Angelsdoll Discussion PART 5

Mar 30, 2012

    1. Thank you for sharing that @Blankqueen !

    2. @Blankqueen thanks for the comparison picture. He is a big guy! I'm hoping he'll be an OK size with my 63cm girls. I'm not too worried about clothing. I'll sew for him, or just leave him nekkid like most of my poor dolls. ;)

    3. I was checking DoA's wikia about Angelsdoll and there was a list of resin options based on Volks resin, but I think they are no longer avaliable (?)

      Help XD

    4. You're welcome T4124 and Alewife! ;) Heheh! Yes, nekkid might be this boy's fate unless he lands in the hands of an eager seamstress. He has a fine figure though, so no harm done. Hehe!

Alik, you're right. This is a whole new Angelsdoll now. I'm fairly sure the wikia is outdated. They have a new resin tone chart here: Skin Color Comparison

    5. Unacceptable: why the girl body is so short and outdated, while the boy body is so tall and follows the latest trend? :vein

    6. @$abbatha, (HI!! Miss you! *HUGS*) let's not forget he/AD's just starting over again. Maybe the AD70 squad will have girls in it too one day. I agree, that girl is like... 10 year-old daughter size compared to the tower of hunk there, but she IS a small 60 and he IS a 74cm. Wow. I don't think I'll have more than one of each at this rate, but I do have some fairly short girls and tall guys that are not couples, but I need the height differences. I am eager to see what 2017 brings AD!

@Alewife, I would recommend using some apoxy on the inside of the string channel to seal him together again so it's less visible. My first attempt at this I apoxied on the outside (had no idea what I was doing) and now regret it. The sawing itself isn't that bad, especially on legs. A neck is much harder- hand cramps! You may also be able to do an elevator effect if you want him taller by sanding edges and stuff and just taping or low-temp hot gluing the pieces in place depending on his clean your hack job is. The more you rotate the piece, the cleaner it will be. Then you have removable pieces! Or you can do the other way which is saw off just one piece and reshape the ankle to work. I just do a full slice and butt up the ankle to the shorter shin piece. I love their light tan! Gratz!

@Blankqueen, thanks for that pic!! I definitely need to take him down a peg, but his bulk is nice- I didn't want another super slim body that tall. Good for hybriding, I think. I am excited to try things out with him! I was gonna say yes, ask them for a pic definitely! But you did and I'm so happy you did! *plotsplots* I need at least one to see how he works... and get jointed hands... and a perma-30% off...

I really wonder if their tan would match the old DZ tans and current Impl tan... OOOoohhh... I'll ask for a sample when I order.

    7. @chalyss thanks for the modding tips! I'll especially want the apoxy as invisible as possible because he's tan. I'm thinking your ankle-reshaping method is the way to go, but I'll see when he gets here.

I might also be able to answer your question about old DZ tan. I don't have a DZ exactly, but I have a head that matches old DZ. So it would at least give us a hint!

@$abbatha I'd like to see a closer size match too, but AD always seems willing to please. Maybe they'll make us a taller girl, or shorter guy, eventually. :)

    8. @Alewife when at first i've seen the box opening and review made from AlisonVonderland, if i remember correct, i wrote a mail to Ad asking them to create heeled feet, which are still missing, and also add some heights to girl body, i've also tried to suggest them where add some height, but they didn't listened me at all, infact still heeled feet are missing.
What sadden me most is that girl body is awesome, really..but i have no use for it due to total heigh..my boys are almost 72cm i have no use of such shorter girl body.
I got recently another AS toned body and with head on at least it reachs a global height of 63cm, not surely this tower but with heels i can reach 64/65cm..this body doesn't even owns heeled feet..

@chalyss thanks hun, glad to read you back too. Honestly i do not mind about a short boy body, i would love to find finally a taller girl body, not so sure if AD will make a new body, at this stage i know company so well and to me their attitude is the same as in past, of course i hope to be proved wrong.

    9. Here is what I mean but sawing a slice out:
      [IMG]neck reduction

      Here:
      https://flic.kr/p/EZM93w

      and:
      https://flic.kr/p/DXoZXJ

The last one shows the ankles done. It also shows I had never used apoxie before and assumed it was much easier to sand down. I may have to add the ankle pieces back in though. THAT will not be fun. But yeah, set the apoxie inside with a brush; I think that'd work much better. And make sure its smooth so it doesn't cut into the strings. Or again, bypass all that and just cut and reshape. I wanted to ability to put the height back in if needed. I doubt I'd need that with Evan/Aerek though.

      • x 1
    10. Thanks, @chalyss , that's very helpful! Wow, what ambitious mods on your guy! I do have some apoxie around somewhere, and it might even still be usable. But I'm thinking I'll just try the ankle-cutting route. That sort of work goes fast with my trusty Dremel. Power tools, baby!

