Anime/Manga discussion

Aug 3, 2015

    1. Omg Mononoke is amazing, it really should be more popular.

    2. Reading 19 days if you haven't read it you should asap.
Currently watching Owari no seraph, Tokyo Ghoul, and One Punch Man.
Wanting to watch Free! and Karneval.
      • If anyone has any dark, psychiologial, shounen ai or bishounen or just hilarious recommedations let me know. :3nodding:

    3. I'm on a shoujo manga kick lately! especiallyreverseharems...

    4. Ooo, I'm going to have to check that one out.

I completely forgot to include Ergo Proxy in my list! I absolutely love that one. In fact, I've been wanting to watch it again here lately. lol

    5. I'm currently watching Show by Rock! and may go back to watching Michiko and Hatchin soon. I was watching Overlord, One Punch Man, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure with my boyfriend too but haven't done so in a while, maybe I'll bug him about watching more of them...Tokyo Ghoul and Death Parade too...
Madoka Magica, Beyond the Boundary, and Blue Exorcist are some of my favorites! :aheartbea (I have too many favorites to list them all, honestly)

as for reading, I've been on and off reading Black Butler, Arpeggio of Blue Steel, and Citrus, and I recently caught up on Kuro, which I'm reading online. I prefer to own my books, but don't have a job to get money for them, so reading goes slowly. >.>

    6. I was currently reading Poison Princess, a cute little manwha I happened to find on my binge search through manga reader. Surprisingly good, and finished too, so definitely give it a read.
I was rewatching Shirayukihime, Yu Yu Hakusho, Marmalade Boy, and Baccano. My addiction has been the Devil May Cry anime (go watch please), but otherwise, Noragami is the only thing I'm keeping up with.
Unfortunately, lately I've been feeling the anime lately is all the same, at least for this past season, but I AM excited to begin watching Hibiki and Your Lie in April (I actually watched the Korean drama for this first, so I am spoiled a bit.)
I need some new good horror anime.

    7. I just finished watching Yona no Atsuki and am waiting for season 2. I also watch K dramas romance/comedies.

    8. The winter shows I'm keeping up with are the new arc of Drrr, of course Haikyuu!! and I'm really liking Erased so far. It is an oldie, but I recently watched The Rose of Versailles. I also really want to see the recent season of Noragami, but I haven't got around to it yet.

    9. I'm currently watching Future Diary, Fullmetal Alchemist, and My Little Monster. I just finished Elfen Lied. It was crazy sad and very dark and twisted but I totally recommend it if you like that kind of thing. It has a great story and I personally really liked the art style and music.

    10. Man, Elfen Lied had me ugly crying when I watched it. I do like those darker sorts of stories, though, but I always seem to balance them out with things like My Little Monster. My Love STORY! was was nice for when I finished Tokyo Ghoul.

    11. I also watch KDramas - got hooked on them when I went looking for some live action anime dramas. True fact: Those dramas on Crunchyroll? NOT Japanese for the most part but rather Korean LOL Several KDramas are live action remakes of Japanese anime/manga - also now a lot of webtoons & manhwa (Korean manga) are showing up as KDramas.

    12. I love Karneval and Tokyo Ghoul too!!!
My favorite character in Karneval is Yogi:D

    13. Everyone who loves watching Owari No Seraph NEEDS to read the manga; it's even better!!

I'm cosplaying as Shinoa this year. XD

I've recently REALLY gotten into light novels these days. Lol, I haven't read books so passionately since Harry Potter! I'm currently enjoying Sword Art Online's novels and Kami-sama No Inai Nichiyoubi (which I have to translate on my own so reading THIS is tedious. XD)

    14. I just finished watching Death Note (after all these years, I only ever finished the first half of the series before now—lol), and Silver Spoon, which was surprisingly amazing.

Now I'm reading Nana and looking for a new anime to start.

    15. Anime wise there hasn't really been anything that has caught my eye this season. I'm mostly using this lull to catch up on older shows like Turn A Gundam and Sailor Moon on hulu.

Manga wise I'm currently reading A Silent Voice and loving every page of it. I'm also trying to stay up to date with He is my only Vampire and Love Stage but I have missed the latest volumes. I'm thinking about re-reading some manga as well. Anyone have any suggestions?

