Photo Resizing for Doll Photography Competition​

As I have received a few questions about sizing, here's a quick explanation that might help contestants understand what we require to print your photos in good quality.

The program I'm using for resizing my photos is Adobe Photoshop. I am resizing my photo without cropping it.

Originally, my photo is 2448x3264 pixels and 13.6x18.133 inches at 180 pixels/inch. It might vary for most but the resizing should work the same.

At the Resolution field, I change it to 300 pixels/inch.

Then, under Document Size, I change the Width field to 6 inches. If Constrain Proportions has been ticked as shown above, the Height field will automatically change to 8 inches.

So your final picture will be 1800x2400 pixels and 6x8 inches at 300 pixels/inch. ^_^

If you're worried that the size might be wrong, do a test print of your picture to check the size and quality.

Just a note to everyone, I'm trying to fill up the photography talk on Sunday, because it seems like Amanda Keyes will not be able to make it due to health reasons. Anyhow, if I can't fill it up, it will either remain blank or we'll have a restringing tute. Good thoughts go out to Amanda!

 

I'll be there both days of course. ^_^; The thing is...I think a lot of people will try to make it for Saturday now because of the talks, but I also think that a lot of people will try to make it on Sunday too because of the competition prize giving. In short...I've no idea. O_O Sorry I'm not much of a help...

Heh, I would love it if Tash could give the talk on both days but she's pretty busy so I don't want to bug her to speak on Sunday as well... >_<

BUMP OF DOOM!

The closing date for the doll cosplay competition has been pushed back to the 20/08/08. If you have sent me submissions already, I will accept it if you want to still work on your cosplay and submit your entries again later.

However, the doll photography competition closing date cannot be pushed back to the 20th as we need time to print out your photos. I will accept entries if they're a day or two late because we're being a bit lenient, but no more than that.

You may also submit your photographs on the day of the competition by printing your own photographs. However, we highly discourage this as you may be at a disadvantage compared to the other contestants if the quality of your physical photographs are of lower quality

Come on people, get your entries in!

Bump to note that the face-up demo by Mk13 (Yi) will be moved up to 1PM on Sunday as Amanda Keyes will not be able to make it for the doll photography talk! The schedule will not reflect the change as we have already sent it out for printing. XO We will post the amended schedule up at the location though.

Also, I was busy last night getting the Jaimedoll prizes ready for display and I am absolutely blown away by how cuuuuuute they are! I can't stand it! Little bloomers and little hats and those ickle, ickle boots! *keels over*

One last reminder...if anyone wants to submit physical photos for the doll photography competition, then you have to bring it in and hand it over to me before 1PM on Saturday!

Note: The dolls are new and were dressed by me for display during Animania. After dressing them and snapping a few quick photos for this promotion, they have been returned into their boxes where they'll remain until the event!

As for food, we have Japanesey type food like takoyaki, pancake thingies, pastries, cakes, pocky and drinks! There might be more but I'm not in the food section so I don't know exactly what we have for our selections. ^_^; *looks at ma-e, our food person*

Hello all!

First of all, I would once again like to thank our sponsors J'aime-doll, Fairyland, Celga and Nobilitydoll for their amazing prizes! Thank you! Without your support, this wouldn't have been possible!

As promised, I would like to present our winners of our competitions. We had great entries for both competitions and the results were rather close!

Photography Competition

Quite a number of photos were sent in and they were all of impressive quality.

The photography competition was judged by one photographer, one photographer-doll-owner and one doll-owner-amateur-photographer.

The criteria for our judging were as follows:
1. Creativity: Fulfillment of the theme 'Nature' in a creative and inspired manner (plus for good usage of props).
2. Posing: Dolls posed in a natural way that does not look awkward or too stiff (creative and interesting poses a plus).
3. Focus: Utilised to effectively draw the eye to a chosen part of a picture and depth of field
4. Lighting: Good usage of lighting, natural or otherwise.
5. Exposure: Good brightness and contrast in the photographs, good white balance
6. Composition: Proper composition or interesting viewpoints

The weightage of each criteria was different and there was a heavier emphasis on creativity and posing.

Doll Cosplay Competition

I was pretty much bowled over by our entries for doll cosplay! The amount of effort and details paid to the cosplay outfits, props and face-ups were amazing.

The criteria for judging were as follows:
1. Outfit: Accuracy of main outfit (necklaces, hats, shoes, pins, etc included)
2. Wig: Accuracy of wig (colour and style)
3. Eyes: Accuracy of eyes (colour and style)

Extra points
4. Mods: Includes accuracy of face-up, tattoos, mods, etc.
5. Accessories: Extra accessories such as weapons, wings, etc.
6. Posing: Interesting live posing.

Weightage for the criteria were not evenly distributed and there was heavier emphasis on outfits, mods and accessories.

1st Prize goes to Loki for the Advent Children Cloud cosplay!


2nd Prize goes to Siera for the Roxas of Kingdom Heart's cosplay!


3rd Prize goes to Jennifer for the D.gray-man Rhode Camelot cosplay!

It wasn't a perfect event where everything went as planned but I do believe I tried my best! This is our first time hosting doll events and we were at a new venue as well so I am aware of the issues we had and hope that in the future, I can rectify them and improve on our events. Hello Siera! Ack, brain spasm! I'm so sorry for the mistakes! I had to tally the judges' points on Sunday (since Sat night was spent too long over some clearing up and impromptu debriefing) and prepared the powerpoint of the winners on Sunday too. T_T Then I posted all the results based on the powerpoint without turning on my brain. >_<
