Angel of Dream - 90cm - Ni, Bo & Primo

Oct 15, 2008

1. Has anyone seen the preview pics of their new dolls? There's a werewolf! (literally, a wolf head)
I wonder if they'll be willing to sell it separately...

2. 90cm????my God!

3. Link to body (NWS)

I realise theres not an awful lot of information at the moment but I would love to hear the thoughts on others on these new guys :)

I for one am loving the size :D although I sadly don't think he will fit with my other dolls even as tall as they are (70cm+)

although I am seriously considering buying one for my sister who insists she only wants one doll (hehe she should leave it up to me to pick )

4. It seems to me that AOD are trying to "outdo" or compete with Soom lately, with the new "wolfman" doll and now releasing a size bigger than soom's 80cm which were previously the biggest avaliable right?

I mean, a 90cm doll would be pretty cool!

But it seems like AOD are are directly trying to rip of soom lately.

5. How would you carry one of those beasts around with you X_x and what about people that are shorter then 180cm? That guy is going to be taller then half their height!! I can't wait to see comparison pics between them and owner! XD

I also wonder how difficult they are going to be to stand :?

6. For an idea of how ginormous he is, you might want to grab a measuring tape and approximate a 29cm head diameter x_x holy carps.

7. come to think of it, this is litterally one step away from a full-seize doll. At which point, they're just lovedolls without "parts".

Aaha.. I guess the forum needs a "giant" size specific board soon?
I'd like to see one in real life though.

8. I just converted 90cm to inches.... he is gonna be almost 3 feet tall

9. Cripes that's big!! I don't even want any dolls over about 65! Jeepers!

10. Is anyone planning on getting one of these? I wonder if they're going to require a special size wig? I guess unless other companies are going to start releasing dolls in similar sizes it's going to be a pain in the butt to get clothes for them, especially shoes. I know I'll never buy one, that is just ungodly huge for a doll, you'll be working up a sweat just trying to pose this beast!:shudder

11. Wow, amazing but not for me ._.

Too big D: He'd be half my size O.o

I admire the skill to make such a large doll though. And I do hope someone gets one of them so I can see it xD

12. Dolls like American Girl (yes, you can rewig them) take about an 11 inch wig as well, and Blythe wigs work well for them, and will probably work for the 1/2 dolls. A lot of antique dolls have even bigger heads, so it's probably going to be more outfits and shoes that will end up being a problem.

Acquire can also do larger wigs as part of their preorders, so you can get all the funky colors :)

13. Nooo, don't want. He's too big. My Sabik is big enough.

It will be interesting to see if this 1/2 scale will take off though. I don't think too many doll owners will go for this large scale however. I guess we have to wait and see!

14. too big for me, the most I'd get is a 70cm doll

15. :shudder So big... I'm a puny 5 feet tall... he's two feet shorter than me and probably as big as some of my little cousins (big family... My mother is the eldest of six so lots of little cousins around...).

He's not for me, but I'm interested to see him with next to other people.

16. It'd be scary to have a doll the size of a 6 year old. D: you go to sleep and it's just staring at you. *shudder* I think the doll competition is getting over board. 90cm is just too huge. I can't even justify 70cm! (I wanted a Dream of Idol but that's just insane ;__; ). Heck could child clothes fit them? LOL. even people shoes! *rolls around* XD

17. Is there any word yet on how much these are going to cost?

18. they're going to need a wig size of about 11-12 inches unless I'm mistaken?

but yeah

I'm not sure if this guy can or is suposed to compete with Sabik and the other Mecha Angel dolls, yes they are tall but they are still kind of in the 1/3 scale, they can still wear 1/3 scale/70cm shoes, wigs and clothing (with a little luck or lengthening)

it seems like this guy is gonna be in a league all of his own

19. Happy House has them listed at $580 ($450 for the body) which doesnt seem too bad to me considering the size :sweat

20. It's definately suppose to compete. They've made it abundantly clear with their recent releases what their attentions are. They are trying to cash in on the hype Soom has generated with their recently inspired dolls.

