Best vs worst: Bodies

Sep 16, 2020

    1. Tell me about your favorite bodies! How is the posing? How well do they stand? Is it easy to find clothes to fit them? Any cool features? (like iplehouses hip locks)

Conversely, are there any bodies you really dislike? Maybe they don't pose well, or the proportions are too wonky. Maybe they just feel clunky or sloppy, no matter what you do.

I'm mostly interested in 70cm male bodies atm, but I would love to learn about all of them! I'm also super interested in fantasy bodies, with tails, hooves, paws, etc. I want to add a variety of sizes and types to my collection.

    2. The worst body I've ever handled was the one that came with the Bobobie Luna I purchased secondhand. I'm pretty sure that it was her original body. The aesthetics weren't half bad, but its posing was so utterly abysmal that even after restringing AND wiring, she could not stand WITH THE HELP OF A DOLL STAND. I'm willing to tolerate a BJD needing a stand to assist them, but a two-legged, non-mermaid one that cannot stand upright even with the assistance of a stand? No thanks. She was bad at sitting, too, so there were no good ways to display her.

The best body I've handled so far is my Loongsoul Autumn Yue, which came on the Loong Soul 42.5cm Girl Body (B-G42-03). The doll's appearance is beautiful, and the joints click into place at almost every angle. It's an MSD body, but perhaps the SD bodies from Loongsoul are similar?

    3. I don't have a favorite body, but the DOD Doom body is my nightmare. I love my Bomi to pieces but she's so so kicky and heavy, I get tired trying to get those kicky legs to stand.
Tried sueding and wiring, but hasn't helped. She's beautiful but dear lord :doh

    4. My tiny Granado Lucifer is on a tiny version of their 'Vigor' body and his posing is maybe the best I've seen. He can hold a crouched pose most of my dolls can't even do. The full-size version might be the size your looking for.

I've got mixed feelings about the body my D.I.M. girl has. While I like her mobility, I don't love how her elbows and knees look.

I've come to dislike single jointed bodies in general. My Soom Mini Gems' knees have two positions they can hold locked straight or bent 90 degrees.

    5. My favorite bodies come from Dream Valley. The ones I have stand so solid and hold poses relatively well without sueding. There are also these great little notches on the back of the knee joint that help with keeping legs bent at certain angles.
On the other hand, my most stubborn body is ResinSoul Ming's. He's been restrung, sueded, and wired, yet he's still super kicky and refuses to stand even with support. To be fair, he has a lot of leg joints.

    6. I feel like a broken record since I've said this so many times here on DOA, but Dream Valley bodies (specifically the male bodies but the female bodies too) are the best I've ever had. They have a really unique lanky aesthetic, but unlike other super slim bodies (lookin' at you, Doll Chateau) they're extremely stable. I've had mine (both 70+ and ~50cm) standing on display for months with no issues at all.

Their biggest issue is dressing, since their weird size means clothes aren't made for them. But somehow I've found that clothes still end up looking good on them even if they don't fit perfectly.

Worst are honestly just every single jointed body I've had, I'm sorry to say. I bought a Leekeworld art body and Baby Delf body early in the hobby for the aesthetic, and they both frustrated me to no end. Couldn't touch their face, couldn't seem to do any poses other than sitting or laying. And unfortunately both of them were more expensive than any of my other dolls at the time.

Dishonorable mention goes out to my Island Doll Wind 39cm body, who is technically double jointed but is so difficult to pose it might as well be single jointed. :sigh I think that type of useless double jointed body is even more frustrating than single jointed bodies just because they get my hopes up...

    7. Worst in my collection:
Probably my Aimarai 60cm girl. Can not seem to get a natural looking pose out of her at all and is very blocky.

      Best in my collection:
2Ddoll 68cm boy body. Fantastic poser, beautiful resin. Also my 60cm Peak's Woods girl. The best sitter I have ever seen, though she does lack double jointed knees.

    8. Leekeworld art body used to be on my grail list. I happened to come across some photos showing its poseability (or lack thereof) before spending any money on it. I still love the aesthetic so much, I wish there was something more poseable that looked similar.

    9. BEST:
      - 2D Doll; they're really underrated, IMO. The quality really shines through in the sculpting and engineering. They can hold really cute poses without snapping or flopping. The joints move really smoothly and the resin is nice and weighty. Both the 1/4 and 1/6 bodies are so much fun to pose and dress. The 1/4 boy is a lovely proportioned slim mini; it's one of my favorite bodies! The 1/4 curvy girl is very voluptuous--she's hit-or-miss with premade clothing fit, though.
      - Akagi Doll; the 1/4 male is the best posing budget-friendly body I have ever handled. It's also very nicely sculpted and feels sturdy. Really good at sitting and standing on his own. The arms/legs are a little longer than average, so pants and long sleeve shirts can be a little short.
      - Volks; I like the look of single-jointed bodies, and these are the prettiest, best-engineered single jointed bodies I've had. The hand-changing system is great; much more secure than a magnet system. They set the standard for BJD sizes, so most clothes and shoes fit them.

