Angel of Dream (AOD) 1/4 size discussion thread Part 1

May 15, 2007

    1. The magnets aren't repelling, so I assume they're in the right way. I've tried twisting the headcap around upside down to see if that helps, and I've even swapped Chen's witn Min's and it's still pretty bad. And I got jipped of a pillow! D<

      I was thinking that maybe the magnets are too deep... his wig is a Fwig so there's no elastic to help hold his head on. I'll see if I can dig the magnet out then and reglue it, opefully that'll help. Should I try sticking a needle in there or something? xD

    2. I'm not sure how to pop the magnets out especially when they're in too deep. I think there's some threads in the customizing section with tips on how to get a magnet out (usually when it's put in wrong), but I think the same methods would apply although you may need to do more digging to get it out.

    3. Alright, thanks both of you! I'll go check them out and let you guys know how it goes. xD Hopefully I'll be able to post pics soon after slapping a face on 'em.

    4. Anise had this problem (tho not as extreme it seems), but I solved it by adding another magnet on top. Because they connect positive to negative it ends up facing the right way and was able to connect the gap. Her headcap is still looser than Alise's but it's perfectly acceptable to me...

    5. Robin's headcap falls off much more easily than my other dolls' do, taking the wig with it. But it doesn't happen if he's just sitting around, only if my cat attacks his wig or something.

      I remember reading about putting the piece in the fridge but after that... no idea |D

    9. Fairy boy costume! Cute!

      So super late but here's Rhythm, finally. xD

    10. ooooh, loverly Die boy!

    11. Arigatou~
      Now I can finally update my sig, yay! xD

    12. Sullaure: wowie! how did you attach her horns?

    13. Kathami : Thanks! =)
      At first there were magnets in horns and on a head under a wig,
      But they didn't maintain weight of horns.
      Therefore I have pasted horns to a wig on glue

      My boys have a bed now. :)

    15. That was a good idea to send them samples of what you wanted the faceup to look like. I asked for the faceup with my first doll, but didn't know enought to send pictures, and I wasn't very happy with the results.

    16. May I make a request to see the arm joints on someones doll? I just cleaned and restrung my boy, but now his arms are acting weird. -.- I may have put the joints in backwards, but want to make sure it's not just the elastic.

    17. I went and pulled one of Robin's arms out of his shirt to take a couple of shots. :lol: Here you go, both sides:

    18. He's lovely. Your faceup is terrific- I love the eyebrows

    19. Does anyone else have Lan? I've heard wonderful and awful things about AOD so I'm a but nervous! I fell in love with her so decided to go for it, but I'm still new to this so I hope I've made the right choice.
      I'd love to hear from you!
      Xxx[/QUOTE]
      My first BJD was an AOD Wang zi, and she's still my favorite doll. She poses beautifully and stands so well. Since then, I've gotten three more AODs, including a wonderful Lan, and like them better than my more expensive dolls. Don't be nervous - you're going to love her.

    20. *waves hi* I havent had any dolly time lately. But hopefully soon I can snap some pics of Ariana and her what 4th faceup? I don't know if this one is right either but here closer. Lol

    21. Thanks so much. Now I definitely know I put Tobi's' arm joints in backwards. ( DX I don't want to fight the elastic again.)
      My thanks to you and Robin who lets me see his joints. :3

    22. I have to say i like AOD a lot my Lily is a Liu Yin. and she is just georgous.
      And she is very easy to pose and such luck. Hope they work out for you good.

    23. May I ask, has anyone gotten a Tao Hua Dao, yet?

    24. Hello everyone!
      Just to share my two cents, I've an AOD Min and he's great XD Perhaps the only peeve I have about him is the poseability of his arms... kinda limited compared to the minifee and dollzones I have.

      Other than that, everything about him is just wonderful :P

    25. Hey all;
      I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but does anyone know how to choose the free head for the event? I didn't see an option for it, or anywhere to mention which one I want. Or is it randomly chosen? :/

    26. whats the difference between Chen and Min, they look totally the same to me?

