I remember there being a rather active anime & manga thread going during the last time brigadoon appeared. Let's do it again! What are you watching/reading? Any series you want to discuss? As for currently airing series I'm only watching Gangsta. I watched most of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya recently but kinda stalled and still have a few eps to go I think. I watched Eve no Jikan recently too. Reading: Kuroshitsuji, Super Lovers, Ten Count, Blue Sky Complex, a couple Kii Kanna series, and a few others as they release/are translated.
For anime, I'm keeping up to date with Ore Monogatari, Junjou Romantica 3, and Durarara!!x2 Ten. As for manga, there's way too much on my list but my eyes are always open for Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, Super Lovers, citrus, Honto Yajuu, and Haikyuu. I'm really embarrassed because 97% of these are BL. Now I'm starting to have a weeb complex lol. I was reading Ten Count, but Takarai Rihito put the series on hold months ago so I lost track on where I left... Can we talk about Ore Monogatari cuz I want a Takeo of my own, he's precious T__T
Started watching "Free" and I'm really enjoying it so far. I also started watching "Psycho Pass" but that's with my roommate so we're only a few episodes in. So far so good, though. I'm actually looking for recommendations. I've been out of the anime loop for a long while so I have no idea what to look for. My preference is for BL/slashable anime and anime with awesome female characters that aren't just around to show boob. Any ideas? From the list you mentioned, which ones?
Right now I'm in the process of watching Eureka Seven and Nana. I really like both of them so far, but I think I'm a little more interested in Nana. It feels so real, ya know? As for manga, I haven't read any in a long time, unfortunately.
I'm not really keeping up with too terribly much right now (sadly), but I did finally get started on watching Owari no Seraph/Seraph of the End after doing the first few episodes at Acen earlier this year, and I'm really enjoying it (even if the main character is the ultimate in shounen dumb)! I also read most of the new Heroic Legend of Arslan manga recently, and need to re-catch up on that one. (I'll admit, I started reading it mostly because the art is by the author of Fullmetal Alchemist...)
Haikyuu!! has eaten my soul alive and spit out the pieces. My god do I love this dorky volleyball anime/manga.
My most favorite manga of all time is Mars by Souryo Fuyumi. It was released in 1996, but still my all time favorite! I love shojo manga. I don't really read them much any more, but back in my teens I soaked them up! Now I watch live action Korean rom coms and dramas and get my drama fix that way.
This year I watched Sora no Method. I hoped that by the end it would come together, make sense and have a point, but it didn't. The environments, animation, and production were great, plus one gem of a character(!) but it all got wasted on a terribly written story. It was super disappointing! I hope the animation team gets picked up by a better writer! They sure deserve a redemption! I checked out a few episodes of RWBY, adore the main characters, but it hasn't drawn me in really. Not yet.. Honestly, no series has really reached me since the time I found Mushishi.. Maybe 5 years ago? That one sets the bar high.
I just finished re-watching Baka and Test and Angel Beats. Love manga but haven't read any new issues in years.
All of them are BL besides Haikyuu and citrus... Oh, as weird as this sounds Junjou Romantica has a really really good female character(in fact, she's my icon right now LOL). The story and art are really ech in the beginning volumes but the author learned to be more realistic with the latest chapters.
I'm currently watching Angel Beats for the first time and I recently finished the new sailor moon anime and uta no prince-sama season 3. Manga wise, I'm always buying the latest releases from the many series I enjoy such as Bleach and Kuroshitsuji and I've been buying the new english releases of He's my only Vampire, Kiss of a Rose Princess, and the Demon Prince of Momoochi house (all by the same artist).
I'm currently watching World Trigger, Arslan Senki, Gangsta, Akagami no Shirayuki-hime, Gintama, Aoharu x Kikanjuu, Shokugeki no Souma, Durarara!!x2 Ten, Working!!!, and Rokka no Yuusha. It's this season that skyrocketed Matsuoka Yoshitsugu into my number one favourite seiyuu (bypassing longtime faves Sakurai Takahiro, Miyano Mamoru, and Kaji Yuuki). And it's not even for one role in particular — it's certain performances like him squealing as Bell Cranel in episode 7 of Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka, or him squealing as Yukimura in episode 4 of Aoharu x Kikanjuu — he was just incredible I couldn't believe those sounds came out of a guy *lol* He was just really entertaining. Manga-wise, I'm reading Tokyo Ghoul:re, Bleach, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, Shingeki no Kyojin, Kamisama Hajimemashita, and Noragami. Re-reading Tokyo Ghoul and also just finished completing my Blade of the Immortal volumes.
