A sad and lonely boy.
When you see the rain, it only echoes the pain and longing in your heart.
Even in the storm, you can not express your angst.


I thought of all human emotion, and what sets us apart from animals, is the way in which we suffer and long. It's unlike anything else.

I try my hardest to capture the loneliness my Nathanial feels, when Seth leaves him. He was basically destroyed, it was awful to feel from my point of view as a writer, it was even harder to feel taking these pictures.

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
The concept of this image is that both of them have bought toys from a toy shop. To create the image i had the human in the picture stand further back and the doll closer to the camera. I had a friend hold the doll and then i moved both about so it looked as close as i could get them to look in scale. I then played around with the camera angles.

And to cover the joints i simply just used clothes. The transformers i thought would help with the scaling since they are the same transformer just different sizes. So they are both holding one.

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
Concept hanging around town for a nice day out and possibly meet new people.

I think having a doll on a real place helps add to the looking human. I like having my dolls in real places and playing around with camera angles to make them look bigger then they are. I have the doll far away from the object and i go down to the dolls level and point the camera up to get the camera angle right.

The Last Goodbye

What makes us human? Not our flesh but the ability to love, to feel.

Rather than make resin look flesh-like, I try to create an image of a doll that is able to love and to feel. To capture a doll in a fleeting moment of human vulnerability.

Technique: I used a piece of paper to shape the bokeh, and used a little syringe (for giving medicine to small rodents) to place the teardrop.

Dolls are as afraid of ghosts as humans. (Ghosts are incidentally almost human).
Just taken in a dark room, with a torch shining on the little girl, who is on a tiny chair. The "ghost" is a Pocket Fairy wearing a plastic bag with eyes drawn on.

it's the boy in the shower, obviously! 8D I did nothing much, I used my canon 50mm 1/1.4 lens that blurs everything and showered my poor guy with in a real shower D: I changed coloring in the Photoshop (with basic colour balance tool), 'cause original picture is all orange and yellow; sharpened whole picture a bit, but that's pretty much it. His shoulder joint is showing, but I cant photoshop it out, so ~>_<~

Summer time. Time to relax, to read something or maybe to write on one’s secret diary. Time to dream too, and to take naps in the sunlight, caressed by the tender breeze in the late morning.
This picture was born thinking about the little pleasure of this summer period. Thinking about a dreaming girl, tired of reading, who let slip away her secret diary and falls asleep.
The set has been built by using properly scaled furniture, like the couch, the carpet, the wooden panel behind and under, the little diary. The lights are natural, as the photoshoot has been taken outdoor.

A simple portrait, yet a glamorous one, in black and white and with a blurred natural background.
Here again the light is the one of the sun, and the shadows are painted on the boy's face from the leaves of the trees. Focusing the camera on his lips and eyes, the background became naturally blurred and out of focus.

In my neighborhood, there is an asphalt bike path that runs parallel to the road. Using yellow electrical tape, I striped the path so that it would look like a bjd-sized road, then snapped away. The flowers are all wild, and were found growing alongside the path.

Raven, my Ducan, is born in 2008. ^^ He's already yellowed to a certain extent that makes him look... normal skin. ^^ I love that fact about him. Most of the times, DOD dolls CAN'T look human because of their elven facial features and huge eyes. So I challenged myself this time, taking a photo of Raven to make him look... almost human. ^^ I hope I succeed!

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
I wanted to challenge myself to take pictures of my girl as naked as possible. I also wanted to give the feel of a 1950's pinup/starlet photo session in black and white on a bed of fur...faux fur of course!. Covering joints were hard but i hope i have achieved this in the photos i have taken. It was such good fun to do and a real challenge!

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
To create this image, I picked my most realistic-looking doll, which also happens to be one that looks good bald because I felt that the hair would be the hardest thing to make look realistic. I used the hood to hide any lines from his head piece and to help with shadowing the neck area where the head connects to the body a bit. I then took the picture at sunset with no lights on except a Halloween nightlight that casts an orange glow on his face. I tried to shuffle him around on the seat until the shadows fell in such a way that made him look less angular and sculpted but also did not make his lips too shiny. (I found that the shininess of the lips was the most challenging part because the difference between shiny glossed face-up lips and just-licked human lips is really hard to get while still having light, especially for a boy doll.) I then took the picture with a color accent setting on my camera, which is how the photo appears black and white but his cheeks and face look kind of flushed, and tried to go for an angle that was suitable. I did do a histogram equalizer to lighten it or it was just too dark to see him.

