BlueBlood Doll Discussion

Apr 4, 2009

    1. Way back on page... well, four, or three, or maybe five (I just read the entire thread and I don't know where I saw it) someone mentioned sanding down the... thing in the torso joint that stops them from bending forwards and backwards. Has anyone else attempted to do this? I'm thinking I might try in the summer when it's warmer, just because his lack of mobility bothers me way too much.

    2. I like his wig! Is it really orange, or is that just your light?

    3. Fidelis, I love Hyacinth! So cute! Those cheekbones.... :D

Now I have a question for you all. Waltz is pretty much perfect for a character of mine I want to shell, but he needs to be white skinned. I remember a while back, sometime last year, seeing that these boys were being offered in peach and white resin. Now, they're only available in peach. Am I crazy with my memory making things up, or are they just not available in WS right now?

    4. fidelis - SD13 size clothes from Dollheart fit great. I have one of their sets and it fits Waltz like a glove. So perfect. The pants are even long enough.

Helter Skelter - I can't say I remember seeing any of these dolls in white skin, but you could always write and ask the company. She is really nice and doesn't mind answering questions.

    5. aernath, it's really orange! It's the gold color wig on the BlueBlood Doll website.

      Helter Skelter, thanks :aheartbea
I'm pretty sure Draven was released in white skin a while back, and there are pictures of all the skins... somewhere. The LE Vampire Draven was white skinned, I know that much.

remus.grrl, oh, good! I love Dollheart clothes, I was hoping I could get him a set of something. Thanks!

    6. For a long time there was no Terry =)))

    7. Ok our fav list needs a bump and we need some BB dolly photos to admire. Come on folks; share the photos!

And after wandering over here yesterday I wandered over to the BB website and discovered that Waltz was almost sold out and nearly had a spaz attack when I discovered that there were only 2 left. Me haz Waltz! That was close. If anyone else was planning on getting a Waltz better get over there and grab him because she isn't getting any more ever. I can't wait for Kelly to get home!!!!

    8. Waltz is my first ever boy, and I absolutely adore him. In my household he's known as Tanoshii... delightful one.

I need to go look at BB's site, haven't been there in awhile. Kind of fell off the doll purchasing wagon.

    9. I absolutely adore my Waltz :aheartbea
      So glad I got him!

Speaking of him, I took him outside for the first time today. Which is odd, since I've had him for nine months and ever since the first day I got him I had wanted to take him outside...

(thought this thread needed a little bump~)

    10. It's been a while since I've posted here. >v<;; It's nice to see all of the BBD boys. :D L-lol Fidelis, and not to be creepy ormaybeitiscreepy -dies- But I know you from tumblr~ =v= Heeey. -shot-

      Helter Skelter: You were not dreaming. xD Medusa did once offer white skinned dolls. I have a Draven in white skin. He's the limited vampire edition. >v<;

He looks kinda herp derp here, but yeah.. -shot-

    11. It's funny thinking about this, but I went to the website yesterday and guess what? All 100 Waltz's have been sold. And I have one of them. I don't know, but that makes me happy. I mean, they're nowhere near as in demand as a Soom monthly, but still. I feel special! ^_^

Anywho, am I the only one that finds BBD's heads wider than other companies'? I mean, I've also got a Dika Molin, and his head is WAYYY thinner (from temple to temple) than Rumi's. Like, I don't get it. They're meant to be a couple, so it looks a bit weird, too. All I can do is hide a bit of the width with his hair... DX

    12. I haven't been to this thread in forever! And I don't think I've spammed you yet... shame on me! So, here's Spencer, my BB Waltz... I've had him for about a year and a half now.

    13. @Ivory Stardust: That's a great pic! *sigh* one day, I think I'll get a waltz. . .

    14. He's officially sold out from BB now, but they'll probably turn up in the Marketplace. I love mine!

    15. Thanks! He's my Golden Boy... I love him to pieces! Though my bff loves him even more. lol There are some who show up in the MP, I think he's been d/c, but I could be wrong about that.

    16. poochiness, yep, you do know me from tumblr~
      It's not creepy at all.

I love your Draven's eye position, it looks less derp and more... I don't know, cool, I guess?

      angelynx-prime, I love your Waltz's eyes!

    17. Has anybody had any luck finding resin matches for BBD resin? I've got a Jiedoll 1/4 girl on layaway and I know they use the same resin. I need to find her some high heel feet, since there's plenty 5cm-6cm high heel shoes but next to NONE *weeps* for small flat feet. Any leads would be very much appreciated!

    18. I don't know about color matching, but I know Angell-Studio uses the same type of resin (at least, it's transparent?) and so does Ringdoll. I think Angell-Studio's butter skin would probably match, but I don't know.

    19. Hi! :)

    20. This is a super late reply, but thanks, fidelis!

What do you guys think of the tan Waltz? ;v; I like the look of the tan resin.

