I really like the style of their new faces, and it's really cool that they've updated the body joints. Ngl the old knees SUUUCCCKKK But I also really like the torso style of the old bodies so I'm torn. I miss when their 1/4 boy body looked like the 1/3 one.
I like their more mature old style bodies, too. All my AoD boys are older. Like 15 years old. I wish they still cast tan, too, as their tan was lovely and incredibly stable (I have 2 in tan) as I've not noticed any major colour change in them. Moswen (tan Chi) is my most loved/played with doll and has been all over the place including outside of the country on vacation with me. There's virtually no difference between his colour and that of Tohan's (tan Min) head (they were purchased at the same time; yea free head events!) and Tohan's head lived in a box in a drawer for almost 10 years before I figured out who he was.
Ask and ye shall receive. This is an old pic of Moswen (Chi) and Kijika (LE Doll/AoD Collaboration Adonis LE38) but one of my favourites of them. Moswen & Kijika 1 by ID Locke, on Flickr This is Tohan (Min) and Warrick (SD Souloid Gold Mechanic Phiel (with a Titika head)) Tohan & Warrick by ID Locke, on Flickr I also have Jaiseki, another Min in NY (AoD initially sent me the Min head in tan instead of the NY I'd requested, thus the 2 Min's). Jaiseki is Moswen & Kijika's son. Tohan is one of Moswen's 1/2 brothers.
Fell in love with the Chi sculpt recently, thinking of purchasing him some time late this year. I do have a question about the different bodies, though. Does anyone know if the newer version 3 male body is much better at posing than the version 2 body? I really prefer the look of the older torso and am inclined to favor aesthetics and just suede/wire as necessary, but if the difference is really significant I might get the newer body instead.
I'm heavily biased towards the Chi sculpt as Moswen is one & even 16 years & 78 dolls later, he's still my favourite. I can't comment on the body types though as all my AoD boys are that old.
It's taken me 16 years to accumulate that many, lol. And I'm seriously looking at 2 more dolls, I have 2 floating heads that I want to get bodies for and there's another doll that is supposed to go up for pre-order in December that I'd like. Annnnnnd one doll that I really, really have no business pining over as his total (after US/CAN conversion, shipping and likely Customs fees) would put him at basically the cost of 3 months of rent for me.
Hello! I just recieved a AOD Skull head. I was wondering if anyone had any body recommendations or pictures of the head on different bodies? I'm having a hard time finding anything online. Thank you!
I have one, with it's skeleton hands, on a 2016 Dollzone Tarot Limited Moon Body in White Skin! It looks like half a torso , can't sit up, ribs, spinal "tail". (I have two of the Piggy event heads too, but they're on 1/4 AoD bodies!)
I've toyed with getting some skeleton hands from them for one of my guys but never hit the buy button. I'd get them for my SD Vito Azreal, The Hierophant (skull head), who is Rai-Sui, God of Death & Decay, Guardian of Souls. I think I hesitate only because I've not written him with bone hands (yet).
I've found Luts NS and Aod normal pink match pretty well but I highly prefer Aod bodies I can show you a Pic with the color match if you want? I don't have any Luts KDF bodies, only kdf45 and I'd need to try with the neck size but I can put my Shang Nai head on a kdf girl body if you'd like (not color matching though)?
Another Shang Nai incoming! Dispatched a couple of days ago, just over a fortnight from ordering! Possibly the best thing about Angle of Dream for someone impatient like me. And I've just filled my saved basket at Alices Collections with another $1,300 worth of AoD lovelies (I wish I could check them out!) Decided this company needs A LOT more love as their dolls are so good for the price & I'm worried they may vanish along with so many other longstanding companies in these times of financial uncertainty. Shang Nai is my first BJD purchase in years, having lost all my dolls and gone through much upheaval in domestic circumstances since 2020 but now I'm hopefully settled for a while & wanted a BJD to sew for again! Been sewing for her in advance this month but it may not fit - I'll find out the hard way soon LOL Although I had 1/3 and 90cm AoD dolls in the past, I've not had any of their midi sculpts - just the bodies for some floating heads I had back then. I really loved the bodies and thought they were so well strung, designed and finished etc for the money. What I like about the AoD listings on Alices Collections now is scroll down the very old company photos to the bottom of the listing & see the blank sculpts and a more modern faceup - I find AoD's old listings very poor when it comes to seeing a doll's potential but these new photos are really good. So next on my list is Lan (such a sweet face!) and Jia Sha, who has a really cute little boy's face if you scroll down to see it. But first I'm watching tracking on my Shang Nai, who will be called Daisy Loretta Green, for no reason other than 'Daisy' popped into my head, someone on twitter suggested Loretta, and 'Green' came from a list of common English surnames! Styling her at around 13yrs old so really hoping that I've got the small bust option as requested.