How did you create this image? What was your concept?

I created the hamburgers out of polymer clay. The boxes for the hamburgers were originally from some type of hamburger shaped candy that came in these boxes :P - The background is an old photo I took of some cafe in France that I printed on A3 sized paper and then put behind the scene as a background.

This is Anemone. I tried to pose her in such a way that she would look more human instead of a doll. Something that is often a bit difficult because you are always limited to some point with doll joints. Often it's easier to just capture part of the doll, but I wanted a full view of her

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
I love photographs that show a lot of emotion, or just a tiny, simple moment in people's lives, so I wanted to try and do the same thing with this photo.

My cousin and his wife are having their first baby next month and it's a very exciting time for them and the rest of the family. Once the baby's born though I imagine things will only get crazy for them though, and I think there will probably be nothing they love and appreciate more than small, quiet moments with each other and their new baby. So that was my concept for this picture.

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
I was trying to show an inanimate doll doing something it needn't ever do. That being, getting out of a shower. I used a washcloth as a towel and spritzed the doll with a fine mist. For taking the picture, I adjusted my depth of field so the wrist joint was a bit out of focus.

As a fan of Doctor Who, I wanted to pay homage to the Tenth Doctor's farewell. I used the DVD selection screen from a Doctor Who DVD and played it on a large TV. I then propped the doll up high enough to appear as if he is away from the console of his ship, looking at it for the last time.

picture was taken using a simple point-and -shoot(Olymphus), primarily because thatwas what i had access to.
used what light was available and took a million pictures to see if i got one good one out of all the ones taken.
moody,grainy vintage 19th century snapshot was the feel i was going for(think julia cameron) and the suggestion of life that such "impressionistic" images have that crisper images may have a harder time achieving .
in the case of this image i was going for a sense of movement, simply by moving the camera as i was taking the picture,giving

for this contest i was limited to using a rather basic point-and-shoot camera.
rather than bemoaning my lack of cool equipment i decided to make it a challenge for myself to work with the limitations instead of fighting them: no messing with settings, use the light available, shoot a zillion pictures in the hopes of getting one gem, or two.
much like the pioneering amateur photographers of the 19th century which i admire ,and whom i was trying to to emulate in these pictures.

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
"Girl looking for Boy." I tried to get these two dolls to look as real as possible, with posing them in natural poses. The boy doll in the background has the most realistc face, so i knew i wanted him to be seen while the girl in the foreground i wanted to cover up as much as possible. I also wanted to try to cover up the fact that the girl doll is a very bad poser, so doing a very basic pose was best when using her. All together i'm very pleased with the out come. The only thing i wish i could change would be the fact that you can see the boy's arm joint, but it's not that distracting. I hope you all enjoyed my photo.

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
Valencia is an incredible beauty, and I have taken photos of her, and others have been inspired to photograph her with the often comment from "non doll" people "That's a doll?", so I wanted to try to take a photo of her for a more discerning audience, thereby hiding her joints and so on.
Valencia is a Chloe AIL head on a Twiglimbs body. The head is just breathtaking in it's lifelike qualities, and so is the body I chose for her, which has detail that is far beyond average doll sculpture, like the throat and the stomach. I wanted to pose her so that these things could be seen while hiding the other "doll like" features.

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
Here I wanted to highlight Valencia's face, which is very human to me. I set up the camera on a tripod a few feet away from her and then pulled focus in on her in order to slightly blur the background. I waited for an overcast day in order to have enough available light. The wig was the hardest thing to pick, I chose the red as her coloring is for a red heads, and although the style is exaggerated, it's not outside the realm of believability for a human. The house is a child sized house, so I thought that the scale worked, and the drops of rain on the side I just liked.