    21. I let out the most mature and highly attractive squeal when I saw that update. Argh. That tan is awesome!

    23. And when Nick got sick, Little Nick posted to him.

    24. LondonAfterMidnight: I have a JeiDoll Ashford and a BBD Valentine. The resins do not match. Ryzel (BBD) is the peach skin and Quin (JD) is what I assume is their normal. They both have that lovely translucent quality, but it is different enough that you couldn't swap the parts without it showing. I don't have any good shots of them for resin comparison but I could try. Be advised that my camera hates me on the best of days *sigh*.

But here's a shot of them anyway.

    25. *peeks into thread, then waves*

Made the final (2nd and 3rd in one) layaway payment on the tan Waltz fullset last night, and Medusa said she'd ship him next week. Can't wait~! ^_^

And I'll admit, tan wasn't my first choice ^^; especially for my first (full) doll...but I really really wanted a Waltz, and I have no clue how long it'll be before I actually have Marketplace access. *laughs* But I'm sure I'll love him ^.^

    26. I am looking into considering getting a doll from Blueblood in the future, and figured I would come here and ask those who own them what they have to say about them. How is the resin? How is the quality? That among god only knows how many other questions.

I have been considering a BBD or one of the dolls from the small handful of companies they sell for...
I know I do kind of got my eye on the Jie Altair at the moment....he's taunting me I tell you...>.>

So tell me about them a bit....:)

    27. I have both a BBD and a JeiDoll (although I did not buy my JeiDoll from BBD but from another US dealer). I am exceptionally pleased with my BBD Valentine. Medusa was an absolute dream to work with and her customer service is excellent, prompt and very friendly. The resin is very nice with a slight "tooth" to it and the doll itself has a good weight to him. It is environmental resin so it has a lovely translucent quality to it. The jointing is very well done and my boy stood easily straight out of the box. He poses well and the face-up Medusa did is good quality. Shipping was very fast and I think he actually spent more time held hostage by the evil Canada Customs than he did actually enroute to me.

As for JeiDoll, the one I have is also environmental resin but it is not a match to my BBD (Ryzel is peach skin and I assume Quin is JD's NY). The resin quality, feel and weight is very similar to BBD though. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the advertised default face-up is actually perfect for Quin's character AND body blushing on his torso was also included for free (I don't know if this holds true to the dolls sold through BBD). He stood easily straight out of the box and also poses well.

    29. Hi,

I purchased my first JIE doll, MSD size with face up and blushing and was pleasantly surprised. I think it's a great body that poses well and holds its pose. The face was great. It is a higher quality than I had expected and I am very happy. Lummikat

    31. Hi everyone, gonna squeak in and add my guy Julien here... He's my first boy and the Valentine sculpt. I think he's absolutely awesome and love the translucency of the resin. He has the company face-up by Medusa who was a dream to work with. I think these guys are so pretty but I see so few pictures them.[IMG][/IMG]

    32. Here's Ryzel (Valentine) with his partner Quinlin (Jeidoll Ashford). I really need to make time to take more pictures of them *sigh*. And I totally agree that Medusa is absolutely lovely to deal with.

    33. Iron_Dog - Haha...looks like those two are up to no good..Yes take more pictures! =)... I love seeing other Valentines (and all of Medusa's boys). Something about them just makes me smile. And I love that you have a long wig on your boy. I'd like to get one for my guy too.

    34. Ryzel is always up to no good. He's an Incubus. He can't help but do bad things. It's genetic.

His wig comes about mid-thigh on him and is from Cool Cat. Quin has a slightly different wig now (ironically from BBD) as the one in this photo, while the perfect colour, seemed thin over the ears for my tastes.

Quite a few of my boys have long hair and 2 of them actually have hair past their ankles. Those wigs are a little bit of a pain in the butt to deal with (hello tangles) but their character demanded that so....

    35. I can only imagine what Ryzel would be up to....haha. I bet he's a really interesting character. I'm going to check out the Cool Cat wigs. Thanks! My guy (Julien) is so tired of waiting for me to get the right "one" for him he decided to dig into one of his buddies wigs...gorgeous but not for him. It was a gorgeous rats nest. Do you get all 9/10 wigs for Ryzel? (Julien squeezed himself into this 8/9) Sometimes I find awesome stuff but it's always too small for his globe noggin.

    36. Ryzel and Quin are from my novel, Blind Desire (available through Torquere Press). There are also free-reads from that universe posted to my author LJ (http://id-locke.dreamwidth.org/26950.html) that feature not only them, but others in that world, too (whom I also have as doll but are OT for this thread).

I believe I bought the 8/9 size from Cool Cat. I had gotten him a DZ wig (in 8/9) originally and I swear if I looked at it sideways, it popped off his head. The Cool Cat wig stays on well.

    37. Has anyone put their Blueblood head (any head) on a different body? I don't really care if the resin matches, I'm just going through a serious love-hate phase with my Waltz (love him because he was my first doll, hate him because he's hi-liter yellow and see-through...) and want to completely change him around.

    38. fidelis - your Waltz is that yellow? How long have you had him?...I haven't changed the body (or head) out on my boy...sorry I can't help here.:(
I hope someone can help you out...

    39. mdonline03, it changes depending on the lighting, of course, but by and large he's very yellow. I've only had him for a year, two years this year, and I've taken him outside maybe twice. I'm thinking I might get him a Ringdoll body, since they're made of the same thing. Still undecided though, I might just suck it up and do nothing, haha.