Gintama LOL MY fav anime Others - Free (I own it), Tiger & Bunny (also own it) I haven't been really watching much of the new seasons (cause, KDramas....) Attack On Titan & Sword Art Online were good, & I like Psycho-Pass, Time of Eve, Kids on the Slope, Another. Classics - Rurouni Kenshin (own the manga series), InuYasha, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Bleach (own all the MANGA which is ongoing BTW)
ResinRenegade: If you like sci-fi, or anime that has a deep and thorough plot, I would highly recommend Psycho-Pass. It's one of the more recent anime that I have really enjoyed.
I'm currently watching Cowboy Bebop for the first time. I've wanted to watch the series for so long and finally caved in once I realized they had it on Hulu. As for my favorite shows, I really enjoy Haikyuu!!, Fullmetal Alchemist, Yu Yu Hakusho, Steins;Gates, and Clannad (I have pretty typical tastes now that I think about it...). The manga I've been keeping up with are Tokyo Ghoul:re, Kuroshitsuji, and Noragami. It's not a very popular manga, but I'd really recommend Noragami. It's probably the only manga series that I still get really excited for every month. c:
BerryPeachy, I didn't realize Bebop was on Hulu! I need to add that to my queue asap, since I've been wanting to rewatch it for quite a while.
Unfortunately, I just found out that only episodes 1-4 for the English dub are available (which is what I watch). They seem to have the entire show subbed, however.
The only manga I've been reading is Citrus. Everything else has come to an end. I'm looking forward to the next volume near the end of this month. I was watching Revolutionary Girl Utena (remastered) and Maria Watches Over Us season 4 subbed earlier this year, but my drive to watch subbed anime is waning these days. I think I only watched a handful of episodes of each. I haven't watched anything dubbed in a long time, either.
Did you see my reading list I have no shame. I haven't seen Ore Monogatari. I'll have to check it out. What genres are you into? Psycho-Pass... I keep hearing about it and it sounds like everything I'm about but watching the PVs and seeing it was written by the same person who did Madoka Magica (which also I kept seeing people say was awesome but just could not get into) I don't know. I really just need to give it a try sometime.
Mars is also my all-time favorite manga! No one I know has even heard of it. I do love a good kdrama, too. Lately I've been watching Shirayukihime and Owari no Seraph, as well as Rokka no Yuusha. Manga-wise, I'm really into Daiya no Ace, but I'm not keeping up on the anime.
I haven't kept up with anime or manga in a while sadly. I'd have to say my all time favorites are Madoka Magica followed by Mononoke. Madoka is really popular but Mononoke sadly isn't. I highly recommend it, the art is amazing and the stories are really interesting and often creepy. I've read a lot of manga online. Oyasumi Punpun is really good but sad and dark.
I've been binging on a number of older series lately. The newer ones I'm keeping up with weekly are Durarara!!, One Piece, and Junjou Romantica. As for older stuff, I'm watching 07-GHOST right now. Really looking forward to the Free! Movie that comes out later this year (though we likely won't see it until next year).
I really need to start looking into manga again.... Everything I used to read has come to an end, or is on hiatus (I'm looking at you Nana!). I'm starting to read all of my older series again, starting with Marmalade Boy. It is such a completely silly story, but it's to blame with getting me into manga... I'm really glad to see others on here that have read Mars! Lately my anime list is sort of on hold, because of my internet connection (Darn country data caps!), but I'm working on Tokyo Goul, and Claymore!
