Angell-Studio Baby discussion part 1

Oct 19, 2007

1. Good luck Stephanie. I hope they'll refund you the money.

2. They won't. :(

3. Oh no! :( Did they say why?

4. I'm sorry to hear that, Stephanie /:

5. Because there was a miscommunication between us about the face up and they thought I OKed it when I didn't really. They offered to repaint it if I send it back. I asked them if they will pay shipping so we'll see.

Though I honestly don't know if I trust them to do it right this time either. I had asked to add more color to the lips (that's what bothered me most) and they said the artist said no because s/he thought it would ruin the look... although that's what the Mousse faceup has and I wanted that. x-x So it seems the artist doesn't want to do what the customer wants. Such a pity, I paid what, $60 for that? x-x

6. I hope everything goes well for you Stephanie :( My heart goes out to you!
Well I actually can't blame them for the miscommunication because their main language spoken is Chinese. Because the last time I emailed them in English, even I got really confused and I am used to reading tons of broken English, I guess.
Next time, I'm considering emailing them in Chinese lol.

7. ....I'm wondering if it's just because it's hard to redo details on already sealed/glossed layers of the faceup.

8. zorua: That's true. Darn these language barriers!

King: Which I understand, I usually do my own face ups... but considering the face up is so vastly different from what I asked... The Mousse face up has more pink blush, has purple eye shadow, and pink lips. The face up I got has pale blush, black eyeshadow, and neutral lips. It's just... not at all the same... which is sad since I paid $60 for that face up. Only thing different I asked for was black eyebrows and lashes, it shouldn't have changed the whole face up.

Either way, they said they won't pay shipping; I'd have to pay to ship the head to them, then they'd pay to send it back. I paid enough for her as it is and with the way the artist said s/he wasn't willing to change it because s/he didn't think it would look right... I don't trust that they'd do what I want this time either. *sigh* I guess I"ll consider it a loss and just know better not to pay for face ups from companies again... or anyone really. I paid someone for a face up once and they got it all wrong too. I'm too jaded... I"ll just do my own for now on. :(

9. I'm so sorry about all this, Call Me Stephanie. Do you at least still love your girl?

10. I'm sorry about your experience, Stephanie! It's weird too, because I have been around six AS face-ups irl and I never had this problem, each of them was more beautiful than the next. I guess maybe something has changed since I last ordered from them a year ago. I hope you love your girl anyway, she's such a a sweetie!

11. Awww >: I'm sorry to hear about all that Stephanie ;;-;; Hope you'll love her a lot after you change it yourself. I usually don't commission people for my face-ups, but the ones my friend has or ones that came with company face-up, I was always very satisfied with ;;-;;

12. She's still adorable. I think I'll add color later but I'm pregnant right now so it'll be a while before I can do that.

Oh well, life lessons sadly. I think I'm more disappointed in how they handled it.

13. I'm glad you still love her. And congrats on your incoming baby! :D

14. Thanks. :)

15. Oh my, congratulations on your incoming baby!

16. Hello! I've only recently gotten into collecting BJDs, but this little girl caught my eye and won't let go. X3 I was wondering if anyone had multiple Angell-Studio dolls and could show me the skin color differences? If it wouldn't be too much trouble? ^.^;

17. Hi there! Cassie is amazing, I want one too! I have four AS dolls in different skin colors, but they are various ages and it's generally quite difficult to catch the differences on photo. But I think there are some photos of the different resin colors on the AS website somewhere, maybe you can search there?

18. Then, may I ask which is your favorite? ^^

19. Certainly :) My favorite is the solid butter, it's closest to other companies' normal skin and it's a lovely peachy tone!

20. Hey akutenshi7! I helped you search for the skintone comparisons from the AS website ^v^
Cassie's sculpt is really adorable!

[IMG]

21. I think I like the butter most myself. ^^ But what is the difference between the translucent and solid? Can you really see light through it or is it that you can see joins or something?

Thank you Zorua! Is the "pink milk" the new light pink?

22. I'm sorry but I'm not so sure either! I've only had dolls in the solid skin tones so far :(
I think the translucent colours have more of a glowy look in pictures? Does anyone with both kinds of skin types have any pictures to show?

23. Well, I have great difficulty getting the difference to show up, but I do have this pic of different color AS dolls. The small girl is Bella, she is in translucent white. My big girl Sarah (her name was Midori back then) is in the solid white and Julian, my Jeffrey, is in solid butter. Hope this helps a bit...

