Anthro Dolls: Are they pets of your human dolls, or separate?

Mar 25, 2008

    1. I was thinking about this the other day.

How do your anthro dolls fit into your family?

I haven't quite decided with mine just yet, but I'm sure once I do decide there will be some photostories to follow.

I'm not sure if I would consider them quite like pets, since most of the anthro dolls seem to be bipedal and not quadropeds like most actual pets are.

So what's your opinion on this?

What role do your anthro dolls serve in your doll family? (Or maybe you only have animal dolls exculsively. :D)

    2. My first (and probably only-) anthro doll, a DF PoPo, is currently on order and hasn't shipped yet... but he's slated to be the slightly-more-human form of one of Turtle House's temple foxes.

He'll be Kiji, my MNF Vampire Elf Shiwoo girl's, familiar... so sort-of a pet, sort-of a helper. I'm toying with the idea of she and her father (Kitsumaru, my BW Harang) being the only ones who ever see him in that form. Usually, he's just a furry little fox-pup.

    3. Mine are not pets. My very first doll I ever got is an anthro, so he has set the tone. He is an MSD-sized feline. My Curo is his adopted son. My DZ bunny is also not a pet but is seen as a small child, and then my rodent doll will probably be considered the same.

My dolls have pets, absolutely, but they are a Re-ment cat, some MLPs, and a clay Octopuki, no joints or anything.

    4. Definitely not a pet! I wouldn't be surprised if Minnaloushe thought everyone else in the house was her pet. After all, she is a genuine princess, a descendant of the King (or, more to the point if you know much about cat society, Queen) of the Cats. She's also better dressed than either Kiyoshi or me...okay, than the two of us put together.

    5. Scabbers - Person in an animal shape.
Binky - Pet Bunny, but with a human personality
Xeno - Human Spirit in animal shape
Loppy - Person in an animal Shape
      Princess - Pampered pet.

I think a way to determine Pet vs Humanized Animal, is does the creature talk? If it talks it has more of a human thing to it. Binky doesn't talk, the rest do.

      -Anneke

    6. Eh, Hunter is more of Kaiden's translator, since he is mute by choice.
I don't plan on getting anymore pet dolls though.
      One is plenty. Trust me

    7. My DZ bunny and DZ fox are not pets. Not even close. They are equal to humans, and actually maturity wise both in their 20's, and I consider them older than my Tiny, a DZ Ani, even though they are much smaller than her. Ödi (the fox) does lots of things to help out around the house, but that is more out of a combined friendship and sort of life debt than any actual servitude.

    8. Actually most of our tinies are anthros. They are the 'children' of the household. They aren't pets. Are you Kidding? You obviously haven't met PoPo! That Baha doen't play second fiddle to any resin...or human for that matter. LOL! ;)

Often our anthros fit into the stories as 'cuteness relief'. Except in the case of Popo. She'll steal the spotlight and there have been cases where simple photoshoots turn into stories all about our little white 'princess'.

    9. I don't have one yet, but I have either a Pipose Curio or DZ Bunny on my wishlist. I guess I figured they would be sort of like the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland.

    10. I don't have mine yet, but he's going to be...*interesting*...
I wouldn't so much call him a pet...
I've got a doll whose character is into altered states of consciousness, and I want my future anthro doll to be blushed in some strange colors and such, and will be the strange "guide" or "omen" thing that he sees when he's in an altered state.

    11. Mine are walking talking children who just happen to be animals. I know I've been influenced by all the literature I've read my whole life ... from kid lit right up to modern sci-fi and fantasy, the genres are awash with anthropomorphised characters.

    12. my anthros are sort of like a seperate society of dolls at my house... with the exception of my Catsy, the others never associate with my humanoid dolls. this is not really my intention, it just sort of evolved that way... my fook twins are too 'realisitc' for various critter-people to be running amok in their relationships. The Catsy was my first doll so she is exempt from the realisim rule. My other anthros are primarily for novelty, and i doubt they will develop backstories and evolve as characters like my big dolls will.

    13. Oh Tillie is just another member of the family...she just is a cat :D

    14. I have both a pipos Baha and a Pipos Curo.
Both of them are pets (to two of my human dolls). That happen to talk the human language! ^___^

    15. I have 3 animal dolls now; Pipos Baha and Ringo and a Zuzu kitty. They are kitty people members of my family. I find I am more and more "into" the kitty dolls; I guess I'm a little different from a lot of other folks in that I don't care for fiddling with wigs/shoes, etc. I do, however, like my kitties to be well dressed. They enjoy it too! :aheartbea

    16. I have a ringo and then an alice school angel coming. They will be more like best friends for my more humanoid companions- like speaking pets with their own lives and adventures, devoted to their human on their own free will :)

not that that's how I think of my best friends...