Is it just me? I don't watch or read anime/manga much at all anymore. Art? Gorgeous, enthralling, amusing, etc. But I got so tired of characters doing things, like - y'know - dying - that made no sense. It all started to feel - empty. Perhaps it's also why I've moved along, in dolls, towards Doll Chateau (I have 3 new ones I'm styling at the moment). I started to notice the anime type characters were - well - somewhat interchangeable. (Yes, I know that's a generalization). But it does seem to me the doll artists are moving towards sculpts with more character. I've found myself more satisfied with - other than anime/manga these days. I mean - I love 'Cowboy Bebop' too, but when a certain character leaves this mortal coil at the end - it just never worked for me. The "tragedy" seemed pointless - and years later it still does. By contrast, when Anna dies at the end of Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina" (another work I love) it was tragic, but not frustrating. What she did wasn't justified by Tolstoy, but he wrote with such understanding of human nature that one wasn't left being mystified. I ponder "Cowboy Bebop" years later, and am still frustrated by it. Not so with works such as Tolstoy or Dickens. That being said - "Naruto" has amazing heart and depth. I'll always love it.
Mars is amazing. one of the few ive re-read. Currently watching My Love Story and before that I finished Your Lie In April... which was amazing but super emotional.
boueibu and utapri have consumed my soul. send help. i'm rereading magic knights rayearth after umpteen years, along with jojo's bizarre adventure. and super-god masterforce is still my favourite, lots of great late 80s-early 90s seiyuus in there yup.
Samurai Champloo may be my favorite anime ever. I also love Cowboy Bebop, Samurai 7, Steins;Gate, Attack on Titan and Ghost in the Shell. I have a problem watching the series that go on for hundreds of episodes, they seem to lose focus after that long. I'm currently watching Binbo-gami ga! and Robotics;Notes. Really enjoying them! Linda S. galatia9
Currently following Charlotte and the new season of Durarara!!. I tried watching Shi-ki after reading the manga, but being the wimp I am when it comes to horror soundtracks ... I stopped after two episodes. Looking to rewatch all of Madoka Magica (My favourite of all time haha) and maybe Shinsekai Yori sometime soon.
I just finished Tokyo Ghoul a couple weeks back. I am now catching up with Hozuki no Reitetsu, Ore Monogatari, and I just started Psycho Pass. Next on my list is Blood Blockade Battlefront, Gangsta and Death Parade. Though my inner nerd is mostly focused on Yowapeda. I just got my Sakamichi Figma and Makishima Figma is on the way. And there are two movies in the makes? ~joy~
I'm kicking it old school and re-reading "Lone Wolf and Cub." There's not been much in the last several years that has caught my attention. In the anime department, Attack on Titan, the original run of Captain Harlock, Witchcraft Works, and that's really been about it. My son is finally at an age where I'm starting to expand his anime horizons, so I'm perusing my old favorites for things we can watch together. There's some Macross in my near future...
I haven't watched or read anything new recently since there hasn't been much released that fits my likes but I've started to re-watch a few personal favorites again. Natsume Yuujinchou will always be a favorite to watch again even though it makes me so sad and I started Rozen Maiden all over again. The only new one I'm looking out for is the new Junjou Romantica season. As for manga, the last one I read was Ozmafia. But I'm hoping to pick up some new titles soon.
I'm currently reading Magi, Dengeki Daisy, Kamisama Hajimemashita, Assassination Classroom, A Bride's Story and several others that I have more or less forgotten (or not). I have a bad habit of starting to read and watch tons of mangas and animes and forgetting half of them and later struggling to find the point where I was. As for anime, I'm watching classic Sailor Moon, Ore Monogatari (jesus it's pure gold), Hakuoki and Revolutionary Girl Utena, also I admit that I'm completely hooked on Makura no Danshi... ^^' When I find time I'm planning to start reading Shoukoku no Altair, and I'm waiting/hoping for Magi season 3 and Assassination Classroom season 2. And then there's a lot, like, a LOT of those "I might want to watch/read this", but I won't bother to list them all.
