I know BBCode forums are pretty old news to younger folks today; I’ve met lots of people that are all over the internet, but don’t know how to use the forums that I grew up with! I love hobby forums of all types, even now. So I’m wondering, what other forums are you on besides this one? Other doll forums, hobby forums, social forums... Let’s hear about them and why you love them! I’m on another doll forum as well as DoA, but that’s it at this point. I used to be on several social forums, but stopped those a while ago. I’m looking for one to talk about anime figures and similar things like Polynians and Nendoroid dolls now. I haven’t found any yet though!
I've also been a forum person since I've started being regularly online (from 2004 on). I had been on Lord of the Rings themed forums back then mostly, which all don't exist anymore today...they were just small German ones. I was in several BJD forums, two Blythe and one Dollfie Dream one as well at a time. Aside from DoA I'm just on one German BJD forum nowadays, but that one has been dying slowly too. Forums are just not as popular anymore. Writing posts take time, more time than posting a picture on Instagram or pressing a like button. You need an extra account, unlike Facebook groups in which everyone and their mum manages to post in. It's sad, because only forums allow for forming a closed community (Instagram for example is used by everyone, including non-hobby people). And they are way better suited for preserving hobby history and information. Information posted elsewhere is bound to disappear faster. Regarding your search, maybe try Facebook groups? Those seem to be more active on that front :O
I'm a member of alternate history. Joined to read fanfiction, stayed for the amazing historical settings and alternate universes. With a somewhat scary amount of detail. But it really helps with my dolls backgrounds! Though I have yet to admit that that is the reason why I am so interested in Imperial China
@Merla that sounds very interesting! I would have never guessed a forum like that existed! @Ara I agree so much with you! Forums have something that other social networks will never have. All threads are easy to find, all the information is more available, and posts don't just "go down" until they get lost. Forums are definitely more organized. I am in two other forums besides this one, both related to musical instruments. The first one is Ukulele Underground, so yes, basically about ukulele. And the other is Harp Column. I'm still saving to buy my first harp, so I feel the same as people here that don't have any doll yet but they can't wait to get one!
I am on SEWING AND pattern review because I sew bridal and various garments. This is the only one besides DOA and I don't participant in other social media, not enough time in the day.
I'm on DollDreaming since I also collect vinyl/anime dolls. I've been on EnchantedDollForum for years but I have not enough time now to participate in more than two Forums
I'm not a huge forum person... I'm pretty shy, and I think I'm in that age bracket that was JUST old enough to get a taste of forums before they sort of fizzled out. I certainly never expected to use a proper forum again, but here I am! The only forums I've been on for any substantial amount of time (that I remember) was Gaia Online (GCD regular lmaooo) and Bubblegum Dancer, a forum dedicated to music groups like Aqua and Caramell. And yeah, I still have the same music taste as I did then. I listen to Barbie Girl unironically.
I love forums! Tho now most stuff has seemed to shift to Discord for main conversation, forums that I visit often have pretty prominent forum boards. Tho I really seem to like pet sites. DoA Gaia (since '05 but I hate it to death now) Matope (started as a pet thread on Gaia and then made their own site/forum) Aywas (digi pet site) Eldemore (digi pet site been down for over a year for "revamp" but it's questionable now) NaNoWriMo (yearly - as of now, I'm surfing the forum for other writers!)
I'm on as little UK-based BJD (and other doll) forum, a Dolls House forum (traffic there is so low now that it averages about one new post every few months). I used to be on all sorts of Historical Costume forums and a few other doll forums, but most of them whithered and died once people started moving to Facebook, some of them even moved to facebook, so since I refuse to even contemplate getting into that time-sink I'm down all those forums now, and have lost touch with swathes of people (but no longer have the problem of not having time to keep up with everyone's posts) I'm also on LiveJournal and DreamWidth. LJ was a wasteland for years after the event of Facebook, then some people started drifting back to it as they got more and more pissed-off with Facebook... only for most of them to then to jump ship to DreamWidth. I post to DW (cross posting to my LJ account) and I read friend's posts on both because some didn't make the transition to DW with the rest of us. Teddy
I'm on two 1:6 action figure-dedicated forums, and one that focuses on 1:6 action figures plus 12" fashion-doll-esque type toys, although it does include a broad spectrum of those, there are not a lot of active members. I'm not active on any; mostly I just lurk to see "what's new," or what figures will be releasing soon, so I don't miss out on the ones I want. I'm not super active on here either, I've always been more of a lurker. I've joined a few Blythe forums in the past, but had a little hiccup with older computers, so I kind of "lost" some places I visited and didn't know by name. DX
I'm on here and Dollieh Sanctuary and that's about it besides my blog but it's about what ever I'm in to along with dolls, which hasn't been much lately.
I'm on NaNoWriMo and a sort of story discussion site. I like forums. Not sure what the age cutoff tends to be, but I find them easier to follow and good for just cruising around.
I don't really hang out anywhere too often. When I was younger I was huge into GaiaOnline. Sometimes I hang out in some niche hobby imageboards but I'm mostly in the hobby boards on Reddit.
I’m shy and have some trouble trusting and opening up to people but I’m in a couple of “virtual doll” forums like Gaia Online, Subeta and Kingdom of knuffel. It’s where I sell art commissions usually, post my art and talk about crafts like sewing and crocheting. (But not much, most are kinda deserted nowadays). I recently joined reddit but haven’t found a good place to hang out there yet. I’m also eagerly waiting for Dappervolk to launch this year, a new virtual doll dress up / virtual pet game which I liked participating in the beta forums. I used to be on a Brazilian forum for Bjds but stopped visiting and found out it closed Oh I have a livejournal and dreamwidth accounts but both places seem deserted to me, or maybe I’m in the wrong fandoms.
This is the only forum I'm on, been considering joining Dolldreaming, but so far I've been too lazy to create an account there.
I've been out from the hobby since 2010, I was in several spanish bjd forums that don't even exist today, only one of them is still active but with very little activity. I guess Facebook groups hace replaced forums, and I don't like it..
I'm on quite a few Facebook discussion groups. BJDs, dollhouse miniatures, Barbies, etc. Way back in the early days I belonged to a small BJD forum. There were only about 6 of us who posted regularly and we got to be pretty good friends. Sadly the forum folded. DoA was really new and you had to be invited to join. It was a year or so before I was able to join.