That 90cm body is the second I've seen out of China that smacks so strongly of Dollzone I almost wonder if DZ's manufacturer is taking on new clients.

All in all I don't really like AoD scuplts. Not my cup of tea.

21. I don't really know what i think of these. The height is one thing, but i don't want to step the line saying that AOD is trying to compete with Soom. Did you notice the way they formatted their images in their first limited? I really don't want to start stirring things (though i feel like i just did sorry)

BUT! On the plus side i'd love to see photos of these! Especially next to a 60cm, man... Sabik made my SD look like an MSD!

22. What's so Dollzone-ish about it?

23. I don't like their heads, but that big body sure is tempting! Soom heads are pretty big, wonder if I could put one on there.

24. I checked the Mecha Angel measurements and the neck is around two centimeters too small to fit on the AoD 1/2 body according to the measurements they posted on their site. I was kind of hoping for the same thing, as I don't like the heads either but would love such a big boy. :(

EDIT: XD I guess I'm the only one who finds the size ridiculously awesome. Yes, it's way to big for me (I'm only 5 ft tall) but that's why I love it! I just wish there were better looking heads for this body. XD I might get him just so people can go O____o while I lug him around at conventions. Not to mention i have a character who is technically a giant. W00t As for the competing with Soom business, maybe they are, but it's not copying. I think they are crazily pushing the limits, but I still think their hugness is stupidly awesome.

25. Being tall myself ( 5ft 10"), I like the idea of this new doll. But I'm not keen on the heads at all.

26. Do not want. I recently just got into 70cms and they're such a pain in the proverbials to dress and lug around.
Plus, what the hell are you going to dress it in?

27. I'm certainly interested in at least looking at this doll. This is one huge boy. I was stunned silent when I first read "90cm." I still can hardly believe it. These might just become a "sit-on-your-shelf-and-admire"-kind of doll as carrying him about would be interesting for even the strongest BJD owner.

No idea if I would ever want to own one--a 60cm is intimidating enough to me!--but maybe some owner pictures would sway me to like their face sculpts a bit more. It's not even the size that pushes me away: it's their faces. AOD bodies are cute, if only the faces would follow. :/

28. Much too tall for my taste. I'm only 5'1"...that would be over half my height! They are very attractive sculpts, though, especially Jurgis.

29. I would consider buying. I'd like to see more pictures though. I like 1/2 scale.

30. Mostly the torso musculature and how the hands are posed and how the fingernails are sculpted.

It's not a copy for those that are sniffing for that. Like i said, I think their production company is servicing a few other companies right now.

Adae Direct Competing and Copying are COMPLETELY different. That AoD is competing with similar dolls is totally within their business rights. You aren't going to stir anything up because they haven't done anything wrong.

Buff Actually for those that want a thicker body, this probably wouldn't be a bad choice. BW would probably match...I'd need to re-look at comparisons to confirm NS.

31. Yeah, 90cm might just be a BIT too big...

And has anybody noticed, ah... how his manly bits are sculpted? o.O; I have no problem with genitalia on dolls, but for some reason, this strikes me as a bit... weird. :/

32. I would find a 90cm doll pretty cool xP except a large pain to store and what not. Who wants to carry a yard long bag and try not to hit people lol. Also, if 1/4 dolls are usually as childish looking along side smaller dolls, compare that to a huge doll. It's like the world's tallest person and the shortest man alive. Eh, doesn't float my boat.

Well, I never admired AoD's dolls that much, so it doesn't matter too much to me. If a company outside of China were to make 90cm dolls, it would take me years to save up!

33. He he... kind of have to agree... seems like they spent a lot of time detailing that! :o
I also feel like he has the inverse of the Mecha Angel issue... his hands are disproportionately huge. And the faces they offer seem too immature for these big guys. I don't know...

