also, earlier this week I got glue sueded all her joints and although she's not able to do everything she's perfect for me now because she is not so wobbly and holds her arms into some poses better. Very happy
Also we restrung her because the knot had fallen into her hip (she was a disaster apparently by now) and I got to have help with it. My S.O. commented that he thought she had a very nice body shape/ unique. I agree and it made me like her more again too. It was a good moment you know? He's been around the dolls a decade so he knows his stuff

 

Had cooperative weather for spraying today, I was able to finish my Mi, Marlene! She's a space princess taking extended sabbatical on earth, and it was fun and a little liberating to work with both fantasy colors and play around/not worry about mistakes. Had a pretty serious mishap when I put her head back on, but with her wig on you can't tell at all!

What size of elastic would be recommended for resinsoul's big dolls? I am waiting for a Cen (60cm)and a Yang(70cm) and I know RS dolls tend to arrive loosely stringed with too thin elastic, but I'm not sure what I need need for dolls that size since I'm more used to msd scale...

 

4.5 cm for the body and 3.5 cm for the arms, I restrung my Bobobie Apollo recently.

 

really?? That's the elastic sizes I use for MSD dolls! I use 5mm for legs/body and 4/4.5mm for the arms

 

He appears to be holding up well with it. Although he is the first doll I had to completely restring. It's what they also sell on Alice's collections for that size of doll. BJD Accessories, Dolls - Alice's Collections

 

I'm aware that's the size Alice's Collections sells for SD dolls, that's also the size they probably come strung with from the company, and it's also probably the main reason for people's complaints about the posability of their dolls.
When dolls are stung with the thickest possible elastic that'll fit through the channels they pose beautifully without having to do anything else like sueding or wiring.

 

Yeah, I think i've just used 4.5mm on some of my msd (or maybe 5mm? Thick elastic to be sure, but I'm bad at organising so I'm not sure the size) and I wasn't sure it'd be enough for bigger boys. I might try to get some 5 or6mm elastic then...
