@mollym apparently I only replied to your previous post in my head! That's a good tip about adding a tint of another colour - it hadn't occurred to me that different skintones would need different tooth colours. I don't want my dolls to look too realistic either although I could probably manage a natural uneven skintone - just not deliberately! If I ever master eyebrows maybe I'll try veins! Anyway! Yay for the new arrival! She looks fabulous even blank. The brown wig looks cute on her. I think they sent really big, like 18mm, eyes with mine but even before I modded her eyes smaller I used smaller eyeballs. I really expected the baby to be one piece - the head comes off? For an easier birth?! ? It looks like she has different hands to mine - they seem a more natural pose. I keep failing with my Hui Xiang's faceup but somehow she looks nice despite it. She doesn't even have eyebrows atm poor thing!
Can anyone tell me the size of the wrist ball for these guys? I'm interested in a pair of the skeleton hands for one of my SD Vito boys but I can't seem to find the size of the wrist ball anywhere. All it says is that the hands fit 1/3 AoD boy/girl bodies, which isn't terribly helpful when I'd like to put them on a different brand of doll. I have 3 AoD boys but 2 are MSD and the other is an LE Doll/AoD Adonis collab boy (there are only 38 of him and I've never seen another out in the wilds of the internet) and his body was custom designed for the collab so I don't think I can rely on his wrist measurements since he's not a "standard" AoD 1/3 boy. This is Moswen (AoD Chi) and Kijika (LE Doll/AoD Adonis collab). I assume Kijika would belong here as he's 57cm. Moswen & Kijika 1 by ID Locke, on Flickr
I just saw the pregnant body and might just have to get one... Have you styled your girl any further?
@Bristol.... sadly not yet. It's been a crazy summer and the only weekend I had opened... it rained and I got sick anyhow. I'm hoping very soon, but sun and good weather is for only a few months of the year in my area.
I have a vito boy and some small SD hands and I don't think the AOD skeleton hands are smaller than my smallest SD hands which don't fit on the vito boy since his hands are smaller in size. (I bought jointed hands for him which don't fit) X_X
@Jigarkhvar Well darn. I have some Dollmore Dollpire Adam hands and they fit my Vito guy beautifully (the WS resin match is near perfect, too) so I was hoping that the AoD ones would fit the Vito boys (or fit with some minor modding of the AoD wrist ball).
@Iron_Dog I can give you the meassurements on the normal wristjoint of the AOD hands. But in my opinion I think that AOD hands are from the larger hands of SD hands. Resinsoul have cute small hands
If you could give me the wrist measurements, that would be awesome. I'd likely get the non-jointed hands as I'm not a super fan of them despite having several guys with jointed hands. The regular skeletal hand are like $15 so if mods are required to make them work it's not a a big deal in my head.
Hello all Just hopping in here with a little spam and a greeting. Oh and does anyone have experience/an opinion on hot-glue sueding these guys? Does it work well etc?
Out of the blue a bit, but is anyone able to tell me which sculpt my girl is? I bought her second-hand, but I admittedly haven’t been able to figure out what her sculpt is for the past three years. ^^’
Hello everyone I am looking for a reasonably priced doll body for my incoming girl. I thought AoD is a good option, but I am unsure about their posability. Does anyone have some experience with this? I mean, how is it comparing to other companies? I don't mean super gymnastics, just basic stuff like sitting in different positions, standing, etc? How do the hip, torso and elbow joints work in your opinion?
I wish I could identify that sculpt, but I have no idea, either way, that's a great face. I have the pregnant body, she poses just fine. It depends more on how tight the strings are tied. Wiring is always an option, and many have great success with that.
@CutieKitty as with all dolls your mileage may vary when it comes to poseability but from my experience AoD is pretty good overall but there are a couple of things that bother me. She sits great, no need for slouching and is usually a reliable stander. She can be a bit weak in the knees tho - sueding could help there. No swivel joints in the thighs mean she's limited to knees together, feet a bit apart when seated which is cute tho. The main issue I have is the elbows. They bend towards the body so she never looks comfortable with her hands in her lap. Oh and I don't love the hands either but I reshaped the more awkward one by boiling it. The lower torso joint does lock into place but tends to look unnatural so I don't use it. I usually only make my dolls slouch when they're sitting but she sits so nicely straight backed I don't bother! But having just grabbed her to try it out, the top torso joint is good with a nice range of movement. (you might want to take a look at Impldoll's Model body while you're researching - it has thigh and upper arm swivel joints, a nice body sculpt - bit shorter than the AoD but depends what you're looking for. She does need to slouch to sit tho.) There's some naked photos of both these bodies on my Flickr; Sitting the first one is Impldoll then the AoD small bust. Hope that's helpful! @Celestine your girl is lovely - hope someone can tell you what sculpt she is - maybe someone more familiar with older sculpts?