34. Unpainted Ni looks to have some potential, though - his eyes look really nice compared to AoD's other eye shapes. Not as wide or weirdly shaped, and with more sculpting of the lid and such. (I have two AoDs myself, so it's nice to see the eyelid sculpt improve. XD)

35. Even 63cm was too big for me!
I used to have a DOT T.Lahoo/AOD hybrid and he just seemed like giant to me at a whimpy 154cm. *calculates* He's more than 62% of my height! Oh lawd.

Shipping is gonna be a BEAST for one of these guys.

36. Wow. I just stuck a yardstick next to my body for reference, and 90 cm goes about to my hip!

Of the AOD bodies, I think this one might be the most attractive, but the whole size thing is really not too appealing to me. I can imagine these fellows being pretty ungainly in handling, especially if you're not particularly strong.

37. I happen to like DZ sculpts. Just the style I like. (Shrugs) I like the Bo, but he is huge! I'll hold off on deciding if I really like him until I see him in person.

I could see someone modding one to have a Puki Ride INSIDE this huge guy. Like he was a Mecha suit.

-Anneke

38. Uh... I'm kind of curious why the Jurgis and Nicole discussion got merged with the 1/2 scale doll discussion? I believe Jurgis and Nicole are their 'super' size which is standard 1/3 scale.

39. He's impressive, but its going to be a royal pain in the you-know-what to clothe this boy.

40. Why is it that 80 cm doesn't appeal to me, but for some reason 90 cm does? And for the exact reason 80 cm doesn't appeal to me! It's just so huge!

Yeah, I have to say I have never been a huge fan of AOD dolls.

The problem is the heads. I actually think the new wolfman snarling face is more charming than a lot of their sculpts. It looks to have a lot of "emotion" in it.

I go for more beautiful dolls. And I believe that with beauty comes emotion. A doll should be able to have more than one "look." More than one personality. Dolls that just seem to "look" the same no matter how you face-up (this is ignoring mods) just don't appeal to me. (I also tend to gravitate towards face-up artists that can make a sculpt look completely different. I think this is very important.)

But AOD dolls.... Maybe I need to look into them more, but I don't see a lot of the "emotion" in them. Their faces are just weirdly proportioned. I don't even know what it is. But I have seen it in other companies as well. A little too stylized? I don't know.

41. you can use kids clothes maybe? weird. i want to see one though, with a person like a little kid and with other dolls, a super mini would be so funny.

42. Wow, 90cm. I don't know if I could handle a doll that big or not--it's very intriguing, though. I think it would be kind of fun to have one that big, but he probably wouldn't get out much--my 60cm AoD is pretty hefty, I can't imagine what 90cm would feel like. I really like the body sculpt, and while his hands are large, I'm digging the level of detail. I hope they put out clothes for him though!

43. I find the size abit exaggerated >__< plus the face isn't that appealing...maybe if he was more realistic? would be a good model for showing off handmade clothes tho

44. I actually love the first sculpt and would have considered it if it wasnt going to be upto my stomach !! Honestly, this is far far too big, its a small child size. However, its quite magnificent, maybe they will set off other companies trying to compete with the size, itll be insane!

45. i like the body

I'm thinking of putting a Dream Realm head onto it, but I dont know the exact measurements of the DR heads and I'm not sure if DR is thinking of selling heads separately.... :sweat

46. Dolls are just getting bigger and bigger. I almost feel companies are going a bit overboard with sizes.

I'm only 5 feet tall, those things are going to be dreadfully big next to me. Which is one reason why I wouldn't want one. Even if I liked the sculpts I couldn't find room in my apartment for something so big. Luckily enough none of these sculpts do anything for me anyway.