24. Translucent is like the french resin in that it's got a certain glow to it. I love it. It's the reason I went with AS to begin with. Not many companies offer the french resin anymore.

25. Very true! IslandDoll and Magical Angel offer it too, but not that many others. It lets the light through very nicely. Sadly, it does yellow a bit quicker than the solid colors.

26. 1) You have beautiful dolls. ^-^ 2) Thank you so much! That does help. ^^ I find myself drawn to the butter color of resin. It really does look rich, like butter. X3

Do you find that your dolls are yellowing faster? And do you know if it yellows evenly or unevenly?

Um, same questions to you as well! ^-^ Have you noticed your french resin dolls yellowing and is it doing so evenly?

Thank you very much!

27. @Akutenshi - Thanks! :) Mine do yellow a bit quicker than my other dolls, both my AS French resin dolls and my two IslandDolls. My solid resin dolls from AS are a year younger than the French ones, so it might not be a fair comparison. But both my solid butter boy and my solid white girl haven't yellowed at all (had them for a year) and if I remember correctly my translucent ones had yellowed by then. And no, it's not even, sadly. The parts that are exposed to the light are a lot more yellow than the parts that aren't. It's like with humans, when you go in the sun the exposed parts will get a tan much quicker. The rest of them is sorta mellower than when they first arrived, but their faces and necklines and such are definitely yellower than the rest of them. I do have to add though, that for the first year and a half in this hobby, my dolls were out in the daylight a lot more than they are now (not direct sunlight as such, but normal daylight, whereas now they stay in a room with closed curtains).

28. I just got my girl so I can't comment on the AS yellowing... but I had a Dollmore Narsha in FR and she was yellowed... but it was even. And it was beautiful. I had to sell her for financial reasons and rebought her later on but she was in a normal color... I didn't love her nearly as much. I just love the FR so much.

29. Yellowing unevenly doesn't have to do with the type of resin, it has to do with each doll, as well as what you make them wear and the exposure to the sun. If you bring out a gal in a t-shirt and short pants, you can be sure their arms and legs will yellow faster.
I don't know how fast translucent resin yellows, but the extra hands my Yuma came with are pretty white compared to the rest of him, so I'd say they don't yellow as fast if you take really good care not to expose them to sunlight.

30. I did it! I ordered Cassie in solid butter skin with face-up. X3 Now the waiting begins! Thank you everyone for your help!

31. Ooooh! Congrats! :XD: I can't wait to see her!

Also, to add to the yellowing conversation-- I've had Momo (translucent butter) like... 9 months now and I haven't noticed any yellowing. But she hasn't been in direct sunlight really... or been outside... lol :lol:

32. I think I can comment on the yellowing lol.

My Vera is in translucent white (I just discovered, oh man I'm so slow) and she's really yellow (see my profile picture!). Which could be my fault since I had put her next to the window a few years back as I had nowhere else to put her.
Compared to my Momo, who's a solid suntan skin, she looks like a peeled banana.

Does anyone know any good deyellowing tips?

33. I've had my transluscent pink boy for.. oh... a month and then some, now... and I think he's yellowed some. Not 100% sure on that, though. He seems to have taken a slightly yellowish undertone. It's very subtle, if not my imagination, like i said... not 100% certain. The doll itself was cast long before I had it in my hands, though, and the sun has been CHASING him. I have two windows in my room and I moved the doll shelf a few weeks ago, having noticed some sunlight reaching the dolls during certain points of the day. I see the sun creeping up on the dolls at noontime now too. Not sure where to put this shelf. Ricepaper covered windows w/ no curtains at the moment.... blocks the neighbors view from the outside in, but hardly blocks light and UV rays. I'm not afraid of what he'll look like yellowed.

34. Thanks so much, mysteriousracerj! I'll definitely check those links out!
My Vera's yellowing is really bad, she looks like sliced cheese.

35. Sometimes just wiping off the MSC/sealant is a huge help. I've had a few dolls that looked reallllly yellow but it was the MSC that was yellowed.

36. ^ I'll gave that a try when I have the time. I want to get her a new faceup anyway!