thank you that's SO much information thank you for your time! The photo referrence helps a lot too. I was thinking about getting an impldoll, but I didn't like the sculpt and now that you say that it's even smaller, I'm all for the AoD body. I like it's natural look and small breasts. I was just unsure about the posing, but your response has helped me a lot
No worries, glad it was helpful! The bust options are nice on the AoD body - I did swap my girl onto a smaller bust because it suited her better. Good luck with your hybrid!
I love the natural look of her small bust and I'm into it because it's soo much easier for sewing I'm also used to the easthetics of lanky models and I want my bjds to look similar (I'm more into fashion doll-like side of the hobby rather than characters lol). And for the price, AoD is like the best option around. Even the bodies that go for 300sth aren't often as pretty.
@CutieKitty I do have to agree that AoD makes really pretty dolls, and the price point is very nice. Myself, I'm not particularly into adult female dolls, but, AoD is among a few companies that make that an exception. The price point is certainly a plus! I wish I could help more, but, the pregnant body I have has different parts than the regular one. I hope you find a great match for your new dolly!
that's ok I have a personal limit when it comes to dolls and since I know that I sell my dolls within 3 or so years, I don't want to invest too much either. Anyway, if I can get a nice body for 200 bucks, then why would I want to pay a double (at least) of that for the same thing as most bodies priced below aren't as good looking anyway. I still need to decide though about the bust... the 2nd smallest is temptig, it looks really nice on her
I'm always glad for the different bust options. Sometimes, it's fun to have more than one if you are into the different style of clothes. Mine just had the default, but I did look hard at the regular female body before because of that choice.
@CutieKitty yep, AoD are definitely good for the price. I like my dolls on different bodies - in my case I'm all about the character! My girl was originally on the impldoll body but it's very soft and feminine - the AoD body with its six pack suits her more. Here's her old medium bust and her smaller one; Angel of Dream Medium and Small Bust by Rubydoll Chaos, on Flickr Ah yes, @mollym, I noticed that the pregnant body has thigh swivel joints - does she have them in her arms too? I'd be tempted to ask if her legs fit the standard body
@rubydoll thanks a lot for the link Now that I can see them I must admit - I will have to take smaller. It's not thaaat small anyway, but it looks cute and my two girls could swap their clothes (my other girl is on the sd13 B-bust volks body). That's yet another reason why I'd not want a super-curvy and big-breasted doll body. Although I'm not a fan of hip-bone joints (I only like two-piece torsos cut on the ribs), I also like her belly. It's sporty but not super slim. As regards the sculpt - the only thing I wouldn't mind being diferent would be a little curvier thighs. Just a little
She doesn't have the same style swivel joints on her arms, but they do well. I guess I missed the regular lady body having the regular thighs. My other adult female resin doll has them too, and maybe my boys as well, so, I might have not noticed. My lady has her elastic a bit too tight in her arms now, but I've really not done anything with her since she's been home aside from dressing her. She's due a faceup, but this isn't the first time I had a blank doll for a time before I was ready, she's still really cute though. I agree, all the busts look nice, but even the small one isn't really small in comparison to her human counter parts, maybe only small in the world of fashion dolls, but they all look proportionate.
Every since I reshelled my Endigo’s body from a Mirodoll body to Angel Of Dream back in October I loved the discussion I made. I love how I’m able to pose him better and able to put shoes on him even if he just fits the girl shoes. He dresses feminine anyway. I’m working on getting my SD13 boy Alucard to get reshelled into the 62cm body and getting my first SD13 girl from them as well.