    11. yyyyyeah... he's gonna take a lot of time. So much to do for him! I think a good amount of his original frame will eventually be dremeled out so I can widen him. He is Mister Project, for sure! Your mod will be much easier. *L*

UPDATE! I did write to AD and asked about their future plans, doll plans for 2017. I was told they will be making "all sizes quickly". So it's just a matter of time for shorter boys and taller girls. :) YAY!

    12. I really hope that for good AngelsDoll will made taller girls cause honestly spotting comparison pic difference in height is very appalling... :sweat

    13. That's very hopeful news! I'll probably end up sorry I didn't wait for a shorter guy. :sweat

    14. @Alewife, yeah I'm kind of worried about that too now... *L* BUT I'll get 30% later and some jointed hands, so... maybe a kind of win.

    15. The 30% and jointed hands will be worth it. :)

    16. I love Evan's jointed hands very much! So i ordered him in 3 days after the event was announced. Very excited to see my boy in light tan XD

    17. Light tan looks gorgeous! I wanted to get him in that tone but the guy he'll be is actually not that skin color, but the high-peach NS. Phooie! Spam pics ya'll!

    18. *LOLOL* Yes!! I do have plans for their tan and violet now...

    19. Wow~ Violet is gorgeous too!!

Hope someone will buy him in this skin tone X9

    20. I will eventually! *rubs hands together and plots*

    21. That's great news chalyss! Thanks for sharing~ I'm still debating whether to get Evan or not, especially since I truly believed I didn't need any new BJDs (especially tall ones!). But I still have clothes... and I've been looking for a doll with his facial traits for years now... so I think I might just end up getting him with the gorgeous violet skin tone. Anyone has seen pictures of this color (aside from the head on the chart) ?

      • x 1
    22. I dont think anyone's gotten one yet in violet... or if they did, they havent shown it here!

    23. Thank you! It is a rather new color anyway...

    24. I was just starting to wonder if I should contact Angelsdoll regarding the big guy I ordered, when I got an email from them this morning. They are modifying some parts to make a "more perfect doll", and expect to start shipping on Jan. 23. :celebrate:cheer

    25. So did you ever order him in the violet tone? I am dying to see that color in an owner pic!

@Alewife, I got a notice too! I am so excited to see owner pics of this handsome Evan!

    26. I'm excited too! Won't be long now! Of course when he arrives, he won't have a thing to wear. He'll fit right in with the rest of the crew. ;)

    27. Cool~ I can't wait to see! In the end, after way too much tergiversation, I didn't order mine... I found some pictures of the doll's creation on AD's website and I thought that, for my tastes, his head seemed big for his body. I hope I won't have too many regrets when I see pics of your guys!

    28. @Lochness I never noticed that part of their website. I love seeing WIP pictures, so thanks for pointing it out. He does have a big noggin, but it's such a pretty noggin.

      • x 1
    29. Those workroom pics are the reason I started drooling and checking the site every day until he went live for sale! I found him realistically proportioned (we've gotten used to heads that are actually too small for their bodies in this hobby, so a head the right size looks funny) and I think what I'll regret is not waiting for a slightly shorter body to come around. *L* But I love the lines on this one and I am willing to mod him a tad shorter! I actually like his proportions better in the mock ups I did when he loses a couple of centimeters. Beautiful sculpting job all around on this guy!

But I bet anything he'll be offered again, on sale too, in the future!

I take that back- on the page 3 he looks in proportion. Page 2 his noggin does look a smidge too big. I wonder which it'll be then?
70 Class body and Jointed hands making. -2-

Oooh, flipping back and forth, on page 3 some bulk was added and the body more defined. Wow, that makes a difference!

    30. Yes, if he'd stayed like the original on page 1, I might not have fallen for him as much. :)

His noggin looks bigger from the back. Maybe it's just the shape of the head cap?

    31. It could! Pictures flatten images so it could make the roundness of the dome look wider. It still doesn't look at peanutty huge as an Impl head, but those cover well with a wig so I am hoping Evan's does too!

    32. Yeah... looking back at the pics, I might have made a mistake not ordering him. His body / head proportions look really nice on the more recent pics... :doh

I just don't understand why dolls always need to have such a high forehead. The artist anatomy books I had as a kid taught to draw an oval for the head, then add a horizontal line right in the middle of the oval to indicate the position of the eyes. I checked with actual human beings, and these proportions seem to correspond to most people. Dolls, on the other hand, usually keep children's proportions, with the eyes set lower on the head. I've been told it's because the wigs look better that way... I wanted to give Evan slicked back hair, but with his higher forehead, my drawings made him look silly. Still, I hope I won't regret not ordering him too much... :sweat

      • x 1
    33. I'm not a fan of the tall forehead look either, or the oversized headcap that some of them have. Minimees used to be bad that way. I'm skeptical about the wig theory, unless it's because they stay on better?

    34. That's what I've heard- that the peanut shape helps it stay on better. Not sure I agree, but it's as good a reason as any!

    35. Personally I'd rather just use Velcro!

      • x 1
    36. *LOL* Riiight? I dunno, seems to be a fad. The head shape, not velcro. ;) Velcro is PROVEN!

