I've been so curious about the 90cm guys since they came out. Does anyone have a photo of them with a person by chance? Or by an SD+?
Sorry sorry! Yes, Steamwitch is right. Legend Doll, a store, does sell them: Ball Jointed Dolls (BJD) company : BJD accessories, Doll items like wig, clothes, shoes and Eyes BJD-Legenddoll And this is Hale, just under his Chinese name, Huan: BJD Huan 90cm Boy Ball-jointed doll_90cm doll_ANGEL OF DREAM-_DOLL_Ball Jointed Dolls (BJD) company-Legenddoll Hope that helps! ORPHANSPARROW, if you google 90cm AOD BJD, you'll find some pics. There are some on the older posts too. They are BIG/tall boys but reedy, though in proportion. About the height of a 3 year old but thinner. Preemie clothes fit on them (it's preemie size right?) and toddler shoes size 2 or 3 will fit his feet. They are 11cm long if I recall properly.
ROFL - yes but I'd quite like a removable one on magnets - because they'd make very pretty girls most of them (and I prefer baby girl clothes) ^_^ Mine fit perfectly age 9-12 month baby tops but I never found any pants for him - I just made some very roomy track pants from the sleeves of an old sweatshirt - one sleeve was ideal for each leg. And I'd agree Alices are a good place to go - my AoD elf came from there - Downside being the price is way higher than happyhouse price (I think they're now defunct) BUT - postage is cheaper from Alices, so it kind of evens out a bit. Beware customs fees though for Europe on something that big
I had both those photos on my deleted photobucket my impulsive nature pays off again - NOT If it helps, I laid my Bo on a single bed, and he is as tall as that is wide (3 feet approx) and BIG with it - he fit 9-12 month baby tops, so if you take a look at them you'll get an idea of his size. I'm only 5' tall and struggled to hold him with one arm as he's very heavy - when I carried him his feet were 12" off the floor and his head came up to my shoulder. I sat him on an adult sized beanbag to display him, so he took up a fair bit of room on the floor. There were a couple of really cute children's chairs Ikea sold which I fancied trying for him but sold him before I got the chance
Here are a few that are not mine. I do know he was the same height as my 3 year old nephew or very close to it: http://www.thedollpage.com/photopost/data/500/1036AaronDolls_013.jpg http://41.media.tumblr.com/1760e30be1e654b838695d0e7cdd8036/tumblr_mz4ei3VZFf1tn649ho1_400.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y238/belmontwitch/BJD dolls 09-10/AoD Hale BJD/dscn6848.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y238/belmontwitch/BJD dolls 09-10/AoD Hale BJD/dscn6849.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y238/belmontwitch/BJD dolls 09-10/AoD Hale BJD/dscn6852.jpg How to BJD http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y238/belmontwitch/BJD dolls 09-10/AoD Hale BJD/dscn6853.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y238/belmontwitch/BJD dolls 09-10/AoD Hale BJD/dscn6856.jpg Hope that helps get an idea of how big those boys are! And unlike Leeel 90cm boys -whose heads are pretty much standard size for a 70cm doll- these guys have huuuuuuge noggins. ELVE, you have a point! I agree, I'd like to see some counterpart girls for this line but seems we won't get them. And girl's clothes are so much more fun to shop for! *sobs* And good idea for making some pants for him! I agree, pants are much harder to find for these guys and probably need a lot of modding to make fit right as he's so lean.
oh those are good photos - although he was a lot bigger than that for me as I'm so short myself ^_^ Oh and this pic Photo by Lisa Napier shows the reason I restrung mine - that arm! It annoyed me the way the hand always crooked out like that on his right arm - and stupidly I didn't realise the arms could just be restrung separately (or can they?) certainly with my other dolls the arms are strung separate to the rest of the body. Love that pic especially as I have one of those vintage dolls too! ^_^ She's so huge I don't know what to do with her either - At least a big bjd can be sat neatly and bend its legs up!
