1. Inuchick:
You can the joints if you want. I do not mind at all. :)
I am still thinking about that idea of 2nd and 3rd. I figure I can defiantly finish the 1st place winning doll during the summerโ€ฆ (X_X) I think...

Lilith Di Levilio:
Overwork? When have I not over worked myself? *thinks really hard* XP

2. I think I might have to join in on this action!:)

3. OH!!! I love this contest! you came up with a wonderful idea, michikaru :D

I used to draw a lot when I was at high school, but now... er... I don't think I can draw something now... I might give it a try though! it would be really amazing to see your own design being sculpted!

I love all the entries by now, I hope to see many new ones!

4. I came up with a design! <3 It's a bit rough at the moment, I'll go back and redo some things. I was going for a smoother younger body than I ended up with... haha Oops. But without further ado... here's Ichiro! <3

Oh crud... I forgot to censor... sorry! When I go back and redo his design, I'll fix that too! orz

5. SkyexX: Yay, YAY! The more the merrier is what I always say. >XD <3

Siruveru: Aw, thanks! *Hugs* I thought it was a good idea. I thought it was a good idea for those that don’t wish to spend hundreds to have their doll sculpted by a company.

Inuchick: Wow, I can understand now why you wanted the joints in the drawing. It looks great like that. So you didn’t like the double joint system then? This makes me wonder if I should post my ideas on modifying the joint systems. I did some research on other dolls, and tried to make it slightly better… but yeah. :) Great design! <33

6. Actually Michikaru, I love double joints... XD I think that system can work very well and still look asthetically pleasing. After checking out the Twiglimbs system I was going to do some more detailed sketching because I think that double joints SERIOUSLY help out posing. ^__^ There's a few things I'm going to modify and repost to make my design a bit more compatible with your original plan. <3

:Edit: I would LOVE to see your ideas on joint improvement. I love technical stuff. ^__^

7. inuchick:

LMAO! XD I love technical stuff too.

OH! I've been meaning to ask. What's with the disk between the leg-hip joints. I've seen it a few times, but I've wondered what use it is for. XP~

8. Wonderful idea. I haven't really sat down and actually drawn in what feels like a long time. Ever since two summers ago I've been...uninspired. But this might be the kick in the ass I need. I'll see if I can draw up something and if I like it, I'll post it here.

9. Spectrum_Rhapsody:

Lol! I can't wait to see. Good Luck! <333

10. The disk is for more full rotation, just like with the arms. Though when I think about it, the legs don't really need it and the way it is on my El just makes things more frustrating as their legs are always twisting around lol. It really is a lot more helpful in the arm sockets though, because it allows them to rotate their shoulders forward or back in more humanlike poses, instead of being stuck in one spot. ^__^

11. is it alright if I add some alternative head designs?

12. [IMG]
This is only the head so far, and I apologize if it's hard to see, but my scanner crapped out on me tonight, so the camera would have to suffice for now. Hopefully I'll have the scanner up and running again by the time I get to the body...Anyway, this is the rough sketch for a male head. I've never really done a side shot before, so this is my first one (which is why it looks crappier than the frontal). I did have some trouble remembering how to do the lips too...Damn I'm rusty. I'll most likely put more work into the head once I get the body drawn up and I get a new inking pen (Arthur stole my current one...the little poofy black haired, lip-ringed gremlin...:|).

13. Inuchick: Now that is interesting, but I can’t seem to get my head around it. I hope you don’t mind, but what do you mean by moving the shoulder forward of back? I’ve never noticed that before, but it defiantly would come in handy

maya-marie: Go right ahead. I do not mind at all.

Spectrum_Rhapsody: Lol, it is still better than what I can do. Scanners crap out on me as well and my camera is a paper weight. :)

14. Michikaru ~ just don't bite off more than you can chew!

Psycofox~ Hey! Great minds think alike huh? haha ~_^

15. Michikaru: Picture viewing a doll sideways, so that one of their shoulders is facing you. Arm sockets without the extra cap hold the shoulders absolutely stationary except for 360 rotation like a propeller or lifting of the arm. The cap allows that shoulder to be shrugged forward or put backward like a human who's slouching or putting their shoulders back for good posture. Now with a human that's mostly done with the back muscles, but since dolls don't have back muscles some companies have emulated that general feel with the shoulder caps. Was that a bit more explanitory?