37. Be sure to let us know how all of that goes!

38. Haha, deyellowing her will take a while.. I'm swamped with tests and exams! I will probably only have time to do so in June.
Bumping up this thread!! It's been so dead lately :(

39. Zorua, I bought a white skin doll from the MP (he's OT for this thread) and he was pretty yellowed. I cleaned him up with a magic eraser and then a bath in rubbing alcohol, then more magic eraser. I had heard that rubbing alcohol stops the yellowing process chemically, but I'm not sure if it actually helped or if my magic eraser scrub down did the trick. When I was finished, he looked a lot better.

I didn't know that french resin yellows faster than regular resin. I sort of wish I could have gotten my Gus in solid butter instead of translucent, since he's on a solid resin body right now. Even after I requested his head in solid, they sent me the french resin anyway. It's still a pretty good match, though and I love him to bits.

40. He's adorable. :)

41. He is such a cutie! Can you tell that his head is translucent and his body isn't easily, or do you really have to look?

42. Thank you Stephanie and mysteriousracerj. The difference in resin isn't really that noticeable in person unless you really look. One good thing is that the french resin sort of reflects the color of his neck, so it appears to match really well until you see him in different lighting, or if you hold his hands up near his face. I got his body second hand, so it's a bit yellowed and has some defects (could use a good cleaning up again, too). But it poses like a champ. He might be my best poser out of the whole crew and he's not even sueded. An expressive body like that goes so well with his cute face and the personality of the character. I love the combination even with the slight mismatch. It still would be great to get him a body from the same company, though.

I've heard some great things about the A-S bodies. Let's bring this thread back to life a little. :) Anyone have awesome posing spam using the A-S body?

43. Hello! I'm getting ready to order an AS Bella in Tan, but before I do I really want to make sure it's dark enough for the character I'm trying to shell. Could anyone post a picture of their Tan little one next to some of their other non tan dolls? The comparison photos on AS for the resin look good, but they aren't always that dark in person! Thanks!!

44. Hi everybody ! I ordered via "a mint on card" the beautiful Cassie limited. But I don't know how much time it takes before shipping ?
Someone has an idea ? 1 or 2 months ?

45. @Maxtastic: I'm sorry I haven't checked back this thread for so long! But your Gus still looks really good. I'll have to try out those tips after my exams end! I'm desperate to get my Rue back to a normal skin tone. If anything I might even resort to dyeing her to a flesh tone, but that's a last resort.

46. Hi everyone. I don't know how active this thread is...but... I'll be taking a Kimi home from the event <3 (And 3 Agi friends) I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of Kimi? I can't seem to find very many..

I plan to get Ice & Snow someday, too. I'd just love to see everyone's Angell-Studio bunnies :)

47. Well I don't have Kimi anymore (I bought his head so I could have both sets of ears) but I can see if I can get a new picture of my Kimo. He's due for some love...

48. I'd love to see a Kimo, too! I wanted to get him as well eventually (to complete my bunny family) but he'll probably sell out by the time I can. >w<

49. This isn't a very active thread unfortunately, although I guess it depends on timing? x3; *shot* Like, sometimes it may move 1-2 pages within a day, then get quiet for a while.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Kimi either though >: I only have my cute modded Yuma uvu~ (who is still in the hiding, I should take the poor thing out and give him a new face-up...) I must say, I'm SUPER jelly of the you getting Agi friends ;A; I love them, they're so adorable and bubbly, but other companies have emptied my wallet TT_TT gahhh...

50. I understand. There are a couple threads that are not very active much to my dismay :c I'd love to see your Yuma anyways :)

I'm curious to see which Agi they are going to give me since the are random o.o

51. I'll definitely post him when I get my new fixative (it's already been over two weeks since it shipped from UK...>.> *is getting worried* ) and give him a new face-up! >^<; I also need to smoothen his eye a little, because when my friend did his mod, she didn't have sandpaper >^<;

Me too oAo! Argh, I'm getting excited for you D'x You should totally post when you get them! (your kimi too of course! >w< )

(also I totally feel like I've been posting overly too much on DoA the last few weeks, and like I've been seeing you everywhere Shawnee XD I bet you are getting bored of me! LOL )

52. Ah, I hope it gets to you soon. It can be so nerve wracking waiting for something to come, especially if it's being shipped overseas!

I definitely will :) I hope people post their Abu's and Charlie's too!

