BJD Project 2008 ~ MSD Design Contest Voting!

I made a more normal girl this time, she stll came out skinnier than I wanted though. The joints really don't matter, I just find it easier to draw them XD

 

I thought it'd be a perfect time to try to get a mature... CURVY msd~~

I think I will enter a few more times... but I worked pretty hard on this one. Hope you like it!





You can ignore the joints if you want, I just love drawing them. :3

 

Kayke...did you used to go on that..HTDA Oekaki? Haha, well nice design I love bigger dolls but they are so tough to get clothes on.

 

I'm a mod on HTDA... XD I just don't have time to draw on the board anymore.

And I wasn't too concerned about clothes since I make them myself... but I do see it to be a problem if other people don't.

Ah well... I'm also working on skinnier MSD's, too. I will just have to wait till tonight after everyone leaves (it being easter, and all) to scan them in and fix them up.

 

Hi! Can I jump in? I only just set up an account. Darn these dolls for being so much fun! I've got a couple designs finished, once I figure out how to post them...I'm not what you could call computer literate

I could have drawn the ball-joints, but I heard it mentioned that you were working on a better double-joint system, so I leave the joints (sans the joints in the mermaids tail) and their placement in your hands! ^^

Well, thanks to some help I now have the pictures loadable! This is the first design I finished, an elf girl I've started calling Aphrael. If anyone ever read David Eddings' Elenium or Tamuli trilogies, that's where the name is from. Physically she's nothing like the character, but it sounds so nice, and I felt like they are similar-confident, occasionally domineering, and with a desperate need for love and affection (Aphrael always loves kisses!).

Anyway, I drew the knees and elbows double-jointed (although it may not look like what you've developed) with wells in the back of the thighs to allow the legs to bend more fully (think Domuya). The body is more full and adult, but her face is delicate. I just assumed a three-part torso, and even though I was looking at the Domuya dolls for reference I left her feet unjointed in the middle. It's just easier that way. The face-up is just one idea, but I thought braids work well for elves.

So there she is. Aphrael says hello!

Yay I've finished another one! I was mostly doing this for my own amusement and then thought, why not enter her? This beauty's name is Nyssa. I went for a petite look with her and I think she came out well.



She's got a bit of a sleepy look to her face which was accidental but came out rather cute. I was going to give her a tail but then felt it was rather unnecessary since her whole head is cat-like. The gem in her forehead was something added at the last minute to turn her into a magic cat. I hope you all like her. I had fun coming up with the concept .

I also finished this one pretty much right after Nyssa so I thought I'd add her in the same post. This is Dahlia. she's your basic fantasy elf girl with a happy expression on her face. I left her with her hair to add more character to her. Her hair is short and bouncy like her. She's a very happy and playful person.

 

I've got a question for Michikaru:

Not to be rude, but I was wondering if you have any samples of your past sculpting work? I'm just curious~

 

Yup . I've been having a blast. Character design is something I love to do and this competition just brought that side of me out. I've actually got another design in the works right now. Thanks so much for holding this competition Michikaru, creativity abounds and everyone has come up with such nice designs. This is great!

I suddenly got in the mood to design BJ Dolls this afternoon so I made a few more entry.^^ Here they are~



He can be without the horns too... I just got the urge to draw them on. =>.<=



With the snake-like character, there were 2 or 3 kinds of face I imagined. I can't help it. I just looove snakes. ^^- The cutey and the evil... xD They can be without horns too. and, with snake bodies. *.*


This is the other version of the long haired lil guy.^^ You can say that he's the kid version of my adult gorgon guy I designed. ~ The joints are like the ones you see in old styled wooden snake toys.^^ ( Because those move really snake-like.) The bottom of his snaketail is flattened so he could stand with that body too.^^ He's my favourite. ^w^*

And finally, I made a quick "well, they're like this or what..." drawing of my twins:




My last entry'll be an adult guy with more muscles. I don't really think that adult dolls suit to be an MSD but he just came out neverthless.^^

 

I decided to give this a try ^.^

 

that's a very good idea ^^; i don't really care if the designe is changed a little haere and there

but part of it would be having a line too close to the face :/ but if done correctly it could work ;D

 

Alrighty. I'm re-submitting my entry, since I did the side view of the body (sorry, profiles are not my strong suit), and I got the urge to do a full mockup of his face. I named my design after the character I based him on.

