Ahh new thread!! Let’s have some doll spam to celebrate ?

 

Haha..oh man sorry for the double post but my secret box arrived! I also made a new instagram for doll stuff- the photos are here

I paid for the 70$ TF Girl box and 30$ TF boy box. Everything came together wrapped in bubble wrap, so it looks like Bluefairy are packing things together on an order by order basis.


My package included:

1~full set dress/outfit

2~ small polo neck pink dress

3~ long wavy grey wig

4~ short brown wig- looks like medium wolf cut style

5~ 2 pairs of shoes and 1 eye


Initially I thought I’d identified the outfits as the Cherry blossom and sixties girl outfits- but looking at photos on the archived bluefairy site(via waybavk machine), I can’t seem to match these up to any outfits they’ve ever listed! I’m looking to keep both of the dresses, but do any of you have a clue what they are?

The wigs and shoes are a little more easy to match, being long and curly/wavy and middle wolf cut I think, and the shoes are wing tip and cowboy boots???

Also I was really lucky with the eyes! I was hoping for a bright blue for my new Niky girl (who still needs a name..honestly all my dolls need new names ahah..)

I’m not entirely sure what bluefairy packed as going in the male/female boxes respectively. I’m guessinh based off price, maybe one of the shoes, wolf cut wig and perhaps eyes came as the male box and all the rest as female? Sorta..regretting not getting the slightly larger male box if that meany I had a better chance for an outfit XD

Overall though, I’m pretty happy with what I got! The outfits are both pretty out of left field, but both very nice and go well with what I’d like to do with my dolls ^^ though also, I got neither the outfit I was pining for (sweet winter girl) or the one I reALLY DIDN’t WANT (May’s Blue).

If sweet winter girl is still available after this, I might just bite the bullet and get it ;3;

I’d be up for swapping the wolf cut wig and maybe cowboy boots if anyone was interested? I want to test them out on my dolls first tho uwu

Also unrelated; I asked around the same time as I ordered the box whether or not we’d be seeing Tommy again, to which Bluefairy mysteriously replied:

So it looks like Bluefairy may be planning some kind of event with Tommy’s sculpt oAo?? As they've previously said there’d be no choice event, perhaps it’ll be a limited doll or full set? I’d be super interested to see whatever they have waiting for us!!

I did order some secret boxes and was asking about payment (it went through but hasn't cleared their system). In their reply, Bluefairy apologized for the delay (looks like their English-speaking manager quit?) and that the secret box sale will be over soon, so if you want some, order fast!

ThATS SO BIZZARRE WHAT’S GOING ON??
That’s the exact outfit- I knew it looked familliar! But what does it mean?

 

My secret box came in today! I bought the $30 one just to try it out, and it came with the following:

1 pair of glass eyes
1 long, curly wig
1 pair of shoes

I actually ordered the Shiny Fairy box, but my wig ended up being a 7-8". Not an issue for me, since I have 1/4 dolls, too. Just thought I'd mention it.

I got my Secret boxes yesterday. Not impressed with the outfit choices (Daydream doll outfit and a grey uniform, which I think used to be the boy's default several years ago?), but dang, did I get a lot of shoes! A few wigs, including one that I know is Luts (because I have the same one in a different color), but it's all good. One pair of eyes, Bluefairy box but they look like Kanis Augen make?

It looks to me like they're cleaning out. Are the new bodies that different in measurement from the old? (I only have the old single-joint bodies in my collection--don't care for the peanut joints).

@Reynardine They probably are just clearing their old stock that hasn't sold. I hope they're making room for new things, rather than just cleaning it out to get it out. ^^;;

 

Ahhh they’re all so cute! I love the variety of characters in your collection- they all look so unique but I like that the general colour pallet and style of the clothing ties them all together oAo!

@Reynardine and @NekoNyanMew do either of you fancy swapping anything? I can make a thread over at the marketplace maybe, tho idk what format swap threads should be in ?

 

@Reynardine Thank you! Wait, are they making new TF bodies? Or do you mean the newer peanut joint bodies? My Patricia, Denis, and Robin have that body, and it isn't different in size from the old ones, not enough to require any changes in the clothing. I definitely agree that the classic body looks better! It is nice to be able to do some hand and sitting poses, but ultimately, I think the look is more important.

