I'm pretty pleased with him, even if he is still missing his head cap. He came together pretty quickly, even though I didn't have a plan for him.

I'm still working on his story, and trying to figure out who he is. He's not been very forthcoming about who he is - however he's definitely shown a love for dress clothes. He may be the one that finally pushes me to order a suit (or at least a vest).

Does anyone know what wig size Chi takes? I'm really worried that the wig he's been using will be too small once he finally gets a new head cap.

 

I have a Chi but he's from 2008 and I understand that they changed the sculpts ever so slightly between then and now. Moswen wears a 7/8 and it fits him just fine. I'm sorry but I don't remember where I got the wig from though as that's a good... 6 years ago. I have recently received a Monique wig for another doll and it is just so soft that I'm toying with the idea of getting Moswen a new wig from Monique.

 

[MENTION=28890]Iron_Dog[/MENTION] I appreciate your reply! The wig Cade's been wearing is a 6-7 from ForMyDoll, and I'm hoping it'll stretch enough to still fit him. There's a 7 and an 8 stamped inside his head on either side of the S-hook, but I wasn't sure if that was his wig measurement or not

 

I don't think I'd be able to get a 6/7 on Moswen's head. But, like I mentioned, AoD has changed the sculpt a little so it's possible the more current head is a smidge smaller than their old ones.

 

Actually, Maren (my Chi) is from about the same time as Moswen, and has been wearing a 6/7 Kemper wig all this time, after I didn't like his original one. It's a snug fit, but it got on him and stayed there, so assuming head sizes didn't change too terribly much (and didn't go bigger), a 6/7 might actually fit, [MENTION=64602]Alchemist's Fire[/MENTION]!

I really need to get through all the blank dolls here so I can refresh my two AoDs. I love them, but they just look so old against all my newer ones... and it's really the difference in faceup and blushing work I'm doing since I did the two of them ages ago. They need the full spa treatment, a complete cleaning and full blushing with new faceups, new strings, new eyes and new wigs.

I really need to work on his backstory, I barely know who the little guy is. He's got a wardrobe and some shoes, but I wanna get him a few more things, maybe s'more dress shirts. I'm just sad one of the pairs of big clunky boots I have didn't fit him, his calves were too thick.

Also, has anyone else noticed the really awesome torso/pelvic joint these guys have? I haven't seen that in a waist joint before!

 

Mine are both quite old, actually (both from 2008), so if you care to share some pictures of the jointing, [MENTION=64602]Alchemist's Fire[/MENTION], I'd love to see how it's modified from the old style!

 

I have absolutely no idea how old my boy is, and no idea how to tell. He was something a friend got in a trade, and she doesn't collect MSDs so she just gave him to me (cause I have mostly MSDs). I don't know anything about him except that he's a Chi and apparently he's normal yellow xDDD

But yes, I will try and get a half-decent photo of that joint.

Oh oh, and I found out I can get a head cap for him through Alice's Collections for $8!

 

Hi all! I've kind of dropped from the hobby for a while but I've been getting back into it slowly and I'd like to get my 2nd first doll from AOD but...... The site is down for "stocktaking"? Is this common for them, how long does it last? I know I can order through Alice collections but I wanted to compare pricing/shipping from the AOD site...

 

Kemper wigs are much stretchier than most wigs I have quite a few of them on some of my dolls. I think I had to get a 7-8 monique wig though for my Rao. 101i74 I noticed that a week ago as well so not quite sure.

 

It's been down for several months, 6 or more, not sure what is going on.

 

No not that long, I remember looking at the site at most a couple months ago, everything was there. I really want to order but the site being down makes me wonder if they're still gonna make and sell the dolls. Anybody here order in the last month?

Edit: I just sent a message to AC to see if they know anything. Will let you guys know what's up.

I was one the site about... 2 weeks ago and everything was fine. I didn't order anything but stuff was displayed and I was able to navigate no problem.

Hello everyone, please excuse my newby noob noobishness. I recently ordered my first BJD, yay, and shes from AOD, I was wondering if anyone has a Chun Zhe sculpt? Thats the one I've ordered but I've found it hard to find anything of her that doesnt have the factory faceup.
All your dolls are so beautiful, I really cant wait till she comes!!

 

Not the best photo, but I just finished a new dress for my girl, Egami. She's a dollzone Annie hybrid on an aod body, in white skin.

 

My AOD An which has gotten some eye modding and is harshly yellowed from previous owner. He's cutsomized to look like Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians, he just needs a new wig sometime soon

Strange question, has anyone considered sanding down the nipples on the girl sculpt? XD they poke out just alittle too much for my liking but I'm scared to do anything!

 

Mysteriousmage: Roxanna looks lovely in her dress. (The lighting on this photo makes it look like her skin is tan skin And I have to say that tan skin would look good on a shangnai sculpt. What do you think?)

