This is my Little Fair Cien, Adrienne. I really need to change out her eyes, but the headcap is, um, a bit intimidating.
I've found that if you hold the doll's body firmly between your knees, hold on to the head with one hand and then pull the head cap up with the other you get just enough stretch in the elastic to unhook the head cap. Getting it back on is harder though as you have to twist the head cap back onto the s-hook but once again, stretching the elastic is the key. I have weakness in my wrists but I manage it, just Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Angel Region headcap (or any older BJD make) needs a little bit more strength because they were made before the innovation of the magnetic headcap. I just need to get a smaller s hook since the S-hook I got wasn't the original one.
Yeah, I've just bought a friend's limited Glory Angel Angelica (with completely closed eyes) and the way she got around the head cap problem is having a loop of ribbon between the hook in the head cap and the s-hook. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Hello hello! I've gotten my first BJD completely by a happy and lucky accident, and have spent the last two weeks doing some homework to find out more about her. Thanks to so many lovely people on DoA and a group of local collectors, I know she is an older Angel Region Little Fair Cien, maybe around 2005-2006. I don't know how many "hands" old she is (i.e. secondhand, third, no clue how many people she owned before ending up with me), but I'm quickly becoming very attached and really enjoying learning all about these masterpieces! (You can see more of her here.) I'm waiting on the delivery of some cord to re-string her, and just placed an order for a wig. It's been estimated that her eyes are 12mm.... Is there anyone with an AR LF Cien with 14mm and 16mm eyes? I'm hoping to see some comparison shots before buying a pair myself. Any help - especially side by side/similar color - would be great. And.... I've followed DoA FAQ, Tech FAQ, and internet searches to try to figure out how to embed those images. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Did you try using the insert image function from the toolbar at the top of the post? As for eyes, even though she's now sold out on the website, Cien came with 16mm, here is the page with a couple of company photos http://dollsoom.com/soom/neoangelregion.html Can't wait to see pics once you've found her new eyes
Thanks, redcountess! I thought she looked a bit grumpy; I'm seeing now that the issue may be her eyes moreso than her face. And I did try the "insert image" at the top of the post... but it only shows as a small icon that looks like a torn piece of paper, even though I switched browsers. Bah humbug.
Hi, SunKist! Congratulations on your beautiful Cien! The reason why your pictures are not showing up is because you are using a web page url, not the picture url. For example, the url for your first photo is: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-NTl9ptP5NCo/UaPnq9tVrWI/AAAAAAAAL_s/_X581oSOaZY/s800/IMG_1015.JPG (the forum will not display the full string, you'll have to follow the link and copy the url from the browser address bar) You will need to add tags in order for DoA to recognize your link as a photo and display it. Please note, though, that you can only display one image per post in discussion threads, without consecutive posting. If you'd like to show more images, you can always create a Gallery thread and link to it for others to see! I hope this helps!
Omigosh, thank you so much Anna!! *edits* AH! Beautiful - so much better! And I will earmark the note that there should only be one image per post within discussion threads ~ this was my first foray outside of Newbieland or Ask a Moderator. Now I'll find a gallery for the rest of the pictures.
No problem at all! If you need more help, please do ask I look forward to seeing your Gallery thread!
I have 14mm oval glass eyes in my Cien boy, but I think the actual iris size is closer to 12mm. These are also low dome eyes, which is much easier to fit his eye opening as they don't gap as much. 14mm (regular iris) might run a little big but still be ok. I think 16mm might be too big. I'll try to get some pics over the weekend (unless someone else posts some before that). Here's Rixx (yes he chose that name XD):
Ohhhhhh, guls207 - he's gorgeous! Thanks so much for the help; I think that definitely settles it for me. When you say dome size, do you mean the amount of glass over the colored part of the eye? And the iris is where the color begins, right? I thought the millimeters referred to the size of the entire eyeball, and didn't realize you could get 14mm eyes with 12mm irises. I think the company originally sold Cien with 16mm eyes (see here), but I really like the way the 14mm look on Rixx. I'm thinking of this set for my little lady, who hasn't told me her name yet:
Lol no problem! By dome size I meant the curvature of the actual eye, some eyes are more flat while others are highly rounded (which are good for dolls that have deep eye wells, but our little fairs don't have eye wells so low dome eyes would work the best). Usually bjd eye seller list the eyes under the diameter of the entire eye (white and colored part). The iris size is the size of the colored part only. It is possible to get say 12mm eyes with 6.0-6.5mm irises which give the typical 12mm eye "look," but it is also possible to get 12mm eyes with 7mm+ irises (although less common) which would give the appearance of 14mm eyes in a space where only a 12mm eye would fit. ^_^ Anyway! I'm really glad you like the 14mm look. Usually the company's recommended eye size can be sized up or down by one size to suit the doll owner's preference. For my mature characters, I like to scale down a size while for my younger characters, I like keeping the recommended size, but sometimes I'll go up a size. Just a quick comparison of the 2 eye sizes: Cien with 14mm eyes: Cien with 16mm eyes:
I think the 14mm looks best too, I think I have 14mm in my LF Angelica with the slightly open eyes, I have high dome plastics in her, which really don't sit well in her eye wells, but they were the only amber ones I could find. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Oooh! I just wanted to mention, if low domes are hard to find, you can try silicone eyes like eyeco. They are almost flat and great for hard to fit eyes. They do tend to look a bit more realistic. I think SOOM single dome silicone eyes might work too.