I just received the body today and I love it! It both fits and matches my Supia Rosy head so well! And It's pretty too! The torso is my favourite and looks so much better in person. Also I was concerned about the funny hand but in fact i love it and it inspires poses that would look unnatural with other types of hands. Also the lack of the hip joint as you guys mentioned isnt problematic at all. Overall, I love the body and I'm happy I didn't have to pay an arm and leg to get it! I also ordered some wigs and shoes with it and I'm just very happy about it all.
My Angel of Dream Qian head was my first ever bjd. She still needs a body, but I also really want to get an AOD Gu for a different character. Picking between dolls is so hard, and I feel so bad to leave her as a floating head.
It's been awhile since I ordered an AoD body and I used to get them from Dollonline on Ebay. I couldn't find anything but huge busted body in SD size. Are they still out there?
Guess I'll be joining ya'll soon. I have a Zixi on the way, which I can't really seem to find here. Anyone else own that lovely girl?
Hello everyone. I’m wondering if anyone else here owns a gelei. I’d love to see pictures and how other people decorated him/her. Here’s mine on Luts Delf boy body. I’m thinking about possibly changing him to a girl body
I just realized that I never posted my AOD Zixi. I haven't paid as much attention to her as I'd like. She needs more clothes and a proper fitting wig, but I do love her. This is Sizzy. :>
Wowee, I had to go back so far to find this thread! Is this company super unpopular, or what? Well, I love their dolls, and just got Rhoda, a Wu Shuang. I'm in love with her evil little smirk! Omg so happy really. What's the deal? Why is this thread so far back?
@Alchemicat - I think they've kind of fallen off people's radar? I know I lost track of what was going on with them when their English site vanished. You're reminding me I need to finish repainting my Qian. Your girl does have a marvelous smirk!
I'm thinking of ordering a Zimei, but I can't find the eye size that would fit her (and I've never had a SD before so rough estimates are hard)... could anyone tell me what size the AOD SD usually take for eyes?
Well, my Qian can't take anything smaller than 16mm, and LegendDoll just seems to have 16mm as the default size given on all the AoD SD sales pages, but if all these example dolls are wearing 16s, it looks to me like some of them could take 14s too. I don't see a Zimei listed there, though?
oh, thanks!! yeah, oddly, I can only see Zimei on the Alice's Collection site... But I think it's not my first time seeing some dolls missing on LegendDoll?
Ah, okay, that sculpt! I saw her on AoD's own site, but I didn't take the time to translate anything... It actually looks like they used high-dome eyes that don't fit quite right, so there's some gapping at the sides. That makes it harder to tell. I'd probably try 16mm low-dome small iris eyes, unless of course you prefer the large iris look!
Would anybody here happen to have both DZ white and AoD white and tell me if they match? Also is new AoD white paper white or creamy white? I'm asking about the match as those two are supposedly a good match from what I've been able to scrounge up here on DoA from old threads and I really like the looks of the AoD body for Oleander, who needs a slimmer/less muscled body than his current one (Miro NY). Oleander is an... odd colour as the caster screwed up the colour (he's an imperfect Angel Toast Crow). But! He perfectly matches mellowed DZ white (2013) as well as a 99% match to Dollshe oriental. Blushing Oleander to match isn't a thing as he has a gorgeous face-up by Meanist and I don't think she's doing face-ups any more. Fei-Lau (DZ Edward) lives in his box most of the time (no display space *sigh*) so his mellowing should be just the natural aging of resin not due to UV exposure. I'd say he's a nice creamy white and not a paper white although he was paper white when he first arrived to me. While I do have AoD boys, they are tan and NY. The NY is NOT a match at all as it's way too dark.
