@Cattaya and BlackTulip213 I am also thinking about buying an AOD Yu Luo, but as you both say, the pictures aren't that reliable, and I also want to see some owner pictures.. Just to be sure that his face isn't the typical long-jaw-one from AOD >-< I did find some owner pictures on Flickr if you want to take a look, and from what I see he seems like a beautiful doll http://www.flickr.com/photos/joyker/sets/72157624108246671/
Kitty Blue> I like the dress, fuzzy stretchy fabric is always fun for costumes. And that one came out very nice! Eager to see what the final dress looks like. ^_^ PoeticSoul> Since I didn't get to comment on the other thread: LOVE the mods you made to Anna! Did you actually cut part of her head away for the gears? On that note, too, her name is great and so VERY Monster High. XD solitary agent> Yay, Robin! He looks rather happy to get his picture taken. ^_^ And, I wish I had some of my newer pics of Val uploaded, but here's one from a couple months ago, before his current faceup was completed. He was showing off his new shirts and this shot as my favorite for his ruffled one. ^_^
gr8story Successful make up expecting to see his full image. Just for spam, I would like to show some pics of my Li Ge, he has got Russain name, but I thing in english it souns like Benjamin
Wow, angelynx-prime, your girl looks wonderful with the traditional style. What about AoD hybrids? Are they welcome here too? Since there is this boy!Qing on a different company's body living here...
Okay I was here along time ago, but i wanted to post an update my TK (Tao Hoa Dao). It's been 8 months since I've got him and he's still my number one :-3 First of all, I've never restrung him and he still poses like new! I'm fortunate enough (with all the spills he's taken) to still have all of his fingers X-D Sadly, I cant comment on what clothing lines fit him because I make all of his clothes. I those of you waiting for your dolls find this inspiring :-D
Absolutely~ I think the threads are normally oriented more towards the head sculpts than the bodies - people with hybrids more often post them in the company threads for their heads, that is.
One of my girls in here is a hybrid. One of my other dolls stole her body (and is so spoiled she usually gets whatever she wants) and gave her the one that she was using before the theft occurred. So my girl is now on a Nabi Kiss body by Garden of Dolls (the Nabi Kiss body is single jointed, and no longer made), though she still has her original hands. I rather love her new look, too. Hrm...I really should get something made to at least throw on my newest girl, so I can get photos of the two of them to share.
I got a new sofa and put together a new "wall" to photograph my boys in front of, and Robin also got new eyes recently. When I was putting them in one of his eyelashes came loose, and as I was trying to reposition it I thought "Hmm...he'd probably look good without them!" so I took them off. He looks overly serious in this photo though, haha. I think soon I might try to mod him a little...sand down his chin and nose a bit. I'm a little scared though u_u;
Thank you solitary agent and Ayas-Shadow, then I can show a pic of Tizian, my Qing Hybrid Boy ^^ here he is with his friend in the garden ^^ Also with a DZ Raphael, just like your Robin, solitary agent. By the way, I have read that many doll owners even prefer their boy dolls without eye-lashes, so it probably works just fine ^^
I have 3 AoD boys and 2 have lashes and one doesn't. The one that doesn't is OT for this thread, but when he came to me he had lashes and it just didn't suit him. He looks so much better without them. My other 2 (Chi & Min sculpts), I couldn't imagine them without lashes.
My boy dolls either have, or do not have, the upper eye lashes depending on their characters. If they're meant to be more 'man', not into the metro sexual thing, then they most likely do not have upper lashes. If they're into the metro sexual thing, and all about their appearance, then there's a good chance they WILL have those upper lashes, very rarely would they not. If they are guys who like having the ability to pass as girls from time to time (as one of my boys does) then they have lashes. Sexual orientation plays a role in whether they have lashes or not for me, too. Sort of an 'easy' way for those who know the characters, but not as intimately as I do, to be able to look at a doll, or it's photo, and be able to make a few quick judgments, that will usually be correct. Like, my gay boy, who sometimes passes for a girl, has long, extravagant lashes, like my girls do. My ladies man who is all about women, sports, and horror movies doesn't have any upper lashes at all. My bi-sexual boy (who I don't own yet) will have lashes, but they will be much shorter than my gay boy has. My ghost boy who is from the Victorian era (unless I decide to change the era he lived, and died, in) will also have lashes of the shorter variety. My geeky scientist won't have upper lashes at all (unless my hubby wants him to, as it's his character...but that would totally throw my 'which boys have lashes, and which don't thing out the window...even if it only makes sense to me.) My total pretty boy will have decent, thick lashes. If any of that makes sense to anyone other than me. The short of it is...lashes on my male dolls are going to be mixed between long, effeminate, short and male, or totally missing, depending on how I see the characters.