16. Here's the body for Mien that I promised. Now she's no longer just a drawing of floating heads. I went for a young adult look for this one. I also tried for a smaller bust to add to the youthfulness.

She ended up looking rather petite which I guess is a good thing since we're going for MSD here ^_^.

KusanarsUnicorn~ They sure do! I was worried at first because you had just posted such a nice unicorn girl that posting my unicorn boy right afterward might look a little bad :sweat.

17. KusanarsUnicorn: Orone? XP
I guess you were referring to the extra work load I wanted to add, but come on! All these designs are just too GOOD to not want to do them all, ne? I must say, there are many, really talented people here.

Inuchick: Ah! This makes sense. It helps take away the rigidly frontal aspect of the shoulders and allows the doll to have more humanist characteristics (Edit: Look! I sound smart! :)). I think I just might start looking for pictures of this as reference material and add the disk thing to the dolls I sculpt. I think it would add a bit of dynamics to the doll that would be just fantastic. <333

Psycofox: Oooh la la! She is very fem and delicate looking. Her hands also look very graceful as well. Fantastic idea!

AH! I got an idea. What if someone was to study the body structure of Ballerinas? It shouldnโ€™t be too hard considering the skin tight costumes they wear. It will make a great reference if on was to think about making a graceful looking design for either a girl or even boy.

Another great reference would be Greek or Roman sculpture.

==========================================================================

Some examples Iโ€™ve found:
I left the images at big sizes so that you can see the details better. XP

18. Thanks for the reference pictures Michikaru. I think that's a very good ides. Also, I'm glad you like Mien's body ^_^. Oh, have you ever seen the paintings and drawings by Degas? He dedicated his whole life to the study of ballerinas.

This is just one of the many he created during his lifetime. Degas is actually one of my favorite artists of all time and since you mentioned dancers, I just had to share ^_^.

19. [IMG]

I didn't draw an overly buff guy, I went for something a little more boyish, but there's still some definition.

20. Psycofox~ When I saw I it I went "Oh! *looks at my picture and chuckles* she drew you a boyfriend!" haha

21. Okay, here goes my attempt! She`s based on my original character, so she`s a feminine vampire with black feathered wings ... The wings are optional, and she can just go without them too, I just drew them because it fits her character! And her name is Estella!

[IMG][IMG]

22. [IMG]

I'm sorry it sucks so much >.< I'll do better tommrow

23. Well, I'm still working on the side view of this but I just had to share this.

This is Keldred. She's another Half Dragon but she's different than Tiam because Keldred has very distinct scales and brow ridge. She also has a tail. For turning her into a doll purpose, her tail could be attached by magnets so it's removable. Her horns would also be detachable ^_^. Anyway, A profile of her is on the way but I just had to share this. Hope you like her.

24. Everyone's designs are so neat! :D This contest looks like a lot of fun, and I want to try my hand at it (haven't drawn in a while, though. :sweat) I think I'll join in after my midterms are over. :)

25. hmmm.... in that case I dont think I will join anymore :( pitty becous I even had a male friend to model for me... but he's way to buff an manly to put into an msd design :( ( he's a turner )

26. Psycofox: Ah! I’ve heard of him. I’ve never taken much thought to look at his works, but I might reconsider. That painting looks great! <3

Humbug: Great job, and good luck! :)

Lilith Di Levilio: Ooooh! Very lovely name. <3

maya-marie: Don’t worry about it. Great job! <3

Psycofox: Great job on Keldred. She is very lovely. <3

Lhianna: I know! :) Can’t wait for you to join, and good luck on your tests! <3

Hasel: Awww. :( Well next year isn’t so far away, so I should hope to see you then. :P

