Be With You: age27 doll Discussion

Aug 27, 2013

    1. He looks awesome, vevet! :) Thank you for testing out different sizes on him- I'd like to get one of these dolls eventually, so it's a great reference to have.

I was at KBJD this past weekend and the Be With You booth was selling a lot of different tops and pants for the Age27 boys. Hopefully when Mr. YG gets over his jet lag, he'll add them to the site!

    2. chobi: Thank you! OH! Mr YG! He's awesome!!!! and I didn't knew he was selling outfits for the giants. He told me he was planning to sell them soon, maybe they're ready, I will ask him latter, I'm waiting for an order and maybe he can send me those pants in the same box. Wood 27 is a very special giant, I would LOVE to see more of those guys around. I'll be happy if you have one :)

I'm glad you like the picture! Here's another one from yesterday shooting :)

    3. Ooooooo! He's so handsome! Which faceup did you get?
Having clothes to fit these men would be wonderful!
I definitely want to get one of these boys this year.

PS - I love how his shirt fits: open! ^_____^ :nosebleed:drool

    4. aernath: Thank you, his face up is B-type. I ordered about 4 or 5 tops from M3, I just tried a short sleeve shirt and that jacket. I need to try the others but I think they will fit. I want another guy too, maybe Santa may bring me a Star doll this Xmas ^_^. LOL open shirt? LOL he's sexy and he know it...

    5. Yes! WHEN when when will Star be finally released? :atremblin I hope not too long now! He would make a perfect Christmas present!

    6. Star was at the Korean BJD Show this past weekend! And I met YG! He did a whole head-sculpting class. He made this base form to sculpt on that made it really easy for all of us to start... and put a whole kit together for each of us--tools and clay to sculpt on it! It was the most fun I've had in a LONG time!!!! I hope he will sell the kits on his site. He said he might do more classes/workshops. He's a very good teacher.

Here's the head-base with re-moveable and re-positionable teeth and removeable eyes--the clay goes on the front part of the head and you can control what kinds of lips, nose, brows, eyelids, cheeks, chins, etc.

Here he is showing one of the people at the workshop what to do--
      [IMG]14-04-KBJDShow-Sculpt_6674a by aprilllee, on Flickr

He was SO nice! He wasn't finished teaching us after 2 hours--we had to go to the Closing Banquet. He offered to come back afterwards to teach the rest! Even though he must have been very tired after being in the Seller's Room since 8:30am and that was the third day of the show!

Here is the one-off Be With You did for the Closing Banquet. I don't think he sold! :( I wish I could have got him, but I'd spent way, way too much money by the end of the show!

Sorry for my crappy photos! Star is the two on the left, one on the right is Wood--

I WISH I had bought one of these boys... They really are well engineered, and I very much respect YG as a sculptor.

Now I am thinking about it, which is why I'm looking around here. I will need a few months to recover my funds from spending at this lovely show. I wish more people could have come to it... There weren't enough of us attending, I think. It was a GREAT show--we really got to spend lots of time talking with the companies and artists. They are all small and are pretty much run by the artists...

Velvet-- Love the wig you have on your guy. Also--the pants you sewed looked perfect! (I can't sew at all.)

    7. I absolutely love Wood!

But…I thought I'd leave my 2 cents because I just came back from Korea and visited the ninenine style boutique. They have Wood there and have him displayed in their version of EID size jeans (just one style). Since they also carry the doll and manufacture their own line of clothes (stumbled into their actual workshop too)...They might be a good resource to ask about fit or future products. Who knows maybe they might be able to take a group order or something...

    8. Thank you so much for the photos! I really wish I could have gone to that! What an exciting time I bet you had!
Maybe next year. I will have to plan for it.
I think I will wait for Star. I like him just a little better. But definitely, this year. Want.

    9. wow....cool photos...thanks for posting.

