I ordered the Elfdoll Rainy body since yesterday it was available again, but I'm not sure about it...

 

Why are you not sure?

 

Because I see so many people prefer Elfdoll hybrids (at least on SD) This body is not so realistic as the head is, there's actually something weird...

 

I see. I asked because I thought it was something related to the posability.
I prefer Elfdoll hybrids myself, because I like other bodies better.
I once owned a Lydia with ED old body, and I didn't like it because of its bigger diminsion (compared to my other SD bodies) and I had big troubles finding fitting clothes. But I think they fix that problem somehow...

Let us know how does this new body go when it will arrive to you. I'm very curious.

Anyway i've used silver milliput which works fine, but i do recommend using extra fine if possible

I prefer Elfdoll hybrids, although I still have three on the Elfdoll bodies, simply because I find the Elfdoll body clunky and not graceful at all. Shinydoll is my favorite.

 

About hybrids well i see the old ElfDoll body and look nice, but i really don't know how was pose ability, anyway i don't like the actual body sculp...

$abbatha So that's how it's done--very interesting to see the reinforcement project-shouldn't have any worries about breaking now. At first I wondered about those little bits of resin in the Barbara head then I realized it's the eyelids.

I'm working on an outfit for my June-decided to enter the Project Runway game for this round, mostly just to motivate myself to get my poor girl out of her island outfit. Hopefully I will finish it.

Thanks for posting pics $abbatha! That's actually super helpful to me! I can see what you did and how you did it. I'm not so nervous to try doing this on my two Rita heads now! Might wait before I do Clove though, she has an almost finished face up and I'd like to take pics of her and have some fun with her before I wipe her yet again. lol

As far as the whole Elfdoll and hybrid thing goes, most of my ED girls will have different bodies, mostly because I love having my girls all look different and also because well yeah the Elfdoll bodies aren't as realistic as the heads. That said however, I have a Pinup body for my Snow Skin Rita head and I absolutely LOVE it. I have no idea what the new body is like and how it compares to the Pinup but that body is my favourite of all my doll bodies currently. It's so sturdy and poses really beautifully.

I like the Pin Up body the best surely of all the ED ones, but I love the graceful attitudes of the Thaasa body.

 

Stella Maris I've seen the Thassa body and I agree that is poses well, however the actual aesthetics of the body tend to put me off a bit. It seems very fragile and rather small in scale and the lower legs are just too short and spindly for my taste--she has no calves! Do you have any full body pics of the the Thassa body with an Elfdoll head on it? I'd love to see the proportions.

 

I agree aboy the pin up body, it was surely their best ever, so far...

About hybrids, today I finally got my Granado Maiden body in normal skin and I have to say that the resin match to the ED NS is great!
Here's a pic, the head wasn't fixed but just leaned over the body to see the colors (I didn't attached the head properly because even if the body was meant for my Rita, since I've just received a new floating head which match well with it too, I'll keeping my ED girl on the Mirodoll for the moment) btw if someone is interested in seeing the proportions and all, I can take more pictures with the head regularly placed on the body

 

Savage, that's so interesting that the resin is so thin on your girls!! I have Rita and I used to have Barbara and I never had any problems with them. I wonder if you just got a bad batch of casting. I know they switched casting companies at some point. Maybe they weren't happy with the job they were doing?

Arcane Desires, I agree with you! I ADORE the Pinup girl body!! It's one of my 3 top favorites! I'm prefer bodies that pose really well, like the Luts Senior Delf body and the Feeple60. The lines of the Pinup body are so graceful and beautiful and she does pose really well! She also stands beautifully and is not one bit kicky!!

 

Angelic_Pretty Oooh not that I can see much but she looks great with that body! The colour match looks wonderful too. I love it! If you were willing to take some more pics of her head properly on the body, I would absolutely love to see them. Gah I'm always in love with your girl, she's gorgeous even wigless! XD

KathrynB So your girls eyewells were almost paper thin in parts like mine and $abbatha's? I have no problem with them and they haven't like broke or anything, but they really are super thin. I can't speak for my second Rita head, she won't be in my hands until next week, but as far as I remember, my friend who also has a Rita, her eyewells are similar to Clove's. Honestly, I'm wondering if it's something to do with the Snow Skin ones or something, because my girl, $abbatha's girl and my friends girl are all pretty thin. I'll be able to see what Hemlocke's are like when my girl comes home. Anywho, LOVE the aprons! They look so good and your girls are adorable in them! XD

No, my Rita's eyewells are fine. I mean, they are thinner than the rest of the head. But, not dangerously thin at all!! She's a NS. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Thanks about my aprons. I've been meaning to work on these forever! I made human size ones for me, patterned after an apron I saw (and tried to order!) on Victorian Trading, but was discontinued. I saw smaller-scale dots and stripes and just HAD to make them in doll-size, too.