Isolda13: Amai is soo sweet! Actually, I don't like Shangnai with blond hair. But this sweet outfit and her hair style and the color match perfectly for Amai!

Yes I truly want to sand those nipples!!! But I'm scared as well...

 

It's a darn shame that AoD stopped making their tan because it's such a lovely colour. Really stable, too, as Moswen (Chi) is from late 2008 and has been all over the place, indoors and out and even on trips with me (including one out of the country) and I can't tell any difference between his tan and the tan of the head I got at the same time that has been in a box since the day I got it (I was sent the wrong colour for the head, so have never used it). I hope they bring back their tan at some point.

 

[MENTION=67059]h_kokeshi[/MENTION] : I don't like her in very blonde but the honey blonde I quite like. I was borrowing a wine coloured one when I first got her and that really suited the resin tone. My friend that does face ups says she wants to try mods so I might allow her to do it!

Iron_Dog : I've never seen AoD tan resin! Didn't know they even did it

 

They did but they stopped offering it about... 2 years ago? Their sister company, Doll-Love, also offered the same shade of tan but I hear that they've also stopped offering it. It's sort of a light butterscotch colour and quite natural looking as a tan.

This is Moswen (2008 tan) with Kijika (AoD/LE Doll Adonis collab in NY from 2009)

 

Thanks h_kokeshi~ I agree that a Tan Shangnai would be lovely. it really is too bad that they stopped with that resin color.

Isolda13, your Shangnai is also great! I would NOT have recognized her as a Shangnai. Love how different she looks!

Mysteriousmage, I got my friend to do the face up and she's meant to be a young teen so needed soft features. I look at the stock photo and get shocked at how sultry she looks

 

Doll-Love and AoD are sister companies. For a while there was quite the difference between their MSD bodies (AoD was much more mature and muscled and I adore the way they look) but after AoD re-did their sculpts, the bodies for their MSD's are more similar now (skinnier and much less muscular). I actually have a DL MSD boy as well from... 2011? so I can most definitely say the bodies from back then were different between the 2 companies.

Esa, my You girl, got a new outfit a couple of days ago, as the start of a full makeover I'm giving her:

She's one of my first dolls, and I've had her since 2008; she still has one of my earliest faceups and her original stringing, so next up, I'm going to be taking her apart for a full cleaning, blushing her, giving her some new strings, and finishing up her wig! (It's also a new wig she just received recently, since her old one was looking a bit ratty, and never fit quite right anyway.)

 

Just throwing myself out here to see if you've gotten your order or not? I've been wanting to order for a while but since their site still seems down for me? How did you order, through Alice Collection? :3

 

This poor thread is so quiet... so I'll toss in another shot of Esa. I started her makeover tonight; to my surprise her leg strings aren't as bad as I expected, for her age, so I'll probably be keeping those! Her arm string is still fairly stretchy, but pulls out way too far (and her arms fell whenever I posed her) so that'll get replaced, and I'll see how I feel about her legs when I do that.

She's gained a little dinginess over the years that's coming off with a good scrub of alcohol and magic eraser (it's also taking down a bit of her shinyness, and her blushing will take the rest of it); luckily 2008-me sealed her head well before doing her faceup, so it came off fairly easily (even the stuff in her ears and lips). It's going to take a couple of days for me to get her fully scrubbed, washed, and ready for the base layers of sealant, but it's nice to see parts of her already freshened up, and her face blank and ready to be redone!

This is, of course, her old faceup, from the photoshoot I gave her before setting her aside to take apart.

And here's Esa post-refreshing; it was nice to see how overall stable her resin color actually was (in spite of how yellow she looked before). Her faceup was one of the few I did with MSC UV-Cut (I think I only managed one can of it in my entire time doing my own faceups), but when I took it off and scrubbed all the "age" off her body, her head and body were as perfect of matches as they were the day I got her. Now I'll just have to hope that Maren (my WS Chi) comes as clean as she did!

Hi Artirose and welcome to DoA and the world of BJDs. I would advise you to be extremely careful in buying arbitrary and unidentified dolls from eBay sellers. Regretfully our delightful hobby is being sullied by recasters who purchase or borrow desirable dolls and then make copies which are sold much cheaper than the originals. Yours may be completely legitimate but please do be careful and please don't knowingly purchase a recast doll. Knowledge is your friend here. Cultivate some contacts in your local BJD community if you have one....

My very first and very loved bjd is AOD Xun. I would post some pics, but I am new to the site and haven't quite got the hang of that yet. However a thumbnail of Xun appears as my profile pic and my avatar. I guess that will have to do for now. He started out as kind of a sensitive shy guy, but now with a new wig and clothes he is just "to cool for school" !

 

Welcome [MENTION=70421]Zoisite[/MENTION]! Xun is very cute.

Here is my AOD Qing Willow in vintage clothing. The 16" Little Miss Revlon and Candy Fashion Doll clothes from the 1960s work well for her. I have also found patterns for her from that era.