    16. Ouuu, Fullmetal Alchemist is one of my absolute favourites of all time :'D How are you finding it?

    17. I like both FMAs a lot but I think Brotherhood's latter half is WAY better than FMA 2003. 03's ending really pissed me off. lol

    18. I'm really enjoying it! I find it so interesting and really action packed!

    19. Haha, I love them both too! I love Brotherhood for staying loyal to the manga, but I love 03 for the portrayal of the Homunculi <3 <3 Especially Wrath, squeeeee Cx

I'm so pleased to hear that! ^^ I agree, and it's pretty damn funny too X'D

    20. Dantalian no Shoka & Hiiro no Kakera are great fantasy animes as well as Fate/Stay Night, RahXephon, Code Geass, Inu x Boku, Diabolik Lovers, Tsuritama, S-cry-ed, Ao no Exorcist, Gurren Lagann, Steins Gate, FMP, Eureka 7. Zetsuen no Tempest :celebrate

    21. Wrath's story in 03 was good, yes.

Have you seen the ULTIMATE SEXIEST ED FIGURE?

He's just amazing. :aheartbea You can change his face and the coat comes off too! Took me a while to track him down but I found him at a con and he's on my shelf now. XD IT'S HARD TO FIND HOT GUY FIGURES. Wtf Japan.....:roar

      • x 1
    22. They're actually making tons of new hot guy figures. Japan has cottoned on to the fact that it's a lucrative market that was previously untapped.

      AmiAmi [Character & Hobby Shop]

Always good to keep an eye out on what Ami Ami is listing for preorder.

    23. OH MY, HE'S BEAUTIFUL! <3
I'm looking to get the Yami Bakura one from Yu-Gi-Oh! too, I love him CX
      [IMG]

    24. AMI AMI IS BEST

.....and by "best", I mean "worst for your wallet" XD That is indeed where I first saw Ed......and six other very pretty, very expensive figures that I own. XD

GOOD. It's about time they caught on!! Sure took them long enough!

    25. Nice to see you guys talking about anime figures, haha. Anyone on MFC?
Anime-wise I'm watching Penguindrum right now, it's really enjoyable with a great OST!

    26. @TimeyLimey - I have that Bakura fig. He's great in person

I used to post on MFC a lot, but I've gotten away from anime figs and now mostly am into Thor and/or Star Wars figures

    27. Oh! I bought that show! But I haven't watched it yet. XD I tend to hoard anime and it just sits on my shelf until the mood strikes me. It looks really good though.

    28. Oh really??? :D That's so cool Cx

    29. I'm watching Haykuu, and I love how drama and romance free it is.

    30. creeps in here to talk about the volleyball nerds I LOVE THEM AAAAA

currently i'm watching/reading haikyuu and i'm also obsessed with osomatsu-san. any other karamatsu girls here??? i plan on starting erase soon. other series i'm into are durarara, kproject, daiya, and free. i will also go hard for RWBY but idk if that counts as an anime??? i briefly entertained the thought of making a weiss doll, tho *__* she would make the prettiest doll..

    31. A little late to the party, but I recently finished Noragami Aragoto and K: Return of Kings, and just finished Shirobako, and Kuroko no Basuke. I started Beelzebub and that's been amusing so far. The wait for Haikyuu and Erased every week needed to be filled with something.

I just saw on the tokyofashion IG feed that there is an actual Haikyuu store.:drool

Are you up-to-date on Durarara right now? I'm watching the most recent season but I'm kind of tired of it. I don't know what happened. I was really into it in the beginning, but now I'm just watching the rest because I somehow feel obligated to find out what happens.

    32. Ugh this week's Haikyuu upset me so much. The pain of loving the rival team so much more than the main team

I also finally achieved my dream of a Sith Oikawa figure, again based on SuggestiveScribe's Star Wars AU fanfic that has basically ruined me.

    33. @bagofspiders yeah, i'm on ketsu atm. i'm pretty much in your boat LMAO whenever someone asks me what durarara is about i just go "TBH I HAVE NO IDEA" but idk why i'm still watching it. closure i guess? lmao and YES actual haikyuu store! my friend was in japan recently bought me some stuff and they are so nice heollll
@Kim your tooru nendo is so cute!! i have a similar problem with haikyuu i love all the teams equally so every outcome is painful no matter what OTL do you read the manga??