My AOD Li Ge finally arrived, and with him was the additional head from the May promo. I absolutely love her, but I don't know who she is. Can anyone identify her?
Carol Hensley: Could your mystery sculpt possibly be an An? The eye shape looks very similar, as well as the width of the nose, and the size of the mouth. All your dollies look lovely! I have a fondness of AOD, although I haven't bought one of their dolls... yet. C:<
Carol: Congrats on finally getting your doll!! I wish I could help with the mystery sculpt, but I'm awful with telling a lot of sculpts. DX
Dollblue, your boys are lovely! I think DZ Raphael is such an underrated sculpt ;A; And my Robin, well, I've NEVER seen another AoD Xun on here! D: I've seen one on DeviantArt, as a girl... As for the eyelashes, Robin is technically gay since his lover, Paul, is male, but he never was attracted to men beforehand so he calls himself "Paulsexual" He's a swordfighter and pretty manly for the most part, so I think the no-lashes look works for him. :3 I'll have to post a close-up once I fix the paint inside his eyes, a little bit chipped off with the eyelashes but it should be an easy fix.
D...forDolls: If you're on the fence about the tan and wondering what the tan looks like next to the NY, here you go! Moswen is a tan Chi and Kijika is a NY Adonis (he's also an SD and why he looks larger than Moswen). The tan is very nice (and not as dark as the company shots on the website show it to be). I would say that the way they look in the photo is pretty true to what they look like in reality. Moswen's face-up and body work is by Angel Toast and Kijika's face-up is by AmyAngel. I did get both of them with company defaults, but only because I knew it'd be several months before I could get them to the people I wanted to do their face-ups and I didn't want blank dolls in-house at that time.
I got around to modding Robin! Here's a before and after shot - this one's black and white because my shading on the new part of his faceup makes him look a little "muddy" in closeups. I'll probably redo his faceup entirely after things calm down a bit and I have time to practice (I'm moving soon.) He really looks pretty good in person, but a close up photo tends to magnify flaws Anyway, though it's not perfect, I'm pretty pleased with how I was able to change his face shape. I think he looks more like the character he's supposed to be now.
*waves hand madly* I have a Min and I absolutely adore him. This is Jaiseki (face-up by the wonderful AngelToast). I think he has a rather serene look. He's wearing 14mm eyes and while not a dreaming style, I think they're a little more closed than average. But I also think that adds to his serene expression. If there's anything you want to know specifically, I can try and answer. As far as standing/posing goes, my AoD's are my most solid (and I have a MNF).
I got him directly from AoD. I actually got his head as part of a free head event when I bought his father, Moswen (Chi). There is a photo limit per post, so if you want to PM me with your email, I can send you more photos. But here's a random one....
Actually I've always loved your Rao PoeticSoul! Before I actually knew she was a Rao actually, in the gallerys (I sound like a stalker >_<) She doesn't have a name, and actually I have no idea what color she is! Her faceup will be redone and, well, she needs a lot of work! Suedeing, restringing, and I need to apoxy a stopper in her head for the s-hook. But actually, I'm really happy with her even with all that!
Uber-Kitten I congratulate!!!!! Rao it is really wonderful ^_^ Here mine Rao (name Ren). She succub =)
Sullaure that outfit is gorgeous! Okay, so my Rao has the head where the s-hook strings up to a loop on the headcap, I think I can make it so that the s-hook sits in the neckhole, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the headcap on now? I'll likely use tape for now but I'd like something more permanent? Also, the middle part of her torso, there's a piece that glues into the top of it, right? So, say it's stuck in the top part of her torso, I can just glue it back in where it goes right? Omg this girl needs to go through major surgery @_@
If you trust someone with your dolly and some apoxy, you could have them add some make-shift headcap magnets to her. I had a friend do that to my girl. I think I posted pictures a while back...
My girl has the loopy headcap as well and I have the bottom of her s-hook sitting comfortably against her neck hole...I just took a separate little short piece of elastic and threaded it through the loop in the headcap, tied the ends in a knot and then attached it to the top hook of the s-hook and it works perfectly.