I've been foraying more into the vinyl side of the doll hobby as of late but my first Grail, back when I was ~13 with no income, was an AoD Meng Li, and I've been considering trying to get her finally! I'm a bit nervous though because I was super faceblind back then and there aren't a ton of owner pics out there still. That and resin might seem too heavy and ungainly after dealing with frame-base off topic dolls for a while (though I miss how resin just "flops" into cute poses; more cuddles! Is that weird?), but I need something new to inspiring me and finally recreating my vision for my original dream doll "Bailey" might be a great way to do that. I'd probably go with whatever bust size fits the most clothes, because daaang there are so many options apparently. I didn't do that much research back then so that I'll have to do from scratch. I'm actually really looking forward to this! I'll even have to save up for real again since I'm being stricter on my spending after a too-big-but-technically-within-my-means purchase, but that will make my triumph all the sweeter. Fair warning, DZ white and AOD white used to be a perfect match (in fact, knowing that AOD/Doll-Love were sister companies and DZ/Doll-Chateau were another pair, led me to a Doll-Love/DC hybrid that matched perfectly though I think Doll-Love seems to yellow faster) but DZ relatively recently changed their white resin to something that I think is more creamy, but is certainly different from the paper white they used to have. So going by that it seems less likely that they would match now, but I haven't had them in person to tell. It might depend on when you got the DZ doll, since the change was I think within the last year or two? I can look it up at some point but I know it was fairly recent. I hope you can find a match though! My Laika, an old DZ Shoyo in white, has definitely mellowed to a butter color (that probably doesn't match anything at this point, she's old, and I'm still mad at my 13-year old self for not finding option hands to be necessary) so maybe yellowing could somehow make a match, but it seems like a shot in the dark to me tbh. There's always blushing I guess? I've never had a mismatched hybrid so IDK how noticeable it actually is.
@Cattya Thanks for the info. In speaking to others who are more experienced than me with hybrids (I only have 3 out of 66 dolls that are hybrids), it was suggested that I get a NP body and wait for the pink to mellow, which apparently happens in a relatively short period of time. The resulting colour should be close-ish to Oleander. Maybe. If I'm lucky because he's Mystery Resin Colour. Don't let your face-blindness hold you back on getting a sculpt you connect with. As one proso to another, I find that it's usually something about the sculpt on an instinctual level that draws me to one sculpt over another. I can't really explain well what exactly that something is. The best I can say is that it speaks to me in an indefinable way. But, that's me and YMMV on how you work/deal with your face-blindness. Mine is the acquired variety so that may have some bearing on it as well since I do know what it's like to recognize people via their faces but don't have a clue about that now *sigh*. I also find that I am more drawn to the odd/unusual sculpts likely because of the oddness and my ability to recognize them.
I've been searching through this forum but no luck finding anything regarding someone purchasing a full AoD doll since 2018. Since the product photos are nearly a decade old at this point, if I'm remembering the timing of my original search correctly, I have absolutely no idea what their current faceup style is like. I like the look of Meng Li's in her product page, but unless I can be sure that I'd be getting something I like, I'll probably get her blank. Which is a shame because I was hoping to artificially give myself the "first doll fullset experience" to recreate what I missed in my youth. :c
Perhaps you can contact Alice’s Collection (or other dealer that carries AoD) and ask if the recent face ups are different from the promo ones? Mayhaps even ask for a picture of a more recent faceup??
That's a really good idea! I'll definitely contact them then. I might do it when I'm a little closer to having the funds since I don't want to bother them when I can't buy yet. Hopefully people still buy from AoD, even if there isn't much activity re:AoD dolls on this forum... which makes me wonder if I should try looking at international/non-English speaking forums if AoD is more popular other places... but idk where to start with that so contacting AC is a good bet xD
Some threads simply seem quieter than others. The large DZ thread is fairly quiet, too. I don't remember the last time I got a notification for the large Leeke boys. It may be over a year since I got a notification for the OrientDoll thread. I think sometimes it may be connected to how often new stuff comes out from a company that keeps a thread moving. The Soom thread is fairly active as is the Dollshe one. The Impl thread moves along smartly, too.
I think other doll-friendly areas on the internet attract some dolls more than others too. It seems like I don't see too many of X doll on DoA but they will have 10 or more posts a day on FB or Insta. I really prefer the forum style to talk about dolls, but sometimes they just are not on here. I'm not really sure the exact reasons, dollitics? It's beyond me.
I didn't realize there was even an active discussion thread for AoD dolls until I just saw this pop up in the recent posts. I had a bjd Instagram account for awhile and never saw AoD there either. I have an AoD Yuki that I got in 2018, but she was on my wishlist ever since I started the bjd hobby.
