artificial light?

Feb 26, 2020

    1. hello everyone!

my girlfriend and i recently got a shelving unit for all of our dolls and collectibles (we have very naughty cats that love to get into them) and the unit has lights in it. i can't help but worry that leaving the light on will do some kind of damage to my dolls? i'm so paranoid about keeping them out of direct sunlight, so i was wondering if artificial light could have the same damaging effects. i didn't see anything on a cursory search on doa, feel free to direct me to another thread if this has been asked!

    2. Certain lights can and will yellow resin. It depends how much ultraviolet radiation they give off. LED lights are probably your best bet. Luckily they’re widely available, getting cheaper, and they last for years.

    3. thank you sm! i rlly appreciate this answer :aheartbea

    4. Note that heat is one of the things that encourages resin to yellow. You might want to check how much heat the lights are giving off too. LEDs again are safer, but I've noticed a group of LED bulbs can still get pretty warm in some cases.

    5. If they are halogen lights built into the unit, that would be bad. Those give off UV light. Some halogens fixtures have UV shields but not all. If they are LEDs, they won't give off UV but larger ones can give off some heat. LED stick-on light strips have lights small enough that they do not heat up.

It depends on what those lights are in the shelving.

    6. I am wondering about this. How much of an impact would an LED light have if I had it one for one hour a day.

My little lady is right in the center top of the display cabinet with the light. It is a 100W-equivalent GE PAR20 LED lamp. It does give off a little heat. I could possibly move her to the side and out of the direct light. I would like to have the light come on for an hour each evening.
