Contest Almost Human (Doll Photography Contest)

Jun 24, 2010

    1. Like Kpatillo said, many of us have our dolls in our signatures. If we post in the voting thread, with some photo's and dolls it would be super obvious which doll is who's and the organizers are trying to prevent that.

    2. I don't think you need to worry about that, if the voting method is going to be the same as last year then the mods would post the photos with a star or other button for us to press to vote.
We don't see who voted for what as no one needs to post or write anything to vote.

    3. Oh man oh man oh man, I can't wait to see all the beautiful photos of this contest! :3 There must be a lot of entries! *is off to make pancakes now and will check again later.* XD

    4. Eh, you'd be suprised.
And it doesn't even have to be a 'trouble' because some things will be very obvious.

    5. Plus some of us have avatars of our dolls, so that would be very difficult. I would try and not worry about it ^^ Plus the countless pictures we have all posted over various sites. Plus no matter what we do some people will know who our dolls are. Because they have spoken to us about them and seen our photo's etc.

      I think so too.

On a lighter note i am still very excited to see what people have done

    6. Even with a super-realistic sculpt, a lot depends on the faceup, posing, and the skill of the photograher. I've seen plenty of photos of Minimees that look like dolls, not humans.

In the end, I think everyone is going to have their own subjective idea about whether an entry is realistic.

    7. Is removing signatures really necessary?
I figured the point of keeping our identities secret was so there wouldn't be favouritism. If you were going to vote on a doll you knew, you'd know of it previously and not need to identify it by a small photo out of a random person's signature.
I don't see the point, it seems kind of overkill to me.
If someone can point out my doll from my signature image, or the same thing with a doll owed by anyone else, is it really going to matter?
If we wanted to go to the trouble of removing our signatures, what about gallery posts? Pictures of your doll that have been posted elsewhere? Links to your deviantart and other art hosting sites?
Haha, not trying to be rude, but it all seems a bit extreme if you ask me. I think signatures are fine as is.

    8. I think most of us are fair and just vote for their favorit picture xDD so everybody calm down <3

better be excited :D like me <3<3

    9. I hope that is what is going to be like too :) and yes i am so excited which is why i am on my computer so much at the moment i really want to see what people did.

    10. If people have family or friends on DoA who would vote for them out of favoritism, they will already know which pictures are theirs and there is not much to be done about it. The only way to get around that kind of thing is to take away public voting altogether and let the mods or some other official judges decide on the winners.
That would be fine with me but it would take away the fun and involvement for people who didn't enter.
And there are worse systems. I remember a site where people were allowed to rate each picture on a scale. Well, those who were determined that a certain photo should win would not only rate that one high, but rate every other pic low regardless of its quality--not the best idea for fair judging.

    11. That does sound pretty bad, i am happy this contest is fairer then that. And to be honest no matter how you try and even things out you will always get some people who vote for family and friends, but i would like to think that is a small number and isn't going to make a large difference to the over all vote.

    12. Oh no, I'm really in despair... I put my picture in Photobucket and I sent the link in my application form, but now I'm wondering if the size is correct. I'm really not good with Photobucket... What can I do ? Please help ! :...(

    13. You can open the image in paint or an editing program for images and change the size of the image there and that should translate when you upload it to a sharing site...hope this helps!!

Best of luck everyone, can't wait to see the pics!!

    14. I am not sure there is anything that can be done this late in the contest. :( But, you never know--it might be fine and your entry will get in with no problems.

    15. If I am understanding correctly, what you're suggesting won't work because the photo has already been uploaded and submitted for the contest and no more entries are allowed to be entered, so this method won't work for her.

Unless you're talking about resizing it and then replacing the one at the URL to make it the right size? If so, I'd caution that, on some web sites (like Flickr), uploading a replacement file changes the URL of the image. If Photobucket does that, her image link for the contest would be broken altogether and her photo would definitely be disqualified. Also, it's probably against the rules to replace the picture you've already submitted, even if you are just changing the size.

I don't think anything can be done at this point for any photo that has been entered since the entries are now being processed and no new entries can be submitted. We'll just have to see if it gets in and if the size was okay.

    16. I think the majority will vote fair :D i´m waiting all day long for the pictures where are theeeeeey xD </3

    17. I second this on both accounts ;D

    18. I 3rd that, is that even a term ^^; oh well i have been looking towards to seeing the photo's all day!

    19. Fourthed! :D

    20. What time is it where the organizers live by the way? I never get how time zones work and such. It's august 2nd here (guessing that's not different) and it's 8:32 pm :B

    21. xDDD wow everybody is so hopefully xD

    22. Thanks for your help, darthmermer and lishelove... I managed to modify the size in Photobucket, but I don't know if the url changed, so I guess there is nothing else I can do now...

I worked so hard and for so long on this, I hope it will be ok. :(

I can't wait to see all the pictures !

