Artists of All Kinds! Show your Work!

Oct 14, 2015

    1. Are you an artist? If so, show us what you do, whether it's drawing, painting, sculpting, or something else!

I personally am a face up artist and I draw with pencil, dip pens, and digital mostly. Now a days due to time constraints I usually just do pencil drawings.

I'll start us off with some work:

      Some spooky skelekittens.

These were not my pencils, I just did the inking with brush and dip pens.

      A rainbow kitty!

      Now show us YOUR work!

    4. Thank you so much ><. I only share my stuff with a small group of friends so it makes me a little nervous that the whole forum is going to see them (unless brigadoon closes in a few hours). Your art is lovely as well, and you have such a cute drawing style! You're lucky you can draw traditionally, it's something I can never do. I've gotten so used to my computer that picking up a pencil isn't a function in my brain anymore LOL.

    5. I do mostly chibis and like to focus more on character design but I have been trying do more full bodies.

I also like to do clay monster, snails are not done by me but others are :)

    6. sadi-chan, your monsters are so cute! Are they all clay?

My sister and I are freelance artists, and a lot of our art is behind a paywall, but recently my sister and I got a job illustrating a Macbeth-From-the-Witches-Point-of-View miniseries we're super proud of! Having never done a physical comic before, this has been a learning experience, to say the least ^^

    7. @kickingshoes thanks :) I used ladoll on most of them and fimo on the purple (left) and the two dark blue ones. Ladoll is way more fun to use.

Love your comic pages, I really need to get my hand on this comic. It's so nice you both in arts :)

    8. Wow @kickingshoes ! I'm in love with your style and I hope your comic sells well :)
@mionnaise As a JR & sekaiichi hatsukoi fan myself I absolutely adore your fanart! Don't be embarassed, it looks great! I especially like your way of colouring, how it fades into lighter/darker colours with a blur effect ^^

I just got a new computer so I have like, 5 scans from my sketchbook and 1 digital WIP...don't laugh u.u
excuse the ugly and the huge pictures, I have yet to find out how to resize them...

I haven't been drawing a lot of comic style lately but I'm trying to get back into it.... I'm looking forward to seeing lots and lots of art

    9. this is Lexi, a character I made for my illustration class
      [IMG]

and this is Jesse, who was originally going to be my first SD sized doll but then I got a different character XD
      [IMG]

and last but not least this is morgan who was my first BJD although her character has changed multiple times since then lol

    10. Ok so I would like to consider photography an art (let me know if I'm not posting in the right place) but I really love to get creative and try new things.
For example freelensing is a new technique I learned that I enjoy doing :) It's been you separate the lens from the camera to break the plane of view to give it an interesting effect. I also enjoy editing in a "film look" type of way
[IMG]FreeLensing by Emie M, on Flickr

Here I'm just getting creative with Maddox's portrait
[IMG]Maddox by Emie M, on Flickr

And as of recently I've really taken an interest in Macro photography. Mostly because we don't seem to truly appreciate the tinier side of life and I want to try and show off how amazing little creatures are.
[IMG]Small World by Emie McGee, on Flickr

And to show some actually drawing art, has anyone heard of the app Paper 53? Sometimes I'll use it when studying for Animal Science classes and this was for my anatomy class and I'm actually really happy with how it turned out! I'm hoping to get into using it more for art but I'm taking it a step at a time

    11. Holy cow guys! *U* I'm in love with your art! @fantasteic love the flow of your lines, seriously! @kickingshoes lovely work here as well!! I hope this comic sells well too ;v; I'd be definitely interested in reading it! @sadi-chan all those clay critters are adorable!! @mionnaise ...uwu playing at my heartstrings with the fanart... Love how smooth and soft your art looks~ And @IzabethS *-* your inking is fantastic!

Myself... well. I'm primarily a traditional artist but all I ever seem to post online is randomness in regards to that... So, have some recent digital paintings I did for practice... There's a lot more where those came from but I wouldn't want to spam you all... :P

    18. I draw mostly digital art, although I do a lot of the pencils traditionally. I have a webcomic, and I also work on stand-alone illustrations when I have the time between comic pages. I've posted a few examples here, but you can see more over at my art-only Tumblr.

    19. Wow! There's a lot of really great work here :D I wish I drew more often, but I always talk myself out of drawing my own characters and I have never really been one for drawing fanart OTL

I am mainly a digital artist, although I really want to get into doing ink washes again.

    20. Illustration has long been my very first art love ;u; I love designing characters and then developing them the most, so naturally all of my BJDs so far have been modeled after my own characters ehe. So here are some of my doll characters in their original drawn forms ♥♥♥
      [IMG]
Kiran!! ♥♥ Made into doll form as a Soom Coquina!

Another with Kiran because I like this one a lot... //// and because Kiran is the special favorite The other character belongs to my friend! He doesn't exist in doll form.

