BlueFairy (Tiny Fairy) discussion Part 12

Dec 16, 2018

    1. Omg I love the freckles and the small mouth! adorable!

    2. My Sarang had her birthday today! The weather was decent enough to take some photos in what remains of the cherry blossoms around here.

@zingor Your Somangs have always been so lovely and she is no exception <3 I love how softly you paint!

    3. You guys are so sweet :blush

@nyaaain she's so pretty. Such beautiful colors. :D

Btw... Does anyone know what their wait time is like on dolls these days? I might have ordered a Celine back in feb :kitty2

    4. Hello, all!

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to buy heads separately from Bluefairy? I'm interested in a Tinyfairy Olive head.

Looking at their website it appears that you can, for example, click on Tinyfairy May and choose a skin color, faceup option, etc. and put an "X" for the "Body" section. Does that mean ordering a head without a body? Are there any limitations that you know of? (heads-only can't be ordered in tan, etc.)?

      Thank you!

Edited to add - Also - any ideas of comparisons between Bluefairy resin and Fairyland resin?

    5. Hi @StellaMarigold ! Blue Fairy’s ordering process is no longer as straightforward as it used to be. Yes, you can order heads by themselves, but not every head is available during the monthly order periods.

The monthly order period opens up the first Monday of the month, and only specific heads are available at that time. As you can see, all sizes of their facemold “May” were available to preorder this month. If you look back through their announcements, you can see which faces were available in previous months. The last time all the Olive faces were available was October.

You might want to follow their Instagram account, since the only things they post there are order announcements. You might be in for a long wait, however. Sorry. I also can’t tell you anything about how the resin compares to Fairyland.

    6. @Peppermintsheep - Thank you very much! I just went back read through this entire thread but was basically just as confused as when I started, so I thought I would ask to see what the current score was.

I really like Instagram and check it often, so that will help - so following their Instagram account is a great idea.

I'm not in a particular hurry - I've been pondering sculpts for a particular character and have liked TF Olive for a while. So I'll just keep an eye out and see what happens.

      Thank you again!

    7. Sadly they never updated their homepage. They used to have a fixed schedule for what month which sculpts were available but they ditched it last year. Now it's kinda random.
They open two order periods per month. In the first full week of the month they accept orders for a handful of existing sculpts. But as I said it's random and does not follow the former release schedule at all. Then in the last full week of the month they offer a limited sculpt (often with a full set option).

    8. Interesting thing about this round of limited releases: even though it’s lThe Boys,” it looks like you can order whichever body you’d like, and also pick whether you want the girl or boy makeup styles!

    9. The new tiny fairy Kaylee is so pretty. They're also doing Tommy V this go around!

    10. I really like her mouth, she looks cute! Glad to see new releases that keep the same classic aesthetic :)

    11. Hi everyone!! I just ordered an ollllld version of May on Mandarake. I have always wanted a Bluefairy 1/4 size with the company faceup so I am SUPER excited! The only bad thing is, I have no MSD sized stuff anymore :shudder soooo she’s gonna be naked and bald for quite a while *_* by the way, does anyone know what size eyes she uses? It’s not on the BF site, and also I heard they tweaked her sculpt a bit since way back when.

      • x 2
    12. Congrats on getting May :).

I take it she's on the old TF body. So standard 1/4 or Volks MSD clothing should fit her.

    13. Congratulations :)
16 mm eyes should fit her

    14. thank you all so much!! I can’t wait for her to arrive. Still not sure about the overall character or look though but I’m sure I will figure something out once I see her skin tone in person. :celebrate

    15. The Blue Fairy website has been unreachable for a few days. i keep getting the message “Your connection is not private” is this me, or is it their security certificate or smthg?

