I wonder why there are no naga dolls out there yet. There are so many other fantasy based dolls available, I was surprised when I couldn't find any nagas on my research for my doll <.<;

I bought an anatomical kit for a skeleton at a toy store that is almost exactly 43 cm tall -- for $10! He is articulated, but I can't fit him into any MSD clothing for a Day of the Dead picture shoot. But he makes a great prop!

After looking at the anatomical model at your link, I'm enthusiastic about your idea. But I would take it even further -- have optional mechanical and electronic replacement parts, so you could build a custom sexy cyborg!

Gentaro Araki (designer of Unoas, etc) is considered a bit twisted, to say the least. In one book of his works (sorry, I don't have it with me and can't remember its name) there is a two-page picture of a garage kit of a torn-apart drop-dead beautiful cyborg lying in the snow with guts trailing out and machine parts showing. It was a beautiful, horrible, tragic, masterpiece that only a mad genius like Araki could have created.

But I think we are converging on a great doll design -- even if there are only about three people on DoA who would buy one!

True enough, but what if you could get two of them and then they could go on adventures together! Think of the sweet stuff they could find (and sell) and all the Imperial baddies they could usurp!

Also, nathankatt, that is perfect. I would totally buy one. I used to love it when my toys turned into something else, like Transformers or those babydolls that have clothes that you dissolve to get their 'adoption papers'. SO cool!

How about this: A basilisktaur. Upper body SD sized boy or girl, with two sets of arms, the lowerbody the long lizard like basilisk. Four pairs of legs extend from the body, two front and two back pairs. A long tail ending in a barb. The creature's head is reptilian, with slitted eyes. Wicked claws cap each hand and foot.

I vaguely recall an action-figure from my very early childhood that gradually morphed into an oozing, foul-smelling jellyfish, but it didn't have strings so I guess it doesn't qualify to enter the contest...

Aescwyn, I love it! ...Especially little "Kicky" & the “OMG! WHY WON’T YOU STAND?!” faceplate ... which I'm sure could double as or have other options including an “OMG! WHY ...?!” with options include "won't you pose (blank) way"; "does the angle on (blank) eye not look quite right", "does that bleeping hair on (blank) wig keep sitting at a weird angle".... and various other expressions of dolly frustration.

I just had an idea the other day about casting a doll in clear or transparent tinted resin. I'm picturing blends of transparent blue and green tints with sort of finned edges on the arms, legs, and ears for a water elemental and reds and yellows for a fire elemental. If you did a slight amount of airbrush work you could also get the effect of the features floating on the surface. Also picturing a completely clear "crystal" doll and a clear red "ruby" doll. You'd have to use clear elastic and hot glue to hold in the eyes, but it would still be see through for the most part I think, and if you facet the inside bits somewhat you could get it to almost look like it was carved out of gemstone. If you added animal parts like tails and hooves and horns as well you could do something really cool with it, and wouldn't necessarily need to build new molds.

 

The doll(s) sounds really beautiful. but how would you hide the strings?

 

Cool idea but the only issue is reasonable density translucent elastic... usually you have the translucent beading elastic which is very narrow mono-filament elastic or the tape variety thats used for lingerie and stay-up stockings for example. It would need to be specifically extruded in the right density for doll stringing...not impossible, just an expensive exercise.
As for the faceted inner parts, this reminds me of the work of one of the girls I studies at CoFA with who was drilling into cast clear translucent resin with fine tipped dental drill bits. She would then our coloured translucent resin into the cavities formed and the result was amazing.
So, not impossible...

 

Not weird, persay, but something a little different.

An Ent. Not like the LeekeWorld Ent, but a true ent. Entire body carved with the texture of bark, long distended proportions of the neck and arms. A tangle of roots for feet. Instead of a wig, a nest of branches. Branches growing from shoulders and hips. A knot at the navel.

Is it an ent? Or a nymph in disguise? The bark can be removed like exquisitely delicate puzzle pieces to reveal an ephemeral human-like creature of strange proportion and beauty. All or some of the bark can be removed for unique hybrid looks!

How about a 'skin' for your doll like a laptop or iphone skin? Made out of silicone and covers the body so the joints don't show, but still has perfect movement! Can come in ANY color and with optional glitter! Only one thing, some of the anatomy would be, well, giggly.......

I was thinking of making a rope from the jewelry elastic. I know someone that does braided rope for rock climbing and a bet she'd be willing to teach me if I ever get around to actually making the doll. I also need to do some research on resins. I've worked with the clear resin quite a bit for steampunk jewelry, but not sure how well itd hold up on a doll-scale project. Mabye I'd just have to have a really thick heavy doll to make it work.

 

Snerk....HAHAHAHAH ROFLMAO but wouldn't it be made all the more realistic because of that?

 

I doubt this would be considered weird enough...however...for a beginning...I would like a fully interactive Elven bjd. One that talks to you, one that evolves with you. 70cm girl. she will be a metamorph, able to change her hair, eyes, and skin colour with each changing season. Her eyes, she will be able to see at great distances in full detail. Her hearing so acute she can hear the heartbeat of a grasshopper 200km away. Telepathic, and master of telekinesis, She will be a 'jill of all trades' and master of them all. Master of disguise, and an excellent artist. A great warrior, just, fair, Long lived to 1000 Earth years at least. She will also have her own ship for space travel and you both get to go on fantastic voyages, and meet other races of beings.

 

All of these are so awesome! I especially love The Demon Geriatric and Jane Doe the dolly collector.

 

Since 95% of these dolls would be off-topic, I might as well throw in my holy grail, Hikaru the battle angel from Angelic Layer. Robots have almost advanced to point where these Angels that Clamp imagined will be possible. The real challenge is creating the Angelic Layer fighting arena itself. Scaling down a robot doesn't scale down the laws of physics, unfortunately. I have some ideas of how to do it, so if there is a fan of Angelic Layer with more money than sense, please raise your hand!

 

I am going to go with cyborg/robotic anthro's. Cat or dog or fox or anything, but its all robot joints and cogs and various awesomeness.

Like steampunk meets sci-fi meets transformers meets furries.

While its not as imaginative as some of the dolls discussed here, I would really love an undead/tortured souls inspired doll.
It could come with a mask so that on the surface (while clothe and with a mask on) it looked like a regular doll, but remove a long sleeve shirt, or gloves, to see, emaciated, or skeletal (asymmetric ie. one of each, or both?) and revealed ribs.

the mask would be very much like the venetian face masks, very pretty and swirly, but beneath, the face would be without a jaw, and one socket partially exposed.

the whole doll would also be a lot thinner/ emaciated with protruding or poignant rib sections, and overly accentuated joints (elbows / knees)

I've done a rather rushed sketch, nothing like the quality seen so far... but you get the idea (and thats meant to be hair... after it was scanned its very zombie-brain like... entirely un-intentional XD)