      WORST:
      - Miro Doll and Bobobie/ResinSoul. Poorly fitting joints, terrible at posing. I've owned a few over the years and ended up selling them all because they were such an annoyance to work with.

      • x 5
    10. Atelier Momoni makes the best engineered bodies I've personally owned, so far.

      • x 2
    11. Best:
      - Dollzone B45-017. It poses so nicely and looks good while doing it.
      - Luts SD65. The older one (I haven't handled the new one yet).
      - Aimerai 17cm. It probably has to do with the size but it's a fully double jointed 1/8 and holds any pose you put it in. Shame they only have one head mold for it.

      Worst:
      - Resinsoul single jointed bodies. All of them. Double jointed ones are better but not perfect. So if ya ever get one, swing for the double jointed body.
      - Original Luts SSDF. Tall, lankey, arms won't stay up even with wiring, and they always want to slouch!
      - Iplehouse EiD. I'm gonna add this to worst because even though I absolutely love the look of them, the hips and ankles are just so terrible. They're overengineered in the hips but underengineered in the ankles (seriously there's like no ankle joint, it's leg to foot!).

      • x 3
    12. The worst body I've ever dealt with so far is the old Migidoll boy body! I could not get it to stand or sit on its own even after restringing and sueding the joints... I was so frustrated with it that I just gave up.

      • x 1
    13. I think the best overall body (in terms of engineering/posing) I've had is the Akagidoll 1/4 body (although their 1/3 is the same at a different scale). The peanut style joints aren't my favorite aesthetically, but this is the only body I have with virtually no annoying quirks out of the box. The ankles wobble and that is IT. It does everything else with no problem and looks great.

The Dollshe Fashion Mystic body looks very nice and doesn't frustrate me either. The hands are my favorite. I've replaced most of my 1/4 scale doll hands with Dollshe hands.

My actual nicest posing doll is a heavily modded Resinsoul Seng (Ming body). Out of the box the body is very quirky and not too attractive, but with some work it handles like a dream. I've recreated the same mods on the Rong and Tang bodies and they also improved, but they didn't reach near-perfect posing like the Ming body.

Also - this is a very specific point - ResinsoulTang feet fit Tonner Matt shoes perfectly. These are the nicest type of shoes to look in-scale for mature male 1/4 dolls, so I've replaced a few feet with Tang feet as well.

Worst is my Soulkid NL boy. Pretty, but the absolute most stiff and frustrating body, and just slightly too big for most MSD clothes. Iplehouse FID is the runner-up worst... it has most of the same annoying design choices as the Soulkid, but at least it can sit naturally.

      • x 3
    14. What kind of modding did you do? I'd love to get my Ming body to pose well.

    15. Best posing: Impldoll Idol male, first generation. Perfectly balanced, fantastic engineering. He can even hold leg up in the air. For a 70 cm, that's great in my book. He also can do "action poses". All of that just with stringing, never did any sueding or wiring.

On the contrary, I had two bodies which really frustrated me: the absolutely first body Granado ever did. He liked to suddenly bow his hip joint...I was always shocked and surprised. Got rid of it.

Also, Iplehouse are just absolutely stunning to look at. Posing-wise, the old EID body was just frustrating. Could not sit, did stand very awkwardly, and God forbid you ever tried to do something more out of the way with him than just standing straight up and down. Bending arms and knees was a workout. Was glad when that body was gone.

Also, the SID female body was not great either. Could not get the knees to stay bent. Not even with sueding. Comparing it to the SID male knee, the knee is too short to stay in place.

The final Iple body I still have is the SID old male. Keeping it for sentimental reasons, and did tons of modding on it (might one day do a thread about it). Had I known this, I would have gotten another 65 cm body for sure.

In general, I never could get the Iple hip locks to work as intended. Also, was frustrated by the ankles, they are beautiful, but ridiculour to pose (that is why the can only stand straight). And the SID's elbow joints - not useable as soon as the guy wears anything long-sleeved and too tight to push it up the arm, so that the elbow becomes visible.

Okay, that's enough. Overall, I went 85 % Impl with my crew and am overall very happy.