    10. agree'ed way cool... freaky looking as sin but way too cool the teeth bit surprised me (especially the ... poseability(not sure that's the best word) of them a brilliant idea for sculpting

    11. aernath: I have no idea when Star may be released... but I know I have to safe money from now LOL

april: As I told you, Mr YG is a genius, You was lucky to be there!!! Thanks for share those good pictures. LOVE it.:)

mdonline03: That would be very good. I think Mr YG have very good relations with Nine9 Style (I think that is very probable that the outfits (for tinies) he's selling in his website are made in Nine9 style, just thinking).

Yesterday I tried the long sleeves shirt (EID size) from M3 and they fits well. The length of the arms are perfect.

The pants... I think that Herculean size may fit, but I'm not sure, Wood have long legs.

    12. I fear that there may not be another Korean BJD Show next year. Ms Cholong ran it this year (she's repped for a ton of bjd companies, most DollHeart), and speaks Korean and helped translate a lot. But she's leaving for a different job, so she probably won't be able to organize another big event. :...(

Also--the attendance (and therefore sales) was not great, so I fear the companies might not feel it worth the expense and time to return, even if someone was able to help organize another event. It really is very bad. Some of those workshops were more involved and more fun than the ones currently offered at Dollism Plus US. I've never encountered a doll con like this one and I've been to a number of them... There were more companies and more dolls and more one-offs and specials than I've ever encountered before... It really makes me sad not to get another chance to meet all these wonderful companies... outside of Asia, anyway!

... although it is better for my bank account. It was so impossible to resist the many dolls and eyes and heads and outfits there! *_*

DreamingDoll had a lot of Ninestyle outfits for sale at their booth. I think they must have good relations with several doll companies.

Mr. YG had some shirts and other clothes at his booth... they did look like things that Ninestyle would make. I remember seeing some plaid shirts... I wish I had looked more closely to see what he had!

I am seriously thinking of getting this guy. I think I liked Wood... but Star was very nice, too. They are very close in looks. There were differences--I think my photos are too poor to really see them. There may be some close-ups of the faces taken by others in the KBJD Show Photo Thread, though.

I was very grateful to be able to meet so many wonderful artists at the KBJD Show. Mr. YG was quiet, but friendly. The other companies usually had a very quiet person with a very out-going one, which was a good combination. The Peakswoods people were very personable! I think they will be at Dollism US. It will be great to see them again! The Crobi doll people were very sweet and friendly. Everybody enjoyed all the companies--Enchanted Doll eyes, Oscar Doll eyes, BNB doll, Migidoll... and many others!

      ---

Here is Be With You's One Off special for the Opening Banquet (it was a movie theme). The details of the outfit were amazing! And the head was a special sculpt just for this doll! I do not know who bought him, but he did get sold!

    13. Omg, April, thank you for the photos and info!

Wow. I wish I had been able to go to that show! I didn't even know about it (granted I have never been to a doll show), but gosh that sounds amazing!

The more I look at this doll, the more I like him. But I don't know if I am ready to commit to such a huge doll. However, I admire the sculpting and the engineering a lot, and if Be With You created some 60-65 cm range dolls in the future I would be all over it! They also sound like a very cool company, which sweetens the deal. :)

    14. Oh--forgot to mention... Just for standing, the basic dolls stand like the Kaiser stands can work for big dolls if you get the super-large size and the kind with a wide base. You can't do really extreme or tilted poses, but they work for just standing. I personally like the black Dollmore versions since the black looks great on darker backgrounds and doesn't show up as much against dark clothes. I used these types of stands all the time for my EID males--which are heavy! and other tall dolls. Probably would need something larger and heavier for 80-90cm, though! I don't like to keep any dolls standing, even with stands, though (I live in CA and no stand will keep a doll from toppling if there's an earthquake). Very sturdy stands like the Volks style (with settings you can screw tight), would be more secure, perhaps--but again, can't do any really crazy posing, just basic standing. And I prefer waist-stands. The saddles seem like a doll could fall out of them if you aren't careful... plus they have to fit right... and they always look bad, to me, on anything where you can see it and it's not hidden by skirts!

