ATStudio Dolls

@cabanaeclipse Going back through the FB page, it does in fact appear to be ATStudio's facebook page, or at least a page dedicated to them. You can go back and see posts about the controversy over the head.

 

They are the same but two people work together. Cap.Hook is the sculptor and mweoh makes the wigs and stuff I believe. I think the names ATStudio and ATSdoll are interchangeable. At least that's what I heard. Orion is beautiful. I'm glad you have him. I ordered Cetus through mweoh just recently but I did have interactions with Cap.Hook about Cetus a few months ago.

Anyone know an easier way to contact them? They don't really respond much on ig at all and never on facebook. I've emailed them too but nothing.

The start was kinda because SOOM themselves failed to identify their dolls when Chinese owners put the pictures together. That was kinda funny. Then people found out that the 'designer' of ATStudio brought dozens of SOOM dolls before, and sold them on his account. Kinda fishy because he sold and brought quite a lot of them. He also made mistakes like he couldn't name the type of the clay that he claimed to make his doll with, and one of the bodies he 'made' was a 3D model that can be found online....lol
These incidents along with others, it's not hard to understand why people are boycotting him lol

Sounds weird but a lot of doll owners impulsively splurge then sell. I do it all of the time. Do you have a link to the 3D model that can be found online as well as the post about the clay?

I tried to make weibo but I don't think it's works for my country. (US) I tried the website and the app. It keeps saying that I sent too many code requests when I only sent one.

@Seki Unless things have changed Weibo should work even if you're in the US. I'm in the US and have had a Weibo account for a few years.

Unfortunately, I have not seen the post about clay and cannot find it.

On top of the Soom buying and reselling, Hook also bought and sold an Illusion Garden Unicorn Yuli before releasing Cetus. It's believed that Cetus' horn is copied from Illusion Garden.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks like one of those free models you can get online? I feel like I've seen it before. Even if AT Studio used the model to work off of that's generally their intended purpose so I don't see the problem with them using it, if indeed they did.

I don't think there's anything wrong with working off a free model, but I do find issue with them passing it off as their own original work.

For the horn, it's suspected that they did the same as what they did with the heads: 3D scanned and then modified it. So just as their heads are not identical to Soom's, the horn is not identical to Illusion Garden's.

 

For the sake of argument lets just say that AT did indeed use that model as a base. Going off of those pictures they still did quite a bit of modification work. I would personally consider that "original" in so much as it's a new work, even if it was derived from a pre-existing work. Like someone couldn't turn around and say it's OK for them to us AT's work without their permission because it's still AT's work even if they used a base model.

That argument for the horns just sounds like people grasping at straws to me. So, I'm to believe that AT 3D scanned the horn into some rendering software, just to then completely change the look and the shapes on the horn. Sure anything is possible, but that seems like way more work then just modifying a pre-existing cone shape that a lot of 3D software give you for free if you're going to go that route anyway.

A lot of people are boycotting him including some face-up artists. As you can see quite a lot of people are discussing this in the comments. I hope more people can see the whole story so they can have a better understanding of this problem.

I looked through everything and none of this really proves anything? It’s just a bunch of photos of dolls that I can see have vast differences with tiny similarities here and there. They all look different and none of the photos align perfectly. It’s very easy for your dolls to look similar to a doll company that you admire and took inspiration from. That’s what I think is happening here. I don’t think he recasted or copied them but what I think is he took inspiration.

I don’t know why he purchased and sold a bunch of dolls. A lot of doll collectors do that. Maybe it could’ve helped him with his inspiration by seeing the dolls in person. That doesn’t mean he blatantly copied them or traced over them or whatever. We don’t know what he did behind his closed doors and just because the dolls have some similarities, I don’t think it’s fair to defame his brand unless there’s solid proof or some kind of confession that he made.

I’m not sure what the clay is supposed to mean. I don’t think that really matters to be honest. How does him using whichever clay he claims a problem? He used what he used.

I don’t know what a “normal” doll production is but bumps and hiccups can show up anywhere. Nothing is perfect. It just seems like people are looking far and wide and really reaching for defamation crumbs because of course they take the side of a larger and most loved company over a small artist.

As far as I can see, if they’re not carbon copies, clones, recasts and they look completely different of a sculpt altogether then it’s original. I can clearly see that his sculpts are not SOOM sculpts, so.

People can boycott all they want, that’s up to them. People can be sheep-like, so it’s not surprising. I’d rather not be a sheep in the herd but rather have my own thoughts and opinions like I do with everything else.