Is that Clove???? She's ADORABLE. The freckles are so realistic!! She's going to be stunning!!

It's good to see you back around here! I've been quiet myself. Between work and keeping up with stuff, I haven't had much time. But, over the summer, I'm sewing and catching up.

I can't wait to see your Clove when she's done!!

 

KathrynB Hmmm, I do wonder if it's a Normal Skin versus Snow Skin issue, or merely a casting thing from fairly recently since all our heads are fairly new or... Well I honestly don't know but where the open parts of her eyes are, the resin is so thin it's really quite scary. I don't own a single doll with eyewells like that. It's not like that thin all the way through her eyewells or anything but it sure tapers into incredibly thin resin, made me terrified to remove her old face up and do her new one actually. But she's never broken so I'm ok with it.

Those aprons are wonderful, they really look so good and so professionally made. Your good! Makes me wish I had a girl doll who would wear something just so I could have one too! XD And thank you! Yes that's Clove, slowly but surely she's getting done. As you can see she was not impressed by the length of time it's taking me or the photoshoot (probably because Cato isn't in it) but that's really good to hear. I keep worrying her freckles aren't realistic enough and that she doesn't look good enough, but a few people have said they like her so YAY! That makes me super happy. I love, love, loved her Elfdoll faceup, but it just wasn't right for her, even though it's not professional or anything, she feels more right and matches the character better I think. I love her so much!

It's great to be back and good that your back too. I know how it is being busy, nice to know you're ok though. I'm really hoping she'll be finished next week sometime so I can work on the others, but I still have to do her body blushing and freckles and her manicure and pedicure. But for now, I'm mostly just trying to get all my dolls faceupped so I can take pics of them again. XD Eeeee!

I was in first a little surpriced by the very thin eyewells of my Rita head, i've asked here some advice and also i've got few PMs with ArcaneDesires, which i must thanks so much for letting me buy the rita head cause she sent a super nice pm to le me know about new re-stock of Rita head. :3
Anyway i got some infos that several Rita heads have this thin eyewells, i decided to repair its cause seems too thin and almost about to break
Said so could it be merely a mold issue? I say perhaps the final sale of entire ED heads was casted not paying mind to conditions of the mold, that merely has led to thinness of heads itselves..
$avage, she's my twin sister, got Barbara head in NS and even though eyewells are not that thin as in Rita well are anyway a way too thin..maybe as NS is a different color the thinness is less visible , just saying..

 

Thank you, Arcane Desires! I recall Elfdoll changed casting companies a couple of times. Maybe that was because they were unhappy with the job they were doing? I ordered two normal skin heads at that end of the year sale and both "normal" skins were different from one another. So, I'm sure that was all just leftover stock from different castings.

Thanks about the aprons!! It keeps me off the streets, and out of trouble, lol! I've wanted to get several sewing projects underway. I'm happy to finally be getting to do it. I have to take over the dining room table and the whole dining room to do any sewing. So, I have to get it all done at one time, lol!

Clove it going to be gorgeous!! And, it makes sense that you'd want Clove to be more personalized. You love that doll very much and she should have a special, one of a kind faceup!!! Please to share pictures when she's done!! It's hard to tell if you're doing a good job when you've been staring at it from two inches away for hours!! She really does look great and her freckles are too cute!!

 

Sabbatha, I'm sorry to hear you got such a thin-walled Rita. I'm glad you were able to repair it. She's a beautiful sculpt and so worth it - especially at those prices on their year end sale!!!

Long story short, I found someone on DoA with a couple guy heads I wanted to compare to my Soah and they just happen to work at the mall down the street from me! LOL So we are meeting tomorrow morning and if one of the heads I'm eyeing works out I'll probably buy it for my lone headless SD man body.

KathrynB thanks for sharing this info about older ElfDoll heads.Personally my Barbara head was overall fine compared to Rita head of $abbatha, but Barbara headcape was almost trasparent in the middle, and eyesocket area was as well, at that point i decided to reinforce all inner part of her head.
About extra eyelids well was very very thin, i've fixed just the ones that i was going to use and if someone need some pics juts to have as reference i can try to snap som pics of other eyelids to show how thin came

 

Awww thanks KathrynB! That really made my day. It really is so hard to be objective, especially since I want her to be so perfect since she means so much to me and since I'm just continually comparing her to more 'professional' looking faceups. But I took her out today to look at even though I can't finish her off just yet and realised actually I totally love her and e watt she looks so much. I really hope she's gonna look gorgeous when I get done with her, I'm so excited to have a finished doll again, or will do soon anyway. Soon as I have decent pics of at least her faceup done, you can be sure in will share them all over! XD