      • x 4
    16. My favorite body is Creature Doll , which unfortunately no longer exists. The design of the joints allows for lots of poses without too much fiddling, and she's solid in many positions. I actually really liked how my minifee A line posed too, although I see all the time that people don't like the posing for minifee.

My least favorite was my Aileen Doll resin dragon. The body was so frustrating, I just couldn't get the hang of it.

I gotta say I'm disappointed in the Racoondoll woman body. Posing is ok in most areas, and so is aesthetics, but her hands won't bend at the wrist at all, and they are a weird size and pose. I like the overall shape but I've got to do something about these wrists, it limits her expressiveness a lot. And her feet are also ridiculously tiny. I've bought so so many shoes and still she is shoeless.

    17. Everyone has to be tired of hearing me talk about Twigling, but here I am! I think my favourite feature I’ve ever had on a body was the shoulder joint on the twigling bodies, which, though not as extreme as impl or pasha in terms of mobility, do really allow for more arm/shoulder movement. Their knees and elbows feel really well engineered too, and though it’s an unusual way of stringing, I really like the head/torso and legs stringing separately, because I’m not very strong, and I don’t have to deal with as much tension.

The least favourite is the pre-renewal EID man. Gods above, his body is a nightmare. I need to wire and suede to see if it can be saved without modding. Otherwise, I need to figure out if the HID has ever been offered in ebony and just upgrade him. The slider joints in his elbows and knees are just a pain, and don’t get me started on the butt flap joints.

    18. I have small dolls and i find that they are all kicky.

    19. Best: Loongsoul 1/3 boy and girl, Doll Leaves 60cm boy, Luts senior delf. They’re all pretty bodies that are also functional straight out of the box. Doll Leaves and Loongsoul are in high competition for best poser! A friend and I had a pose-off between them, both were fully capable of all sorts of crazy poses, though I would say Doll Leaves won because the joints look prettier while doing it.

Worst: Mirodoll 60cm girl. It was a floppy mess straight out of the box, and restringing and sueding didn’t help. The engineering was just bad. She was supposed to be a sun kissed tan color and turned out this sickly orangey green with horrific sanding marks and some unsanded edges so sharp they could cut you. It was the lowest quality resin I’ve ever seen. Honestly, the sleeping bag she came in was better quality than the doll and I don’t think I’ve ever been so disappointed upon opening a box. This was probably about 6 years ago, I don’t know if they’ve improved since, though my OfButterfliesNThings Paulette cast by Miro is definitely better but still needed some work. Second and third worst would be Granado Nuevo girl and ResinSoul old 70cm boy. I don’t care for the aesthetic or posing on either.

    20. My most disliked body is Fdoll's boy body. THE BUTTON NIPPLES. They are unrealistic and protrude enough to show through tight clothes. :doh

Most disliked body that I still own is Resinsoul's 70cm body. I absolutely despise that the dong ends in a right angle. It also sits really weird in clothing at times. Fortunately the character I am using it for now wears baggy pants so it doesn't show off in a way that'll bug me.

My major peeves seems to sculpting details that make clothes look bad... Like I'm personally not a big fan of six pack abs (every doll in the 70cm range seems doomed to have a lot of ab definition. I prefer a smooth tummy tbh) but at least they don't show through clothes. I enjoy good posing but I don't really mind beyond "can it sit and stand" because I don't use my dolls for photoshoots nearly as much as I thought I would so the majority of my dolls are sitting or standing.

My favorite body aesthetically in LLT's Ballerino body.

Utility-wise, I really like Luts SSDF. He poses well and his removable hands are so handy (lol), but sculpt-wise it's like good enough but.... his poor tiny butt.... I like Luts's bodies in general on account of having owned 3. Only sold one of them due to reshelling the character rather than an active dislike.

    21. I’ve only had a couple bodies that are my favorite. First was my msd Charm Doll (sister company to Loongsoul). The joints had locks that made holding poses so easy. The body was nice and solid, not kicky at all. Second is my Granado 30cm Napoleon on the Vigor body. He’s action figure size, and is amazing with the engineering.

Worst is my Doll Chateau Fiona. I love her sculpt, but not having regular feet, but sculpted high heels, means she can’t stand on her own. Plus the extra joints at her ankles bend in odd ways. She looks beautiful when sitting though.

    22. Best Body I've Owned/Handled Overall: Volks SD10-B Renewal. The proportions and detailing are absolutely breathtaking. Could not be more perfect. And despite the tiny feet, he stands like a rock and poses quite well. It's a real shame I don't usually go for Volks' headsculpts...