@Peppermintsheep Hahaha! I didn't start collecting on purpose, not really. I just had Sarang, Jasmine, and May at first... But then I started finding TFs under $150 and things... happened. I'm really weak to TFs, and when I see one that's run down but salvageable... They end up home somehow XD I don't have any real plans for more, but then... I only intended to buy Denis, Patricia, and Robin! But it's been a lot of fun to learn how to restore dolls, and to customize them as a group. The cohesive feel is so satisfying to me.

@NeonLanterns Thank you so much! They mostly dress in Bluefairy/The Paiges outfits, but Wimukt also supplies a lot of their clothes. I really miss the less frilly older TF outfits, the new ones tend to be too frilly for my tastes. But I'm really glad to see new fullsets, of course!

If anyone is interested, my dolls (including my TFs) all have personalities and a story that you can read about on my blog.

Edit: If anyone has pics to share of their blind boxes, I would love to see them! I'm considering picking one up, but I'm a little wary of receiving duplicates of shoes.

 

@NeonLanterns I have a pair of shoes that I wouldn't mind swapping for something else! It might be a good idea to make a MP thread in case there are other folks who may be interested but haven't seen your post.

 

I was really hoping for an outfit in my secret box, but got two pair of boots, two wigs and a pair of eyes . The boots are really nice though so I can’t complain too much. If someone makes a swap thread I’d be into that.

 

WHOA!!! Did you see?? Looks like Blue Fairy is introducing a Monthly Special, and in addition to the regular offering for January, they've brought back Gus!!!

Also, the Shiny/Junior fairy default school outfit is back in the outfit category, and SF penny loafers are available soon in the shoe category. Nothing yet in the wigs or eyes,

 

Awesome! I think Gus is the monthly special... My best guess is that Bluefairy is going to offer one discontinued sculpt per month in addition to their usual monthly pre-orders, which would be great news for people who missed out on a discontinued sculpt.

 

The thing is though... Gus isn't discounted at all. A basic skin Gus on a Dandy body with boy makeup is $374... and a May on a Dandy body with boy makeup is $364. I wonder why there's a discrepancy in price? And we were also wondering earlier why the Girl and Boy bodies are extra, and also not available anymore in the monthly choices.

 

I’m so excited that Bluefairy is doing this!!! I wanted a Gus way back when but just missed out as they discontinued him close to when I started the hobby!!

I think I might go for a baked gentle Gus? I want to see the new gentle body and I’ve not seen a baked gus before !

 

I can only guess, but I don't think "special" means "cheaper." I assume it means "available for a limited time." BF might be charging an extra $10 for the discontinued sculpts to help offset the cost of maintaining a discontinued sculpt (sculpts have to be cared for so they don't degrade with use). This is all conjecture, but I don't find it surprising that BF is asking a little more for their discontinued dolls.

I have no idea why girl and boy bodies wouldn't be available in the monthly choice, though. Has anyone asked BF? Maybe they are working on these body sculpts???

 

Agreeing with @bronzephoenix , I think they're treating these specials like other limited dolls and adding a bit more to the price because of that! I really don't mind it honestly

Everyone's dolls look great! I'm kinda sad I missed out on the secret box event, but I had no money for it. Oh well...

Olive Valentine is really pretty. It's been long time since I played with my Tinyfairies, even if they do give me lots of joy being in show case in craft room among my other bjd's. I'm trying to figure out their styles these days and not doing very good job with it either.

Just thougth about the Bluefairy anniversary May with the elf ears, did anyone order her?

 

oh my god i can't believe i missed out on gus ;___; i should've been checking more, not that i can afford another bluefairy right now orz but they finally brought him back! i'm so happy to see he hasn't been completely taken off the table. ;o;
i love the idea of a monthly special too, it's a great idea, i wish more companies would pick it up..! *w*

As for Gus, hopefully they’ll bring him back again? Though didn’t you (or maybe someone else on the forum- this was yeaars ago!) get him when they did that clear out on their facebook page?

Though also, I did see a Gus go on sale on the marketplace here! So you might still have a good shot getting one!