Yeah, I love Eyeco but couldn't find this colour in their range. Might try Soom. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I am jumping for joy at those comparison pics!! The eyes are on order and will hopefully get here around the same time as her new wig late next week. HUZZAH!! *happy dance*
I have a question for everyone here, my Ami, has what I am calling a broken leg, but her foot popped off and the hook which was in her foot looks like a screw, so I am not sure what to do about it. I will have to take pictures in the morning since it's late here.
Mine have done that. What you do is put a bit of superglue into the hole that's in the top of the foot, and stick the screw part back in there. I usually add an extra dab of glue around the base of the screw part once it's set back in there. If your hook part is still attached to the string and it's tight, slip a thick rod-like anything into the loop at the bottom of the leg part, so you've got the loop safely sticking out of the leg. In fact...I had to repair one foot (although that one was on a BF rather than the AR body) - the hook had come off the cord, so it was separate. Repaired, put to dry -- and then we had bad weather events, and house changes, so there's still a foot missing in action around here. I finally made my boy an amputee so at least he was presentable for a meet!
Reynardine, your Ami is so darling and fresh-faced -- lovely pic of her! Makes me wish I'd gotten an Ami for one of my characters years ago, instead of a Ren girl.
Bumping this thread - hopefully there are still some AR owners out there who can help. I have an AR Cien from a million years ago, and I sorta fell out of love with him - I had him up for sale, and had a doll picked out to replace him....but realized I would be replacing him with a doll that looked just like him (BF Robin) and thought that was kind of dumb. So he's not going anywhere...but I think he needs a total revamping. He represents a character which isn't going to change - but I have some room to play around with faceups and wardrobe aaaand I must have either lost or sold his wig because I can't find it XD so he'll need a new one of those too. Anyway I was hoping for some spam to inspire me to fall back in love with my Cien! Any mold will do - just some pretty pictures! 3
I was gifted an Angel Region Jade. I wipe his faceup and now he is my most freckled red head. devon 1 by SteamWitch BJDmama, on Flickr
Hello all! I'm waiting on a 2005 Halloweird in the mail right now, and I was wondering if any of our older members might have any of her default pictures saved... I known it's a bit of a long shot, but I haven't been able to find anything, even on the wayback machine. I was hoping to get her a faceup inspired by the one she originally had. Anyway, very excited to have another original Angel Region doll!
It's been a long time since anyone has posted in here, but I just got my first Angel Region doll! She is an Angel Region Dana and an old girl, having been made in 2004/2005. She doesn't have a name yet, but that's okay. I'm still really enjoying her! ❤️
Okay I just want to say thank you SO MUCH for posting this, I never would've bothered looking anymore. They're offering the one version of him I don't have! I've been looking for it for years! I really hope they bring back the whole line.
Seconding BlackSheep (thank you, @xxxsaturnxxx!) -- this is very cool! I see Soom is using the slightly more mature body type many companies use nowadays to compete in the "mature mini" market, which is understandable. It seems to have double-jointed elbows, which is nice. If it does well, maybe there will be reissues of the other Little Fair sculpts *edit* Soom has the other Little Fair sculpts listed, with the "Sold Out" note, which often means it's just not available yet, so... we shall see!
I'm glad this help @BlackSheep @beamlette I was thinking about the chance that no one know about this too. Soom took order of each doll for only a short period of time and only announce in their place. I hope they would bring back the whole line too, like what they did with the Rosette last year.
Oh my God??? I never thought I would see the day AR re-released any of their LF sculpts in any capacity! Of course I'm a little saddened that they don't have the original body (and the one they're using looks a little...emaciated) and I'm not a huge fan of the faceup, but I'm very intrigued. My AR Ren girl is probably the most emotionally significant doll I own, and I have such an emotional attachment to AR as a company so I would love to see them continue with this. Would love to see Cien and Seio make a return as well! Maybe they'll sell the heads separately so I can put it on an old BF body, it would be kind of surreal to have a brand new Ren sitting next to my original.
I agree @lunar-dream304 , I prefer the original bodies (same goes for the BF kids, too). I miss their delicate gentle hands, and I gotta say a lot of companies are doing this really square-shouldered noodle arms thing that I'm not a fan of either. I'm too old school in my case, I guess It's WILD to see those new photos though, they look so drastically different from my 2005-ish (estimated) Ren boy! Personally I'm hoping we might see Jade and a few others come back soon as well ❤️
Anyone going to order Dana?! I just saw they rereleased Ren sometime ago and now Dana has an ordering period. I really hope they release the other sculpts. I would love to have a Sora, Kano, or Cien
I recently fell into the Angel Region Little Fair second hand market hole ... here are my new to me Little Fairs Luna and Dana both inscribed on their head caps with mold name and line. Luna, my newest arrival, has the original body with connected wrist balls and two part thigh piece. Luna came in a balsa wood box that unfortunately for me was damaged from poor packaging. Last year, I acquired a present/sleepy Ren with priest garb and rosary and I also have one regular Ren who is off for a face up. Will post those two when Ren is back with me. Your girls are lovely! I'm glad there was a re-release period for folks last year too, though wish I'd been back in the hobby to take advantage too lol
Thank you so much! I wish I had been interested at the time but I really love looking for secondhand dolls too!