I know... I'm hesitant to go bigger than 70cm. I wish more companies wouldn't make such BIG dolls! Even Crobi was showing off their over 70cm boys they were going to be coming out with, at the Show! *_*

But--gotta say that these guys didn't look as big and heavy as IH EIDs... and I have two of those. The Be With You guys are about a half-head or more taller than EIDs, but they aren't as bulky... So they might not be that much of a handful. Still... not something that will go with 60-70cm boys all that well...!

My tallest buy is 75cm-- a Dollmore Glamor Model. He's so skinny that he's almost like a regular SD... but doesn't match well with them, even though, sitting down, he's not too far off in proportion. Anway... I'm wondering how he would look with a Be With You guy. I'd have brought him along to the KBJD Show to compare, but I had too much other stuff to carry... and I was trying to NOT buy dolls...!

Be with you has the tiny dolls. ;) (although they look sold out on their website... I hope they sell more, since they seemed pretty popular at the Show)

    15. My dolls are in the 58-65 cm range, so I suspect putting one of these 80 cm beauties next to them will look pretty out of scale. The Be With You faces are also much more realistic proportions than my other dolls, so it's also going to be a style mismatch. The tinies are very cute, but I'm not really a tinies collector, probably won't go smaller than msd. Still, I will hang on to the hope that Be With You will one day create a doll and/or body that would fit into my collection. Such great sculpting skill and great anatomy. It's a good balance, lean and elegant without being too thin and stringy.

    16. Be With You does seem to be just starting out... so hopefully they will add more dolls to their lines in the future. Right now, it's just the big guys with 2 head sculpts (one not yet on sale), and the tinies... But that's not too bad for a new company. Hopefully they will be able to stick around and expand!

    17. Just to add to the stand discussion- the Age27 display models I saw were all supported by wooden stands (obviously meant for smaller dolls) that gripped around one of their thighs. They're sturdy enough standing on their own, but the stands made them even more secure. At one point during the KBJD banquet I accidentally banged my knee on the table, hard enough to make the plates rattle, and the Star on display didn't even budge!

So finding a decent stand that can hold onto one of their legs might be a lot easier than searching for a huge one that can go around their waists.

    18. I haven't seen too many leg-grip stands... I'll definitely have to look into that (since I seem to be getting more big dolls, even though I'm trying NOT to!). I'd been using smaller stands and just putting them around the legs sometimes, but the fit isn't all that secure...

    19. Oh, there isn't such a thing as leg-grip stands (as far as I know), they were just stands for smaller dolls that happened to fit around the leg! Sorry, that last post wasn't worded too well.
It's crazy to think that the Age27 boys are so huge, their legs are as big around as a smaller doll's waist!

    20. I am waiting for the day a brilliant bunny MAKES a double leg-grip stand... the trick would be where/how to mount the leg posts to a base. Someone who could make one that the post placement had some minimal adjustability would be a demigod lol.

    21. Heh. No wonder that I haven't ever seen one! :) ... But the stands for smaller dolls are pretty... small/light/weak! I'm not sure I'd trust one to hold up an EID! I should have picked up a Be With You boy to see how he felt... But I suspect he's not any heavier and an Iplehouse, even though he's taller...

      ---

Some new stand designs would definitely be welcome! I like a bit of choice in stands... Particularly since dolls are in so many different sizes these days.

    22. He did it! He did it! He did it! YG put the head sculpting kit up on the Be With You site! :dance
      ... I need some money...

    23. lol and I just saved a bunch! (getting new pc AND mini laptop to replace my 'simple' tablet! I'ma have a spare 2k with the deals I got!) I can buy back a bit of my soul from Iple (meaning pay off dolls ><)... maybe turn to you to make me new dollies eh? ~_^

I truly wish I could get these giants but I think it would kill Dad (he have a heart attack -_-) I'm not sure he could live with dolls that take up space like us humans lol.