Best Poser: Dikadoll, flat out. Not even a contest. I've got a Dikadoll Shall on the oldschool 3-part torso (long since discontinued, the oldest body they sell now in 70cm category is the Version II) and holy crap. He can do anything I could possibly want, and hold it without wires. It's a shame the aesthetics are terrible (shoulder donuts! We hates them, precious), because the posing really is all that.

Worst Body Overall: Okay, so I don't actually own this one, but I HAVE handled it. The old EID Superhero body. Oof! I mean, yeah it's pretty, but...The hips are hot mess, the elbow joint won't hold a pose to save its life and is single jointed to boot (I'm a lot more forgiving of single-jointed knees than single-jointed elbows), I don't like the way the hands are sculpted...The list goes on. Did I mention the hip situation?? Because it bears mentioning twice. And with the thigh mobility joint, we got some serious crazy legs going on...Anyway, I'm really glad they retired this one.

    23. Best: Soom Rosette. This is by far the best posing doll I've ever had, she can kneel down, she can slump over, she can do almost anything I try to have her do.

Worst: my Akhmel dolls cannot stand on their own. Or even really sit up unsupported, they are so tiny that the elastic that works for them just doesn't hold tension very long or well. I don't really mind, because I didn't get them to be elegant posers, but, it is there.

Also my Souldouble girl. I love her, but her leg and arm peanuts are shaped such that even though she's double jointed, in practice they want to be single jointed, and her torso joint doesn't move much.

      • x 1
    24. Best: I've owned a few that were good posers that I sold for aesthetic reasons. Out of those I still own, Luts current SSDF and Migidoll Guy II bodies are both pretty good.

Worst: I sold my EID Superhero and Domuya Flexiperennials long ago. As for ones I still own, Sartoria J's female 1/3 body was the worst out of the box.

    25. I only have two bodies rn, Dikadoll 1/4 body and Dollpamm Skinny line.

Dikadoll's body is very cute but not very poseable? Maybe it needs a restringing, but the arms can't touch my doll's face. The resin is so smooth, it's a regular MSD body with short legs so most pants are too long!

Dollpamm's body is great poseability wise, the engineering is very good. The shape of the body is very different than other dolls, I personally like it.
The only problem is mine came with very big seamlines. The doll is in light skin too. It's quite expensive for a YOSD ($350) so I am a bit annoyed. But overall I love it, very sturdy for such a small body too.

      • x 1
    26. My double jointed msd resinsoul girl is my best poser! She hold her poses tight and i think she could stay standing in a wind storm! And if you spend a few minutes to wire or suede her shes like a gift from above haha. The worst posing doll i have is a doll chateau ada. I wired her and sueded her which was a nightmare, and i put hotglue on the bottom of her little feet to try to give her friction.... nope. Nothing works. Her body makes me want to cry lol.

      • x 1
    27. I have the full size Vigor from Granado and it's a champ poser. He stands without a doll stand and can hold himself up in a crouching position.

    28. Thanks for all the input you guys! It's definitely something I'll keep in mind as I hope to grow my collection. Nothing would irk me more than to find out I really loathe a body, after spending all that cash on it. Hopefully this thread can help some other folks make decisions too.

      • x 1
    29. Best: Newer Luts Senior Delf body. The first doll I could get to stand on her own without too much coaxing. Granted, I did get her secondhand and string her myself, but still. My one quibble was the combination of large-ish breasts and visible rib indentations. It seems unlikely that you’d have enough body fat for the first and still get the second.

Worst: ResinSoul mini-sized body from 2011. Terrible posing and weird proportions. Felt very plastic-y. I understand you get what you pay for, but a reasonably functioning doll doesn’t seem too much to ask. Way too thin for the head, I thought, and the doll wasn’t stylized enough otherwise to carry it off. She did have gorgeous hands, though.

    30. I handle only two bjds, and for the worst I nominated Iplehouse EID super hero. Only good point in that body, that it's stand for days without any stands, but everything else is dissapointing. Can't hold any pose, can't sit without help... But my second is a Universe Doll 70cm body, witch is work like a dream. So far the winner in my crew, but it can change. I am now waiting on a Dream Valley boy hybrid, and very curious about that body.

    31. I am only interested in realistic dolls especially in 70cm for male dolls. LLT is my top favorite doll company of artist Julia Cross. Julia’s doll bodies are very realistic with beautiful anatomical and detailed depiction. Soom Idealian and Iplehouse also have good-looking bodies, but they do not have good pose-ability. My favorite of Iplehouse male bodies is HID, but it is huge and heavy! FID muscle body is a scaled-down version of HID so it is also charming, but it’s hard to find clothes and shoes in FID size.

