I’m a self taught artist who’s been drawing since I could hold a pencil. Other than a short stint as a tattooist I’ve not made a living from it, too many bad experiences with people expecting miracles from dreadful photos or constantly changing their minds giving little thought to the hours you’d already spent when doing pet portraits really soured things for me. Haven’t done much these last few years other than my dolls faceups, lost my mojo. Some of these are really old! I thought I'd post in this thread for the first time. Here are two of my characters, both of whom I'd eventually like to do 3D sculpts of (currently working on one!). Something spooky for fall!
I've been an artist my entire life and used to teach art. Currently working on an oracle card deck. I prefer pagan, fantasy and nature based themes and my favorite medium is watercolor. All of my artwork is hand drawn / painted. I also sell my art (and vintage items) on Etsy. Here's 2 examples of my paintings:
It's been a while since I've peeked into this thread, and I am not disappointed in the least! @Blodeuwedd your art is breathtaking and I know what you mean. I've been primarily focusing on faceupping too, though I've been trying to draw from time to time again. I feel I haven't been able to come up with anything I really want to draw, you know? @Seaweed your piece is wonderfully spooky and I love your lines and how you did the glow of the lights and eyes as the only colored points! @SteamWitch I always love seeing your pub, the anime manipulation is quite a lovely touch with all the trinkets in the background @earth.spirits your work is beautiful! Watercolor is also my favorite medium when I do traditional art. I haven't done much this year personally art wise other than digital. I love doing both, sometimes even combined! Now to rifle through some of my art from this year... First big piece I did. It was a redo of a redo from 2009. Digital in Procreate From the fall, done for a prompt of "Cycle of Life". Digital in Procreate Portrait inking practice in digital Again a redo, but this time of a piece from 2010 This one kinda took on a life of its own. The idea behind it was a butterfly with skulls in the wings

Really great work! It leaves quite an impression! I have so much new art to share from this year, it’s kinda crazy!
I mainly do digital painting and illustration! I've been trying out pixel art recently, as well. (This is my first time trying to upload images here, hope it goes through alright.) A commission I did for a friend.
Thanks a lot! I have been fond of some manhwa over the years, so I guess it peeks through. I really like how they draw eyes and hair.
I have been doing a lot of watercolors lately, mostly D&D characters for games I'm in! Sadly some are just for one shots. I post tons of art on my Substack though which I used as a replacement for FB which I don't like. Breaking Whinge | Che Gilson | Substack I'm TRYING to give more gouache and acrylics a try but they are a steeper learning curve for me than watercolor which I've been doing for years
My background is in digital art of a variety of different subjects, but here’s a colored experimental sketch I’m particularly proud of! I tried a way of coloring skin that I don’t usually do, and I definitely want to explore it more.
Here's Sally and Jack. I'm actually shelling these two characters this summer! [Edit:] For the life of me, I can't remember how to post images from Flickr correctly. Here's a link until I can get it to work correctly. ^^; JS_first_meeting [Edit 2:] Okay, finally fixed it. It's copy the BB Code, then paste it into the post box without using the Image button. What a headache. ^^; JS_first_meeting by Mandy McMahon, on Flickr
Loving everyone's artwork - So many creative and talented folks on this thread! Here's another of my watercolor paintings:
Oh I love how trippy this looks! I really love how you colored the skin with the different primary colors mixed in. So much pastely goodness! That is super cute, I like the emotions on the two's faces What a lovely portrait, I love that the person's eyes are the same color as the cat's!
I've done a TON of art this year so far, so I want to share my favorites! Watercolor portrait, the designs on the face and the weird halo sparkle and shine in real life Also done with watercolors, I struggled so bad with the skin, especially the face! But, I came to a point where I refused to work on it anymore Then I did this cute little gift art for a friend's birthday This one is based on how I feel when I disassociate, drawn when I wasn't feeling well. I like it a lot though This one is a redo of a piece I originally drew in 2005, so 18 years apart. Here's a link to the original piece A color challenge piece, I like how this one turned out a lot I experimented with a lot of different digital brushes in this piece, so it took longer than I feel it should have And last but not least a quirky little self portrait in honor of pride month!
I do a lot of digital art on the side. I'm not as frequent in doing them as I used to be, lost a lot of passion during college so I stopped uploading them for a long while. It's only recently I started being more active on my Instagram account. The upper pic is a Legend of Zelda OC I designed based off the new game, and the lower pic is the character I'm shelling out with my Volks MDD. Currently working on sewing the outfit for her.