 

I didn't realise fantasy/demon dolls were so popular, but here is yet another, I suppose he could also be human if you just ditched the horns and switched his hands and feet for normal ones. He has regular ears under that hair.

It didn't come out quite like I imagined.. but you get the idea, he has a scar across one eye (both can be opened if you like, just showing how he'd look either way) and sharp features.

 

I have one more body to enter. Originally, she was going to be a whole different design but I couldn't seem to come up with a face idea. So, this is a different design for Mien's body.

I can see a lot of talent posted here. I myself will not take part in the contest, but my boyfriend, Shinri, would like to ;p. He's been drawing for the past week for this contest and he's very excited about it!

He can't post his drawings himself here simply because he doesn't have an account and he hardly speak english lol. So not only am I posting his drawings, but I'll be translating his comments and indications.

So here they are!


Shinri: For this frontal view, I drew him half-demon and half-human to show that his appearance can be switched from one to the other. The head-cap, the ears, the forearms and the hands can be switched to change him from human to demon.


Shinri: Here's a detail view of the heads possible through changing the head-cap and ears. I also decided to draw an expressive character : he's smirking which cause an adorable dimple on his cheek. (Claushiru: ok, I admit he didn't really say "adorable" ... but it is! X3)


Shinri: Here's a detail view for the switchable forearms and the comparison between demon hand and human hand.


Shinri: Details for the human hand and the torso, with 2 possible junctions. (meaning: you can cut his chest higher than a normal bjd or stay at the standard cut)

Shinri: I imagined him as a double-jointed bjd, but I'm not enough of an expert to draw those well... but I tried! Other than that... I thought about wings, but that would make the bjd much more complex and you don't need complexity do you ;p. Buuut if you're up to the challenge, I can still draw wings ;p Or maybe make it a clothing/accessory.

I hope to be able to sketch one (or two) up and scan it in and fix it up in photoshop in time XD

wooh! hope i'm not too late!! @__@ this was...wow, i really worked hard xD ive been watching the thread for a while and haven't said anything but..well, here i am! xD please excuse some of the crappyness, i usually do digital art but my dog recently ATE my tablet pen. so, still wanting to enter, i taught myself how to use colored pencils (still suck though) and a manga-style dip pen x_X im hoping maybe i'll have time to finish up the other three i have uninked ..oh, and theres a body i have to finish inking too! x__X and maybe redo the side view of the body..*fret fret fret*

I guess this one came out of my frustration of looking for an MSD sized boy with the same qualities as the SD sized. Why do all the bigger boys get all the glory (and the muscles)? I have found some MSD boys with lovely bodies but with such cute I-wanna-pinch-his-widdle-cheeks faces or boys with a face full of attitude but with a smooth, boyish body. And ne'er the twain shall meet (if mostly because the snarky heads sell out or the resin may not match). Anyway, here's my attempt (because a couple of friends gave me the necessary nudge ). I did my best to keep the proportions right (but I am not sure I got the profile to match the front view of his face).

 

He's absolutely wonderful xtal..I'd love to have him

I've had these in my sketchbook for like, a week... but then completely forgot about them.

XD Hope it's not too late.







First two heads belong on the girl body, the last two are for the guy body.

edit: The first head is a remake of Star- this head is drawn bigger and better than the one on the chubby body. :3

Oh, and all the bodies have 2 arms, feet, and hands.. I just got really lazy. XD

The girl heads can go on either the petite body or the curvy body. :3

 

I finished one other, probably just in time. I've been looking around trying to pick my first doll, and haven't seen many that really look asian. So, I tried to draw a young asian girl. I started calling her Yee-Sang, so I guess she's Korean. The lines on her upper thighs and arms are rotational joints for better posability, and her torso is two pieces. Hope people like. Everyone else's designs are absolutely incredible. I've had as much fun watching as I have drawing!

As a random note, I think my scanner is dying...

And to think of all the work people have put into their designs! I just overlooked them all ... finalists and non-finalists! They`re all awesome! One of my faves is the mermaid girl, but she didn`t make it in the finalists ... Recently me and one of my friends discussed the lack of mermaid BJD`s! I think there`d be a lot of interest ... but that`s just my humble opinion ... LOL

And no matter who wins, all the entries were amazing! All who participated - You ROCK!!!
