Nov 12, 2006

    1. Wow, what a body sculpt! I love the puprle color, wonderful Drow!

    2. Yay! I love to see drow dolls done in that perfect shade of grey! So awesome!!

    3. Waaa he's smashing! I love the colors especially, well done!!!!

    4. Kate: I did start on one, but I never finished him! Maybe sometime after I move I'll have time to work on him!

lady_rosen_red: thank you for the hug~~ you are so sweet! I hope the stuff I showed you helps!

glyndon: How much is that dark elf in the window? *wuffwuff* XD I'm glad you like him!

Idoru: I have an addiction to pretty boys, I can't help it. X3

      Keladry: thank you sweetheart~~

      ravendolls: Thank you!!! :whee:

taarna: thank you~ that means a lot to me! :aheartbea

      Lithe-Fider: THank you!! :D

kitsuneudon: thank you!! I should have your boy done in a week or so! hopefully he'll be there to play with soon! Just remember to remove any faceups you do with the W&N brush cleaner and not acetone. For some reason the acetone does melt my resin!

soshi: Thank you! The color turned out just the way I wanted!

Tonboko: thank you! Depending on who you talk to drow and dark elves are different colors ranging from blue to jet black... but I've always been partial to this sort of grey-purple. X3

      lolipop: thank you sweetie~~ :D

Okay! The auction is up, you can get to it in my for sale thread: http://denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1691298#post1691298

    5. Awesome! I won't be moving until near the end of next month, so I can definitely give you a shipping address that's accurate. :D

W&N Brush cleaner? Will any turpentine product work? I have a bottle of Turpenoid, which should probably work fine. (I hope?)

      Things are crazy-busy around here these days, it's amazing how much work it is trying to wrap up a life when you're getting geared up to move away for good. Too many people to catch up with and visit. I can only imagine what you're going through, at least I'm just moving the next major city over. ^^;

    6. Love your drow!

    7. I envy you XD your dolls are gorgeous! they look like alive :o
Even if Zero is a dark elf his eyes are somehow kind ^^ and his nose is so sexy *^^* hehe, i like the purple skin, wonder how it looks in a very tann brown skin <3
By the way i fell for Vasha head a lot *_____________*

    8. Wow! He's truely impressive. I love his whole look- the faceup, the tattoos, the outfit... The wig most of all.

I have kind of a weird question (Sorry if you've answered it already, just point me to the post)- How hard is it to work with the dyed resin? I know that you mention the various "birthmarks" (I like that name) that occur on the doll... I've heard that adding dyes shortens the working time with the resin and that it can be difficult to mix the dye in uniformly. Have you had to scrap any dyed pieces, or have they all come out in a useable state?

    9. kitsuneudon: I haven't tried turpinoid actually... hmm... If you remind me I can throw in some scrap casts and you can try it?

      Chrystika: thank you, dear~ :D

Runy: thank you! I just misdyed some resin, so you may see him with some mocha colored skin shortly. XD

Shashan: Working with the dyed resin is tricky... I followed lollypop's advice and dyed my whole gallon a single color. That seems to work best, but you MUST dye the whole doll that day. As the resin settles a little it seems to either darken or lighten, depending on the dye used. My flesh got lighter but my grey got darker!

The dye DOES drastically change work time. I had to switch to 30 min set resin because it goes to a gel state really quickly. it still takes 30 min to cure completely, but it goes to a gel state in about 8-10 minutes. I usually pour one large piece and then fill several small pieces if there is resin left over(i'm not great at being exact), and sometimes I can't fill those small pieces if it took too long to pour the first big part because the resin is already gelled and will no longer drain into the pour holes.