Poeticsoul, I love your modded Rao. She was one of the first face-up Raos that I found when I was looking for an example of what she could be turned into. At first I was disappointed when I tried to find some samples of her because there haven't been a lot of good pictures. When I found your and the little succubus, I was pleased that she could be modded and still look whole, like the mod fit her or was a part of her. Thank you for posting such lovely pictures. Carol, I'm glad that it was by chance that you happened upon yours and were so pleased! I didn't like the initial shots of her that were on ebay when I looked. I think the face-up was crap, LOL. I saw her on the AoD site and she looked a bit better but still, there aren't very many good pictures to show her versatility there. I had tried to find her here which is how I found this thread and the waiting room (YAY). I think the first thing I need to do is give her a face-up and body blush and try to post some detailed pics of the sculpt, not to show off my skills, but to show off what you can do with her. I'm a relative nube and had to work really hard to find some good shots. Maybe I'll be able to help someone else who is looking for a good sculpt have an easy choice . Now that I have been able to talk to you guys, I feel very confident in my choice. Now I have a HUGE favor to ask one of you who already has one. I want to make her a little white dress. I have the material and obviously the time while I'm waiting for her to come. I thought it would be nice if she had something to wear since everything I have is for an SD sized boy, LOL. Would one of you take some measurements of the doll for me or send me a link to where it is in greater detail. I need the measurement that goes under her armpits and over her breasts on her chest, not the bust. I want to make sure that when I put my button on the back, it seats tightly where I want it to. I can't tell the difference between her bust and the flat of her chest either from the pictures I have found to make it fit right. I just wanted above and below the bust so I don't make it too small. Thank you in advance and I promise the first shots she will be wearing it.
So now I have the wig I needed for my new girl... I have the cloth I need to make her clothes... I have everything to get started but Tiamet is still pending on AoD . I discovered that "pending" is really another word for one of the lesser rings of hell.
I want to try to make some Thai fisherman pants for my Chi before he comes, so I was wondering if anyone with a 'boy' body could grab one measurement for me--basically the crotch measurement, from the waist in front to the waist in back. I'm planning on making them roomy, but it'd make me feel better if I had some idea!
You're in luck! Not only do I have a Chi, his clothing style (and the style of my Awh'anise in general) consists of vests and Thai fisherman pants. I can give you the measurements you're after and if you don't mind waiting over the weekend, I can scan my pattern and send that to you as a PDF. When I make them, I generally cut out 2 sets usually in contrasting colours and sew them together to make reversible outfits. I sew them on the flat and trim the edges with satin ribbon folded in half (basically bias tape). This makes all seams invisible and gives a nice finish. This is Moswen (he's a tanned Chi) in burgundy and royal blue This is Jaiseki (NY Min) in robin's egg blue and green leopard Jaiseki in red and white
I'd love to see that pattern too, if you don't mind sharing. I've been wanting to make some thai fisherman pants for my girl and I'm sure I can get them to fit if they wouldn't automatically fit, given how roomy those things can be. XD I made a pair of thai fisherman pants recently for an SD, but I must've gone with a different style as mine didn't have open sides. O.O
Sure, no problem. I think you'd only have to adjust the pattern a little to fit the shorter girl body. It's very forgiving regards to size. I will be away this weekend and I can only scan stuff at work so as long as you don't mind waiting until Monday, I can do that. I have several pairs of fisherman's pants for myself. They're among my favourite things to wear in the summer because of the open sides leaving them nice and cool.
Iron_Dog: Please, just share the pattern with all of us, if you don't mind! I'd love to see it, too! I'd especially love to see directions on the pattern showing which sides you sew along to do the reversible ones...I'm not sure I understand with just a written description. *totally a visual/picture learner*
Can do! I'm not sure how well I can do with the directions as my spatial reasoning is completely borked up *sigh*, but I've done the pattern enough so that I should be able to give semi-decent directions on what to do. It may also help if I photograph the completed outfits I've done. If I have time/am motivated enough, I can see about maybe doing some kind of tutorial, but no promises there as I've yet to find the time to finish sewing some outfits I cut out for my 1/6th Twins about... a month ago *guilty look*.
Thank you so much, that would be fantastic! I don't mind waiting at all, and your pictures are super helpful! The bias tape is a great idea.
Iron_dog: I'll be happy for whatever you can share with us, and if I have any questions once I have time to make some pants myself, I'm sure it won't hurt me any to PM you with them and wait for an answer! And I know that pictures of the pants not on the doll would really help me, too!
LadyGanesh: I usually buy satin ribbon from the Dollar Store as its only $1/roll (usually about 2 meters worth) as bias tape is more expensive and you usually get less for your money. Yes, it takes a little time to pin and iron the ribbon in half, but it's worth it in my opinion. Ayas-Shadow: Taking pics of the finished pants should be easy enough and with any luck, I can do that on Sunday afternoon. And yes, you're more than welcome to PM/email me if you have any questions.
