batchix's dolls~ Dark Elf pics pg 12!

Nov 12, 2006

    1. O: OH MAN! I love him too! Eee

    2. Vasha is really nice!

    3. Vasha's quite pretty. I love his mouth. I personally would be tempted to take a sandpaper to his nose, but that's only because a lot of the guy doll sculpts have sharp noses and I'm curious to see what he'd look like with a different one.

By the way batchix, I picked up the box of heads this morning - haven't gotten them open yet but wanted you to know I didn't space on them again! Thanks for your patience and being so sweet about the mailing issue :)

    4. :o They have great style and charism! :abow: And I love the way you do make ups! :o

    5. Glyndon: thank you! :3

Cyri: thank you! That seems to be everyone's favorite feature hands down! XD

Gali_miau: thank you! i'm so glad his lips turned out so well. It was certainly a point of frustration in timmian's head. :S

      Idoru: ehhee~ thanks!

      Chrystika: thank you!

bunnydots: I'm glad the heads are there finally! I hope you like them! :D

Pocket: Thank you! It was hard to decide how to do his, he looks very different to me without a wig. XD

    6. your site dont open..........WOWWWWWWWWWWW, I SEE HE IN CLOTCHES NOW!!!!!! oh god, i will have one of this, you make mold of he?????

    7. [IMG]

I took and cast a copy of the body in plaster and started adding stuff to him. :3 He's quite a bit thicker and beefier than the original... but for Zero, the head shown, i wanted a more human body since he's a warrior.

Please keep in mind that this is a rough sculpt on the body. At the moment I'm not really asking for critique on him! :sweat Hope to have him done in another week now that he's completely dry!

THEN! We shall have DROW! Yes, Zero is a dark elf... see them ears? I plan on doing two with ooak outfits each... well actually there will be three because I'm keeping one. :P

And this is the vampire girl ooak I'm working on... she's sort of an experiment to see if ooak handbuilt dolls are viable for me. In the past I felt that it would take way way too long for me to finish... but with the paper clay it's a lot faster. She's not intended to be played with, just displayed... she'll be wearing a corset, which is why her boobs are pushed up strangely.

her legs are a bit long... her torso WAS longer but shrank when it dried... and the leg length is for the original torso length. this should be interesting!

anyway~ i'm going away for the long weekend to st louis to see my parents... hope you allhave a good weekend! :D

    8. Nice to see a selection of bodies emerging!!

    9. Your zombie boy is so awesome!! X33 Yay for garage style casting, that's totally me too. He has very interesting elbow joints. I hope your new sculpts go all right, I love your girl as well. :D

    10. Wow, either way it looks like a TON of work! Good job!

    11. Oooh, I adore Zero's face! The eyes really suit him too, especially with the gray supersculpey skin. Absolutely beautiful, keep up the good work!

    12. Man, your work speed is amazing. I wish I lived near you so I could get some tips on how to sculpt. I've been itching to try it myself, but unfortunately I'm more of the visual sort as opposed to following tutorials online... :(

    13. Good lord girl a new one already!??? Looking really good. I love how the girl body is coming along!

    14. Loving the girl body Batchix!

Must count my penies to get the zombie body soon!

    15. Can't wait to see that girl completed. :)

    16. You're so quick to make new sculpts! I'm totally impressed! I really love Zero's nose. And the new body! I like that you're offering a range of sizes. :3 I like the skinnier one too but I'm glad to see that if ever a face matched but the body wouldn't, I could go thicker.

    17. Do you think you'll cast Zero in black resin at all? He's perfect for a character I've been wanting to make, but I want him to be a really dark drow, either black or very dark gray. I really love his face so far. Oh, wait, also, how tall is he?

    18. bunnydots Thank you! :D

Kiyakotari Thanks! I was worried about how they'd look without the corset on!

Lithe-Fider hehehe! thank you! If I do it myself, I don't feel as bad when I screw up. X3

oliveowl It is, but it's really really worth it. :3

kitsuneudon thank you! I really like the orange, but I'm so attached to these eyes! XD

blackpaperbag I totally understand... if i hadn't had a sculpture course I wouldn't even know how to begin!

lolipop Well the new body is built over a rough plaster of the old one, so it's more just adding on and fixing somethings I wasn't happy with. The girl is new from scratch tho. :3

AnnTagonist I'm going to be moving in July, so if you want one contact me before the end of june! I'm not sure if i'll still be making the zombie body after I move, it depends on how well everything holds up. :3

Greeneyedtigerlilly Me too! I'm excited about working on her!