    16. I'm getting the same message

    17. you can accept the risk and continue to the website if need be, maybe someone should tell them so they know? i passed clicked through so now i can't get the warning to load again so i wouldn't be able to let them know what exactly the issue is T_T

    18. I sent them a message on instagram today about it. Hopefully they'll see it.

I'm glad to hear it's not just me, haha! For some reason i thought I just had a bad connection until I checked this thread. It looks like their security certificate is expired.

    21. Bluefairy is coming for my wallet once again. TF Emilie will be up for preorder next week and aaaaaahhh it's so tempting. I'm even considering to have Emilie be my first 1/4 boy.

So I guess I got a week to convince myself to be reasonable *_*. But Emilie :D.

    22. Hello everyone, I haven't posted in a very long time.
I wanted to ask some history questions to anyone that remembers about the beginning of Blue fairy as a company.
What prompted this was I recently acquired a Tinyfairy Jerome and Tinyfairy May
both have been signed by Xiao and dated 2005 and Jerome is no.160 as well.

Can anyone tell me what year BF started?
What is known about the numbered dolls,
how many were there and which sculpts?
any other interesting facts newer owners may not know?

Here are my new to me Tinyfairy Jerome and May boys

[IMG]Tinyfairy Jerome and May boys signed by Xiao 2005 Jerome is also numbered 160 by Melissa, on Flickr

Mari looks sooo adorable :love. I love her.

    24. Yes, she looks gorgeous. I'm in love with the dress, been looking for something like that for ages.
I'm new to Blue Fairy, is there a way to get the outfit seperately? Or can you only get it with the full set?

      • x 1
    25. At the moment they are only offering the dress as part of the fullset. But honestly I'd just ask them on their Q&A board if they'd sell you the dress on its own. They just might :).

      • x 1
    26. She's so beautiful. I had the same thought about asking for just the dress. It's amazing :love

    27. Well, BlueFairy is celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2023, so about 2003? Minoruworld said in their goodbye letter when they closed in 2012, merging with BlueFairy, they had enjoyed the past 10 years in the business,so I'd guess 2002 for them. The original Angel Region was also started in 2002 and used the same sculptor, so the old Angel Region Little Fair bodies are identical to the old BlueFairy Tiny Fairy bodies. (The larger Blue Fairy line did not start until after Angel Region was bought out by Soom and renamed Neo Angel Region.)

BlueFairy is usually good about answering questions on their website, so you might check with them.

      • x 6
    28. Thank you for your response. I love to have all the information and am trying to collect early Little Fairs with the bf body as well.
If Minoru World began before Bluefairy did they sell Bluefairy dolls before BF opened?
I think I have one of the earliest Emilie versions with her name written inside the headcap and I now have 3 boys all singed by Xiao dated 2005 on the back of their head with my Jerome being number 160 as well. Do you know anything about this numbering system?

I did ask @bluefairyint.com here is my question and their response to me:

      Hello Blue Fairy,
I am curious of the history of Blue Fairy. Can you tell me what year did Blue fairy begin?
I have acquired a Jerome with Xiao 2005 no.160 on the back of the head.
How many numbered Jerome's were made?
Were the other head sculpts signed and numbered in the beginning?
      I love Blue fairy,
      Thank you,
      Melissa

      Hello, this is Blue Fairy
Thank you for loving Blue Fairy
      Blue Fairy's birthday is January 25th, 2003
The numbering was only done at the beginning of the release, so I don't know the sales after that
I'm sorry I didn't give you an accurate answer
Please continue to watch Blue Fairy
      Always be happy :)
      Blue Fairy

Here are some of some of my Bluefairy dolls in my year end wrap up picture
Jerome, Denis and May boys are all signed by Xiao and dated 2005 with Jerome numbered 160
and the Emilie with her name engraved in the headcap:

    31. Took Neysha (TF May) out for a few pictures today and I am absolutely blown away by her body's posing capabilities. She's my only doll capable of holding a crouching pose on her own (without a stand) and to actually hold it.

    32. Thank you for sharing your confussion over this because I too am baffled by what they're trying to say? It's almost as if they're implying that their doll sculpts will be discontinued after the monthly special. I doubt that's what actually is going on though.