    27. I recall someone doing a side-by-side comparison of the two months back, if you feel up to digging. I forget what the differences are right now, though.

    28. think I found it page 63 :-)

    29. In my opinion, Min has slantier eyes. Not sure about the nose, but AOD's lips seem to be the same.

    30. I haven't been in here for a long while. Just wanted to leave my oppinion on AOD dolls. I have both Rao and Wang Zi and I love them both, well accept I'm not to certain about his face, I kinda like the look of Min better. But I think they pose fantastically...of course the only other dolls I have to compare to are my Resinsouls (which in my oppinion don't pose so bad either with a littl hot glue sueding). I don't think I have any hot glue sueding on either of mine. If only they came in some fantasy colors like RS they would be my absolutely favorite mold/company. Well here is some spamage of my Rao, Poisyne with her first faceup...it will be changed soon since I did this just for the Mardi Gras contest she was in.
      [IMG]

    31. It looks to me like Chen has slightly narrower eyes, while Min's lips have a little upturn at the corners that Chen doesn't.

    32. I guess Chen's eyes are sharper, more triangularish in shape, while Min's is just... narrow. It's more like half of an oval shape.
      By the way, I have a Min and I'm fairly happy with his poseability, however one thing that annoys me slightly is that somehow he can't touch his face. When I try to make him do so, his hand just shifts towards his opposite shoulder.
      Does anyone else have this problem? o.o

    33. yeah I think Min's eyes are more narrow, I was also wondering if Ming was the same as Min. I am so confused lol! I am just weighing up whether I want Min or Chen!
      (I previously had a Min see Avatar - I could hardly tell the difference between Min and Chen lol)
      My previous Min used to have the same problem with touching his face, I would have to hold his arm, he was terribly kicky though, but that was around 2 years when I owned him. I had a tanned Chen at the beginning of the year, and his posablilty was fab. The bodies had improved very well over a 2 year period, and he wasn't kicky!

    34. Sindysparkles, I got my Min in Feb this year though. He isn't exactly kicky but it's just the arm that has a few issues XD
      I wonder why...?

    35. some bodies can be a real pain, but aod not as bad as bobobie bodies, they just go plop on the floor lol!