I just ordered a Fei, a doll I've coveted since I got into the hobby last year, and I'm very excited!!
I am so sorry you lost you're dolls! that has to be so hard! I'm glad you can get more! I once lost all my stuff in a house fire in 2008, at least that was before I collected dolls, but still losing precious stuff like that is terrible. I hope you and your new dolls have a bright happy future! please show us them when they arrive!
Thank you @asukakanea @sluggoislit Please show pics of your Fei when you get her - she's got such a cute face
My Shang Nai arrived today and I am SO pleased with her in every way. Perfectly finished & strung and I love her faceup - so much nicer than the old promo pics! Pretty green eyes AoD Shang Nai by elve, on Flickr
Different wig for my Shang Nai (Daisy) as I wanted her to have a fringe/bangs like in her promo pics, since she's just around 13yrs old. Wig from Alices again really good value less than $10 - I got tired of trying to sweep the fringe off her eyes & thought the sideswept fringe looked a bit too mature - so very bravely (IMO LOL - I've ruined many good wigs this way) cut the fringe today! Before and after pics: (and yes she desperately needs a new tee shirt too but I made this one before I'd got her and her head was a lot bigger than I anticipated LOL) wig before after by elve, on Flickr
Just a pic of my Shang Nai, Daisy, looking adorable and ready for some summer fun! She's so cute I really love her - AoD did a great job with that faceup & she is so well strung too - creaky tight ATM but will no doubt loosen up & far preferable IMO to too loosely strung! top4 by elve, on Flickr
the face up does look amazing! it was the first thing I noticed. here shoes are really cute too. I've got to restring my AoD soon. I gotta buy new string. nothing is worse than when it's too loose!
Thanks @asukakanea I just looked at your Aod on profiles and wow she is an old girl no wonder her elastic's loose now - I know the feeling LOL - but good luck with the restring! I've only ever done 60cm restrings and they require so much strength (which I haven't got) I'm sticking to midi size dolls now One thing I've noticed about AoD sculpts is how many of them are gently smiling - they just look like nice happy dolls which I think is part of the appeal for me as so many dolls look so seriously miserable, they make me feel miserable too! Having said that I think Lan is next on my wishlist - if you scroll down on Alices Collections AoD listings, her newer style faceup is so sweet & not too tragic - I love that they've all got the blank sculpts photographed now too - it's hard to see past the original AoD promo photos sometimes as they're quite old now
I restrung himiko last year! but before that not so much. she is very old. I need to at some point sand her a bit she yellowed a little. I really love 1/4 size. they're just right. I'm getting a new restring hook. I lost my last one. the tension on a 1/3 must be so tough. I do love how they're gently smiling it's one of the reasons I got the fei model.
Does anyone have owner photo's of Cariata? I would love to see some pics of his sculpt but I can't find much : (
Just messaged Alices as all AoD dolls have vanished from their website today - I'm hoping it's just a glitch in the website
I see them just fine! Oh no I don't. The sections are empty. Edit: this morning they're not back up That's strange
@lutke I got email from Alice's today and they say that AoD are taking a 3 month break but will be back. I really hope so!
I hope so, too. There've been many companies that said they were temporarily closing and never came back.
I hope they come back! Alice Collections were the last/only official dealers! (That I know of) 1/4 AoD were my first (and once were my most owned). I like the 1st and 2nd version bodies (loved 1st faces but others grew on me) and haven't seen the 3rd body version in person but the photos I wasn't sure about. (Modifications/changes I love peanut joints and they changed, probably better poseability but less aesthetically appeasing to me personally) I never collected them all lol there were a few sculpts I haven't gotten (yet/hopeful).