I take over the whole living room when I attempt to sew... Its terrible, it really is. Especially since I can't actually sew... Lol But perhaps that is why Elf I'll switched. I didn't know about that so that makes sense. Or perhaps as $abbatha says since it was the last few and the moulds were worn out, they were a little thinner than they should be. Hmmm

Arcane Desires, I know exactly how you feel!! It's SO scary taking the factory faceup off of a beloved doll and hoping you can do a good job on them!!! I've been almost shaking before when I finally decided I would wipe the faceup and try one of my own. So. Scary!!! I've wiped and redone dolls over and over just because I wanted it just a certain way. But, there are always points where I'm just sure I ruined the doll.

Good find, from what i've seen in the video review no way. I mean i could get the same pose ability from a company which body cost a way less..so imo Rainman needs seriously to update a future girl body cause the actual one doesn't work, at all.

That's what I thought too: the shape is much better than in promo pics, but the posability is really bad, especially for the lower part.

So, do you think Elfdoll will make a new and hopefully improved body in the near future? And maybe could it fit the "older" heads?

 

You're right, the body seems really nicer, on Elfdoll promo pics it look a lot less gracious!

The posability issue, to me, it's related to the way it has been strung: very tightly I suppose.
But if she will ever re-strung it better, I think that it could also pose better! I had this problem with a Luts delf body, and it was all about restringing it.

About Rita's thin head problem, I have to say that mine (bought on Dec 2013), was just fine. She doesn't have thin resin anywhere! So I wonder what is this about?

Aww thanks Alewife! That really makes me happy and gives me hope that I'm not doing a bad job of her after all. I'm really really hoping that we have the good weather we're being promised on wednesday because my friend is coming round and I can borrow her mask since mine is broke and needs replacing so I can actually try and finish her off. Well about the body i'm not such positive that restrung would help overall, i see that legs are kicky and when a doll move like this even if you'll going to restring it will be the same, with double joints could change but with single joints not tha much...

I'm glad to hear you say that about your Rita. I was wondering if I got lucky and was the only one! But, I have no problems with my Rita resin. The thickness is just fine.

 

Thanks for posting this, Christinopia!! The body really does look more lovely than the Elfdoll site photos make her look. I had my doubts about those boobs! Also, I just wanted to give a tug to her Euna's right leg. The other one was fine. It looked like maybe the elastic was just in a twist or something. I hope she gets her to stand! Thanks again for posting the link to that video!!

 

Imo the problems with the body is the system of joints, so even stringing back again could helps but not solves the issue, just my point of view of course.
Even if i like sculpt well i would not buy cause i can spend less and having and the same pose ability or spending more and having a better sculpt with better pose ability.
Really don't know about Rita head.. i got my head on April 2013..

 

For those interested, I finally got a concrete answer from Elfdoll..
they told me they're going to reopen sale on September with new lovely sculpts but all the old models will be discontinued and they're going to sell limited edition rainy dolls in future, only.
Such a bad news....

I didn't know it was going to be in Sept when they started reselling, but they said they would only be doing the limited edition rainy dolls so not unexpected, but still sucks... I still really want a second Vivien, but at least I got my second Rita head yesterday. Skintone is sort of half way between my Snow Skin girl and my Normal Skin girl. Different batches of resin really do come out totally different. BUT it's a beautiful colour and I know of a few skintone matches that would work fairly well. XD

On the subject of the thin eyewells on the Rita heads, well I really do wonder if it's a Snow Skin thin now. My new Rita head has fairly thin eye resin, but it's not as scary thin as Clove's (who I believe is pretty much finished now, aside from having to have upper eyelashes put in) and there is a difference in the thickness when comparing my new Normal Skin girl to my not quite so new Snow Skin one. Ah well, nothing I can't fix, especially after seeing the super helpful pics $abbatha put up for me! Thanks hun! XD

Delurking to add-- I got my NS Rita in July 2013 and she does have some really really thin spots. Her eyewells are super thin and so are her temples. I noticed it right away when I first got her but at the time I didn't know if that was just normal or whatever since she was not only my first BJD but the first BJD I'd ever seen in person! I probably will reinforce it now that I know how.

 

Thanks so much to Elnyun for sharing the info about the new sales of Elfdoll. I think that having new sculpts is awesome, but the limited dolls is not. I don't know what to expect in terms of body, and more over i'm worried for pose ability..from what i've seen in the useful review posted by Chistinopia Rainy well..he's not that good in joints system..that is scary to me..