    37. Hahaha! I personally use a wide broccoli elastic to keep the wigs on... XD

    38. Those work great too, and you can fire them at people who make fun of your dolls. ;)

      • x 1
    39. HAH!!! *LOLOL*

    40. IMO the tall forehead, @$avage used to say that is like an bulb head , it's just a side effect of working with 3d rendering, if all of you notice also IMPLdoll makes heads in this same way.

    41. Interesting! I didn't know it came from being a 3D sculpt! It IS a bulb head! maybe they're having very bright ideas! *L*

      • x 1
    42. That is interesting! I didn't know it was a side effect either.

      @chalyss bright ideas. :lol:

    43. Hihihihihihi! :thumbup

    44. It's 24th, Did anyone get shipping notification? ><

    45. Not yet! :)

    46. Mine is on layaway, so hafta pay him off first. I am looking forward to seeing everyone's new dolls though!!

    47. Just curious if anyone has any tan dolls and have noticed any eh bleaching? My doll is not in direct sunlight but I just noticed this today when I was changing his clothes. The v mark on his neck is where he was wearing a necklace, his bottom half, back and palm are all darker. I have tons of dolls and quite a few in tan and none of them look like this. Is this anything to do with maybe the resin they use?

    48. I own almost 2 old AngelsDoll male dolls in vivid color and body parts are all the same color, really don't know if this could help cause tan is way darker :)

    49. Vivid color seemed to be more stable than their old tan. I have a couple of the old tan AD heads or full dolls and yes, they will green and yellow. And they will do it with lines like that. I bought a girl Avatar head from the MP and where she'd been painted in dark colors, her mustard yellow face was more the original tan.
      [IMG]WIP by chalyss, on Flickr

I have a full doll Hyang in dark tan and she's starting to green a bit too. I have an Ivan in Vivid and I don't think he's greened at all- I keep watching. He seems safe. So I'd say it's the old tan resin they used. It was unstable; red color molecules just act differently than other colors due to them being bigger. I know it's true for hair color and it's held true for the older tan resins as well. Here's hoping their new tan is better.

    50. I got a Close in Vivid when he was first released. Loved the color, but he started turning green after only 6 months. I still like him though. He is a beautiful sculpt.

    51. I've receive my Evan this morning and he's un assemble. I am very disappoint in this company ; _ ;. He broke promise many time and sent the doll unassemble, no discount coupon. I ordered dolls from various company and Angelsdoll is my worst experience...

    52. Aw no! Not what I wanna hear out of the gate. How odd though- my Lucias were both assembled, no problems. I did have some communication problems though; I made sure to repeat I wanted white skin several times. He kept saying I wanted NS. I kept correcting him. He sent NS. *L* I thought that might happen so I really tried to avoid it. He'll fix it when I get the Evan though. One more payment on mine. How is the sculpt at least?

    53. He's fine as promo pic but I'm still very sad ; _ ; . Just sent e-mail to angelsdoll and wait for his respond.

    54. He answer me like this...

"If you feel disappoint, I will do as you want. Tell me anything.
      I understand your said."

      What should I do?

    55. Yep he is pretty old and it was tan that I ordered I don't recall a vivid color so glad it wasn't just my doll, mystery solved kinda sucks but nothing I can do at this point I still like him, I just put his necklace back on so its not so noticeable I have the avatar girl as well but got her in the normal resin...still trying to find the right body for her. I have her on a Luts SDF right now but don't like it so much so still searching.

    56. @Kitty Blue that's some pretty bad greening. :( I have a head in vivid (Castiel minimee) and I don't think it has changed color. The inside is still the same color as the outside.

@panicle very sorry to hear you're having troubles, but at least it gives me hope I might get a shipping notice soon!

    57. @panicle- what would make you feel better? It was that he was unstrung that you were unhappy? Was there anything else? Color was wrong? OH, were the jointed hands strung at least? Those would be such boogers to string!

@Kitty Blue , I know you're nothing close to a novice in the doll hobby, so I am mildly surprised you haven't found a body you like for Iseul yet. What features are you looking for? I really like the Twigling Stargazer body, personally, which is what mine is on. Vivid skin was like Real Skin for Iple, which also greens.

    58. Well tbh head of Baku in vivid turned gray but cause i forgot his head under direct sunlight, anyway such sorry to hear that many had this issue, i feel lucky that nothing like this happened to both my vividdolls.
Talking about resinc greening in time @chalyss i had the first Heliot version head in cream color by Soom, and he turned zucchini green into a year or so...:ablah:

    59. @$avage, zucchini green! Holy cow! *L* I've heard of Beauty Green (Luts) but that's like... he Hulked out! Wow! What do you do with that? Can it be undone via Oxy bath or sanding or is it just... set? Baku was a great sculpt too! I wonder if he can do a renewal on those old heads and resell them that way..? I don't know what happened when the partnership split and who got what, but obviously one got to keep the name!