I ended up ordering a Gus from this order period though >w< I went for a baked skin gentle Gus, which like..again is more for my own curiosity! I’ve not yet seen the neo gentle body around, and I never had the opportunity to order a bs doll as budget/events never aligned ! (i think I wanted a baked Niky but that just didn’t happen? I forget now XD) But I’m pretty excited! I hope they reopen the additional items though soon, as I wanted to order some extra eyes ect but to no avail ;-;!

i actually have the neo gentle body for my tommy! i think it's actually a little taller than the original gentle..! it's very charming but like, No Pants Are Long Enough!!!!!! O__O so i'm gonna have to get him some special longer pants probably. altho i may have been trying to squeeze him into minifee leggings, i don't remember what size they were supposed to be for lol

When people are good at tagging their photos, you can find what you're looking for! These came from searches in hashtags of "tinyfairysarang" and "bluefairysarang". The #Bluefairysarang tag has a lot more pics than the #TinyFairySarang tag.

elliot is pretty cute, but i'd like to see her blank or with a male faceup, i think her lip painting looks a little "overdrawn" (is that what it's called i don't know much about makeup omg....).... she's got moody look to her that i love...... darn u bluefairy.... TToTT

 

Maybe Elliot will be re-released sometime :< Can't justify her price for me, personally, though. The clothes, while very pretty, aren't my usual preferred aesthetic, so Id probably never use them :<

??? You don't pay extra for the outfit. You can purchase an additional outfit of either color for an extra $150 (if you only want one outfit, select X). What is curious is that the listing specifies that they both come with a navy cloak? If I were interested in Elliot, I would probably ask if she comes with the red cloak, as pictured, since both Olive and Elliot's descriptions specify navy in writing.

As for the price, well... Bluefairy stated they were increasing their prices. I imagine it's the best way to stay afloat, given how small the profit margins tend to be for BJDs... I know it's hard to pay more, but I'm happy that Bluefairy is taking steps to promote their longevity in a market that is changing a lot right now.

EDIT: Actually, the more I read this listing, the more unclear it is! I'm pretty sure they both include the outfit, but better safe than sorry, and the color of the manteau is unclear. Is the default navy for both, or red for Elliot and navy for Olive? I went ahead and asked on the Q&A board, hopefully they respond before the preorder period begins.

I'm kinda glad I ordered my Louis when I did. I just had this feeling I SHOULD or i'd regret it and knowing they're likely to put prices up and potentially discontinue more sculpts at the drop of a hat... yeah... relieved I did so.



Way back when I had always planned to get him a companion but I might go for a Luts instead heh, their faces are fairly similar to my eye. BF's ordering period thing is really awkward.

Ah, Toys R Us only closed their US and UK stores though. Even Canada still has them as if nothing ever happened.
Asia seems to get a lot of cross-company promos, like collectibles from convenience stores even, so why not at a toy store? It seems rare to see a BJD brand doing such a collaboration. I hope they sell well!

Seems to be their new release procedure, that all new sculpts come out as full-set limiteds. Wow. Gonna be a long time then before I get one of the new ones. Double the price of a bare doll, even with faceup, just for an outfit I probably won't use (and won't be able to sell or get a split with someone willing to pay about $300 for the outfit --).

And this business model of announcing sales only 1-2 days before they go live and are only live for a couple of days ---

 

Oh no, I just realized I hadn't seen this thread in a while and it was because the last part ran out and didn't follow this new one! WHOOPS!

Quick question, are the secret boxes still available? I went one day and couldn't get to the purchase page and then a couple days later I could?? Idk, seemed weird so I wanted to ask before I tried to dive in again.

 

The Secret Boxes were available earlier in the week, but Blue Fairy is in the middle of their Lunar New Year celebration, so they're probably limiting the things people can buy while they're away. They'll probably be back on Monday with their regular February open order period.

 

That's the worst thing!!! How can I even save up in time to get any limiteds?? And I'm not aware of any BF proxies that will help with layaway or anything. It's very frustrating and tbh have put me off a bit. I still love these dolls and want to support the company but buying them first hand has been kinda difficult...

Okay, good to know. I would really like some TF stuff for my girls. Does anyone know if SF will fill other YoSDs? (Like *cough*dollzone*cough* perhaps?

And unless Dollzone Yosds are a weird size, Shiny Fairy stuff will fit them. Blue Fairy's dolls are standard sizes to compete with Volks, from what I've read.

And THANK YOU, also good to know. I will check company measurements and make sure nothing is too far off. DZ seems to be a bit more... shapely than BF or Volks. So may only be an issue with pants being small and shirts being big? Uhh... we'll see.

 

Whoa!!! The February dolls are up on the website, and the Monthly Special doll is Kevin! Actually, there's two Monthly Specials, but the second is Pocket Fairy Kitty (who was discontinued last year iirc). Weirdly, there's Gus pics beneath the Kevin pics, but they do have an unpainted Kevin head to see!

 

Oh wow, I love Kevin! I'll have to pass right now, but I hope to see more Kevins around!

 

I wish they'd let me buy just the head.... their new Special Limited Every Month strategy is really exciting, but ouch the price!