    32. I have mainly SD and am furiously searching for my Twigking Eloy a body. Poor thing has been through several, lol!

Best: 1. Loongsoul ver 2 72cm. Hand down, no competition. I started with a Fierce beast Taou Wou. He can hold a crouch, a crouch! This body is, just, woah. The paws on the beast versions help as well, but the locks on the shoulders and the peanuts in the elbows are amazing! The knees are fantastic as well! I loved him SO much, i got a Thunderbull second-hand AND endured the almost year wait for a Beast Baize. I think I've only ever sueded the hips.

      2. Ringdoll v2 70 cm. Still one of my favorites. Like a rock, my Warren has stood for years. Poor Warren gave his body to Eloy until I can decide.. I only dislike how skinny the legs are. They are gangly dudes. I really was excited for the V3, SO beautifully muscular, SO beauifully sculpted, but the knees on the 3 are not as good as the 2, they seem to buckle much more easily.

Worst: Dollshe mystic. Wtf.... just wtf.... it's gorgeous, but can only sit and slouch. He can't stand, AT ALL. My poor Kylo, the Supreme Leader, needs a freaking chair every day! The channels in the body are apparently not drilled straight, allowing the legs to just buckle like a wet noodle.

Every dang Iplehouse I've ever had, HID, SID, YID. Ok, my YID Erica is sliiiiiiightly better than the others. I sold the SID female body, but. Falcon is gorgeous, as with all Iple, but i can't even.....

    33. My favourite bodies are Dream Valley, Doll Chateau, and Fairyland bodies.

I think my least favourite is a Mirodoll body I had that was just so terrible to pose.

      • x 2
    34. I really like the dust of dolls bodies. They can be a bit of a challenge to pose at times but they’re
so expressive. My least favourite body unfortunately is that of my LillyCat Millie. They’re really pretty but a pain to pose. I can never get her to stand on her own

      • x 2
    35. Best? Even though it has a definite "learning curve" attached, thanks to the extra joints... I have to say my Delores' DC A-03 body wins there. Once you have it figured out, it's a very graceful, very flexible bit of engineering.

Worst? Put me down as another vote for Iple's older EIDs. Bricks pose better than those guys. <_< Which is sad, because the sculpting is absolutely gorgeous. They're the poster children for what happens when you go all-in on Form to the exclusion of Function.

      • x 1
    36. I think the better bodies are Volks SDgr girl body, or FairyLand body. They can do a lot of poses, and it's beautiful too. The only disadvantage is the price...

    37. Of the dolls I've had, the best poser is my doll leaves msd girl body. The body doesn't look like much without clothing (a little skinny with not a lot of detail), but its steady as a rock, and a graceful poser. My worst is probably the Myou SD girl doll body. She can't really do much.

    38. Best posing: kid delf romance ver. from Luts, they could hold any pose, they’re double joints are beautiful
The most beautiful and stetic body: is from single joint Supia Doll, all the detail of the back and the soft curves, it’s perfect to model any kind of clothes

Worst: doll leaves yosd body, the leg joints couldn’t hold any pose, to sat her down was a nightmare >_<

    39. Worst I've had so far was probably my first BJD, a Resinsoul Mei purchased in 2011. Restrung her multiple times and nothing helped.

Second-worst is, and this pains me to say...my beloved Lillycat Chibbi Lana. I ADORE the aesthetics of this doll, but she lives in a sitting pose because getting her to hold anything else is almost impossible. That's without wiring or sueding, though, so there may yet be hope.

Best was my MYou Bettina (mature 27cm). I wouldn't have expected it from a company often considered a "budget option," but she was a great poser straight out of the box.

    40. The very best doll body I have ever handled remains the Fairyland Littlefee. Not an adult, no, but the posing and range of motion is just amazing.

If I were to do this by size category, then for MSD size, Minifee hips can be a little fiddly but by and large, I am again giving a fairyland doll the star of best poser approval and sheer humanistic motion.

As SDs and up go... Hard to say.
My Mirodoll 60cm guy needed a lot of modding before he became a great poser, so I'd give him the Worst Poser award. My other Worst Poser is probably my Dollstown 18 hybrid man, who is so heavy he can't stand even when his joints oughta let him.

Oh wait No- the very worst posers are the Iplehouse EIDs, original 2010 bodies. They couldn't sit upright. Or do more than move their shoulder and head joints. Even my Mirodoll guy could do more before his mods.

The best posers might actually be my Soom SuperGem old body guys. They stand like rocks, their jointed hands are gorgeous, and their torso joint and hip joint let them stand in naturalistic poses like contraposto. Right with them is my Granado original 64cm body. Granado poses great.

    41. Best body I've handled is my Volks SDM Momo. She can pose in any way you want, hold that pose, can stand on carpet (!), and even has a cool system for taking off hands/feet. 100% happy with it.