It's always nice to pop in every half a year or so and see what's new. Today I did a small painting of my cat. I've had a really tough year of it, and especially had this kind of emotional and mental block with watercolor, so I'm proud of myself for trying again and getting through it this time IMG 20230827 213150 — Postimages
It's been a while, but I fell into those "DIY tiny dollhouse" building trend. But I realised that they make great diorama backdrops for 1/12 dolls and Nendoroid dolls. So I started to kit-bash them to fit the dolls in. This one is my latest! Dropping in to show this one I just varnished, which was laying around since May (much like me) and because of it I have jokingly called it my Goya summer Link
last notable piece of Hand-drawn Art i ever really did... back around 2002. i had this terrible habit with too much body detail in some odd places then... such as the Neck/Throat, for starters;
Loving all the recently posted new (and old) art in here! I have... drawn so much this year already, over 100 finished pieces, which is a very high output for me. Let me post some of my favorites since June I redid this one again, but digitally this time Not sure if this one will work, but it needs to be a video to really see the effect of this piece. Traditional watercolors on mixed media paper Halloween cat And now for some Inktober (digital) pieces: Potion Kitten Forest Herbs In total I have done 108 finished pieces, not counting the pieces I did in art therapy this year... Maybe I should count them?
My latest non-2D works. I know of went crazy with the gnomes. Slysnak is my personal gnome the others will be presents for my friends. Slysnak, the gnome by SteamWitch, on Flickr WIP Christmas gnomes by SteamWitch, on Flickr Halloween Zombie gnomes by SteamWitch, on Flickr
Oh no the thread is dying again this is my favorite Brigadoon topic so I will give a gentle offering again (from my sketchbook) Link
Ugh, so many cool artists on DoA!! I mainly have a bunch of half-finished pixel art sitting on my hard drive... But here's something (from years ago) which I actually finished: I'll see if I can dig up some more semi-presentable stuff later... EDIT: Here we go, a little collage:
I absolutely love the delicate rendering on this portrait! And thank you for reviving the thread, despite having created it I forgot it existed for a hot minute… Oh that looks really fun! Your pixel work is really nice! Definitely good to share here! I should share some new work too:
Ah reviving is my pleasure @IzabethS it's such a cozy little thread I feel like I never saw the bearded character illustration of yours yet he's awesome! I love seeing everything! Those are cool textures in the manipulation @SteamWitch ! @babezoid I love your pixel art! Looks like you can do different styles too, that's really awesome! I've been working a lot lately so I'm going to plop this small skyscape in here too why not. Link
@AlisonVonderland Thanks! Sometimes I think my "style" is that I don't have one Also: digging the loose brushstrokes on that painting! Very dynamic I've been bored out of my mind, waiting for my Unoa to get here... so I started doing little MS Paint sketches of other people's dolls. Made a little collage of them (a "dollage" if you will...) Featuring: @cobaltconduct's Vickie @aihre's Gael @Ho.taru's Már @Saphariel's "General" Harding @nyaaain's Sochi @juni-fee's Lila @Nikki'sNewObsession's Gia Benoît @Morgan Rei's Baste @BlackSheep's Keagan and Jonah @PoeticSoul's Eevee (Hope y'all don't mind me drawing your dolls, if you do just message me and I'll remove it!)
@babezoid Oh wow! Not one, but two surprises! Thank you so much! My dolls look so cute in your style, and I like all the other pictures, too. What a wonderful thing to come home to, thank you! I'm definitely saving these to look at later.
Aw thanks for the compliment @babezoid what you say about not having a style, I used to feel that way about myself too. And I do like to do several different things, maybe that's what throws me off (feeling like I didn't have one) but friends seem to think otherwise so I chose to believe them Anyway, back with a new painting. This is a nice large one 33" tall. Inevitably looks a bit more garbage in condensed photo form but eh, try to believe Link Was generally thrilled to get back to a size I like and hopefully will paint some more soon.
There is so much terrific art that I had to bump this thread and share some of my digital work. The Sea Nymph, various licensed images Creusa and Aeneas, various licensed images Untitled. A guy I sketched in a bullet journal, scanned and edited in Procreate.
Those are cool @tenukihandcrafts ! I especially like the first one. I come to feed the thread with this last little mixed media study Link
untitled photo composite. The graffiti is on lower Queen Anne in Seattle with Wolf. The photo was run through PhotographyBB FromDusk Till Dawn Photoshop action.
I draw dark fantasy art, this is a jorōgumo concept from last year I might be able to shell! Spoiler for spooky/bugs just in case Spoiler Also a portrait of a D&D character/OC from a sky pirate story I'd like to shell, but I don't see it happening without mods. She's technically her own thing but closest I can think of is a hobgoblin.
I am sort of mediocre at all the creative things I do, I really admire artistic talent other people have. One thing I think I’m good at though is photography. I can do photo manipulation as well but don’t have any good examples available because they have people in them who I don’t post online. I haven’t added any photos since 2020 NineOneThree - Hobbyist, Photographer | DeviantArt