The hands are huge for the body- I wanna replace mine with 75/80cm jointed hands and hope that does better. But no- you'd have to do a partial unstring at least to get to the hands though some may be ingenuitive enough to pull the knot out through the arm hole or something. Usually you have to go up into the check cavity to get the arm string and can leave legs strung but the head and torso need to be taken off. It's not as a bad as a full restring, but the hard part with them is getting the head back on, so.... There are other pics I've seen with grown women next to their dolls. For someone of your height (5ft) he'd go up to the hip, easy! I think those pics are actually on DOA maybe back in the early posts of this thread.
oh so it's not an easy restring for the arms then *sigh* I had some pics of me and my bo on this thread - taken in a mirror but they're gone now with my photobucket *sighs again* Meanwhile.... found some good pics of another bo here - with clothing sizes! Aod Bo Box Opening Also just seen that Alices has an AoD event on for Christmas - a free turtle with a 90cm doll ^_^ No I am totally not looking at saving up for another one - that would be just stupid..... ETA - wow - this is why I deleted my photobucket! Even just clicking on those links momentarily - I have a pop up ad for sky TV downloaded itself behind my internet browser window - evil photobucket!
Eek! Evil indeed! Arm restringing without some taking apart isn't easy... but changing out hands isn't so tough especially if you have a clamp. Maybe some big jointed hands?
The large hands aren't too big a deal for me considering my first SD was my Doll Leaves boy and their hands are really big, though I would love to see if any jointed hands out there would work! Slowly been collecting kids clothes while I wait for tax season, thats the only time I can afford bigger dolls. Then I will have my own beast instead of stalking everyone else's hahaha!
thanks for all the help happy house would be even with higher shipping 50$ less then AC but maybe I'll order from Jerryama. I got my first BJD AOD Qian from her so i am sure she can order the big boy from AOD too thank you too for the owner picss. it's purrfect to me for sewing. i don't have a prob with large clothes. I hate minithings - that's why only one of my yosds has his character clothing already >D also i want to do steam punk for the large one, so the larger the better for not getting bulky leather seams >3 i need to work and sell more that i can order him soon!
When I first saw these I already thought they were pretty rad (finally a doll I could probably make clothes for!) but now I really want one. Crap.
Can anyone get me the shoulder measurement for me? It seems to be one that they leave out on the measurements list.
It's 21cm to 23cm, depending on how you measure. Furthest point to furthest point (where the shoulder rounds) is 23cm.
My pleasure! I wish they'd add that in- it was a big point for me. Everyone gave a different answer. *L* So I allow leeway, but hopefuly that helps.
It's possible I guess, but it doesn't look the same to me?? Nor does the Huan look like the Hale to me either......Why did I wait so long to get serious about getting one of these boys.
No, I agree- Primo and Piao are similar but I like Primo better. That's my face sculpt of the AoD boys. Well, that sucks! Huan and Hale look more alike to me, but I think Huan is a softer version of Hale. I like Yue too, but Primo was definitely my favorite.
Yeah, Primo was the one I wanted. Would be nice if they brought the old sculpts back. About the time I was really thinking of getting one, I noticed Primo was gone. I thought I might get Paio instead, but haven't yet. Maybe next year some time.
It's a LOT of doll for the price of less than most of the 60s out there. I think it's cool you can buy baby clothes and shoes for them. Cheaper than most doll clothes!
I've really been thinking of getting another one of these big boys recently, having discovered them on wamami1 on ebay, much cheaper than Alices. I did a search on DoA and wamami are a legit dealer, so I am seriously tempted as I always regretted selling my Bo off so quickly when I was too much of a noob to sort him out!
Well, they must have heard us coming, because they have nothing doll related up for sale/auction atm.
Try legenddoll.com (possibly .net for English).... They have a 20% off sale right now and carry the 90cm AoDs.
I was literally reading this thread 2 days ago, sad it was dead! Come revive us, @MissGaGa ! I wanna hear about a 90cm boy!
Please do spam your boy for us!!! I love the AOD 90 cm boys!!! Even though I am pretty much committed to only collecting girl dolls, I might have to add a couple of these boys to my collection at some point!
Have any of you guys seen the new AOD sculpts and body? they are not officially released yet but you can buy them through Macaron Doll the dealer. I got one awhile back I had been putting off getting one of the 90cm boys because the face sculpts didn't appeal to me but the new sculpts are lovely and so is the new body. Really buff! Ah I wish I could upload pictures from my computer I have a ton of pictures.