Worst body I've handled is probably my Bobobie Elfkin, Johnny. I've restrung him, fiddled with him, threatened him but he just cannot pose well. It's not his fault... mostly. He's old and I'm not good at restringing yet. Still, I had a similar problem with a brand new Resinsoul doll (Bobobie's sister company).

    42. The best bodies I have are from LUTS and LoongSoul. I have a luts gsdf, which is a 75 size, and he poses really well! I guess it's because of their design? (the upper and lower body parts seem to be strung separately). LoongSoul 73 has very beautiful muscles and can also pose very well.
The worst I have is from Little Monica. I have a harmony girl body and I don't appreciate their muscle design very much, I also find the elbow design a bit weird, and they don't have the double joint for the knees......I guess it's the same with their male bodies. But anyway, I have to restring the body and put copper wires in to improve.

    43. I guess I'll echo some previous themes in worst bodies. The worst I've handled is definitely the Mirodoll 60cm woman. It's just very poorly made all around and that includes the posing. It is poor both in range and stability. At least the translucent blue color I got it for is nice in person. Iplehouse nYID and nSID woman bodies are also very poor at posing, although at least more stable in basic poses than the Mirodoll. The popularity here is clearly the aesthetic (which is great) and not the engineering.

I'm going to differ on the comments on the Granado Vigor body though which I have in 40ish cm size. I consider it the doll I am most disappointed with out of any I own. That doesn't mean it's the worst, but I expected based on the preview photos a very good posing doll. What I got was a doll that was very good at holding the few poses in the preview shots and not much else. It just seems very stiff and limited. If you're looking for stability and not versatility then I would agree it's a good body.

The best posing doll I have is the Bimong Narae 40cm limited edition? I forget the full name but it was something along those lines. It is very flexible in the poses that it can take. It does have a tendency to want to curl at the series of torso joints but otherwise once wired up it's quite fun in the poses it can do.

      Cat Dance

Note that I wire and suede almost all dolls as really none give me the freedom and stability I desire with just stringing. Sadly there's pretty much no way to wire the ankle joint on bjds which pretty much always ends up the final limiting point in dynamic standing poses.

    44. There are not many different companies represented in my collection, so I don't have experience with many different bodies. But, as I've mentioned before in other discussions, my 5 Star Doll dolls have very good bodies in my humble opinion. They feel solid, and the joints are smooth and well fitting. They pose well. I can't remember if they stand alone because I've had them for many years, and have never had them standing alone due to living in earthquake country.
I also like the resin of the dolls I have from 5 Star.

The body in my collection which I consider to be a problem is my MSD Steven from Doll Leaves. He can't sit without ontorting his torso in an awkward position. If I try to have him sit normally, he can only lean far backwards and will slide down into a reclining position. Other than that issue, he is ok.

I have a couple of Minifees, and I really don't like the way their legs will flip around and go all wonky. I hate that cap at the top of their thigh, and it is always turning backwards and making their legs become skewed. Also, arms on my boy minifees with the action line body don't fit next to the sides of their body. No matter how I try to arrange their arms, they stick out awkwardly at the sides.

    45. Out of the dolls I own:
      Best poser:
Doll Leaves Teenage Dream body (male, old version). He has this great balance bteween smooth joints that you just sort of shape the way you want them and they stay there, and a slight lock in his knees helping him to stand, but without forcing his knees into set poses. I never sueded or did anything to help him and he just works. The sculpting is nice, but basic, so that is probably his main minus.
MaskCat 26cm line body. This girl is tiny, but she has an impressive range and holds poses well. The best part is her knees and I know this will be a bit on the nerdy side, even for a doll person, but hear me out. Her knees have a regular double joint that looks perfectly ordinary at first glance, but here is the genious: The lower part of the joint is a balanced joint, it has a very smooth range of motion making it possible to leave the leg in any position along it's way with equal resaults for a total of about a 90 degree range. The upper part of the joint is a locking joint that locks into either straight or 90 degree. Taken together this actually means that depending on what parts of the joint you activate and in what combination, you have the full range of smooth motion that you would get from a balanced double joint, but with the stability very near that of a single joint! Maybe others have done this as well, but this is the first doll I've seen it in.
Despite this, she doesn't stand very well in bare feet as her feet are disproportionally small.