Okay, I have the pattern I use for my AoD boys for the fisherman's pants as well as the original pattern I modified to better suit what I wanted. I can post them but the pattern I made didn't turn out quite as clear as I'd hoped *grrrr*. I also needed to convert it from a PDF to a jpeg to be able to upload it to photobucket and I think the quality suffered somewhat further because of that. I didn't have time to cut out any new pieces this weekend past so I could show what I meant about the outfit being reversible. I don't see my being able to steal any time to do that in the next 2 weeks either due to family obligations and Xmas right around the corner. However, if you guys would like me to post the pattern(s) along with my possibly convoluted explanation, I can do that on my livejournal and throw the link here. I think a tutorial would be helpful, too, but that likely wouldn't happen until after Xmas.
Okay, here's the link to my LJ where I have posted the patterns. The pattern I did is specifically for AoD boys, but a little tweaking and it could work for a number of other doll sizes. http://2metaldog.livejournal.com/474598.html If you want the actual PDF/JPG, email me at silverirondog at gmail dot com and it shall be yours. I'm going to try and do a tutorial for this, but it may be a while before I can get to it just because of the timing of the season right now. If there are questions, feel free to email me to ask and I'll do my best to explain.
I hope it works for you. I'll try and get some close up pics of completed outfits but the lighting is shoddy in my apartment once the sun goes down.
Myrretah - Is THAT where they were holding my dolls for all those months? "Pending" seemed endless! Actually, the first doll shipment never did arrive, but AOD stepped up and sent replacements that came very quickly, so I can't complain too much!
Yes, Carol... Pending is the greatest evil that can be visited upon those who wait. Now I shall have shoes, material for a dress, stockings, hair, and I have handmade her eyes though I may have to make another set if they don't fit... and still pending. I have new strings and a face protector and pigments on the way, with some fine white suede set aside just for her... and pending!!!!! ghaaaaaaa pending. I have been told that she will ship probably just after christmas so I have hope. I can't wait!!!!!
Myrretah - I feel your pain! The only good thing about the wait was that by the time he arrived, he had abunch of new clothes waiting for him!
Okay, here she is in her brand new persona of Cyber Hagane, a Bey Blader (from the cartoon and groovy spinning battle tops of the same name.) I love this new character (insisted upon by an 11 year old boy!) He even helped name her and also helped design her wig (which he told me had to stick up like that or she wouldn't be a real blader.) Leave it to my ever so versatile Rao to pull off yet another unique character change. I love her so much!
Poetic: I love her! Again! *laughs* She makes an awesome Bey Blader. I never really got all that into the original series, though my sisters did. I was REALLY into the tops, though, and collected them for a little while, had a battle arena, and everything. They were way TOO fun to play with! And getting to build them and all that just made it all better. Now you've got me wondering if I still have a few of mine left in a box somewhere....might be fun to teach my oldest how to play if my arena is still in one piece....
I'm so excited!!!! I think she might be done. I took some horrible night time inside bad light pictures so you could see her. I am so pleased with her face-up and how she came out! When I first got her I thought she looked too happy and I was SO upset because I really thought the sculpt would be OK. I kept faith that if I just worked with her, somehow she would be OK... and she came out just how I had hoped. I hope you love her as much as I do. I did my best Here's Tiamet: Sorry for that last one. I just liked how her lill toes came out, and the light tracery of veining on her feet. I have one picture that shows her hands really well on my flicker too, but you can totally see one of her breasts in the background so I will have to take another shot once I have some clothes on her. I hope you like how she came out despite the lighting and sad night time pictures...
Myrretah, she looks absolutely wonderful! Her lips are positively divine, as are her freckles and little toes. I can't wait to see how you dress her and find out about her character. Tiamet is a lovely and unusual name, so I'm really looking forward to learning more about her.
Thank you so much PoeticSoul. I'm so glad that you like her. She's an old soul in a young body. Tonight she gets undies... and maybe a dress depending upon how much gumption I have after a day at work and a few hours convincing my child he needs to practice all his instruments, LOL. Oh, and my son thought your bey blader design was AWSOME!
Thank you so much Ladyganesh it means a lot to know you like her especially since we spent so much time waiting together. I can't wait to see what you turn yours into
My Rao, Sasha, recently received a new face up so I wanted to share, I'm so happy with how she looks now! ♥
I changed my Rao's look slightly too, and I am more than happy now with how she looks. Feels like this is more her than before..I only changed her hair eyes and clothing and I think she already changed much with only that...so some pics! When I just got her, no face up... Just got her face with her faceup back! Back to blonde with 2 different eyes And how she is now, I feel like this is more her!