I belong to several doll groups on FB but I don't recall seeing a lot of stuff about AoD in the wild. My favourite doll is Moswen, an AoD Chi (OT for this thread). He was my first and I still love him to pieces. For this thread I have Kijika who is an LE Doll/AoD Adonis collaboration doll. They only made 38 of him and for the longest time the majority of photos found via a Google search were of Kijika. I've probably posted this photo before but it's my favourite of Moswen & Kijika. Moswen & Kijika 1 by ID Locke, on Flickr The vast majority of my collection are dolls that you barely see or that nobody knows exist. I didn't intend for that to happen. It just did. To be fair, some are from companies that folded ages ago and people newer to the hobby have likely never heard of them. Others are from independent artists with really small runs. Some people recognize (like Unidoll Ark) but you rarely see him anymore.
Yeah, it's strange how some very good dolls and companies are seldom mentioned. I rarely share mine, but I was put off and heartbroken over the sentiments expressed about pregnant women and motherhood in general, so I keep my little resin lady out of public's view to save my own feelings being trampled.
When Kijika was first released there were some not so kind words about his sculpt. Others didn't like him but obviously I did because I bought him. It's still not a good feeling when someone disses on something you enjoy/find beautiful/speaks to you. Thing is, these dolls are art and art is highly subjective. What one person likes, another will hate. I think it's a good rule of thumb that if you've got nothing polite to say then don't say anything. My most recent purchase (not an AoD) is most definitely not to a lot of people's tastes because of the very heavy mods done to him by a former owner. he sat in the MP for a couple of years. For my purposes with his character he's perfect. he intrigued me because he is so very far from the typical BJD beauty. I can guarantee that if you see him you won't forget him as he is not just a random face in the crowd.
@Iron_Dog I really like your Kijika. He's a good example of what I like about Angel of Dream-- there is an expressiveness about their faces that goes beyond a typical neutral pretty face. I wonder if we never see them around anywhere because they've just fallen out of fashion? It seems that over the years I've been in the hobby, the trends have continued steadily towards more and more realism and away from stylized sculpts like AoD. Here's my Agnes (AoD Yuki). I myself do tend to collect dolls that are more towards the realistic end of the scale, but there's always been something about her face that I loved, and she hung out on my wishlist for years and years before I finally got one. Weirdly enough, even though AoD is a lot less realistic than most of my other dolls, she doesn't look out of place with them. At some point, after I have several other projects finished, I'm probably going to mod her eyes a little bit and then have her faceup redone. I love her as is, but I am also really fussy with my dolls' eyes and tend to mod and tinker in that area until they're exactly perfect. A lot of the time, the eye mods I end up doing are such slight changes that it's hard to tell I changed anything, but it makes them feel more right to me.
I'd say my collection is divided into 3rds with each 3rd being stylistic, realism and fantasy. The dolls I buy are whatever their character dictates. Sometimes that means realistic and other times not. Your Agnes is lovely @thedarkeststar13 I like her wig. Once my guys have their look, it doesn't change. I had to purchase Moswen a new wig last year as his previous one was simply done after 11 years. It took me forever to get used to the new wig although the style was very similar to his original one. Even now, a year later, when I take him out I have a moment of surprise before my brain clicks that he's got a different wig now. Eyes are a huge deal to me, too. Now that I make my own, it's a LOT easier to get the look I want as well as a lot faster to get the eyes in the doll.
I ordered a white 60cm body back on September 10th, and I received it yesterday. The doll actually took longer to ship to me then it did to get made. 10 days! 10.freakin'.days! for the body to be made. I was shocked. I ordered the body through Engodoll a Chinese dealer on taobao. I had to have the body shipped by boat though, since all the other options left open to me cost more then I paid for the body. Once my forwarding service shipped it, it took a month to get to me. So, far AoD white is a decent match for Volks white, just shinier. I'm debating between putting my rose white Huisa Switch head on the body or my Le Petit Frere Volks head on the body. Switch's rose white resin is noticeable more pink, and I'm not sure if I want my Le Petit Frere to be as tall as my Volks Ernest.