47. Well I am experimenting with making my own wigs and I sew the clothes for all my boys so as long as AoD put out some decent shoes for these giants I say why not? ^^
Nothing different to what I am doing already.
I actually like both sculpts. I hear AoD are pretty good posers so maybe even a 90cm might be manageable. Don't mind the detailed genitalia (as some made comments about) being a gay guy. Detail, no matter where it is put, is always appreciated by me.
Heavy as hell I suppose and a pain in the unholy hole to drag around and store. But the mind blowing size itself intrigues me enough that I am honestly considering one. Yep! The first am I? Ha, ha! ^^'

48. Has anyone seen pictures of the werewolf?

49. While I'm not particularly fond of the head sculpts, I do like the body (oh why cant we have 1/2 scale girls too?.....) I think I may end up getting one....

50. It was kinda novel when the 80cm barrier was breached, but 90 seems like horse-flogging to me. (Hey, look, ma, it's the bandwagon!) But still, hey, 1/2 scale. The bar has been raised!

Maybe if the faces were better-looking. Or, maybe if I had a dolly-need to fill for which my Mecha Angel was simply too short.

Hah... Then I guess you haven't seen very many brands of male dolls without their pants on.... ^.^ Sculpted genitalia are very common.

Eh? What? Having a big schlong makes you gay? :? Well, that's news. I'm afraid I don't see the connection there.

Anyway, Mr. Giant AOD here should be happy he's been so well-endowed, because his face sure didn't get quite the same attention to detail & proportion.

51. I love the body but I don't like their heads... but really 90 cm O.o;; I'm 5 foot 5... I have enough trouble carrying Ace (BH Nori) and he"s 70 cm... I love the Mecha Angels but they are way way too tall.. so 90 cm... nope too tall.

52. I don't understand the connection of the size and being gay...

But I would be tempted to put my Bishonen House nakes next to him... I think they are well matched in that department.

53. The size is definitely way too big for me, but I'd be interested in seeing pics of it next to an owner. I also wonder ihow marketable it's going to be - do many people really willing to carry around and pose a doll that large? :?

54. I'm about 5'6" myself, love my Hound to pieces, and I crave large dolls, this 90cm boy practically has me doing backflips, I looooooove large dolls! He's over half my height and that has me drooling, I -will- get this doll.

I've never been overwhelmed with AOD head sculpts, but I do like Ni, plus, I think one day I'll order a nice large custom-made head and plop it right on that massive body! The clothing thing isn't a problem for me, since I sew.

I'm so excited, I'm so happy that I can barely stand it! Ooh what if they make girls that big too? I'd be over the moon!

I've got nothing but love for the 1/2 scale doll!!

EDIT: I'm sooooo willing to dress, carry, and pose a doll that big! I may have to do a bit of weight training (rofl), but that's fine with me... Bring! It! On!

55. 90 cm? Ninety? Did I read that correctly?

That's... big. If they get much bigger they'll be mannequins, not dolls. :?

56. >o That's too awesome. Man I'd be horribly tempted if I found a sculpt I liked.

57. I think you really misread what he said. He was referring to the comments made by those that were uncomfortable with the way it was detailed/sculpted and was saying that as a gay guy, he could appreciate the detail given to the penis. It had nothing at all to do with what you mentioned.

58. Actually, the genitals look alot like how Mecha Angels ones look (lol) So its not so unusual~

But yes. 90cm. A bit too big for me I think.....

59. O_O Wow. HUGE dolly there. I'm...kinda intrigued...though the hands bother me...>_> The face on the top isn't too bad, with a good face up he could have potential. I...don't even wanna know how much shipping would be for one of these guys....*kinda wants....>_>*

60. It could be a way for us doll folks to to do strength training, lol! I know I could use the exercise. I like Bo--he has a great nose, but then I have a thing for big noses. I usually don't gravitate towards extra large dolls (generally I wish more companies would put out shorter SDs), but I do really like him. Whether or not I ever end up with him, I don't know--there are a lot of dolls like that for me. I like them, but they don't end up coming home to live with me. We'll see.