Thank you everyone! Many hearts to you all! <33333

27. Awww only MSD.... fudge. my drawing is a little to masculine to pull off being MSD. Guess I'll have to whip up a new set of entries. ;) I'll probably do a girl, a boy, and an anthro, since everyone seems to like those.
........And maybe I'll post my SD boy just for kicks. Cause he's yummy and makes me happy. :)

28. Well.. here's my submission I guess <_< it has multiple views :3 and a detailed sideview of the face.. xD I so suck at proportions/keeping things symmetrical.. But you get the general(though somewhat detailed) idea :3 I love how she has a smaller waist, but with a bit thicker legs, and a slight belly.
She has slightly flatter feet, but I want them to be ab it delicate, she is only single jointed, because I find the double jointed elbows and knees rather creepy, and not realistic, it may pose better but it looks creepy and makes them have a rather, not sure.
But can people really bend their elbows and knees in two places? ;) not usually, no :D *adores her design, even though it's not great* The left eye is the one I like best design wise <.< But I couldn't get the right one as good.

29. Hello! My last design ;u;/
Same body type as Surre, less mature than Guren so it can be more suited to MSD size...
This is a shy vampire boy, because they seem uncommon...though depending on the faceup, I guess he can look evil too xD

alternative faceup was when I was colouring it in...but wasn't happy with the result >_<; It's only there for comparison, though I prefer his pale version more...
This is quite fun! I really enjoy looking at peoples designs ^^

30. Heres my boy design, I'll probably do a girl and maybe a more mature boy but I wasnt sure of the proportions because I don't have an MSD. Well, I hope this works, he is basically a younger version of my character Chris ^_^ (he would also have white angel wings, but those are optional and I forgot to draw them in lol )
I leave the joints up to your imagination as you probably have a better idea about them XD

31. I finished the profile for Keldred ^_^! Sorry it took a while for me to finish the side view but finals at college have me swamped right about now *_*. I'm putting the front view up again together with it because it looks better to see them side by side.

It's actually easier to see in the side view that her mouth is slightly opened. Anyway, love peoples designs and this is a lot of fun.

32. here are my plans.
they aren't very detailed, but the feature i wanted to stress was the slouchy posture.
http://casthem.deviantart.com/art/PrettyBoy-ENTRY-Plans-80080933
the front view looks kinda weird i'll see if i can fix it later.

the face was drawn for my BJD project a while ago but i never finished :(. I have a cleaner bald version too, but not here.
this is Tyler, my pretty boy.
http://casthem.deviantart.com/art/PrettyBoy-Tyler-80082539
i have other portraits of him and other characters but they're all at school.
Pretty boy plans dedicated to the 3 most beautiful boys i have ever seen. XD

33. It's me again and I've got another girl! I'm having extreme difficulty with the front view so this is only the side. I've included the joints this time (or where I think they go at least) so that I didn't get completely lost. Please let me know if I've gone completely off my rocker with this....

This beauty's name is Elora. I hope I did ok with the joints and all. I had a lot of fun drawing her and I'll get a frontal view of her as soon as I can. (Once I find references and figure out how...*_*)

34. Just a scrap for a body,
im planning on making my own doll..
but i don't have time D:

I will post some better pics soon.

I pretty much have a whole unoa-ish double leg joint system tought out...but i have no clue if it really works well ~_~"
And i hope you don't have a problem with more realistic looking faces o_O"

35. Here's my second design, an elf girl , I hope you like her!

36. Miss_Pygmalion: Do it! If you want Iโ€™ll even add it to the BJD 2009 Project listing is you so wish. X3

Arekya: Cute! I love the structure of her hips. Is niiiice. ;)

Naoki: Great design! I like looking at the designs too. :)

licorice-embryo: Darling face. Makes me want to hug him. :3

Psycofox: Yet another great design. Bravo!