I am watching Sailor Moon (classic) kinda backwards. Started with Stars, then SuperS, then went to the beginning. Only part of S left to go. XD Watched a bit of Crystal. Will try to finish it when Classic is done. Lesseee....the only other animes watched recently were random ones chosen more or less because I thought one of the characters looked cute. No. 6 was okay (Shion very cute). Ending was kind of wtf. Sasami-san@ganbaranai was, uh...yeah. I wasn't the target audience (Sasami very cute, though). The last movies I watched were the Evangelion Rebuild ones. Really looking forward to the 4th one. o.o Favorites I plan to re-watch in the nearish future: Haibane Renmei, Gurren Lagann (Nia!), Fullmetal Alchemist (2003 version. Wanna fight about it? ) Haven't been reading much manga lately, though. Favorites are Clamp's Clover & CardCaptor Sakura, Yumiko Kawahara's Dolls, & .hack//xxxx (got rid of my PS2 forever ago but I have much nostalgia for the .hack games. XD)
Anime only - I admit to really liking Free! & I own it LOL Also Tiger & Bunny (own that too). That on top of the other stuff I mentioned.
I am crazy about shoujo manga and I do have a few collection of anime as well. I have been religiously keeping up with Skip Beat and Kimi ni Todoke manga series. I fell in love with the Vampire Knight, High School Debut, VB Rose, Nana, Emma, Tail of the Moon and Swan series. As for anime, I like Revolutionary Girl Utena, Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku among others. I just started watching Ouran High School Host Club though I already read the whole manga series. One of these days, I'm going to cosplay my dolls into my favorite manga characters. Just need to find time to do it.
I think my all time favorite manga was Please Save My Earth, it's the only one I still own all of, that and X and Tokyo Babylon. I guess it's the 90's stuff I am most attached to. I just don't hoard manga like I used to. My most recent manga purchase was Asumiko Nakamura's Utsubora. I love Nakamura's style.
I only get to watch anime on a limited basis during the Mondays at work, but Crunchyroll has a selection like 07-Ghost 3x3 Eyes, Utakoi, Magi, Severing Crime Blade. The only thing I don't like is when a very cool series falls apart at the end because it's a series that was made from a still-ongoing manga. Still watching and re-watching both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, and intend to get the full mangas, no matter the length. Especially Shippuden, I think it's the most poignant, involving, and satisfyingly character-driven series around. My manga purchases have otherwise died off. Mostly because the series I collected were abandoned by the English-language publishers before they completed. Then of course, there are the series that were abandoned by the manga-ka and not completed, like Yami No Matsuei....
I actually like READING the manga for SkipBeat & Ouran HS Host Club - but could NOT get thru the anime As for the TDrama SkipBeat, unwatchable despite Siwon & Donghae's best efforts (the fact that they both were DUBBED might have been a problem LOL) - I even turned the sound off but nope. But the manga were so much fun! Another fun manga like that is Hayate the Combat Butler
im not currently watching any because i finished umaru-chan and watch crunchyroll to keep up to date with japan theres ones being released but not sure if im gonna like them personally because 60% of them arent my style or arent comedic enough :p
I just finished watching Strawberry Panic. I have to get around to watching & finishing Cowboy Bebop though.
Hmmm, I'm currently rereading Karneval right now, I just love the mangaka's art~ And I'm dying to know what's exactly is Gareki.... I don't think he's a completely normal human. I'm not watching any anime right now.
Is it alright to revisit this thread? Since I'm out of all the good animes to watch(I'm honestly just lazy to try new shows), I'm rewatching Black Jack! It isn't helping that Volks released the series in a SD collab and they're really killing me with Pinoko :') I'm trying to like the Young Black Jack anime but it just feels so weird, especially with that new art style. The art reminds me of the 2012 reboot of Ai no Kusabi and that's why I can't take it seriously hahaha. But it's not bad, I would recommend it to first time watchers of the show, but only because it's the prequel :^)
I'm currently splitting my anime watching between Gurren Lagann, Rozen Maiden Traumend, and Kuroshitsuji's season 3. I'm currently reading 'Our Kingdom: Arabian Nights', and I just got both 'All You Need Is Kill' and 'Hatsune Miku: Unofficial Hatsune Mix'. Ryu
I read manga more than I watch anime since I can read it when I'm on public transportation. I'm really involved in the Haikyuu and the Tokyo Ghoul fandom. I'm in the middle of a "catch up" binge of a bunch of manga that I've been meaning to finish specifically One Punch Man and Kuroko no Basket. A really good series to try is Odette, its about a girl who's boyfriend has the head of a cat! Its only got 8 chapters right now so its easy to get started. I really love awkward romances and another I really love is Fujiyama-san wa Shishunki, its a high school romance where the main character falls in love with the strongest tallest girl in school. It's a bit like Ore Monogatari but more nuanced.