Left is Rani (shelled into Soom Breccia), and on the right is Evelyn (also known as just Lyn - shelled into Soom Cuprit) :>

Yama! She's who my future Withdoll Margery is going to become *u*

One more. All of the previous characters, plus Ruyah (bottom left - she's become a Spiritdoll Lavender) and Deirdre (top left). Yama's design here is also a bit dated but oh well.... Only Deirdre I have no specific doll planned for because she needs to be giant (75 cm ideally... lol) and muscular!! But no one makes girl dolls that are anything remotely like that. :/ I've considered a DT18 boy MtF mod but I still wouldn't have a clue what to use for a head, sobs. (prays hard for that beautiful IOS girl body in the works...)

Also @IzabethS, I love your little skelekittens! I have a character who also has a skull head and I'm sure he'd be quite an entertainment to them will all the shiny baubles he wears. (not my art because I've only roughly sketched him out and this is much more accurate).

and also this one because he's really not spooky and is just a silly birb.

    23. I'm lovin' everyone's work! I was messing around, creating a character several years ago - then Soom made a doll very similar to him! My guy was named Eric. known as White Rabbit. Soom's guy is White Rabbit. (yeah, I bought him)
anyway, here's one of my paintings of him:

    24. Man, we've got seriously talented folks on here!
Anyone else on here doing Inktober? That's mostly what I'm working on right now. (Okay, well, ink and watercolors. :) ) I also work with digital a lot. Inktober is really nice for me because it forces me to focus on traditional stuff. And I'm teaching myself how to use ink with a brush.

    25. There really is a lot of great art in here!! Though it doesn't surprise me that this forum is full of great artists. The customizable nature of BJDs draws artists in, I think!

I don't make artwork very often anymore... but here is my latest piece! It's one of my characters from the MMO Guild Wars 2.

    29. WOW! I love seeing everyone's different styles and mediums, so much talent in here!

I'll post ceramics and digital stuff separately because I think my traditional 2D art is going to fill a post on its own...

Starting with the pencils and moving on through pen and ink and marker pieces:
I've done a BUNCH of rabbit sketches, most of which are sort of silhouetted/minimal. Not very many finished pieces have come of the rabbit sketch-fest, comparatively.
A gift I'd done for a previous art teacher on her departure (she loves owls)
A tiny shark done with a couple of copic markers, a good inking pen, and a white gel pen (I think he's on a 3x3" square, iirc-- I did a couple sharks during shark week).

I think this one is in crayon?:
Class project, still life. I mean, I added in the black background and curtain, all I had to work with was a leopard print blanket and these two decorative jars-on-candlestick-bases.

      The watercolors:
Another shark-- I did a bunch of sketches and then did two finished small sharks, one in the markers and one in watercolor.
Illustration project-- buildings are FAR from my strong suit, so I had to keep a photo of this castle up on my phone as I worked, and... well, I still don't feel strong with buildings, but at least it taught me that I could do it!
Class project on surrealism from last year.
Original illustration project, had one of the art instructors over at the arts center really encouraging me to work on something like a book of watercolors, and so I'd started working on different views of a little town of tiny animal folks.

      The acrylics:
A pair of large acrylic paintings from a couple years back, the green one unfinished here.
And this one is called 'The Fog Comes In'. (the studio where I do my work does NOT have proper ventilation for oils, so... it's all watercolors and acrylics for now, but that's fine-- the watercolors are my favorite anyway).

So far, the acrylic paintings are... a bit cursed. Both The Alchemist (the guy in a toga on the gold-tan background) and The Fog Comes In have had prospective buyers disappear.

    30. @Soenatte thanks :) you have lovely art! Also your link on the signature are not working I went to poke on it and nothing happened :/

So nice to see so many artists, people do lovely work.

    31. YAAAAAY ART THREAD ♥︎ This is my favourite thing, I just really adore seeing all the different styles and types of art.

I started off with traditional art as a kid, then made a jump to photography and digital art when I started owning dolls, because I wanted to take better photos of them. Nowadays I prefer photographing humans, but I'll always be thankful because without my dolls I'll never have gotten into it.

I mostly draw mostly fanart, because I'm boring and have no OCs. >___> I fully understand the sentiment about being reluctant to showcase fanart to family or friends...

      And recent watercolours, variously gifted:

    32. Oh, so many talented creatives here! I'm very impressed how much other wonderful artwork everyone is doing - apart from all the time spent on your dolls.

Most of my artwork is doll-related these days. (I used to draw comics and comic-style illustrations, but I don't have any of my older work online anymore.) Here are some of the things I've done recently:

    33. Wow, I'm loving all the wonderful artists we have here on DOA! The paintings, and drawings are gorgeous. I guess I'm a little envious as drawing is just a little too frustrating for me. I prefer sculpting in paper -mostly dollhouse scale (1/12th) plants. Here is a Cherry Bonsai tree I made just this spring. Each flower is hand cut, painted and attached to the sculpted trunk. It stands about 4" tall by that wide.

    34. Ohhh, this thread * A* So much skill.

Iiii am actually the opposite in which I just have a whole slew of OCs. Lately I've been really heavily into a pokemon gijinka kind of roleplay so I've been designing a lot based off those.