With birthmarks, I get them from time to time on my light and normal skin dolls, but not too often. With them they just sometimes get a random color like a blue or pink smudge somewhere. But my dolls from different companies have that too, Ghaleon, my shiwoo elf, has a brown mark on his wrist that's been there since I bought him three years ago from cp. He also has a blue mark on his butt. XD

The darker the resin the more likely I am to get birthmarks in both lighter or darker colors. When I did a dark custom tan for someone I had to cast the dang torso three times before it didn't end up with huge marks all over his tummy. While I don't think his new owner would have minded, I try to make my dolls as nice as I can get them! XD

    10. O.O He's... So.... Pretty!!!!!!!! *cries* I hate being poor. Blarg. Oh well.

    11. He's gorgeous!! You work has inspired me to start my own, or at least try too ^^;;

    12. Hey bats, about the dye settling after a day, you need to shake up the drum before you pour the doll and then let it settle (get rid of bubbles), but that should stabilise the colour. I was told to agitate the tinted drum once per day because the pigment settles and separates a little.

Also, if you use a set of digital scales to measure out your resin, you can weigh all the parts you've already cast to figure out how much you need for each part, or for however many parts you want to pour at once. Just remember to mix a little extra just in case (for pour-gates etc).

Seeing your boys come to life makes me wish I had a head for the twigLimbs body so I could cast in whatever colour I wanted... oh well ~ the new doll I have been working on will be more ooak colours etc. If I can ever get my orders cast so I can work on her again.

    13. Thank you so much for answering my questions! The info and tips are very helpful. :3

And wow, that really does shorten the time XD *scurries off to look at resin*

    19. Wow, I just finished going through the entire thread. The zombie is sooo creepy and beautiful, I mean he's awesome! And the drow is just woah cool! Heh, not many words because I'm just still..woah LOL :D

    20. Meeee Wannnnt Drowwww *bursts into tears and faints thu lack of money*

If he had purple eyes he could be Drizzt (see avatar) *sniffle*

    21. O, this is just fabulous! I love the sculpting on the body...

    22. WOW just WOW

    23. gorgeous! i love the face and torso sculpt. I was just wondering how you string up your dolls when they're made from sculpey. I tried to string mine up but if i do it too tight the parts break (the balls on the feet or the hands) and if it's too loose the doll doesn't stand :(

    24. For my sculpey dolls, I don't string them tight. I use smaller string and I string them very loosely and gently. Even with loose stringing you can tell wether or not they will pose well after casting. I cast all my dolls, I don't leave them as super sculpey originals... I just don't like them that way because they're too delicate to play with or take out with me when they're like that... and i want to play with them!

Thanks to everyone who has replied to this thread! I'm so glad that you liked the dolls. I very much enjoyed making him and every person who enjoys them also just means so very very much to me. I am no longer making the full boy dolls, they are just too big for me. If you want info on the heads alone, please see this thread: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192635

      thanks again everyone! :3

    25. Now I'm curious... Batchix, do you have records of about how many of the larger boys you made?

I just got a blue-grey Zero secondhand and he's wonderful! Thanks for making these incredible dolls.

      ~perley

    26. there are only two blue-grey Zeros. :3 Did you get it from tinybear or from manaswam? I'm glad he's found a good home and you enjoy him!

    27. He's the one who used to live with tinybear.

I was really wondering about overall numbers, though - if you wouldn't mind sharing!

      Thanks...

      ~perley

    28. Of full dolls there are two purple-grey drow, one jet black, and one normal skin zero.

Of Vasha there is one normal skin and paper white.

Of Timmian there is one white, one grey, and one tan.

There are several heads that are rolling around too, but I'd have to dig through my files to tell you how many of those there are. :3

    29. Wow, so I've got the only normal skin zero? *luvs* I can't help it if he's hawt! <3 I tell you what, though.. he looks even better with that Bastian head. :D

    30. oh i see! thanks. haha i plan to cast my doll in resin now just that i have to find enough silicone to make my mold >< *wishes he had enough money to buy a BJD*

    31. your work just so amazing!! The body is hot!!!

    32. I wish..I could sculpt half as good as you do. I've lurked around some of your threads for a bit and wow!...I hope when I start sculpting, it'll be a quarter as good as you..T.T