    34. OMG he is so adorable!! :love

    35. That's how I was when someone asked about it, too. I have no idea if I should recommend it to anyone, and at the time I pretty much said "good luck if you want to try" because I was fed up with trying to keep straight all of the characters. There are a couple of the voice actors who I can't quite keep straight yet either because they aren't on much, so when they're narrating, I'm annoyed because it takes too long to remember who they're supposed to be. But yeah, closure. I'm ready to lock to door, haha.

    36. Anyone else in this thread a fan of shōjo ai? I see a handful of BL fans but I've got both feet firmly in the other camp and I have to think I'm not the only one hehe. My girlfriend and I have just finished watching Yuru Yuri and it was the most adorable, heartwarming series I've seen in a long time. Sakura Trick was cute, too.

And non-yuri series I've been into lately include Love Live! School Idol Project, Beautiful Bones, and Nichijou.

    37. I just finished watching Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April). OMG that was an emotional roller coaster! I haven't cried that hard in a long time.
It was extremely predictable but overall quite good. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys bawling their eyes out like a hungry, angry baby.

    38. As for the latest simulcasts, I'm checking out Bungo Stray Dogs, Kiznaiver, The Lost Village, Rin-ne, and Super Lovers. So far I'm liking Bungo Stray Dogs and Super Lovers the most, but I really like what I've read of the Super Lovers manga, so I figured I'd like the show. I am still not sure about Rin-ne, I enjoy watching it to a point, yet I really don't care for the art style. I figured that I'd give the new season a shot anyway.

    39. Wow, I can't seem to live without anime and manga in my life. So happy to find this thread to discus manga and anime.
Last year I discovered new anime: Black Butler - "Circus" anime series, episodes featuring opposing Butler, "Fairy Doctor," "Goshick," Gundam series (I first watched years ago.)
Found on internet search a Live-action theater show that was filmed of "Black Butler." It was excellent, I enjoyed watching and plan to watch again.
So, I'm looking in internet searches for Live Action films of my favorite manga books.
I've saved the manga books I've enjoyed the most. Though I have't bought any new manga books due to lack of extra money.
Imagining my bedroom would have full shelves of Manga if I had the $!
Wondering what new manga and anime will be coming this year?
Please make any suggestions you wish about manga and/or anime you think I might enjoy.

    40. If you like Black Butler, I reckon you'd enjoy Fullmetal Alchemist or Death Note :') They both have fantastic storylines with some funny moments in them too, and the characters are just plain amazing Cx Plus there's two live action Death Note films ^^

Personally, just to name a few, I recommend Attack on Titan, Darker than Black and Vampire Knight.

    41. Seconding the Death Note recommendation. It is a truly outstanding series.
There's also a third live-action film that focuses on L (it's not as good as the two "main story" movies though) and a prequel novel that is amazing.

I really need to try Fullmetal Alchemist. I've heard great things about it.

    42. TimeyLimey, Hello! Yes, I had cable TV access in the past, the provider had special "on demand" free anime episodes. At that time I was fortunate to see several different anime. "Fullmetal Alchemist," "Death Note," "Darker than Black" are some of the anime I saw. It was great as I was able to see the anime series episode from beginning episodes.
"Attack On Titan" I don't remember, I'll do internet search of anime online, check out watching episodes of that anime. Thanks for suggesting.
"Vampire Knight' - I've read the manga books only & not seen the anime. Thank you for suggesting this series in anime.

"Black Butler" - "Book of Circus" anime has just been released with English Dub. That's the "English" best voice for the iconic butler. I've watched this series of episodes on internet video though it was in Japanese. Now I'm waiting for the opportunity to watch the series & hear the English Dub.

SaelaVe - Thank you for reminding me about Live Action "Death Note" movie. I have this on DVD but haven't had time to watch it as yet. I'm curious to see the Live Action actors in "Death Note," the movie of first anime episodes, how do they animate the otherworldly characters?

My fave "Fullmetal Alchemist" episode is when the 2 brothers are travelling together on a train and a disaster happens.

    43. It's been a while since I last watched any of the live action films, but if I remember correctly the Shinigami looked really excellent. They basic look exactly as they do in the anime and manga, just "more real". heehee

    44. Anime & Manga seem to give "*that lift of spirits*" when I feeling really stressed.
I'm in recovery from the flu & feeling tired easily, drinking fluids, I'm now able to drink coffee again.
The anime available to watch online really helps me when I feel ill or feel down.