      Celisse is my newest, she's a pirate Aggron ; v;

    36. I'm currently working on a BJD, it's such a slow and difficult process! Wow! Here's my girl today:

I'm just starting to flesh in her arms and legs. I'm hoping to send her away to Haru Casting when I'm done with her, that's the only reason I've been able to keep working on her! Knowing I don't have to do the casting part is a huge relief!

    37. Here's my ceramics stuff:
Two tries for my contribution to a big ceramic sign for the arts center where I take classes and have studio time.
Here my ceramics instructor gave me a pre-made bisque mug and glaze pencils, because she thought my biggest strength was in detailed drawings, which she said not all ceramicists have a talent for, and wanted to see what I could do with the glaze pencils. I did an octopus.
A cup for holding makeup brushes (or art supplies). Major theme in my work seems to be tentacles. They look much more green in person, but came out a bit of a sickly yellow in the photo...

      Unglazed WIP ceramics pics:
This piece is actually now finished and living on one of my mother's shelves-- a little robin's nest with three eggs (one for each of her kids) and a feather. One of my earliest pieces, and it's a bit clumsy and chunky compared to more recent pieces, but it's a meaningful one.
One side of the bowl I just recently finished-- it's much lighter, as it was from our introduction to working in paperclay. The robins in the tree were made by pouring paperclay slip onto a pair of rubber stamps, then peeling the finished little birds free once dry, and using more slip to adhere them to the side of the bowl. The other side has a rabbit done using the same method. They haven't yet gone back into the kiln after glazing, afaik.

      Digital:
This was for a palette challenge, and is my current favorite of my own digital art pieces (well, I've also got a paperdoll I've been working on, of a character of mine, but as she's very undressed and merely standing next to all her clothes, being a paperdoll, I'd judged her nsfw). And I'm pretty sure my current avatar is the photo I used for reference, haha.
And speaking of paperdolls, these were for a stop-motion bit in a video project.

Ohhh pokemon gijinkas!! Your Celisse is so cool ;o;//// All you've posted looks nice, really ♥ Do you have a public art gallery anywhere? Actually, all of my doll characters (and most of my OCs these days, period) are originally pokemon gijinkas I've made myself haha. I first got into them from RPing years ago and I've just. never. stopped. They're so addicting and I love them.... *u*

    39. @Renarys
Ahh, thank you!! She's super dumb character wise but she tries, hahah u__u//
Um!! Yeah I do! I'm on deviantart and tumblr -- DA for more polished stuff! Thanks for the interest~

Ahhh, that's actually really cool. Most of my dolls are characters as well, but not pokemon. They tend to be "refitted" a bit into doll form so I don't follow the original prototype too much when I dress them though, hehe.

That's fair. I'm the same way-- I used to be pretty apathetic to pokemon type stuff but since this roleplay started I just O(-< There goes my ability to focus on anything else

    44. Crap. Late to the party. I didn't even know DoA was going down for a while and forgot about Brigadoon!!! I LOVE those!

Also LOVE seeing art by all the talented people on DoA. BJD owners are the most impressive folk! :D

I did this Magic Card art many ages ago...

Sorry for the text, was making a banner of some sort, but the art is from Legend of the Five Rings CCG--

There should be a link to my website in my signature, at the end of the list of dollies...!

    47. I love seeing everyone's work!! So many amazing and versatile artists!
@april I used to use that magic card all the time when I played!

I mostly sculpt and do face-ups. I used to paint more than I do now, but I'm getting back into some painting lately, I finally have an actual work space that is set up after years of working on a kitchen table. Anyway here is some of my sculpting work:

    49. Here are two of my sculpts. The old woman is 'Sorrow" and the man is my grandfather. He was a Native American of the Seminole tribe. They are made from Sculpey over aluminum foil armatures.

    57. I love your frog! I have a weakness for frogs not that I need anymore in my collection, most of them are packed up anyway. I should dig out some of my art and post pics.

    58. My art is not good, and when I draw I seriously have no idea on how they might turn out. My style is also completely different from when I first started drawing. Please forgive all the guidelines! I drew them in pen.

This one somehow turned out looking a bit my aunt Nikki for some reason.

Don't even ask on who or what this one is. I quite honestly don't know, but he somewhat reminds me of a cross between Gollum and an original ghoul character I created for an RP.

Besides the little eye problem, this one is my favorite.

And here's an example on how I used to draw.

    60. I doodle a lot of my OCs nowadays during class since I don't have that much free time to draw.

This is my OC, Miki Kurosawa. I actually dressed up as him for Halloween a few days ago.

When I get a chance to, I would really like to get back to sculpting so I can make a head of him for a doll. He has a horn that grows from the side of his head and one from his eye. I'm thinking about making the horns magnetic.

Because the holidays are coming up, I've been doing a lot of sewing. I only sew by hand because I need to buy a new sewing machine. I also sew simple things for my dolls.

And yes, that squid is bigger than my bed.

I also take silly pictures of my anime figures.

I don't have any recent digital drawings because I haven't been drawing on the computer very often. I also haven't been doing a lot of sculpting either. I also haven't painted pictures for about three years now. But this is what I enjoy right now along with the bjd hobby.