Hemre: Is all nice. :3

Psycofox: On a roll? XD

Naiara: Great ideas. <33

licorice-embryo: Too cute. She has a little vulnerable side to her facial feature. <3

Hey guys, thanks for your designs. Just remember that the contest is coming close to the end. Are you excited? I am. :D I am setting up my website right now, so be ready to see all your designs up and group together really soon. There will only be two winners for this contest, one girl and one boy. I did this โ€˜cause I ended up making a Roman-esc and a Classical Design for myself that I want to do.

Any who, thank you and good luck! <333

Edit: http://www.ma-petite-amour.com/index.html This site will be up and down until I have everything figured out. My webmistress was kind enough to get my images to work, but don't be surprised if this doesn't stay so. :doh

37. This is such a wonderful thing that you're doing, Michikaru!:) I've been working on my submission as well. Everyone's designs are fantastic! Cool stuff.

I, for one, think that there's an unfortunate lack of masculine mini boys out there. I've only found one sculpt that I like--the Lati Blue with the muscular body--but the faces just aren't mature enough for my liking, and lovely as the torso is, I'd love it to be jointed so it didn't look so stiff. I have a character that I'd love to put into doll form, but he would go with my mature mini girl, so he would need to match. It seems to me that the masculine mini boy niche is in need of filling.;)

So, if I could make my own boy to fulfill my own selfish desire (:)), he'd look pretty much like this:

Broad shoulders, muscles, strong jawline, TALL.......... *sigh* I wish I could sculpt.

Anyway, thanks for looking!:)

38. Soundsgood! :D I'll surely post some of my BJD plans!^^

39. Wohooo! Finally finished my designs!

My first is a girl. This is Sasha, a mischevious little elf. I got a little distracted and didn't draw all of the detail in one of her arms....:sweat

My second design is a boy. I decided to deviate from the trend of anthro designs and do a mech boy. Let me just say, credit where credit is do. I took some design inspiration fron Batchix and Enaibi. And I blended the functionality of Kid Delf thigh joints with Feeple knees. And the ears are straigth out of Chobits. Cause c'mon, who wouldn't love thier own little persocom? His name is Seijiro, by the way, and I'm not quite finished with his side view yet....

And this was my SD design, Gabriel I post him only because he is yummy.:blush Feel free to put him on the 2009 roster.;)

If you need more detailed pictures (Seijiro's lines are kinda complicated) I will be happy to oblige.:)

40. [IMG]

i haven't draw the hands and i'm not good on realism
hope is good enough ^^
i'm also planning a boy

41. Finished one more entry! This time it`s a boy ... well actually a feline demon! He`s also my original character. He`s very feminine and gentle looking. As he`s half cat, he has long claws, but I drew also optional hands that would be without the claws and would be a slight version of a paw with the nails pulled in. He also has small fangs and pointed ears ... He`s a cute and mischievous creature! Well I hope you like! ^^ And his name is Amaranthe.

[IMG][IMG]

Two closeups of the face - one colored and one is the original sketch as you can see the details better in the second one ...

[IMG][IMG]

42. Whew...finally got the front view for Elora done!

So yeah, here's my girl again, this time facing forward. If I can find the time between massive amounts of finals, I'll try to submit a few other designs ^_^.

43. About your questions in post #58. What if as well as the two runners up getting their entries on the "to be sculpted maybe later" list, if they also got some sort of dicount on the price of the winning doll?

44. [IMG]

i didn't know how to draw muscles and i start to shadowing everything XD
hope is clear enough

45. Poohki: *sigh* I wish I can draw. Great design, thanks! <3

Bake_Neko: Lol, okay! <3 But hurry, it ends soon.

Miss_Pygmalion:
Sasha, niiiice~
Seijiro needs a hug. XD
Gabriel needs @!#*$, lol

Ninive: Cute! Sheโ€™s so tiny~ <3

Lilith Di Levilio: Nice detail with Amarantheโ€™s paw. <3

Psycofox: Ah! There she is. Hello.