    17. Mine are definitely not pets. They are just other dolls that I like and they are set apart from my other bjd's.

    18. Mine are separate (they interact with the other dolls, but they're not pets) . . . but then again, I have quite a collection of various catdolls of all sizes!

      -- A :kitty2

    19. Separate... definitely not pets. They are their own critters, so to speak.

I have to admit that I haven't had them interact much with my big dolls, so I'm not quite sure exactly how they relate (if at all!). My other tinies (humanoid) are in the same position... I think my tiny world is somewhat separate from my large doll world, although they'll probably pose together at times. And perhaps something may develop in the future... but so far--they are separate.

    20. My anthros, Alice and Molly (Alice Cherry Blossom and Pipos Ringo), are the imaginary friends of my Lati Green girl. My adult dolls can't see them. :)

    21. My anthro dolls are not pets. Although Daisy loves to hitch a ride with Spike.
My large dolls don't interact too much with the tinies, except for Lily.

    22. man. the amount of junk i buy for them...

-i- might as well be the pet >8 [

      hahaha XD

    23. I recieved a DZ Fox around christmas and he was initially supposed to be Kahlua's pet, but when he got here he simply bursted with personality that he became less of an animal in the family. He's now little Adalei's best friend and game companion.
He plays video games with Adalei and eats at the table so it's hard to consider him as a pet. However he doesn't talk, and he's still considered to be a fox by the family. He is however full of personality and fun :aheartbea but he is definitely a member of the family!

With respect to my boys Rifka is something different
Kahlua: Rifka was his christmas present, but Kahlua gave him to Adalei to take care of. Rifka is still close to Kahlua and likes to listen to him play his violin. Kahlua even bought Rifka a little guitar so he could play music of his own
Sanja: Sees Rifka as a 'fellow animal' as he is a Wolf-turned-human boy. He and Rifka have an understanding with each other and are often seen sitting around together doing nothing much in particular
Cody: Has yet to actually meet Rifka so we don't know how he'll react, but he seems to like pretty much everyone
Adalei: Is officially Rifka's 'care taker'. He considers Rifka to be just another kid, he and Rifka play video games together, have adventures, and occassionally he sneaks Rifka to school with him. Adalei doesn't really seem to notice the little guy is a fox at all.

    24. I only have one, and that's a Pipos Bao...and she's kinda...there, heh. I guess were my dolls to have a "being" she'd just exist with the rest...only with huge ears and a tail ^_^

    25. I have no human dolls so, my anthro doll will be a pet to no one. Even if I do get a human doll it would be a pet.

    26. Even if I did get a human doll, any anthros would just be little people in fuzzy suits. XD

Oh, Skittle, I noticed in another thread that you have fursuits? Any pics? You on FA?

    27. I do. The same name as on here, Skittle. I believe there are pics of all three of my suits on there. If not, IM me and I can give pictures.

    28. I have a Pipos Ringo who is my mum's bjd's cat (:lol if thatmakes any sense) They are however also best friends. To me personally, my Ringo is a three year old little girl who just happens to be a cat.

    29. My animals are their own selves. However, I have the Goodreau cat and rabbit which go with my Goth Alice...also by Goodreau.

    30. myu myu....planning a pipos Robin for someone special tome..but I'm sure he wouldn't make it a pet! ^__^ and then I'm also planning a ringo for myself but he won't be a pet...just a lil furry person! Imma furry to so I wouldn't treat an anthro doll as a pet...more like...a helper or friend!

    31. My anthros are people in their own right. They wear clothes, have shoes and accesories and, finally, their own house.

    32. I have only two animal dolls on my wishlist, but they are both unfortunately deemed off-topic for DoA, a DollnDoll Kanu ( which is a tiger) and the new Asleep Eidolin Panda. But I'm pretty sure the only reason I ever fell in love with these two ( other than the fact that their the animal representations of two of my BJDs xD ) is because they aren't human-ish and can look like normal, regular animals. So my answer is simply that, I would want them to be like "pets". ^^ Now if only Kanu would come back in stock...:(

    33. some members consider them pets, others enemies and others siblings.

    34. I don't have any at the moment, but I always see them as pets (Usually Emmy's too)

    35. My first ABJD was a full-set Pushika, and Ruri is very much a "person" in her own right. My next ABJD was a So Ji vampire, totally humanoid except for her ears (& removable wings). I think Ruri considers Amina her pet!