So unless someone comes up with some actual solid proof and not some pictures that are seriously reaching or he confesses then I believe he just took inspiration and did his own thing. Same with the body 3D model. Although if he did use it and it’s free for all type of thing, there’s no problem. Especially if he made extremely heavy changes.

I just received Cetus but his fingers are broken...oml. I hope they can replace his hand and does anyone else have trouble posing this newer body? He sits kind of wonky and seems to need a lot of sueding and sanding. I think he might end up being a hybrid.

 

@Seki I found his body posed well. He held his arms out like a champ. Very solid so far, imo. But, I don't have mine in any special positions.

And I hope they replace his hand quickly!!! So sad to hear he arrived damaged.

 

For me, he doesn't pose as well as my DFA75 body. I love the way his arms pose though but I think that's about it. I don't fancy the way he sits. I hope they replace his hand as well but I doubt they'll get back to me soon. Someone is interested in buying his body even with the damages, so I'll probably just sell it and get him a DFA body.

 

My human Cetus is also home.

 

I managed to snag a Captain Hook head! Whoohoo! He'll have to share a body for a bit. Sooo stoked. His eyes are going to take a while as the order went in end of May.

Having difficulty ordering Auriga. I asked for installments. Was billed for entire amount. Explained how I wanted to pay. The invoice was cancelled. I’ve been waiting for 2 days for a new invoice. Nothing. Is this typical? I have two days before the preorder expires. I’m having lots of doubts…

Also I asked about the production period but there was no response to this. Is this all the language barrier? What is the typical period to shipping?

 

It did take them over 2weeks for them to get back to me when I placed my order through email, and another 3 days to send me an invoice after I confirmed my paypal addy.

On their page it lists: *Orders over $600 can be paid in installments. 40% deposit can be divided into 3 Month.
Maybe they won't let any order go on longer than 3 months.

The production period on their weibo says it'll take 4 ~ 6 months depending on weather and delays.

 

@Suindo Thank you! 4-6 months seems reasonable. I sent a stroppy email and got an immediate PayPal invoice for 40%. I will pay 30% in December and January. I knew they wanted full payment over 3 months.
How are the ankles holding up? A friend got her doll with a chipped ankle.

 

@Mahgiep Oh no, good thing I only ordered some heads this time around.
I did not order a body as I have bodies waiting for Auriga to use--- but thats really unfortunate about the chipped ankle.

I have Auriga and A. Centauri heads on order and both through New Clover Singing. Never had issues with them when it comes to orders. But these boys seem to take awhile...

No, they don't reply fast at all. They take a million years to reply. Sometimes they ignore your messages.

 

I really love ATStudio dollS. I presently have the heads of Baker, Elf Baker, Punk Orion, Cetus, Elf Cetus and I am currently waiting for an Auriga head (and the fish hands of my Elf Cetus that they forgot to put in my previous box). My 70cm body from them is gorgeous and poses really well. I can also can confirm that their dealer Mweoh is very slow to answer emails, but they still always answered me. Some of the messages that they sent me in the past also didn't make sense. I suspect they are using a translation app to respond and that the delay may be due to the language barrier.

Yes Auriga is so gorgeous. I wanted him since the first pictures of him appeared on insta several months ago. I am planet_cosmos on insta. Some of my Atstudio boys are still not finished though, but I am working on them slowly.

 

I want to ask you something . Can you understand what skin has these pictures of Auriga ? It’s wheat skin or normal ? Also wheat skin is the same as light tan skin ??? I am so confused

When I bought Auriga pre-order (haven't received yet) from New Clover Singing Doll Base, they told me the default photos were with wheat skin, so that was what I ordered. Your first photo is wheat skin, I recognize the photo. The second, I am not sure.

 

I was also told that the first photo was wheat and that’s what I ordered from mewoh in November.

 

I am in love with both of the pictures so I do not know which one to get . hope both of them are tan skin so I will not have any problem . I am just in love with him . He will be my first bjd boy .

@Foteini1506 I assume most clothes for 70cm dolls will fit. I hope! Sorry I don’t know faceup artists in China but Duc Mon in Vietnam does nice ones. I mostly do my own.

 

I asked Christina to check on my Auriga order from October (wheat skin, 70cm body, with makeup) and she said the latest estimate was March or April. I am eagerly awaiting him.

I've never seen their tan yet but when I get mine, I will let you know if he matches any of the Sartoriaj tans (the only tans I have.)