Miss_Pygmalion: Ah, well that will be unfair to the first place winners. I also want the price for all the dolls to be less than $200, and adding discounts will raise the original pricings.

Ninive: Ah. That is okay. Does he have a name? Anyway, he is very nice, and you have a good concept on proportions. :)

46. The girl I made, from her ears I think she is a butterfly girl.. <_< i wonder if i should try my hand at a boy, and good luck everyone, all the designs are so awesome ^_^;

47. [IMG]

i wasn's planning to do another but i got suddenly inspired XD

i have to give them names?
i saw that others give names to they're projects but is not write on the rules so i though that it wasn't necessary

48. :love L.O.V.E.

49. First of all, respect for those who use CG well =''D Ive ended the faceup CGs after these 3 entries and my hand hurts X_X </crycry>

Well ive done 2 types of female bodies and 3 heads. Maybe they're okay to mix them...? (This will be at my boy entries too.)
Well, here they are, i hope you'll like them ^^

And the second type body
[IMG]

And one thing, i just love this thread. Its so nice this ideas of you! :D I love seeing them. :aheartbea

50. ninive: No, you don’t have to name your designs. I was just wondering for curiosity’s sakes. XP

moniee: Thank you! <3

:) *hugs* for everyone.

51. O___O;;

I just gathered and catagorized all submissions.... There are 31 designs so far.... Coool!!!

Okay, (>_<) back to business. (Note to self: Stop being a baka). Be ready to see you design on Ma Petite Amour. We are almost ready to put the entire site up, and all of your designs will be catagoized in the by Boy and Girl, labeled alphabeticaly under your DoA username.

52. I was inspired to do another one today ... I don`t know why, but I seem to be drawn to sea deities lately and I think there should be some bjd mermen and I thought it would be so cool if he did actually have a jointed tail, so here`s my design. I named him Delmare (meaning ''from the sea'').

He has webbing between his fingers.

[IMG][IMG]

And also coloured and BW version of the face:

53. [IMG]

Here is a female head I have called "Spice". I'll work on the body tonight when I get back to work.

Now to go play with my brand new airbrush~

54. Oh it's so great to see all kinds of designs that I couldn't help but draw one, too^^

There is definitely a mature theme going on with the girls, so I tried to do something younger - I think I managed to fail, at least partially :sweat. And I realized that not only do I suck with hands and feet, but drawing profile is not my strength either...Oh well, please welcome Darla (name courtesy of my brother^^) the young dragonet with a spitfire personality.

55. Finally... I'm ready too.^^
Yeah. There was definitely more mature dolls in here. I tried to do one too but if I hear the word MSD I see something cute rather than mature so I couldn't. XD;;
Here are the little guys:

They're twins~
[IMG]

I drew the joints (less or more) but just because I feel the need to draw them in O.o; So they're just for show as all the face-usps are. I just brainstormed something on the heads. But it was fun.^^ Like exercising in Photoshop. XD
Maybe I'll do more girls but... I like boys more. :D hah bet you didn't guessed that one.XDD
Anyway, I hope you like them.^^

56. Well, ive drawn 2 boy bodies but the start of this contest, the rule was to draw SD sized male bodies...so, i drew this for that, but maybe its okay for an MSD size too(can delete the muscles.)
And, sorry this time no faceup ='''D maybe tomorrow...
Please welcome them ^^

And the heads
[IMG]

57. Wow, how exciting! I'll have to come up with some sketches on the plane.

Such good designs so far, I'm a little intimidated!

58. its cause i need several weeks for choose a name ^^'' and i don't think i have the time

59. Eeep, time is running out, only 10 days until the 31st! I'm close to being finished with my submissions, I'll have them posted real soon!

Great work everyone, very impressive! ^_^

I do have a question: When you stated in the first post that "All submissions should be sent with both views in one post each." What did you mean by that exactly?

60. Great dessigns everyone!!! <333

I wanted the front and side views per a subission. So if you had more than one submissions, but them in one post each. BUt don't worry about the last part. x_X It wasn't all that important...