    36. I just got an elfdoll dalsoo, and she is so wonderful she is my first bjd :]
and she is seperate from the other dolls, they have their own pets like little pet shop dogs and all that :]

    37. Sonata isn't exactly a pet, although she likes to act like one. She's a guardian spirit to my ghost boy Rei. She doesn't speak, but he understands her anyway. They're like best friends if anything. Sonata is pretty much a motherly figure for both of my boys. XD

I just love spoiling the heck out of her. :D

    38. Mine stand up on their back legs and wear clothes, so they're not pets. Anthropomorphised animals to be sure, but they live in their own world, separate from the dolls, except for occasional guest appearances.

    39. Mine are mostly cats so they can in no way be considered "pets". They are actually more reflections of the fur people in my house.

    40. Definitely not pets, more like friends I'd say :)

    41. Definitely friends....

    42. I have a Pipos Robin on hold. She is definitely more like another child. I wanted another tiny to be a sister to my Ume (Bobobie March). I was going to get a pink resin child and name her Sakura, but then I saw Robin and fell in love. So she will be the Sakura to my Ume now.

    43. my little Quinn isn't a pet - she's the spoilt baby sister of my SD and MSD, and they're always so overpowered by her cuteness that they give her whatever she wants, when she wants it. she gets away with murder that way!

Quinn: I can haz cookie nau??
      Me: Sure :fangirl:

you see what I mean :|

    44. I am not into the small anthros, so definitely not pets. But if I got a full sized anthro around my dolls height, they would definitely be friends.

    45. I consider my petdoll to be a seperate entity from my bigger guys. Mostly because it's not an actual animal- since he's an anthro he has a face and human body. Also he seems too spunky to be someone eles pet.

    46. So far, my little Julia ACB is best friends with an orange dragon-horse (yeah, my avatar), but when my Lati yellow, arrives, I imagine she'll be more of a little sister.

    47. I'll buy a Pipos Curo, as Walter C. Dolneaz, just as bunny ^__^

Walter C. Dolneaz is a character from Hellsing, he's Integra's butler. And I think he'll be a great bunny, with the butler dress and the monocle.

So, my Anthro will be more like a animal-ized version of a human <3

    48. Griss (who should arrive tomorrow :D) is definitely not Tobin's pet. He's supposed to be her guardian and mentor, but that won't stop her from putting him in frilly dresses. :XD:

    49. In my collection, animals and humans are equal :) I never thought of my anthros being pets :) Some of my anthros are taller then my human BJDs because i only collect the mini ones :) Sofar i have 17 anthros + 2 more on their way and only 3 human BJDs :)

    50. Mine are totally not pets they are friends of my other dolls but they are just talking animals. I have more BJA's then BJD's though. I absolutely adore BJA's!!!!!!

    51. My Pipos Mango will technically be a pet, but will be treated as more of a confidant and freind beause of how she works into Nigel's strange little world.

I'm practicly drooling for some cute adorable owner/pet shots for when she arrives. <3

    52. that's how we treat our pet cat IRL ...

    53. addition:
i decided at least some of my dolls think the animals are just a kind of short and furry people that don't talk with words.
      so... yeah. friends.

    54. Mine (a DZ Fox) is a friend and very much anthro over a quadraped pet. She has a more humanlike history too I suppose. She is quite close to my CP Moon although their pasts have nothing in common. I plan to get a lot more anthros in the future and I suspect most of them will probably be anthros and not so much pets....but it would be fun to have at least one pet.

    55. I have one (Souldoll Aku). He's not a pet, he's a friend of one of my dolls.

    56. hmm pet or not? more of a companion, but isnt that technically a pet...... aghh its complicated i guess if i give him the ability to speak telepathically its something else. q.q im still figuring out the characters and relationships.

    57. Koneko, my Dollmore Catish Reaa, is married to Zai, my Unoa Ane Ange. Simsala Bun, my Dollzone Coney, is the imaginary friend of my large guy Ace. So my anthros are pretty much equals, neither pets nor in a separate universe.

    58. Mine is a magical house-elf/mouse hybrid and pretty much a friend to mine, but is less trusting of other dolls.

    59. I currently consider anthro dolls with humanoid features, such as Doll Chateau Carol and anthros from companies like DollZone, DollFactory, and Pipos, to be magical creatures that are like humans--they talk, wear clothes, etc. But more animal-like dolls, such as the cute bird and hamster from Paper and Sakura, would be like pets. As for stories, my dolls don't necessarily share the same world, so I don't mind if they don't all match. :)