    24. Oh, but they stand so nicely and quietly in the corner and don't take up much room! :)
All my big boys are standing room only, but they're just fine leaning against the wall. And I looove walking into the room and patting one on the head without having to bend over. I'm so jazzed about the big boys companies are making these days!

    25. would you believe there are no corners or open wall space in my house? (not counting uninhabited hallways O_o) I get my new guy ... boxes in middle of floor til I find a home for em lol... it's sad how much 'stuff' we have and so much is large furniture... And at least until IH's new series is done ... they own me ><. I'm negotiating a split on the 3 doll of 3. Bought the first doll, will have to wait for the 2nd (buy later) but got all his goodies.. now on to #3 omg I'm hopeless with them lol... I don't dare get hooked an an new company ... yet p

    26. The new Crobidoll G-line is 78cm, I will keep an eye on their clothes and shoes when they get available. They may be similar size.

    27. Ooooo! Nice! They make nice clothes. ^__^

Here's the measures of the similar tall dolls.
The only measures I see very different is the arms, I'm not sure if that's correct, my Wood is using a EID shirt and fits perfect with the arm length, the measures of the websites have a 9 cm difference... that's weird.
I will verify that latter and update this chart is the measure is different.

EDIT: I measured the arm of Wood age27 and is 23 cm not 31 cm (the website is wrong)

    29. Thank you for the measurement chart, vevet! That is very useful.

I wonder if some Dollmore Glamour Model clothes might fit? I think they are very skinny, but some styles may work.

I just saw that one of the Be With You Dolls One-Offs is for sale on the KBJD Show website (ship from the US)--

Expensive, but he's a one-off... and no worries about finding something for him to wear! I love the Korean traditional outfit.

YG created a whole new head-sculpt for his Pirates of the Caribbean One-Off... I wonder if this head is unique, too? Or is it Wood? Or a new head sculpt that's coming up? (I'm afraid I'm terrible at head identification, so I have no clue!!! --though, of course the Jack Sparrow head was definitely different!)

    30. I couldn't quite tell, and it doesn't say anywhere that I could find.
I wish I could afford him! But I can't even afford a blank boy right now. :(
I tell myself I'm waiting for the release of Star, but really, I'd love to have both Wood AND Star!

And thanks for making that announcement in the news! It led me to the site and the petition! I really really hope they do that convention again! *weep*

    31. Hey guys!

I'm thinking about buying Wood sometime in this year or the next and I'm trying to compile a list of clothes that he could wear! I was having some trouble finding pants and found a site that sells Be with you dolls (and you can do layaway!). I emailed them asking if they knew if they had any clothes that would fit him specifically and they replied and I believe they are selling pants for him privately (Perhaps they have their own tailors?) and you can just email them if you want to buy the pants : )! I was so thrilled when I got the email because my boy has a very basic fashion style and pants where giving me trouble xD! I can attach pictures if people want?

    32. Yes, and the link to the site too, please? ^_^

    33. Link to the site: http://dolkus.com/index.php

      The email reply:
"Here we send some pictures of clothes for Age27 76cm doll with attached
      file.
Please remind that you can place order for these clothes only by email
because they are not on DOLK site.

Thank you again for your interest!"

There you go! I hope this is alright lol

    34. Ah so! The roommate and I stumbled across Vevet's box opening of her Seven when he first arrived, and earlier in the week the roommate placed his own order through DollPeddler (we tried using the DollBe website but it wouldn't work for us! ;A; ) for one of their in-stock boys! He should be here sometime early this week and we're so excited! *__* The heaviest we own is his SOOM MegaGem, and the tallest are his 71cm DoD DOI & Dollzone boys. We're kind of wondering what he'll wear but we're sure we can throw something together xD Even if it's just a towel around the waist =P

I'm eager to see what number we have, since I haven't really seen anyone talking about getting one.