LOL. You are totally fine. But I sometimes feel like that too <.< I hope people don't think I'm annoying because I seem to pop up in random places ._. But I like seeing everyone around :) Makes the world seem a little less huge

53. Yea...-m-;;; Well, if it delays too much, I guess I won't have any other choice and I'll just go buy some of the old from the hobby-game store -3-; I wanna do more face-ups!!! >3<)9

Do you think anyone bought Abu? D: I LOOOOVE Abu ;A; I want him so so so much! Glad he's unlimited, or I'd flip and quit this hobby LOL!!! (toomanylimitedsamg) I do hope we'll see a few around >:

Haha! Glad I'm not the only one feeling like that XD I feel like, I'm sometimes becomming annoying too because, I don't usually post pictures/spam, since almost none of my resin babus are here with me TTvTT; (or don't have bodies or eyes or hair or etc)

54. I wish I could do more faceups, too, but I'm so scared of sealant and ruining the faces ;-; I live in Florida, and it always hot/humid here!

I hope someone bought an Abu, I think he's just the cutest thing. (I LOVE raccoons! Hehe, maybe somebody will make a raccoon anthro bjd someday :D That would totally sucker me in) And yeah I agree, so many limiteds... so many adorable dolls. *o* Easy to go crazy in this hobby, lol.

How come your resins babies aren't with you? D:

55. Awww D: It's pretty hot here too, but I'm thankful to AC! *shot* But it's so sunny and hot, I've been having daily headaches, and that's not fun TT_TT; Today I've been with a headache all day because I'm out of painkillers fml! TT^TT; It's gotten better now (12am) but still...
And well, if you spray like, 2-3 layers before starting the face-up, there won't be reason to worry of ruining the faces! ^-^ They'll be pretty nicely protected from staining and such. Rubbing alcohol easily removes it and if you find difficult, you can get pure acetone, and just work fast. I was pretty much freaking out the first time I used acetone from all the horror stories I had read, but I used it on vinyl for around 20 minutes before washing and the face is still fine XD

Hahaha! Awww, that'd be indeed very cute eee! *w* I don't have any 'special' love for raccoons (I do find them adorable! >w<) but Abu is just precious *v*//
Yea, companies should just take it easy on us UAU;

Ahhh well X'D You see, my family doesn't exactly know about my hobby (and I've been in it for almost a year and a half wow...). I'm kind of too scared to tell them because they're not the very supportive kind of parents? XD; (and my bro just immitates dad...go figure). Even for my trying to get into Fine Arts, I mean, at first they were all 'meh, better go do smth better with your life', mostly my mother, my father was all 'do whatever you want, just don't blame me' but when I bought my PSP, he looked at it and then looked at me and I could see it in his eyes that he wanted to throw it away!!! TT3TT;
So, because of this and that, I kind of give my dollies to friend to dolly-sit them till I move out of here and can live on my own (I'm living with my brother right now, and although the tinies are in full view and all, he hasn't seen the bigger one hiding in my bag and I don't want to know what he'll say if he does XD; ). So yea >_<;;; Right now, a few are at my friend's, the tiny ones and a few heads are with me and one big guy is hiding in a bag, day and night u~u;

56. That's terrible >w< I really hope you feel better soon. Headaches can just be the worst, especially when they don't go away ;c

So, Kimi will be my first ever Angell-Studio doll, and my second doll in a gray resin. I know with some grey dolls, the sealant shows up awfully white on their face when sprayed! Do you think that will happen to Kimi? How is AS resin? I know most of their dolls are the translucent one, but since Kimi is grey, she's the solid kind. I just don't want her to look ghost-facey because of the sealant ._.

Aww, Shai, I just want to hug you ;-; It makes me sad you can't be open with your dollies! I understand, though. I hide some of my dolls from my family, too. My mother likes them, but every time I show her one she's all "how much was this one?" ._. Even though I've told her I don't like those questions! So I don't really tend to tell her when I get a new family member~ Maybe I'll tell her about Kimi though, since she'll be my first AS doll.

I hope you get to move out soon. I live on my own, as well, and it's so nice to have my girls out and about in the house. It would be terrible to have to hide them!

57. I got Abu with my most recent order! I got him blank, my fiances going to blush him and stuff for me :3 I can't wait, he's so cute. He's going to go with my male xibao!

58. You got Abu!? Yay :D Does your Fiance have any plans on how he wants to blush him? I can't wait to see him either ^.^ I really wanted him, but I know I'll be happy with just the little agi chicks ♥

59. knowing my fiance, she'll probably do something super colorful! I'm giving her 100% freedom with Abu because he's going to be my little Clover (xibao)'s "imaginary friend" if you will ^^