Arcane so finally you got your second Rita head, finally i'm super happy that you got her finally! Seems also that the color is pretty interesting! I must confess that posting piccies of my head made me feel less alone i'm super picky for what concerns thinness of resin..i could also explain again how i did it..finding some extra fine milliput is a good way to start..then all is needed is patience and time!
Darkeststar thanks also for your review about Rita head as well..seems that the matter is not merely ont a skin color then..perhaps depends from batches..don't know..

 

thedarkeststar13 Yeah my normal skin girl is still super thin at her eyewells and temples, but still not as dangerously thin as Clove seems to be. It's obviously a thing to do with the sculpt I'm sure, but I'm still wondering if the Snow Skin ones are just that little bit more delicate or something. Not a completely skintone based thing, but from what I can see the tone does make a little difference between the thinness. Or it seems to anyway. I'm guessing it's mostly to do with the mold wearing out or something? Anywho, definitely would recommend reinforcing. Both my girls will be done at some point. *nods* PS nice to see you even for a little bit. XD

$abbatha Thanks! I'm super happy too. She's so gorgeous, even without a faceup. But she's all sealed and ready to be face-upped once I figure out what I'm going to do with her. But yeah the colour is different. All four of my Elfdoll heads and my friends two Elfdoll heads are all diff colours from each other. Obviously to be expected, but I'm kinda amused that between 6 Elfdoll heads, alot of which are from the same sort of time, all the Snow Skin ones are quite different from each other and all the Normal Skin ones are different from each other too. Makes them more fun this way, they all have a diff tone, I like it! XD

 

Woaw having so many differences in the skin tone seems strange but funny, more options fro hybrid then
Regarding the thinnes: maybe on dark or colored resins is less visible than pale color resin tones? Don't know..

 

Elnuyn85, thanks for the news. On the one hand I'm sorry to see the old sculpts go, but on the other hand I'm excited to see the new things they come up with!

 

Elnuyn85, thanks so much for sharing with us these infos, honestly i'm not willing to buy new dolls from Elfdoll in near future, mainly cause without any upgrade on joint this actual body don't suit to my needs, i'm not feel confortable at all in keeping a doll that hadn't a such a greta range of posing....

I know, thanks to all your info and pictures posted in the thread, that awesome hybrids are possible with Elfdoll heads and this was my original intention, as well.. but, well, unless I find a second hand head on the MP I don't think I'll have this opportunity! D'oh!

 

$abbatha Yep, I now have alot of work to hybrid my girls (well three of them anyway, Clove is most definitely staying on her pinup body cos good goddess I love that thing!) but it means I can have fun with the resin matching since they are all slightly different colours and will match a variety of bodies. XD As far as the thinness goes, I dunno, it's weird. Hemlocke (temp name cos I feel bad calling her the Clove doppleganger) is definitely thicker than Clove, so it's not just an illusion, but she's still not much thicker you know? I think it's just how the sculpt is. Ah well, thanks to you I now know how to reinforce my girls so yay! XD

Elnuyn85 Don't give up hope yet! Because of the cheap sales, there are alot more of these girls heads out there lately and I keep seeing them being put up for sale alot lately. Just keep an eye on the marketplace, they appear to go fairly quick, but alot of them seem to have been sold lately. *pats lots* Maybe you'll still get your chance! What sculpt was it you wanted again? Sorry been ill and my mind is like beyond fuzzy and forgetful right now.

I was almost certain it was Sian, but didn't want to be wrong. Now that you mention it, I did see your thread about an open mouthed girl, I've tried to think of possible replacements, but I can't think of any right now. Still I'll keep an eye out for Sian heads, for you! And thank you too. Being ill really does suck, especially since I'm like a little hot from this stupid cold thing and then the summer heat is just not helping... Ergh, but I have medication and lots of water, so hopefully it'll be gone soon!

Yeah.. I bet heat is not helping.. x-x I hate heat in general, so I can understand it's much worst in this moment! Luckily, here in Italy is not that hot anymore--and I personally hope it will last like this for the rest of Summer (only, I'm hoping for more sun...too much rain lately >.>)

Heat definitely did not help, I'm really not good with summer. I get severely irritated and uh... aggressive to, so that on top of this stupid cold or whatever it is... Ergh, so not good. I do feel somewhat better today though, I actually managed to sleep last night. Late and I got up late, but better than nothing. Anywho, keeping fingers crossed and eyes open for a Sian for you! *pats some more*

And uh in my news, please excuse the crappy pic, Clove was not at all co-operative and the lightning in here sucks, so this is the only even halfway decent pic of her almost complete, but well here, have some more Clove spam. Still need to sort her out some upper eyelashes, but I swear her faceup doesn't look half bad in decent light! *epic fail* ;P