    35. Yay! I saw someone got the A faceup boy from there, I was so hoping it was someone here that would post pictures! ^___^

    36. We'd be happy to share photos of him when he arrives :3 B faceup was really pretty, but A suited what the roommate wanted for a character better so~

    37. Oh, cool! Great to see one of these guys coming home to someone here! Please do post pics!!!

I'm still tempted by one of these guys... but I caved in over at Crobi and got one of their big 78cm guys (even though I told myself I would absolutely NOT get a larger large doll!!!!).

I think one of these guys wouldn't be any more heavy than a MegaGem. Megas aren't tall, but they are super-thick and muscle-y, which makes them heavy and a bit less easy to handle. I got the impression (from seeing people play about with them at the KBJD Show) that these guys were really well-balanced and easy to handle, even though they are fairly tall and fairly well-built.

    38. I'm still holding out for the release of Star. ^__^

    39. It's been a few days but my roommate's Wood arrived today! <3

Excited to see that he came with boxers (yay!) which was a nice surprise (and keeps him from being naked for the next month while our usual clothing maker is in Germany.) His resin is a bit...strange but nothing bad. It's just extra toothy and then randomly smooth in places you wouldn't think of having had a seam be. Easily fixed either by some light sanding all over or just wear of daily life.

    40. Ooooooh! Lovely to see him! Feel free to spam any time!

Yes, I'm hoping komoyochan's post above with the clothes, stays forever. I need to save up for some clothes AND Star.

    41. i've always wondered how practical wood would be for sculpting a BJD! i love the idea! i like how he's so nicely proportioned! thanks for sharing this!

    42. I have a question...did everyone's Wood come with a certificate?

I ask because a girl on my local ebay is trying to sell Wood's head, since she wanted to keep the body. The listing has been sitting there forever and she finally decided to drastically reduce the price. I thought it was a good idea to snag it. So I go and bid on it. But then I asked her if I could have a photocopy of the certificate after I bidded. She told me there was no certificate and the body only came with a booklet. She couldn't give me the booklet (which I didn't really want anyways) but could only photocopy the pages pertaining to the head. It seemed a little strange to me, so I went and checked up vevet's box opening and lo-and-behold there is a certificate as well as a booklet. The certificate came in an envelope.

So I ask her about this and her next message came back really rude. She said the listing didn't include the certificate so she didn't have to give me jack, not even as much as a photocopy. And if I suspect her, she can cancel my bid. She said since I bidded, I should agreed to her terms. And I should read the fine print more closely.

I would have...except it was in Chinese...

Well...I guess she can afford to be rude since there was someone before me that wanted the head. I wouldn't have bid on it at all if I had known coz I don't like fighting over stuff...and it gives too much power to the seller.

EDIT: Whatever the outcome. I sent a treacle laden post and I told her I was sorry for asking what I believe was a decent question. And since it caused her SO MUCH HASSLE to provide a certificate, she can cancel my bid. I bet she'll want to delete that listing fast so people don't see her as a rude seller.

I actually bought a head from her before so I'm really surprised at her unprofessional attitude.
I guess I have trouble expressing myself well in Chinese so I probably sounded really rude to her as well.
But yeah...I never really liked buying second hand and I was only interested because she said she never played with it, same for the other head.

This just cements my attitude about buying in second-hand markets. NO GO ZONE.

    43. yuan_mdx: Hello Yuan ^_^, The booklet/manual is the certificate. The last page of the booklet have a signature of Mr YG and the serial number of the doll (Wood is a limited to 70, mine was 7 and that's why I call him "Seven") there's a golden metallic stamp too with the DollsBe logo in that page.

I think there's no any problem the seller send you a photocopy or proof of that last page. Maybe she/he was thinking you want the entire booklet. :o

    44. ah~thank you for clarifying that bit for me. So I guess the girl is legit after all coz that's what she explained in Chinese and I didn't really understand what she was getting at. I was so sure the certificate came in that sealed envelope. Just out of curiosity, if you don't mind me asking vevet, what WAS that envelope with YG's wax seal logo??