    40. fidelis, can you take pics? I have two Blue Bloods in different colors, but I haven't noticed any yellowing in the two years I've had them. Maybe I don't know what I'm looking for?

    41. This image is somewhat true to life, except he's more of a yellow shade in reality, where this is pinky: link

Maybe I'm just imagining things. I hardly open the blinds or take him outside, so maybe he's a more natural color in actual light. We're due for some new light bulbs anyway.

    42. fidelis - I see what you mean. My boy definitely looks "yellow" when the light is low (evening). He sort of glows. But when he is in indirect light he's much lighter. I know that Island Doll and Camilia Dynasty also do environmental resin if you're still exploring other bodies that might match and haven't looked at those yet.

    43. I have a CD boy(2010) and the translucent quality of the BBD resin means they DO NOT match regardless of the different skin tones. My CD is NY and my BBD is peach-skin, BTW. I can take a pic of them together if you want so you can see what I mean.

    44. First time in this thread! :blush I have to admit to having a love hate relationship with my Waltz, also. I am his second owner (bought him 6 months or so ago) and I soooooo regret having his default faceup redone (by an artist I hadn't used before - so not going the "special deal" route again). I do not like it one little bit (not to mention he arrived with a dandy of a scratch through the faceup).

After going through all of the great photos and glowing posts, I think I'll give him another try though; and see if I can get Ban Sidhe to fix my mistake.......

Here is Donovan before and after:

Yes ... I think I'll give him another chance.

    45. kirahfaye - ooh ouch. That really sucks. I hope you get that scratch fixed soon/get your guy looking as you envisioned! I think these boys have so much potential but a disappointing face-up can change everything. (I've just sent 2 heads off for the first time to be painted, so I may be in your shoes soon). But I have to agree, I kinda like the default face-up better on your boy. I think Medusa/BlueBlood Doll is so awesome, I wonder if you could get her to re-do your boy??

In the meantime my Julien (Valentine) wanted to stop by and give you courage to give your Donovan a second chance.

    46. I was a touch motivated today and hauled out some of my dolls for pictures. Surprisingly, my camera actually played mostly nice with me. This is Ryzel (BBD Valentine) with the love of his demonic life, Quin (JeiDoll Ashford)

I'd like to send Ryzel's head out for a new face-up but that requires money I don't have at the moment *sigh*. I was also too lazy to put Ryzel's horns on him.

    47. Thanks! When I sent Donovan out for a face-up I wanted him to look like a pretty boy (even more so than the default). Now he just looks pretty bad... Ha! I can laugh because the artist didn't charge me and was so apologetic.

    48. LOL...It's good to hear you're still inspired and can laugh about it! And yeh, free + apologetic helps soften things. I can't wait to see what you end up doing with him.

Iron_Dog - So nice to see your boys again. These boys do long hair so well.

    49. Ryzel's hair wasn't supposed to be as long as it is (waist length as opposed to the thigh length he has). I had bought him a DZ wig that was the perfect style/length but I swear if you looked at it sideways, it would pop off. So I ended up getting him the Cool Cat one he's wearing with the intention to trim it shorter. I couldn't bring myself to do it though.

    50. Nope, nope, nope. My blue Blood Waltz just isn't working for the character. :(

    51. I think he could be really pretty with the right face up. He's a really nice sculpt maybe you need to give him another chance :)

    52. What I need is a smaller SD, unfortunately.

    53. That's too bad Kirahfaye. Smaller SD's under the 60-62cm range are not the easiest to find although SoulDoll has their Vito boys that are... 52cm I think. I think some people have gotten a girl and modded them to a boy to get the shorter than 60cm SD boy.

I have a 58cm SD but he was a limited collab project (38 of him were made) and I've never seen another of him anywhere.

    54. Kirahfaye, how about the Dollmore Adam boys? The mold has shrunk, so they're around 58cm now. And Delfs are pretty short too, just under 60cm I think (59cm?). And if you want really small, out of proportion with generally every other doll, there's the Idealian 51's.

    55. BlueBlood Doll have some great sculpts. Unfortunately, the only one I really fell in love with was Waltz. He was one of the first BJDs I ever liked! :) If anyone here has a Waltz, I consider you the luckiest person on earth, haha!

    56. Ok, somebody help the confused please. Why are the BB listed in the non Asian dolls section? They're sold from LA not made there. I lost this list and found it while looking for something else.

    57. I don't know madera. I was under the impression that they were made in China. However since the creator is here in the States, perhaps that's the determining factor?

    58. My Julien asks this question all the time. He feels a little awkward around his buddies from Korea, Thailand and China. But I tell him that maybe it's because he was designed in the US vs. Asia like his buddies. ;) But he'll always be my favourite. :aheartbea

    59. I think it's based on the country that the company/sculptor is in not necessarily where the dolls are actually cast. Lume Doll is considered a non-Asian doll and the sculptor is in Florida but I think she gets her dolls made overseas. Tinybear has RS cast her dolls but she's in the UK and thus is also a non-Asian company. But I could be wrong here.