Yes, I watched the 1st 2 episodes of "Attack On Titan." I like graphic artwork showing the town. Interesting idea of series of towns surrounded by tall stone walls to keep the "Giants - Titans" out. Maybe I was expecting something different?
I assumed (from playing FRPGs in past,) that each wall would have guard towers, ballistas, catapults, lines of archers, etc. ready for when the next Giant - Titan attack happened. Nope.
The start of the anime was interesting, but when the Giant Titan pulled the boy's mother apart & ate her, while the son was watching, that is when I knew this isn't my kind of anime.

So, I looked for other anime to watch & found "'Stein's Gate," a modern setting with theme of "mad scientist" & interesting time-travel theme. The entire series of episodes I watched in one afternoon - evening as the anime is fast-paced, interesting, unpredictable. Thank goodness the characters I grew attached to survived all the time threads twisting & turning to reach a satisfying ending.

Next, I'm watching "Macross" an anime series I've watched to watch for some time. Also, I enjoy watching the "Gundam" series.
Off to watch some anime as I drink OJ, glad that stomach flu is over.

Interesting ideas for the BJDs from the Anime & the Manga.

    45. Watch "Macross Frontier" episodes 1-4, attracted my attention was the various hairstyles, hair colors of the characters. Now, I'm inspired, thinking about how to create a wig for one of my male BJD like the main hero in the anime. The heroine female singing star has face like the Limwha bjd girl. Spot the large posters in the anime ads for singing star looks familiar like Limwha girls. Beautiful.
And now I'm thinking more wigs for my bjds.

    46. Besides bjds, anime/manga are another passion of mine. I read or watch something everyday. This winter my favorite anime was Erased. My all time favorites are Gintama, Death Note, Kuroshitsuji, Psycho-Pass and Darker Than Black. And I prefer to watch anime with subtitles. The only anime I have ever liked in English dub is Kuroshitsuji. J. Michael Tatum does an awesome job as Sebastian!

    47. I don't watch a lot of anime anymore, or read much manga, but I do have quite a few favorites even so. :) For manga, I've really been getting into A Devil and Her Love Song, Never Give Up, Mairunovich, and Hadi Girl, and some of my all time favorites consist of Godchild, Fruits Basket, High School Debut, Happy Hustle High, Alice 19th, and Beauty Pop. As for anime, I love Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Kuragehime, Kobato, Kimi ni Todoke (I actually want to read the manga for that series), Soul Eater, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun, Aikatsu, Tsuritama, Fruits Basket (though I do wish they would redo the series to follow the manga a bit better), Yu Yu Hakusho, Sailor Moon, Tamako Market, Ghost Hunt, xxxHolic, Sugar Sugar Rune, and Kaleido Star. Oh yeah! I almost forgot that I'm also currently watching the new Ace Attorney anime, as I'm a huge fan of the games!

    48. Currently I'm still trying to finish Tiger & Bunny and eventually get to the movie, which I have still in the cellophane. Kotetsu is my hubby!

I find myself re-watching Gangsta as I love those two tough goofballs. :whee: Such an excellent story and I can only hope that the creator's health is doing better so she can continue.

I'm more fond of the shows that I liked when I was a teenager, when Toonami was on after school and not at 4am now.

    49. Ashcat - "Kuroshitsuji" - "Black Butler" - "Book of Circus" anime has been released in English dub. I suspect J. Michael Tatum did English voice of the iconic butler.

    50. Sweet Serenade - I've enjoyed watching "Ghost Hunt" anime and bought the anime DVD episodes set.
Have you seen "XXXHolic" was made into "live action" episodes?
The live action version episodes are in English subbed, doesn't exactly follow the manga or anime episodes.
Interesting a super model/actress was cast as the live action "Dimensional Witch."

    51. That's awesome! :) Ghost Hunt is such a good series, I have it as well and I break it out every single time Halloween comes around. :3
And no, I wasn't actually aware that there was a live action series for XXXHolic! :O That's news to me, and even if it doesn't follow the anime or manga, it does sound like something really interesting to look into! :) Thank you for telling me about it! ^_^

    52. Sweet Serenade thanks for the suggestion to watch "Ghost Hunt" during Halloween week.
Halloween night I spent at my sister's house as my family does Halloween Big with their celebration. I sleep over at their house to help out with decorations, making food, and helping my Mom. Usually my family watches "Ghost Hunters' TV show," or one of their movies. However, I like to start watching Halloween DVDs in October before the end of the month.