I just finished watching Gakkougurashi! (School-Live!) and I loved it so much! The characters are to die for, especially Miki en Kurumi. If you love watching a show with nice art, cute characters and a nice twist on the slice of life-genre then this anime is the way to go. I'm currently reading the Gakkougurashi! manga because it has more episodes than the anime at the moment. I hope they continue the manga and make a second season for the anime as soon as possible. As for anime, I'm currently watching 'Plastic Memories' and so far I've cried twice. Very curious to see how the plot works out in future episodes.
I used to watch a lot of Anime in middle and high school but at the moment the only one I really like is shokugeki no souma, even though the foodgasms make me really uncomfortable as I dislike ecchi and 'overboobed' weak female characters... Other than that I don't really read manga except for the occasional BL online. I really enjoyed Love Stage!!! and Elektal Delusion (Also really excited for boruto the movie because, seriously, naruto was my childhood)
I read way too much manga. The ones I'm currently up to date on are Dungeon Meshi, Assassination Classroom, Sengoku Youko, and Genshiken to name a few. Anime wise, I'm in the middle of Selector Spread Wixoss, thinking about starting Captain Earth as well or rerun through Kiddy Grade.
I recently started watching DuRaRaRa!! I remember reading the light novels when they came out YEARS ago, but I remember very little about the plot. I'm liking the anime a lot, so far. It's definitely got a lot of interesting things going on.
Please tell me that someone here reads/waches(ed) Toriko?! I am madly in love with that series (and my love for Coco is probably unhealthy, lol). If you have not read or watched it yet, you should check it out. It's hilarious, action packed, and filled with sexy anime men.
Anything CLAMP, literally almost every CLAMP creation, is an anime or manga I am into. Otherwise, I can get into lots of things here and there, lately though: Naruto (I know, snore lol), Rozen Maiden (Original since we are a doll forum no?...), Love Live!, Uta no Prince-Sama, Earth High Defense Club Love, Game Mangas from various games. I am looking forward to reading Gangsta, and though I have watched the anime, I am looking forward to reading Tokyo Ghoul as well soon!
I've just discovered why "sports anime hell" is called "sports anime hell" lol I can't believe how hard and how fast I fell in love with Diamond no Ace and it's consumed me for the last three weeks lol. Free, Haikyuu, and Kuroko no Basket didn't grab hold of my heart the way DnA has and I've been lost and have been consuming as much DnA media as possible and trying really hard to stay away from the merchandise because I know once I start there goes my money (which is terribly needed for the dolls—and I just jinxed myself because now I can't stop thinking about dollifying my favourites Miyuki and Eijun and afholgdfjfjkdfjsk).
At the moment I'm currently watching the Idolm@ster: Cinderella Girls because I saw Mio Honda's Dollfie Dream and the other ones and if I could I would so get at least Ranko's because so far, she's my favorite. But so far, I'm at Episode 10 so that may or may not change. I think it's right up there with Kantai Collection and Puella Magi Madoka Magica in my list of favorites.
Hmm I'm currently watching One piece, Durarara and tokyo ghoul , Natsume book of friends and I plan on starting Gintama for manga saiyuki , dragon knights ,one piece and whatever bl manga I can find On that note anyone have any good bl recommendations?
EEP! How could I forget my favorite: One Piece! I'm all caught up, I even found some of the really old eps and specials and watched those as well. *snip* I've also been reading some older BL...and "other stuff" lately. If you like HS romance, 'Our Kingdom' is good, exciting and funny in spots too. I also liked 'Sekaichi Hatsukoi' and 'Junjou Romantica.' Both are funny and sweet. JR is first, and SH is in the same universe. The anime for both are really good too. And of course, 'Gravitation' where my SN comes from! Ryu