Lan was one of my very first BJDs some 14 years ago now. I love her gentle smile. Summer Hat by Tom Beach, on Flickr
I'm impatiently waiting for the return of AoD to Alices Collections as I miss looking at them basically - I used to like trying to decide which doll to get next as they're all so cute! But it's a good thing really because to date I've always been guilty of buying more dolls rather than dressing and enjoying the dolls I have, so I actually had enough spare cash to buy some clothes from Alices Collections instead last month! AoD tend to have bigger than average feet and it's so disappointing when shoes don't fit, but I had high hopes for these sneakers and wasn't disappointed! They are plenty roomy enough for a boy midi too I think although don't quote me on that as I don't own any boys (yet LOL) shirt and sneakers by elve, on Flickr One reason I got my Shang Nai (Daisy) on the small bust is so she can wear boy's shirts as I love all the tiny details on shirts but she's the first doll I've had where the style fits the character, with her being a 13yr old girl. I bought a couple of other things for her too but didn't have time or energy to wrestle her into them today. The whole order took just over a fortnight from date of ordering, which is fantastic IMO Ugh I love her SO MUCH - she's just got the sweetest face New shirt for my lovely AoD Shang Nai (Daisy) by elve, on Flickr
Just checked Alices for the umpteenth time since June and Angel of Dream are back in the listings again! I've really missed them - planning my wish-list is one of my fave pastimes LOL
Chilly today in the UK so Daisy (AoD Shang Nai) is wearing a cardigan & legwarmers! T-shirt & legwarmers sewn by me - Cardigan, shoes and cropped jeans from Alices 1/4 boy clothing. Is she secretly longing to wear a dress though? cardigan weather by elve, on Flickr
Ooh don't tempt me I really like An, Lan, Jia Sha, & You (the elf) in midi size and I love Kim in 1/3 size (I had him years ago he's on my flickr - so cute) Also love Yuki and Qian (also had her) and Hui Xiang (also had her!) and Mo Lan - then in tiny size Meng Chu is really cute on that new body and there's the other body too the 'angel' body in 1/6 size and don't even get me started on the 90cm boys haha - Problem being I need a money tree or I need to somehow decide on JUST ONE
Hahaha? I totally get it! Their dolls are cute and affordable! And trying to decide get just one, it’s hard! Ah, the life of a BJD owner
Well I still haven't ordered any more dolls as I'm going to try getting some debts paid off first - you know, like the 62yr old 'grown up' I'm alleged to be LOL - Meanwhile got some more clothes for Daisy my shang nai - Nothing special, just basics - I wanted a plain shirt so I can build a school uniform from it. These clothes are all from the boy's section of Alices as she's on the small bust - Everything fits lovely and I also got some white leggings to go under the jeans, hoping to avoid staining - I put those inside the jeans before putting the jeans on her legs, to stop them rucking up inside. The shoes are way too big - about 1/4 inch spare room at the heel because I bought the 'big bb' size not being sure if 1/4 would fit - I know my SD AoD girl had big feet compared to the shoes on Alices so nothing fit. However these are such cute shoes and they stay on fine so they'll do - can always get some thick socks for her too! Kind of wishing I'd got her something a bit more 'fancy' for Christmas but somehow just can't see her in a dress and frilly stuff, much as I love that style! She looks cute whatever she wears anyway More new clothes by elve, on Flickr
I'm a grown up according to my government ID, but I have suspicions that's not actually true. I mean, every now and again I flirt with being Responsible Adult but it never sticks 100% of the time.
You could always dress her current outfit up a bit with a pretty belt, a fancy handbag and a necklace, or something like that. But I agree, she'll look great whatever you do. Pretty dolls are convenient, that way.
Could I possibly ask which resin color your Shang Nai is? I'm trying to see what AOD's resin colors are like and they dont have them on alice's site
Hi yes she's 'normal pink' but she is very very pale. Resin colours vary from batch to batch anyway so it's hard to predict
I see, thank you! I was trying to hybrid with an Asleep Eidolon head and I haven't seen anyone to compare the resins so far so I might just have to take the gamble.
Yes it's so hard to match resins but in real life your head is often a different colour to your body so it's not too bad IMO once clothes and wig are on - Main thing is get the neck circumference right so the head sits properly. AoD bodies are so nice for the money though!
That's very true now that I think about it, my face tone is quite different from my body and hands. And I agree, very affordable yet super nice sculpts!
Another pic of my lovely Daisy (shang nai) as I am really loving this outfit on her now I've added slouch socks and a big baggy (boys) cardigan to it (cardi from Alices 'boy tops') She is small bust but the cardigan would look fine on a bigger bust too IMO as I bought a 70cm for my busty Claudette as it's not the type of cardigan you'd fasten at the front anyway Daisy (AoD Shang Nai) by elve, on Flickr