    45. yuan_mdx: The booklet/certificate, was inside of that envelope. ;) By the way, I have another DollsBe doll (Paprika) and the envelope do not have the wax seal, just a cute nice sticker. Maybe Age27 have that because they are limited or maybe the wax seal is too much problem to make to our busy good Mr YG :XD:

    46. I wanted to say I love what all of you have done with your dolls so far! They're so pretty and the default faceups YG does are by far the best I've ever seen. I'm currently saving up for him (I have a savings fund split between him and a body for another doll).

Took the nice camera out to get a little better photos of the roommate's Wood (his name is Wyatt.)

The eye mechanism in the back of the head is interesting. For sure we're going to look for brighter eyes (the ones he came with were super pretty, but a little dark) though since it's the first eye-thing either of us have ever dealt with, we're not totally sure were to look. (Brighter acrylics with a stem? Glass eyes with long stems?)

And his feet... well, the ball joint (or at least the joint, since it's not very ball shaped) reminds us both of the Iplehouse feet. That is to say; very particular with the position you have them angled. With 76cm of big, hunky resin it's a bit more problematic than 45cm of resin that the two JIDs in the house have but I think if he gets ankle supporting shoes, he'll stand a bit better. Lord knows it works on my Dreamingdoll Hue who's ankle joints are fused to the leg.

    48. What do you mean by 'Sculpt: Wood'? You don't mean he's made of wood?

    49. The sculpt name is 'Wood', but he's very much made of resin. They're making another one named 'Starr' though he hasn't been released yet. Currently Wood is the only Age27 sculpt available from the company.

    50. bandit1971: Is good to see another Wood here. Yes, I had some little problems with his ankles too, he's tall and heavy and the smooth silicone pads in his ankles makes him unstable to stand up. He works better with some boots, I removed the silicone part of the ankles and he's now more steady, a LOT more. ;)

    51. I'll talk to the roommate about whether or not he wants to remove the silicone xD But I think getting him boots (or maybe high top sneakers?) might be more in his favor. I LOVE the faveup on your Seven. If I ever personally get my own I'm probably going for option B. It's just so pretty.

    52. bandit1971-- Wyatt is a cutie. Like the wig, too. Which faceup is he? I thought I'd like B best, but his looks good, too! :)

    53. He's got faceup A ^^ And thanks about the wig xD It's temporary until the roomie finds one he likes better but we unfortunately don't own a lot of spare 9" wigs ah.

    54. bandit1971: Sure! that was my first option too, and using a high shoes helps a lot! but I'm so afraid that my giant falls that I takes extra care of that; by the way, the silicone parts can be installed again with no problem no glue needed. Face up A is so good, is a soft look that I like a lot, I have to admit that I was not sure of choosing one of the 3 option because all 3 are good, at the end I tried to change to C but the face up was already done and I saw the pictures and I was super happy with the B option. If I get a Star, he may look Asian like C type.

    55. Ah that's something to keep in mind then for sure, if they go back in easily. I have plans of restringing the big guy this week since his legs uh, dangle a little bit (reminds me of the wear SOOM's with heavy fantasy parts get.) so I'll figure out what all the roomie wants me to do. (Maybe a bit of sanding? The strangely rough resin is...odd in its consistency. Is Seven like that?)

    56. bandit1971: Yes. The resin is a bit rough to the touch in some parts.

    57. I saw Wood at the Austin BJD convention, he is beautiful and I want him even more now. I am at my limit right now and unless I sell a doll or two he won't be coming home with me. I can't stand not having time with each doll and having to many means just that.
So - I love you Wood - maybe someday!

    58. Ah, was Wood at the Doll Peddler table?

I wish I could have gone to the BJDC this year, but I've got conventions just before and just after that I have to be at, so I just couldn't do it... :(

    59. this boy is BEAUTIFUL!!! i think it's the one i saw pictures before where they have an eye mechanism similar to pullip where the eyes can look left, right, up and down together so you don't have to remove the eyes to change them, just move the post/thing with the wig off...