Idoru Well, I've been working on Zero's head off and on for about two months... The heads take me longer because they're usually from scratch. The bodies I've just used rough plasters of the originals to re-sculpt on top of. :3

sand3 He will be cast in dark blue-grey or dark purple-grey, but not black. The more dye you add to resin the more viscous it becomes and the faster it sets up. The more viscous it is the less likely it is to give up bubbles when you cast, so you end up with a lot of tiny pin holes. :{ An example of how fast it sets up when you add more dye is that with the grey dye I made here: http://www.g36.net/darkcastledolls/images/mar07_18.jpg The resin I was using had a 15 minute work time before it started to set up and got to a gel state. When I was casting the thighs of this doll, the resin reached a gel state almost the moment I filled the top of the mold. :S So I don't know if I could get a jet black. I don't know if I will even do as dark a grey as the grey timmian shown because of how many problems I had with bubbles. :/ To answer your other question he comes in at about 65cm tall. :3

Well, I've got the body pretty smooth, but it's not ready to be primed yet. :3 Hopefully in the next couple of days I can!

thanks again for all the comments and kind words! I really appreciate it. :aheartbea :aheartbea

    19. Actually, I was thinking along the lines of using black resin. Most companies sell resin in four base colors, regular, white, clear and black. I was planning to experiment with some once I get a body finished. This would make a truely pitch-black doll though, which may not be all that desirable, depending on what you want, you would have to face-up dark-to-light rather than the usual reverse, in this case.

    20. I didn't know they made that! I'll take a look at smooth-on, as far as i have ever seen they only had white or amber colored resin. It's certainly something to think about for the future. :3 at the moment I need to use what I have here tho! X3

    21. You know, that explains why they make the dark-skinned dolls LE... I never got it before, but... Now I do! O:

    22. handsome boy!! or must i to say MAN!!??
and so beautiful the girl´s body!!! i love curly girls!!

    23. Yeah, I know Alumilite makes black resin. Hard to justify buying resin when there's only one outcome as far as color goes. I like the clear simply because it's easier to achieve dark pigments without having to fight a pre-existing white pigment.

    24. I love Zero's face! Also the new body looks great, even if it's a rough sculpt. ;)

so here's the finished ready to be cast body! I widened the shoulders by about a half inch total, so he's a bit more broad than he was. I cannot WAIT to mold him! Which I will be doing here in a few minutes. just wanted to update you all on how he and zero are doing! thanks for looking!

Idoru: Yeah, it's a huge pain in the butt! I don't use a vacuum chamber so the pin holes are really bad in the darker resin. :/

aroa678: It's a ma-an, baby~ XD I am very pleased with the new sculpt now! Hopefully I can get the little vampire girl to the same level. I'm starting on her head this week!

kitsuneudon: Well if I'm going to make a limited run I don't mind, I just don't have the money for it right now since I've got so much here already! X3 The black has a pot life of 3 minutes or 10 minutes and with the size of my molds I don't know if I could cast a part that quickly, especially in the case of the body. If you're interested in one in black tho, let me know. It'd be pretty expensive since the gallon of it is $155. :S

Illves: thank you! I'm very pleased with how he turned out... there were some times there that I wasn't sure at all! XD

    26. I was thrown by the price thing at first because what you listed didn't seem like an unreasonable price to me, then I went to Smooth-On's web page and noticed that the standard resins were along the lines of $72 and I'd been paying more than $100. Then I figured out the discrepency, Smooth-On sells their resin in one gallon batches, and Alumilite sells in two gallon (one gallon of part a and one gallon of part b), and so Alumilite actually does have a better price. Alumilite sells black resin at $114 for two gallons. Two gallons is a lot to work with though, so if you're not doing a large batch, I can see as you wouldn't want to get this much. And now I'm looking at the web page and it lists the black resin as being 'Regular with black dye added'... huh... I think I will be doing more research into this...

    27. *fans self* Oh my gosh, he's GORGEOUS! I'm not interested in a black resin, just commenting for sand3's sake, but I do think I'm going to be kicking myself if I don't order one of him in your more 'normal' colors. How much would you be selling him for, just as a basic unpainted and unsanded doll? (I need my practice with finishing, since I have yet to actually complete my first dollsculpt. ^^;)

    28. the smoothcast is a gallon of A and a gallon of B, but I don't know if the black comes the same way. Either way $155 is what I pay for silicone, and that's always a big dent in my pocket. :S but that's why I stayed with smooth on... that and I have all the dyes for it already and that's like $50. :S

I sell the dolls for $570 with a pair of glass eyes, fur wig, and a face-up. :3 If you wanted him completely plain, no eyes and no wig I could offer him to you for like $530? I don't sand them, but there's a lot of internal cleaning that needs to be done in order for him to work(cleaning off sprues and drilling holes). I will be moving mid-july, so let me know soon! I don't know how long I'll be taking a break after moving to get settled in.. and I don't know where we're moving yet, we just know we're going to california( either bay area or LA, we should know soonish. o_o;;).