    33. I am baffled by the post as well :3nodding:

    34. I read it so many times and I still have no idea.

I THINK maybe it means that if they say "final sale" that's discontinuing? Meaning Arthur from this month being listed as "final sale" may be being discontinued?

But goodness it's a confusing statement.

    35. The announcement is... not clear.

      I think they're saying:
-The next time existing sculpts are released will be the last order for those sculpts
-All upcoming new sculpts will be sold only one time

But I really can't say for sure based on the phrasing. It's a bit baffling to think that BF might be clearing out their lineup entirely over time? So maybe I'm just not understanding it. I hope they clarify before the next order period.

    36. this is weird, they've already been running the monthly specials basically like this in the first place, but it's weird to pour that many resources into new sculpts basically every month at this point and then just discontinue them. no one has the money to keep up with that :X

      • x 2
    37. Well I'm glad it wasn't just me! I probably read that notice 8 times trying to figure it out.

I wonder how popular some of the newer sculpts have been and maybe if they aren't, they are trying to focus on what sells?

Speaking of newer sculpts, I finished putting together my TF Celine. I swear I'll post a pic of her once I remember to take one :sigh

    38. I don’t understand that message either.... but with the way the prices keep climbing, it won’t matter what the order system is like because it will be unaffordable even for savers like me.

    39. From talking to artist doll makers- by which I mean individuals who make dolls themselves, with maybe one or two people to help with the business side, as opposed to larger companies like Luts- it seems that producing dolls in extremely limited batches at a high price point is financially the best move. It has something to do with recasting- the only way to fight against knowing that your doll will end up recasted and sold far cheaper is to produce the doll once at a high price. You're basically counting on the hype of that limited sale, then from there, you at least don't have to worry about maintaining the sculpts by yourself (a sculpt can only be cast so many times before you need a new mold) while people simply purchase from recasters instead.

Basically, there's no way to stop recasting, so the sales methods have to shift to whatever makes the most money with the least time and resource cost for the sculptor, which means releasing a few dolls at a high price and cutting maintenance costs. Larger companies can absorb this cost to a point, but smaller ones don't have the man power. Which really sucks for doll fans, as the sales methods favor people who have the money to keep up.

I'm also wondering if, with BF specifically, there are simply so many TF Mays/Olives/Louis existing that new sales for them are not worth maintaining the molds???? They've been making some of these sculpts since... What was it, 2003? Second hand online doll stores tend to have at least one TF at any time that costs 200USD or less.

It's frustrating for everyone, all around, but it's also, like... Reality for artists who want to stay in business :(

      • x 5
    40. That makes a lot of sense. I guess I was in denial to think they wouldn't actually discontinue their sculpts, but some of these sculpts have been in syndication for over ten years in the second hand market. They're practically competing not only with counterfiters and other doll makers, but also with themselves. It'll be sad to see these classic sculpts slowly phased out, but if it means Bluefairy is sticking around for many more years then that's good. I'm not happy prices are going up, but I am glad they're making more bodies. Hopefully that's a good sign. I wouldn't want them to go the way of Little Monica.

Unrelated -- I took my Rachel to a tea party today and felt like sharing a pic:

    41. Has anyone seen the news on Bluefairy discontinuing regular sales of baked and basic skin? They just posted this today on their instagram

      ***

"General sales of 'Basic' skin and 'Baked' will end in August 2023. The last order for head & body will be made during the monthly period in July and the paid exchange will be carried out until the end of July. For those who have considered a paid exchange, we would appreciate it if you could apply within July.

Also, the cost of makeup will increase slightly from August due to the increase in labor costs. Blue Fairy's makeup is done by ‘Atelier Oz’. Sometimes, we show different styles of makeup during limited or collaboration but the makeup artist hasn't changed, so please don't misunderstand."

      ***

I hope they'll still have special events in the future for these resin colors in the future.