      Worst poser:
Resinsoul Ming. I bought him to mod him and I knew what I was getting myself into, so no hard feelings at all. But right out of the box he had so many problems... I have since modded him quite heavily and he poses all right now, but from the start he was really something. Fun fact: this doll and the Doll Leaves mentioned before cost almost exactly the same when I bought them, both new and at about the same time. I will say though, that the resinsoul is perhaps a little better scuplted, that is a matter of preference of course but fair is fair.
Iplehouse JID both male and female. I have the older bodies with the but-flaps. These dolls are so pretty and so frustrating. Their joints don't work as intended, the ankles are so weak the dolls don't stand well on their own and the foot often slips out of position and the only way to get it back is to fist pull it out and reposition it. Their knees and elbows have the pull out joint that makes the arm or leg so much longer when avtivated that clothes no longer fit right and the are very tricky to use when the doll is dressed anyway. These dolls are pretty. Very pretty. But they are also very limited in what they can do.

Honorable mentions, neither good or bad over all:
Luts Kid Delf girl. This doll is my best stander and sitter. This girl stands like a rock. And that is exactly how she does everythig else as well; stiff and hard. She can stand for hours, she can sit up straight like no other and her elbows are sort of ok, but her shoulders snaps, her torso joint does very little and there is absolutely no inbetween poses for her legs other than sitting and standing unless you string her loosly enough to barely hold together.
The arms of my Lati Blue girl body. These have tiny little peanut joints in the elbows that looks as if they should have very little friction, and yet they smoothly takes any pose you put them in and just holds it. I have had this doll holding heavy objects just freely away from the body, leaving it like that for days and she just holds her pose. No locks, no snapping, no slow sagging. The rest of the body is admittedly basic. Single jointed legs similar to those on the KDF and a torso joint with very little forward and backward motion, but she has a little bit of rotation and that is pretty rare, so, not bad, but not exceptional either.

    46. Worst body: Mirodoll 60cm Girl (I think? whatever came with Mika in 2014)
Not a single joint on this doll fit together properly. It had no chance of standing unassisted. The ankle joints did not fit properly at all so they were a huge weak point. If I remember correctly, the socket was oval and the balls were round. I never figured out what the triangles on the side of her hips were for. The inner elbow peanut joint was too small for the outer sockets. There was just so many issues with this body. I literally gave this doll away.

      Best body: Unoa 1.0
Is this a hot take? I love the sculpting on this body. Especially the hands! The lines and proportions are perfect and not a single double joint in sight. Just the way I like it. I think Araki is an artistic genius and I would love to play with a body he's designed after 2003. I know some people like to hybrid Unoa faceplates with minifee bodies but I'll never understand it

    47. My best are my Atelier Momoni girls. I have never owned, or seen another doll that poses like they do. There are no seam lines, the resin is smooth and they move so fluidly. I also think they are pretty cute, they are mature but not overly mature, they also look young but not too young. I find them to be ageless and can go either way which I also like.

The worst I have personally had was my Doll Chateau Julianne. That doll frustrated me to not end! I loved her face and overall aesthetic but she couldn't even sit without issues. One slight move and her limbs were all over the place and she would fall over.

    48. Best

Granado Lads: Very nice in shape and poses very well. He basically came perfect straight out of the box. If you're looking for a body that doesn't look super jacked, he's a nice option.

      Dream Valley 70cm
: I love the look of these bodies. They're very slim so it depends on what your aesthetic is. I bought one specifically because I have an old Doll Chateau boy I love the look of and wanted something similar for a floating head. I will say that Dream Valley poses much better than the original 70 cm DC bodies. Those bodies have round (like ball shaped) knee joints and they are *very fussy*. I still love mine but he's not easy to work with.

Old Impl Star Body: The original Impl Star boy bodies are amazing posers. Mine is old as dirt but he can hold any pose you put him in. They changed that body to be more of a small muscle body now. I'm not sure if you can get the original. It's a really good one though.

      Best- Female body

Twigling. Hands down. They're gorgeous. They're fabulous posers.

      Worst

Crobidoll M Line (original) : Good grief. This body couldn't do anything at all. I sueded. I restrung. I eventually ended up parting ways with it. It was nice enough to look at but that was about it!

Souldoll Zenith- Male and Female: I'm sorry. They're beautiful bodies. They really are. But they are wretched posers in my opinion. The knees have the same issue the old Doll Chateau bodies have. They're round and they just make the legs slip every which way. They really can't stand. Having said that, they are really pretty to look at. I love the way Souldoll sculpts hands and feet. I also think they have great customer service. It's quite possible they've made improvements since I got the dolls I have as mine are not at all new. If not, they make gorgeous shelf babies.

    49. The best poser I have hands down is my Loongsoul 60 cm. girl body. No one else comes even close in terms of flexibility and versatility.

My BBB Elfkin and Moony are horrible. I actually chopped on my Elfkin a bit and there was a marginal improvement.