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      I fell in love with li ge, esp after seeing your photos, def a boy I think, would love more pics anyone!
    36. Hi everyone(:
      Here's a picture of my Min, Kieran, since my phone started working again.
      Sorry for the crappy quality though. I don't have photoshop on this computer...
      [IMG]
    37. I've heard that from quite a few people about Bobobie bodies. Out of all of the Resinsoul/Bobobie I have only 2 of them ever really fall while I'm taking photos and those two are not strung with the proper elastic, other than that mine have posed just fine for me as attested in all my photo stories. But on the other hand I do agree that when comparing them (BBB/RS) to AOD ...AOD's do pose a lot better. My Rao and Wang Zi are awesome posers I just wish I had more time to get them put together the way I want their characters to be.
      He is very cute, I'm a fan of the Min sculpt saw one in person and thought he was gorgeous. I like the name Kieran, one of my boys is named that but spelled Kherian.
    38. Wish I could join in about how well the AOD bodys pose, but my Wang Zi is just too tightly strung to pose the way I want him to. =.= But I'm getting him restrung next month, so hopefully that will help. :3
      Ooh, Kieran is very cute. :D
    39. Hey everyone! My Lan just arrived at long last!!! I need a little help though as I took her head off (by mistake) to replace her eyes and now I can't get it on again properly! What do I do with the S-hook? Please help! Xxx
    40. Pull the s-hook up through her neck, then turn it so that the hook rests in the notches on the hole, keeping her head on.
    41. Thanks Kindra. It's so stiff though! How do I pull the S hook up far enough without breaking the head or body?? Pliers? Please help! Xxx
    42. Pliers help. Or a helpful man. Lol. I've never broken a doll by pull on the strings so you should be fine.
    43. Thank you, I'll get my husband to help :p wish me luck! Xxx
    44. Can I share my new Lan with you? I have yet to name her, but think this may wait until I find her 'right' wig :)
      I'm so pleased to have her home!!
    45. Teacups and Teddies, congrats on getting her home and fixing her up! She looks great~ I think the colour really suits her. Hope you find a fitting name for her soon!
      And thanks for the nice comments on Kieran, guys(:
    46. Thank you Sanguine :) I love the pink wig on her in this pic but I actually just bought her a light brown wig as the pink one is waay too fussy. I hope the long brown will suit her just as much :)
    47. She's beautiful! I love her soft, natural faceup. Did you do it yourself?
    48. Usually, if I want my WangZi to touch her face, I have to use a rubber band to keep her arm in position!
    49. Carol I'm so pleased that you like her! I wish I could do f-ups, but AOD actually did this one for me! I sent them some pictures of natural face-ups in the style that I wanted for my girl, and I think they did a great job! The detail on her lower lashes and eyebrows is stunning XD
      I love how the same dolls can look so different xx
    50. shes very sweet looking! <3
    51. This isn't the best photo of my Wang Zi guy and gal, but it was the only one I could find of them together. Typical siblings, they won't co-operate!
      [IMG]
    52. Does anyone have a Li Ge boy? I would really love to see photos. I'm hoping he'll make a good boy, but I haven't seen anything but the promotion pictures from the company, and they don't always show what the face really looks like. Thanks!
    53. aww Carol your dolls are all so lovely! I think the set-up looks amazing! I'm currently having a hard time photographing my MSD girls :(
    54. I'm also waiting to see some Li Ge models. I like how the face shape is a bit more European; it makes the mold unique.
      I do wish that they would make a more mature-looking 1/4 side male face, especially since the girls are so much more physically mature! Otherwise I would feel like my girl is robbing the cradle, hehe.
    55. I totally agree! And the guys photograph even younger than they look in person.
    56. Hey everyone, it's been a while since I've poked my head in here but I've got a question. I finally mustered up the courage to unstring my doll for the first time and everything went fine (he just needed his joints cleaned out quite badly >_>) and I have him re-strung and I also tightened him a bit.
      However, now his head and waist seem to be more...floppy. I figure that would be only if he was under-strung but I know he isn't, so is there another reason for this? Possibly strung wrong? Too tight? :sweat
      Thanks in advance for answering my newbie-tastic question.
    57. I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself, since I got an AoD mini head last week! I have a Bing Sheng head, that I bought on the Marketplace here. I would have a box opening to link to...but my husband forgot I'd bought a head, and opened to box to see what it was. Silly man. So I have no photos yet.
      I have a question, though. I realize that the 'lip' around the headcap probably keeps wigs on well, but does the headcap being so...large...compared to the head itself look at all strange under wigs? Especially shorter ones? And if so...has anyone ever modded the cap by sanding it down to sit more flush to the head?
      Right now, I plan to put my head on a RS body...but that could change to putting him on an AoD body depending on what I can afford by the time he NEEDS his own body. I have enough RS and BBB dolls at home to be sure that the resin color difference to the new BBB NS matches my head well enough to not bother me. Any thoughts on other companies that have a decent resin match, and will look good with a collection of slim minis? I mean...I want him to fit in with my slim minis, but maybe be more muscular than they are, if I can find a good match, in a good price range.
    58. The headcap problem is one that I've seen on other dolls before. My Rhianna doesn't have much of an issue, but my sweetie's AoD SD has a bad case of it. We don't have short wigs, so I'm not sure on that front, but it doesn't seem to cause an issue on longer wigs. Congratz on your AoD head! I'm really not sure what companies would have good slim minis in a lower price range, or I'd make a recommendation. Sorry!
    59. I'm not sure what "lip" you're talking about. All my AoD's have their head cap flush with the head part. The only issue I have with a head cap is that Jaiseki's (Min) head cap has the magnets countersunk too deep so the magnetic contact is crap-tacular. Oddly enough, the other Min head I have doesn't have that issue so I think it was some kinda production fluke. My Chi and Adonis don't have that issue either.