    42. i saw on twitter. i don't understand why they're discontinuing the basic skin (or why there was an upcharge on something literally called basic?), and i still don't know what basic and light basic were in comparison to their old normal skin. it's exhausting trying to keep up with all the weird changes they make these days :(
hopefully they'll bring them back in the future though, yeah

      • x 3
    43. Does anyone have pictures of the basic resin in comparison to any of the other colors?

    44. I find it very confusing as well! And I wish that they would settle on a schedule for the preorders and stick to it. Why does it have to be a mystery every month? Wouldn't business be better if customers could count on a particular sculpt being available in the next, say, 2-3 months? Purchases could then be planned for and looked forward to. As it is currently, you don't know what sculpts are available until like hours before the preorder opens, and it only stays open for a few days at a time.

I don't really understand this business model

Edited to add: I don't have a problem at all with a limited order window (small company not wanting to be overwhelmed and all that). I would just appreciate knowing what sculpts will be available over the next few months instead of learning about them days or hours before the preorders open.

      • x 3
    45. I saw it as well, I left them the question if they're going to offer them as limited editions in the future. Let's see if they answer.

I have a few BlueFairy dolls, including basic, light basic, baked, old "normal", old beauty white... but I don't think I have pictures comparing them... that would be fun to do...

    46. Bluefairy's resin coloring is inconsistent from batch to batch, unless they've addressed that in the more recent years (does anyone know if they have?).

These two are both WS; the May V is pinker. These three are all NS, the Louis is more brown. If you can believe this, both the Jasmine and Tommy girl in the middle are WS, and the boy Tommy is NS. Here is a large group pic! The baked tone varies a lot! You can see my baked May V is far cooler in tone than baked Robin.

So a lot of my TFs are second hand, so they might have yellowed before I bought them (anything I purchased new has been stored in a closet, but even then, the color should slowly change over time). Also, I believe BF has recently added skin tones and changed names? If I recall, it used to be WS, NS, baked, and misty rose. Now we seem to have snow white, beauty white, light basic, basic, and baked (click here, scroll down). Most comparisons I guess aren't currently accurate? Still fun, though!

    47. baked definitely varies from batch to batch. I don't think they ever had an exact mix for it.

I have a real soft spot for their older sculpts though. They're the first dolls that ever got me into bjds back when I was a broke student and so there's a certain nostalgia there.
      Olive and Louis particularly.

    48. as an aside, is anyone else really confused by their baked and basic event?
it claims you can order any head, then lists ALL their limited heads as well.
So... does that mean we could get those?

      It's pretty vague.

Also, anyone else noticing this "free pass" thing on their monthly releases? Looks like some sort of lottery? Was that something from a while back or is that new?

    49. someone explained it a few pages back in the thread but small batch limited releases are the best way to make money in this post-recast doll economy i guess. similar to the concept of whaling in gacha/gambling, if you've got a few guaranteed big spenders then that's more stable than a larger but less spendy fanbase.

but i agree, i really don't like not knowing a few months in advance if the preorder periods are going to be so limited. i like planning my purchases, not making surprise holes in my wallet, and when it's that expensive and that unpredictable, well, if there's a sculpt you're waiting for, sitting on that $500 becomes a problem when other companies are doing more predictable sales or a surprise discontinuation. there are plenty of other holes for that money to fill if you're not the type with $1k to drop on dolls every month. especially when waits for rereleases can take years, i think i waited like 3? years? between when they released allan and when he was available in tan and i was super lucky to be able to snatch him up then. like i know this is a waiting hobby, but it's also an expensive waiting hobby, moreso than most others.

i believe they've become much more consistent since they made baked a regularly available option, at least. i only have one blue fairy on me at the moment so i can't make any comparisons this very second but i remember my baked 2021 diana and allan matching my baked 2019 sarang perfectly. idk if that's coincidence though, my bluefairy ordering has been inconsistent in recent years, mostly due to their annoying ordering system. usually i try to get at least one a year but if there's nothing i like around my birthday or christmas well.... :\

      • x 1
    50. They've confirmed that baked skin will continue for limited releases in the future, but basic skin is out completely.