I really don't mind my BBB and Resinsoul MSDs. I've got them wired and they stand and sit well, so I'm happy. They're basic, but OK.

My old Elfdolls have arms that pose well enough, but a bad case of the noodle legs, even wired and sueded. The first stand I bought was for my Elfdoll girl (my boy will stand if he likes the outfit I put him in, go figure).

My Dollshe Pure Body boy is a reasonably good poser and will stand even if strung on the loose side.

    50. My Dream Valley MSDs and my Fairyland Littlefees and Pukifees are the best of my crew. There's very little in the way of posing I can't get them to do. And they stand like rocks.

Doll Chateau is the absolute worst as far as posing, but they're so beautiful that I just sit them on my cabinet and let them look good.

    51. I have Dream Valleys of varied shapes and sizes and they all pose wonderfully.

The worst poser of my crew is my Resinsoul Ming, even compared to my other Resinsouls (but I expected that when I ordered him, so it’s all good). He’s got Resinsoul Sui wings which don’t help his posing ability at all. Poor guy can hardly even stand. It’s a good thing he’s pretty, at least. ;)

    52. Best: Dream Valley, particularly my Dean's giraffe-taur body. His limbs are super thin, but he's solid as a rock! I can trust him to stand on just about anything, on four legs or three (sometimes even two). The sculpting is gorgeous too. I only have their MSD-scale bodies, but I would imagine the bigger ones are just as stable.

Honorable Mentions: Shout out to Luts for their S65DF and MDF bodies, both of which are great posers. They have a large range of mobility, as so long as you keep them strung tight, they'll stand solid and even hold a variety of poses.

Worst: There are too many, honestly. A lot of companies prioritize aesthetics over engineering. In my own personal experience, this includes Souldoll (the older N.L. bodies are awful posers, those joints are terrible), Soom (both the older super gem and little gem bodies are awful at standing, let alone other poses), Doll Chateau (beautiful, but can't stand and snap into the fetal position at every opportunity), Crobidoll (that R-line body is a nightmare, I got rid of mine for cheap just to see it go), and finally, Sugarble (they no longer exist, as far as I know, but their tiny bodies were a disaster).

I've owned and handled a lot of different companies, but these are the ones that stand out one way or another. Keep in mind this is all assumed without sueding or wiring, because those can turn awful posers into good ones.

    53. I think the best body I have as far as ease of posing is the Impldoll Star girl body. She stood right out of the box, the joints do not look overly bulky and fit together nicely, and she holds poses very well. A close second would be my Fairyland Feeple girl. I find it's a little more sensitive to stringing and does not hold arm poses well, but it has great range and poses nicely when well strung.

The Bobobie Luna body does not pose well at all, and I question if it should really be considered ball jointed. However, being that it was so inexpensive, I do not feel terribly bothered by it. I like that they tried something different.
While I love Dollshe, I think my old Dollshe body was among my most disappointing. No matter the stringing or sueding, it is never a great poser, and it is harder to give it the same pass as I do for some of the cheaper, seemingly experimental bodies.

Dishonorable mention to my EID girl. I don't newer EIDs are actually engineered poorly. However, EIDs are just so big that they are a constant pain to handle, imo.

    54. Of the dolls I have in my collection, the ones that give me the most problems are my Custom House Ange Ai tinies and my Momocolor girl (technically a tiny, but on the tall end of the spectrum).

The Ange Ai bodies both have mismatching leg lengths (i.e. one longer/shorter than the other) and don't pose very well. The Momocolor hip joints have these cross-shaped openings that are meant to allow for different hip/leg positions but really just get caught in weird ways.

    55. Best poser has been my Dollzone Ji-Zero and I even got her to stand with help from a stand pretty easily!

Worst would have to be my Luts Kid Delf, she was very stiff and I've found I hate single joints, she did however stand on her own like a rock which I enjoyed as I was short on stands at the time

    56. How do u wire your
Bimong? I haven’t sueded mine but bimong bodies have been my favorite by far although some smaller dolls also pose great too.

    57. Straight through both arms, U up one leg through body and down the other. Same as I did here.

    58. For me, one of the worst ones was the old Volks SD10 (solid torso). Loved the look of the body, it's nice that it doesn't have any joints in the chest for photography purposes but when I had my dolls sitting down felt that they were impaled:doh:doh:doh.
The torso felt super heavy as well. I am unsure if they changed the design for their Standard Models. I just owned old Volks dolls.

On the scale of 1/4 I want to mention the Unoa Quluts body (Alchemic Labo). It's beautiful, easy to assemble and poses very well. I am very happy with the KDF from Luts too.