Okay lets see if I can make this work. The new AOD 90cm body: The new heads, they don't have sculpt names yet so you just pick them by number from the top down, I have heads number 2 down and 3 down My number 2 head: My number 3 head Next to a 70cm Dollshe: Next to a Dollmore 105cm Trinity: There are a couple of us over on facebook who have the new 90cm boys, these faceups are custom faceups though they did for me as a gift according to pictures I supplied them. I'm not sure how much I am allowed to go into pricing and buying here but if any of you want that info I am happy to share. Aren't the new heads beautiful!
Oh my GOSH I had no idea they looked like that next to a trinity!! Thank you for sharing! I'm excited to see new stuff happening with the 90cm line! I really hope we see some new faces and dolls on this thread as they get more attention Edit, @raewhitewolf can you talk about the body a bit? How's the posability? Can he stand on his own? Do complex poses? Or is he too heavy for that?
I did know about this and Macaron... been planning on the number 3 for awhile now. I think I need to go ahead and get him! But mine will be made into a very large and muscular girl. A true Amazon!
Yes the number 3 head is very versatile Resivove Lar on the BJD Addicts facebook also has a boy with the number three head and it looks completely different to mine. @Xila He is actually quite light, less than half the weight of the trinity, he stands very well and he poses quite nicely. He is quite a big bulky guy so I suspect they had to sacrifice some mobility for more stability but I think he poses pretty nicely for a guy his size, he's not a useless floppy noodle like the trinity's and I suspect that is because they have made him as light as possible. In saying that the resin is not thin at all just quite light. The one problem I have had with him is the internal part inside his chest joint that helps his chest stay stable and pose without snapping back and forth. In my boy this part was glued in place but it came un-glued and so his chest joint became very snappy, so much so that one day when I was handling him he snapped foward and headbutted me in the face so hard I got a minor black eye....I had a wedding I had to go to that weekend as well XD To fix it I will have to take him apart but so far I have not had time to do so. He is big and he is strung pretty tight so I just know re stringing him is going to be a workout. He can still stand and everything with that loose internal piece but like I said he tends to snap back or forth when I handle him.
Let me see if I can get him out of the cabinet after lunch and get some pictures of the joints and how he poses for you guys.
Okay first the joints, he has double jointed knees a thigh mobility joint and his elbows are not quite double jointed. There is a separate joint part in the elbow but it does not function completely as a double joint. He can still reach his hands to his face though and hold it there. He also has the ability to slouch really well but he can't do that sit with his knees pulled in to his chest as his thighs are not double jointed. He also has little dome pegs in the knees and chest joint to help him stand and hold poses with great stability as you will see in the next post I put him into a bunch of different poses, all without support or leaning on anything and he balances extremely well, so much so that he can squat and hold himself there and he can stand with his weight completely on one leg, the other just balancing and be stable. His ankle joints are quite limited and sadly that does hold him back quite a bit as to kneeling and standing with a pointed toe etc. The elbow joint... Shoulder... Thigh.... Knee..... Chest joint showing internal part, this part should be glued down but mine came loose the day I got him.
I agree with Molliebean! He looks elegant and poses well! And i LOVE that wig on him! Yes, i neeeeeeed one!
@chalyss the wig is from natrume on Etsy, he fits Blythe size wigs so it's quite easy to find wigs that fit him. Memory Time Dolls Collection by natrume
Wow! I didn't realise BJDs came in these sizes. They are huge. Wow. I would love to see a photo with a real person holding one. They are fabulous. The size difference between a 70cm and a 90cm and then a 105cm is amazing. It's hard to visualise without seeing an actual comparison photo. Thanks for sharing.
I just now saw on AC that the heads got revamped and had to pop in to see if anyone got one and now I'm really happy knowing that the body was redone too. Those old hands were too big, now everything is more proportional. I already wanted one but now even more so. Definitely gotta get one after I declutter my room and put some shelves up.
I am very seriously thinking of buying one of these huge boys. I have my eye on the promo photos of that new version of the Bo head. The description on Alice’s says 24mm eyes. What size did you all actually use in your 90cm dolls?
YES, I need one too! But I still wanna make mine a girl. A very tall and muscular girl, an Amazon, but a girl nonetheless.