What I mean about the XXXholic Live Action episodes is the characters are close to anime, similar storyline though not exactly the same. It was OK with me to see the Live Action version to see how they interpreted the manga + anime versions. They do have two actresses play the winged-demon-girls who live within the house. Sorry, I don't know if Live action version did all the anime episodes.

Also, anime "Ouran Host Club" was made into Live Action TV episodes, didn't follow exactly the anime & was OK as Live action kept the comedy situations, the fun of the club, funny happenings. The "Twins" were performed by identical twin Korean male actors. Rest of actors, actresses were Japanese. Subbed in English.

I love watching the anime, the Live Action versions I enjoy watching too.

    53. Oh I hope so! I'll check it out and get it on my Amazon wish list :3nodding:

    54. Ashcat-desu - I've not seen/heard the new "Black Butler" - "Book of Circus" as yet though I'm interested to see and hear just a "trailer" of this latest english dubbed edition.

Last night I watch anime episodes of "xxxholic" and was fascinated by Yuko's incredible, eccentric, historic and contemporary clothing she wears in each episode. I know its just an anime, though imagine her wardrobe/walk-in closet area. Must be awesome. Great contrast to the school uniforms the other characters usually wear.
Next, I want to watch the "Live Action" "xxxholic" episodes to see the clothing the human actress wears in those episodes. The actress they selected for "Yuko" is a former super model, tall, long lithe body, she looks the part, acts the part so well. Amazing!

    55. Welp, after all the time I spent not following anything, I'm slowly getting back into netflix's selection of anime, at least... I just started 'Yuki Yuna is a Hero' and binged a few episode with my siblings. So far I'm really liking it. There are ways in which it reminds me of Madoka (just watched that series recently, actually), but not quite so dark.

A big part of what sold me, though, was one of the protagonists being in a wheelchair. No magic fix when she becomes a magical girl, aside from having a floating support instead of her chair, just a seriously cool disabled magical girl, which is a nice thing to have out there.

    56. Anneko, I'm glad you have netflix to watch anime. Yuki Yuna sounds fascinating anime to watch as a protagonist has a disability. Interest me how she is cool magical girl as I walk with a Leki special cane (its also a weapon,) I have arthritis. Yes, I want to watch this anime series.

Stayed for the week with my family at my sister's house while the floors in my apt are being renovated (carpets taken up & replaced with floor tiles that look like wood.) While at my sister's house, they have wifi in the house, I was watching anime episodes. My niece happened to see what I was watching and asked about it. I told her I watch anime episodes, also live action series on my laptop. She was very interested so I wrote her a quick list of my fave anime. We have another new thing we share. Her mom doesn't care for it & that's OK. Her kids enjoy talking about their fave movies, etc. with me.

It will be good to be back in my apt again, to see the renovation work, to move all my furniture & stuff back, slowly get back to my life in my apt, and watching anime.

    57. Oh no problem! C'x So sorry I took ages to reply XD

    58. @Whippet My sister also uses a cane (my disability is usually an invisible one), so we are definitely enjoying seeing a disabled magical girl get to transform and fight alongside her friends.

You might be able to find it somewhere other than netflix... I don't know if it's on crunchyroll or not, though. Still, so far it's definitely one of my favorites.

    59. Late to the party, but I have been watching Hanasakeru Sheishonen and Psycho-Pass while I wait for new simulcast episodes this season. I also added Big Order and Tanaka-kun Is Always Listless to my watch list for the season for some reason, and I'm really glad I did because Tanaka-kun is my favorite now. I thought it seemed absurd before I watched it, but now I save it for last every weekend. :)

    60. Good to have you join discussion of our fave animes.
I've returned to my apt. Small fixes to renovation work, supervisor & apt manager walk thru today.
My washer is being replaced as its too old, worn out, throwing motor grease onto my last wash.
OK with me to have new washer that actually cleans my clothing, linens, etc.
After new washer installed, hooked up, I'll do "marathon" of washes, & I want to watch anime while I sort thru my laundry & fold cleaned laundry.
My brother-in-law put in password for my apt's encrypted WiFi account & now I can use my Nook to access internet & watch anime on my Nook when I want to.
