@NineOneThree I'd definitely say you're good at photography! Those candid animal shots are pretty impressive (to me, a non-photographer), not to mention cute
This is about nine years old and on my old Flickr (can’t remember the password). I sometimes just mess around with photos I’ve taken to see what I can get and in this instance I got a couple of interesting versions, one was more black and white with red touches and the other is this purple version. I mainly just play about with effects and colour, haven’t a clue how to do much more than that. I added the faint glowing shape at the end but didn’t give it form. I leave that to whoever views it. It can be what or whoever you want it to be. The original photo was taken in woodlands near my home. Moonwood by Red_Bloduewedd, on Flickr
That’s beautiful @lutke, beautiful with a touch of sadness. I don’t know if that was intended but it’s the impression I got from their expression.
Some art I made recently for artfight! Spoiler: Spoilered only because the images are large! Spoiler: Art 2 (looks better on darkmode screen)
@lutke I see what you mean but they’re gorgeous and just the kind of thing I love! Those faces have so much character. Another old one that I’ll probably never finish as I abandoned it so long ago and have done little in the way of digital art since. Nature's Guard work in progress by Red_Bloduewedd, on Flickr This next digital art painting had a lot to do with my losing heart with that medium. It caused a lot of controversy in a LOTR forum I used to frequent as they refused to post it in the fan art section (they didn’t post photo manipulations and were very funny about digital art in general), over 20 hours I put into it and they claimed it was a photo manipulation, I argued with them and had to prove I’d actually drawn it from scratch. I did so by doing a pencil drawing of the same photo (see page 16 of this thread) and by showing them all of the individual layers but it really soured things for years! It also caused similar problems on Deviant Art, they made it hard for me to defend myself so I closed my account. Digital art was in its infancy back then and a lot of people had a hard time with portraits, especially of famous people or movie characters. So often it was claimed you’d just run a photo through some filters and then pretended you drew it. Now digital art is the norm, how things have changed!! Too late for me though as the damage is done. HaldirTTT by Red_Bloduewedd, on Flickr
@Blodeuwedd these are great! Portraiture always mesmerizes me, I can't get a likeness to save my life I had in mind to have Mina as a sitter to practice portraits but I haven't touched the easel in forever. My thing was always comics and that kind of eerie fantasy stuff. I always preferred traditional just because it's more pleasant to work with. I really dislike the tactile feeling of using a tablet (mine is an old screenless Wacom), it feels so plasticky nothing beats a pencil in my book.
@Blodeuwedd I remember similar controversies in the pixel art community back in the day: people accusing artists of putting photos or illustrations through a "pixelize" filter. Sorry to hear you got caught up in that!
Oh wow, it’s so beautiful! How about either long Caracal Lynx type ears held low and pointing back or, following the line you’ve already started, wiry hair like texture that sweeps in an arc to form almost like a low crest which drapes over the ‘hair’ that grows upward from the nape. Sort of a cross between a grey heron and a hamerkop. Haven’t used my Wacom tablet for years, it’s screenless too, Wacom Bamboo I think it is. Didn’t particularly like that model as much as the basic old early Wacoms….bit temperamental. I suppose with touchscreens and pens there’s not so much call for separate drawing pads.
@Blodeuwedd I get what you mean! I was thinking of something that sweeps upward like that. Edit for an update - I won't spam the whole thing Spoiler
This is your occasional reminder to make sure you take the best photos of your art work that you can. I'm in the middle of doing that, and not to say it's been long over due but some of the images I've been using of some pieces might be older than some board members. For example the top image is the one I've been sharing forever where the bottom one was taken yesterday and actually looks more like the piece. I just never got around to taking a new one from a combination of having the original stored away and a bit of laziness as I've had several quality cameras between then and now. The same piece in the 300 dpi scan done around 1999 and photographed in 2024 with an iPhone Pro 13. – @effigistkim on Tumblr
I haven't stopped by in a while so here are my last three same but different square ish portraits. I have a little space, light, and quiet again which really really helps get things going. Link Link Link
@AlisonVonderland wow your art is beautiful! I especially love the background in the third one and the patterns in the first one May I ask what size these are?
I am having fun doing PS manipulation of my photos. Before 384 by SteamWitch, on Flickr After oil009a by SteamWitch, on Flickr
I barely show my work on-line because I hardly have any time to make personal digital art anymore lol I currently work as a full-time Graphic Designer and a Visual Development Artist. I paint in Adobe Photoshop CC. ^^; Here are some of the works I've made during 2023-2024: I originally made my DoA profile picture when I was a 14 year old edgy teen back in 2018 and I haven't changed it since, probably because of nostalgia. I should redo it someday, hahaha. The second portrait was done this month (22 yo). Here's an 7-year-old art progression pic Spoiler: 2nd Portrait Progress Here's a WIP of the second portrait progress. Some WIPs that still need to be finished: And an old portrait I did in 2023:
I always love seeing the art in this thread, so much overflowing creativity here! I'm gonna post some of my favorite pieces from this year so far! A random cheeky little girl My cat Siggy A golden/bastard eel mermaid A pinky Promise in a forget-me-not blue Frog! Trapped in a mirror It's the year of the snake Got to paint a doggo for a friend to gift to her friends (the only piece so far done traditionally) My first proper animation done in Procreate Got commissioned by a friend to draw their doll, which was loads of fun! Done for a challenge with the theme of "opposites attract". I didn't place, but I still am proud of how this turned out! Finally drew my comfort OC for the first time in 6 years... With owning him as a doll I have less need to draw him...
I'm starting pencil layouts for a little comic about Leona. Trying to make it visible because I sketch so light.
I'm an anime/manga artist and currently working on my own manga, a BL story that's on page 75 now This is a cover idea and a few random pages:
I just scribble and chip chop and squish together—mostly simply enjoying the process of mixed media/traditional illustration etc. Spoiler: a couple more
Those are wonderful @Kattunge the mixed media textures and colors and composition of the first one is really inspiring to me.
Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun with that one, working with paper in that way was very satisfying too.