    29. That would be awesome. PMing you now. :)

    30. He's just great Batchix!

    31. Squeeee! *__*

    32. How tall is this new guy going to be? And will you be selling bodies separately?

Much as I liked Timmian, he was just a tad too skinny for me, because I was looking for a body for a particular character who is skinny but not quite zombie-skinny.

      I've got my fingers crossed looking at your new one, because he looks like a reaaally good body match so far for who I have in mind :eusa_pray I need someone slim and toned, but tall. It's practically impossible to find. Hound and Model bodies are too buff in the upper body, UniReal and Senior Delfs are too buff overall. All the others are too small and make my MiniMee look bobbleheaded ;_;

    33. Reminds me of edward sissorhands. I really do love the detail work done on him, especially the hands. The skinny-ness freaks me out XD But, I think it's supposed too. So good job on a stunning doll!

    34. I love the way hes turning out, he looks incredible all over but i really LOVE the upper body especially the collarbone/neck area. just beautiful!

Its also cool just seeing your general workspace, I like the "guy reference sheet" in the background, i do the same thing when i sculpt ;-)

    35. Re the person who said Hounds are too buff in the upper body, to me this new body looks buffer than a Hound, but maybe I'll change my mind after I see a cast?
Batchix - Are those new upper arms or are you using the arms you made for Vasha?
I hope when you get the new body all cast you'll put up a comparison picture of all your bodies. I have a hard time telling the difference otherwise.

    36. Haha, that was me. I find that Hounds are kind of skinny but they have a really wide upper torso joint (broad shoulders I guess?) in comparison to the mid-section... this one looks more streamlined.

    37. kitsuneudon: YAY! :D

blackpaperbag -How tall is this new guy going to be? And will you be selling bodies separately?

He's about 65cm, same as the other. He has the same legs, just a different torso. :3 I always offer bodies seperately, but I don't think I'll be able to take anymore orders before I move in july. :{ THANKFULLY I do know where I am going in california now, I'll either be in Redondo Beach or in San Jose, I'll know for sure at the end of the week. X3 So casting should start up again in late august at the earliest.

Black_Cheshire: He seems so much more buff to me now, but I guess he's still a bit on the slender side! XD glad you like him~~ I actually would love to do the Crow or Dream with the new body now that it's finished... but Edward Scissorhands would be fun too. I wonder if anyone is getting a Johnny Depp Minime? XD

Donn: thanks! Your support is always greatly appreciated, I get really inspired by your work. :3 I will, hopefully, get to see one of your boys in person soon since I'll be going to visit Susan in KC sometime before I leave for the summer! My reference sheet is fun, it's filled with models, actors and a few of my husband. XD

bunnydots: Yeah those are the new arms that came with Vasha. :3 Your doll was the last to get the old style arms since the molds were destroyed in an accident. When they were destroyed I had already started filling in the old arms to make the new ones so there was no way to recast the originals... I've learned my lesson and I didn't build the new body onto the original body, it's a completely different rough cast and build up. :3 I'll try to get some comparisons up when I finish all the casts I'm working on right now!

blackpaperbag: He is definately more filled out than hound in the lower portion, but like you say I think it's Hound's broad shoulders that make him look the way he does- but it also depends on if it's a V1 hound or a V2 hound. If you like I can take a picture of the two beside each other. I have a V2 hound here. I have a Hound, CP boy, and DZ 70cm. My other two boys are on my own cast body. :3

I should have more pictures up later! till then here's the first rough cast of zero! Please excuse his pock marks, those are from the flotsom left in the mold after it's made(fuzz, paint, excess mold release). I went ahead and painted him though because I am very very pleased with how he turned out! Now I just need to finish molding his head cap. XD

    38. I really like him.

It would be great if you moved to Redondo because then we might get to see you at one of the LA meets and have a chance to see these guys in person. Good luck to your husband, either way.

    39. Wow! I loved how harsh and strong he looked in gray, but in fleshtone he's so soft and pinchable! Really beautiful work, girl! What size eyes does he take?