@Iron_Dog I think your Chi is the one I really liked when I was considering that sculpt as a newbie! My tastes ended up changing at the time but Moswen is still awesome! Kijika has a very expressive face, I agree that that does seem to be a thing for AoD- more stylized and expressive faces, but not completely smooth and anime like, say, Dream of Doll(R.I.P... I thought that company would be around forever). It does seem like that's going out of fashion, unfortunately. I've always preferred more stylized dolls and nowadays the stylized ones are more aligned with Doll Chateau or newer DollZone dolls if they're not straight-up anime. For someone who's finally having the time/means as an adult to actually be more in the hobby, it's difficult knowing that the styles I loved back when I was a newbie are just out of fashion nowadays. @thedarkeststar13 Agnes is very pretty! I'm somewhat faceblind so that sculpt looks to me like it would fit well with realistic dolls but I may be missing some details that make it different. I think the faceup adds to the realistic affect. And modding dolls to your tastes is something I think is really cool, I hope it works out! I've considered getting a doll just to mess around modding with because I missed my chance to get an extra head for any of my current crew when they are new and I'm too nervous about messing up to work with the originals. I seem to have bad luck with the dolls I fall for being limiteds or discontinued and I get scared I might not be able to undo something and then be unable to find a head that looks the way they look before the mod... if that even makes sense lol. I stayed up all night so my brain's not very coherent rn. @Cloudedmind congrats!! That's really fast! Maybe they had one in stock or something? That is some awesome turnaround time, even with the long shipping! Which bust size did you go with, may I ask? I'm still not sure about which one I want for my girl when I get her, I'm mainly worried about clothing fitting her well rather than nude appearance tbh.I'd probably go with what's the most "standard" without being gigantic but it's hard to tell in the pics on Alice's Collections. If you have pictures I'd also be interested in seeing how the white resin looks in photos these days since I'm probably going to go with that for my Meng Li when I get her unless it's somehow absolutely horrible.
@Cattya Thank you. On the plus side, dolls that are "out of fashion" can frequently be picked up 2nd hand for less because they are less desired by the majority of people. Out of the 68 dolls I own, 46 are limited/discontinued/company folded. Most of those I purchased 2nd hand. Some of them were very difficult to find like my 2 grails (Impl Miguel the Demon Hunter LE 100 & Unidoll Ark), both of which took me 7 years to acquire. As long as you're patient and doggedly determined, you stand a good chance of eventually finding what you're after. Being face-blind is equal parts tough and irritating. I was at a doll meet and kept staring at someone else's doll because I thought it was beautiful and it called to me strongly. I finally asked the owner what sculpt he was. I was highly irritated to find out that it was an Angel Toast Crow because not only do I own one, I had mine sitting next to me the entire time. Yes, a face-up can massively change a doll but I'd had no clue they were the same sculpt. I think that's why I subconsciously have my dolls painted in a way that makes them distinctive. Coping mechanism for face-blindness that's transported over to my dolls.
@Cattya That's certainly possible. I'd be interested in testing it again, but at the moment don't need another body in that size. And, sorry, I should have mentioned that the body I bought is the 60cm boy body, but I can still try to take pictures of the resin color this weekend if you want. I do have one problem with the body though. It's left bottom leg part is curved compared to the right. I don't know if the leg wasn't fully cured when it was assembled and tight stringing or the awkward position it ended up in during shipping is what caused it to bend some.
Does anybody have owner pics and/or opinions on the 62cm version II body? Also, the given shoulder measurement of 13cm seems pretty narrow to me—could someone possibly confirm it is the true width, measured with the arms included?
@Havra I think the version two body is rather new. It certainly wasn't available when I ordered my now 62cm ver. 1 body back in July. As such there's not likely to be owner pics for it.
Oh! I had no idea how new it was. I just saw it on Alice’s Collections last night and wondered. Well, I suppose nothing to do but wait until they start popping up.
@Havra While this is only supposition, my version one body has 13.5 cm shoulders across the widest part instead of the 12cm Alice Collections has listed for the body. So, it's possible that the new bodies shoulders may be wider then what's listed as well. The measurement might have been taken at the narrower parts of the shoulder width.
@Cloudedmind Thank you for the tip. When it isn’t an overlay on a photo with a line showing where the measurement was taken, I’m often left skeptical as to what I’m really looking at. (Same with neck circumference measurements. Is that the top point of the neck, the base, or...?) If I had a spare $200 I would be very tempted to just buy one myself, but that isn’t the case atm so I’ll wait.
@Havra I recently ordered the version II 62cm boy body and it should arrive to me in a few days so I can get the measurements for you if you'd like! --- I'm really excited to see the body in person, it looks very nice, especially for the price. Also, can you believe it only took 7 days from the day I ordered to the day it was shipped out to me?? That's honestly SO amazing