It was for their anniversary, it was a lottery to buy any doll that you wanted in any body and skin tone; you didn't have to wait for the monthly or limited sale. I was able to participate and I'm currently waiting for my doll to arrive home.

    51. The baked event is up, it is looking like you can order... Pretty much anything? Wild!

      • x 1
    52. bluefairy always has the worst timing haha, i'd love to grab something from this event but i'm in the hole for a doll and two faceups right now so i can't swing it. :( anyone getting anything interesting? i'd love to see someone get the fairy may in tan, i don't think there'll be another chance for that outside of freechoice lotteries u_u i would grab a lisa in basic if i could but alas :...(

tangentially related: i'm working on the tiny fairy page on the (other) bjd wiki, there's so many weird little sculpts they've only released once basically! is there anyone who feels like sharing info on some sculpts? i know may has gone through a few revisions, and each sculpt has a unique headstamp, i'd love to get confirmation (and even photos if possible?) on those if anyone feels like popping their doll's head open LOL

an up to date and well maintained list of all their sculpts would be great! even their creatorlink page is missing a bunch they have on their site. would make it easier to pick what you want when there's a choice event!

i would also love to know which sculpts belonged to minoru world (or other companies?) previously if anyone has any information, also RELEASE DATES!!!! :eusa_pray

    53. their last "free choice" event they had a big ol' list/page of their head sculpts.

I actually only own 2 bfs at the moment. Louis and Rudy. Rudy was only available briefly as far as I can tell though. Kinda odd.

      oh now this is interesting

i just put a basic lisa on layaway with the help of my dad hehe everyone say thank you to my dad LOL
sidenote, shipping for a single tiny fairy was almost NINETY DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!! HUH??!?? :aeyepop:

    55. Has anybody recently noticed differences in faceup from the company photos compared to what you actually received? I ordered a tiny fairy last year. WS with a boy body and boy face selected. The photos of the boy had the typical company
bf faceup, no blushing, paler lips. What I received was so heavily blushed on cheeks and chin, and brighter lips, it's essentially a girl faceup (done more like a Chinese style as well). Makes me leery of ordering directly now, especially since they had mentioned in one event promo that the artists were going to do - I don't remember the exact wording, something like "free style", "own style". Guess I'll have to pore over secondhands to get the classic, understated faceups I've always preferred.

And even though I have a spare white girl body that would match the "boy" head, it's still going to involve doing removal of most of the blushing. Particularly the chin. I hate the look on a white doll where it looks like they have a fever and head cold....

    56. I got a Robin last year and Arthur this year and both came with typical Bluefairy-style faceups.

    57. Hi gang, Blue Fairy posted this today December 4 2023:

      “Hello, this is Blue Fairy.
I'm so sorry for the delay in delivery.
The list of products currently delayed is as follows.
      * * TF May Premium Collaboration 2023
      * * All size Basic & Baked skin choice
      * * Pocket fairy - All type choice
      * * Parts & After service
We deliver the product to customers who ordered the above product as soon as it is ready.
Also, if you haven't sent it yet, we'll do our best to send it all within December.
      Thank you always.
      Blue Fairy.”

I hope they’re doing okay. They didn’t have any special going on in November (my bank account is glad), and I don’t know if they’ll have an ordering period in December, either.

      • x 3
    58. I wondered what was going on. I ordered a Chelsy back in March and it hasn't arrived yet. This is the longest I've ever had to wait for Bluefairy.

    59. I ordered a doll last February (sd Olive) and got her in May, but she was blank. Maybe the hold up is in finishing.
Then again, that was before the choice event huh.
If so many people ordered them they can't keep up, then, I hope to see everyone's dolls here soon!