I have a few of questions about Jade & Mano to anyone that can remember: *were they originally only sold as a set? * was there a reason that the boy/girl had different names? *what is the difference between V1 & V2 *neither of mine have the sculpt name etched in the headcap, just Little Fair, can anyone confirm this? My seller only wished to sell as a set, said they were purchased in 2004 directly from AR in Korea but listed them as Ren. However, I could tell from the photos that they were both Jade. They came with the second version white cotton baby outfits that have the pintucks on the bodice fronts, skirt and the boy pant legs. They have the original Angel Boutique Black label maryjane shoes and back zipper boots with leather laces and AR wigs one with AR label. Included was a black AR *as you wish* drawstring bag that could not have fit two doll boxes unless they were both kit boxes. If you could supply any info on my new dolls it would be so appreciated. I just want to know all the details. Here they are after a quick wipe down Mano on the left and Jade on the right: Angel Region Little Fair's Jade & Mano by Melissa, on Flickr
1. No they were not originally sold as a set to my knowledge. I used to have a Jade and obsessively stared at Angel Region's site back then and don't remember any dolls that were only a set. 2. This used to be more common where there'd be a different name but it's the same head between the male/female versions of a doll. But I don't know if there's any specific reason for it other than trends of the time. 3. Can't answer this one. While AR was still AR and it's own company they did do a few version releases that seemed to be more about different limiteds than any actual change to the head sculpt BUT I can't be 100% sure. 4. This is correct for older Little Fair. All of mine either just say Little Fair on the inside or say Little Fair and then the name of the sculptor but not the name of the doll head. All purchased straight from AR back when they were still their own company.
Thank you so much for answering my questions! I'd love to know the sculptors name and whether all Little Fairs had the same sculptor? I am also curious which Little Fairs you may own and if you have any photos that you share online? new pic: present Ren, custom Ren, Dana, Luna, boy Ren, girl Ren, Dana, Mano and Jade Angel Region Little Fair by Melissa, on Flickr
I haven't seen any and was wondering if anyone here had purchased the 20th anniversary re-releases of Cosette, Ren or Dana? I would love to see some pics if there are any out there. pic of my custom Angel Region Dana by @bunny_faceup on insta Angel Region custom Dana by Melissa, on Flickr
I don't know the sculptors name or if they have the same sculptor. I don't think they do but that's just because they had a few heads that looked very stylistically different from the others even before they were purchased. Sorry for the slow reply. I didn't notice the reply alert. I should take photos. It's been a while. My AR dolls are: Little Prince Dan, POJ Kai, Hallowierd half eyed Ren girl (they let me order her with the girl body instead of the boy body), OFY Milky white Ren boy (from the first run of OFY dolls), a non AR head on an AR fair boy body, and assorted floating heads. Both my milky white dolls have turned a very odd shade of yellow. I keep meaning to wipe them, give them a good cleaning, then decide if I want to try some kind of brightening treatment or if I just want to give them new faceups that look better with the current coloration and change their styling so it looks intentional and not like surprise banana.
The more I look at Little Fair's and for them, the more I think the sculpting was done by different artists as well, especially the Jade mold with the wide set eyes and the lack of sharp chin and pointy nose. Some of the later molds but before Soom like Lux have beautiful sculpting. No worries on the timing of the reply. And I would love to see a pic of your Little Prince Dan. I have yet to see a Dan face mold. I would love a Kai but he would probably be too big for me. Did you get the Hallowierd outfit set? I would love to see a picture of that and maybe I could recreate it, no pressure though. If you do treat the yellowing I would love to know how it turns out. I have a few that could use a new faceup and it would be ideal to treat the yellow before hand. Angel Region Cien on BF girl body by Melissa, on Flickr
Unfortunately my halloweird ren girl and dan are packed away somewhere at the moment. Next time I have them out though I'll make sure to take some pictures and post them here! Dan has the u shaped eyes like present ren. I'm a sucker for u shaped eyes. lol Oh and Dan's original outfit is long gone. It was mostly pleather and exploded over time.
Right? I have so many doll shoes and pants that have crumbled or shredded themselves to dust over the years. It's why I usually don't buy pleather doll shoes anymore. But even then the soles sometimes just disintegrate. Thankfully my ren girls default doesn't have pleather parts so it's just as cute clown as it was when I got her.
The halloweird rens outfit is a black and white jester outfit basically. It even came with a human sized wand.
I would love to see that outfit sounds amazing! My Ren's Angel Region Little Fair Ren's by Melissa, on Flickr
You have a Prode of Jocker Ren! I've got the Kai limited from the same series. I think I figured out where my halloweirds head and outfit are so I'll take photos when I get home. (Her head was in a separate location for painting then got misplaced. >_>)