And Congratulations on narrowing down the specifics of the move! It's good to know where and when you're going, and that you'll have a good job that'll mean you can stay. (I'll be praying for your hubby to get that job, it sounds marvelous) Good luck!!

    40. OK, this guy totally looks like Vasha's brother who lifts weights at the gym while Vasha is sitting around reading books.

    41. 65 cm might be a bit small... >_< Comparison photos would be lovely, though! Thanks!

      p.s. Zero's looking real good

hopefully Nath'urra and his master, Antal'myr the Mage, will be up for grabs in the next few weeks. :3

he's a zero head, obviously, as will be Antal'myr.

    43. Wow his dark face looks so beautiful with red eyes and white hair. Really amazing work and interesting look. I love!

    44. Wow Batchix! Your dark elf is just VA VA VOOM! <3333 Gorgeous! His colour is amazing <333
      And that body, yuuum.

    45. Woahhhhhh he looks seriously great!!! I love how you put him together, the whole look sort of reminds me of an undead rockstar like Lestat in Queen of the Damned, but even more hardcore. I love it :D

*ponders* I wonder if I might be able to use it for another one of my floating heads instead, I just really like this body loads and want to own one X3 Of course, he looks amazing with his head too, but I told myself I absolutely can't get anymore characters *must not!!* I have no more space for them all >.> Would you be releasing one in a Volks NS sort of resin tone?

Sorry for always bombarding you with questions DX

    46. WOW!!! He is AMAZING! I absolutely love the pelvic tattoos, they suit him quite well. The scars are a nice touch and OH those eyes! They just pierce right into you. Fantastic as always!!!

    47. Although he's not to my personal taste, I think you did a marvellous job of executing that concept. Is that a purple or a gray resin? It looks purply on my screen, but could be the computer playing tricks.

    48. GORGEOUS!!!!!!
I love his resin color! :whee:

    49. Looks like the same tone as the Bambicrony Light Slate Gray elves... in other words, purple

    50. chibichibiusa: Thank you! I went with the way drow always look in my head... which is to say with purple skin. XD

AnnTagonist: Thanks! I'm happy with the color he turned out, I was honestly worried. Each one is going to be a slightly different color since I'll be using different batches of resin.

blackpaperbag: Just keep me updated if you're interested. :3 I'm booked for casting till I move, and I should start back up in late August. All the dolls and bodies are available in natural skin or beauty white for order.

Greeneyedtigerlilly: Thanks! The scars and tattoos were sort of an afterthought... but i really like how they turned out. I may wipe them before I sell him and redo the scars with a raised material... I'm not sure.

Bunnydots: Yup, he's a big purple drow! He's about the color of grape bubblegum. XD

blackpaperbag:he's secure in his purple-ness! XD

    51. If you ever make guys in mature-mini size count me in! I've been totally fascinated with your dolls for quite some time - I love the faces, the elbows, the bodies...everything, but I'm pretty set in my size preference.

      I just LOVE Nath'urra...

    52. O,O I so can't wait to meet you! Umm... can I hug you... ;)

Love your gorgeous drow! And the zombie... glanced back at the other pages.

    53. Each time you bring forth a new head, I love him more than the last. Zero is just too perfect. He makes my heart feel squeezed.

And your drow one off, he makes my eyes misty. That second pic calls, "buy me, please," with more eliquence than any window-bound puppy.

    54. DX Stop making them so pretty! I want one and I can't afford to actually purchase one! P: Mm. But I can admire.

    55. For the sake of my sanity and wallet, I'll try to firmly tell myself that I didn't see Zero and thus cannot want him.

      ...doesn't work.

      He's really, truly gorgeous, batchix.

    56. Oh hey Batsy, this boy is just darling!!!!
      Brilliant work!!!
Maximum Respect in the 'hood, girl!
      :-D

      Raven

    57. The dolls are beautiful, and I love the fact that they stand
out in an industry where bjd companies are starting to
clone each others creations.Your style is beautiful
      and original.

    58. I LOVE that dark purple! :D Awesome stuff!!

    59. I'm not a great lover of purple, but your drow definitely looks good in it. :) He'd look hot in any dark shade, really. *pants* :drool

I'm all rashy right now thanks to lingering fumes in the house from stupidly storing resin containers in my office, which means I can't touch my dolly to work on him until the hives dissapear, but I'm super hyped about being able to play with your zero head & new bodysculpt! *Squee!!* I just bought a crapload of pastels to play with faceups, even though I know I'm going to still have to wait a little while before I can play. Your pics really inspire me, and I just love what you're doing with your dolls. *fangirls* :D