    23. I'm on U. S. CST: August 2 @ 1:34 p.m.

    24. I am sure it will be okay, sweetie! You'll know soon enough!

    25. Lol i am guessing a lot of us think so :)

I'm in the UK and it is August 2 7:39pm here :)

    26. I have to say, I am really enjoying getting to know everyone as we hang out in this thread, waiting to see everyone's entries! It's fun chatting and languishing in anticipation together. :)

    27. I hope it is OK too, maybe you could note the admins to explain what happened?

    28. It is good chatting to each other yes, i agree. :)

    29. same here :D I didn´t even join the contest (no resinkids jet) but here are so many talented people <3

    30. I guess I'll be seeing the pictures in the morning then :P

    31. I am not sure! I don't know what timezone the moderators are in! :D I think I remember reading a while ago that they have moderators in lots of timezones so that there is always someone "here" and available! Ah, yes, here:

      Full List of Forum Moderators

Here is has timezones for all the mods. But, I am not sure if that will have anything to do with when the pictures are up! ;)

    32. Most likely the same for me then, which is a shame ^^; oh well :)

    33. urghhhhhhhhhhh what's the good of putting a date up if they don't intend to stick to it. :<
That's always bugged me about people who do contests and stuff. I mean, I appreciate the mods running it, but if they didn't think they could post them in time, they shouldn't have said "August 1st."

    34. Well, the nature of contests is that they're unpredictable. :) People who plan them put a lot of work into them, but it doesn't mean that things always run smoothly. The mods announced a few days ago that they were inundated with so many entries that it may take until the end of today or early tomorrow to get them all ready for voting, so we'll just have to be patient while they do the best they can as quickly as they can. :)

    35. Hey, they tried. Things can be held up, it happens. It's not like they actually owe you to make it on time.
They tried to make it august 1st, but you try organizing dozens and dozens of entries with just a few people working on it. Mods have lives aswell.

    36. Just to be a busy body... :sweat The mods running this contest and the others (armeleia and junkets) live in New York state, so they're running on EST, which means it is 4:05 for them right now. Both Armeleia and Junkets work full time, and there were a large amount of entries needing to be coded and posted (and I believe armeleia's been doing that part alone) so I think it's kind of unfair for people to complaining that the entries won't be up until later tonight.

I think the turnout for these contests was possibly much larger than contests in the past, so it's taking longer to get everything posted than expected. I'm sure as soon as Armeleia's home from work and had something to eat she'll have the entries up for voting as soon as she can.

    37. I think most of us are understanding of that, we are just so excited to see what the entries are. I have seen a couple of people be a little more unimpressed. But i think for the most part we are just excited. My complaints about not seeing them today are more, oh no i have to wait a little longer to see them. But i understand, because the mods did say they have got more for this one then others and this was before it ended. And that they expected to get a flood just before the deadline.

In a sense this for me adds the the excitement because it means more entries that i get to see. :) :D

Thanks for confirming times though, that gives us a better idea to when this might be done for :)

    38. I'm excited to see the entries, but I'm passing the time by working on my wig for the triathlon competition :)

    39. Thanks for the advice, I just did so ! :)

    40. I tried that but then i finished my wig, lol :) well hopefully they will be up when i wake up tomorrow (although part of me thinks knowing my luck they will go up just as i got to bed ^^; oh well)

    41. I really hope that helps :) *fingers crossed*

    42. There are almost 200 entries to this contest alone, so preparing everying for voting takes quite awhile. We had almost 100 entries just onthe 31st!

Please remember that running DoA (and these contests specifically) isn't paying anyone's bills, so junkets and I have full time jobs... And can't spend all of our free time doing this either. (I'm actually posting this from my phone at work!)

I'm not sure when the entries will be up, but I hope to have them up before I go to bed. Thanks for you patience! :)

    43. Wow 200 that is amazing!! :D :D

    44. holy sh** that freaking awesome O_O (sorry) but 200?! wow i´m impressed O.O are there so many entrys in the other contests too?

    45. WOW!! I think that is great, although, man. It's going to make it so hard to decide!

    46. Sorry, I wasn't meaning to imply everyone was being unfair about the entires. I know a lot of people excited, god knows I am. *_* This is the first contest I've actually entered after almost three years on the forum. I'm so antsy to see what everyone else came up with. Especially since it seems there are over 200 entries! Oh man!

There were just a couple comments that were seeming impatient and like the mods had "no right" to be late, so I just wanted to post since I had what little info I did, and knew armeleia and junkets are both at work.

    47. Wow...that's a LOT of pics... *slowly raises hand* I think its okay if the Mods pic 50 or so of the entries they feel are the strongest and then let us vote on them. I would LOVE to see all the entries at some point but honestly picking one out of 200, as much as I love the dolls, will be very, very hard to do. Just a peon's suggestion though!

Hang in there Mods! And thank you so much for offering such fun contests!

    48. I wouldn't be mind if they were limited to a top number, myself. Though knowing how many entries there are, now I'm sure I stand no chance! XD

    49. oh it would be so nice if we can see ALL 200 entries... even if some are not that good. they were submitted by the owners who tried so hard. ^^ they all deserved to be seen and voted! X3 this is probably the biggest competition ever on DoA?

    50. I think a lot of people would complain if that happened.

We'll just have to be patient.

    51. I think a lot of people would complain if that happened.

We'll just have to be patient.

    52. What? You don't just look at dolly stuff all day like me? It's an outrage.
Take your time, nobody's waiting on a blood transfusion here.

    53. All right then! The images and form are up for voting. :)

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?388803-Almost-Human-VOTING-TIME!

There are 192 entries. As a courtesy, I have resized any oversized images to fit the requirements. Please take the time to look at all of the entries before choosing your first, second, and third choice images. The talent isn't all concentrated in the beginning or the end, there are amazing shots throughout!

If you do not see your image, it is absolutely imperative that you PM me immediately so that I can get it into the contest before the voting ends. However, it appears that the number of images line up with with the number of entry posts, so I think we're in good shape. :)

      Voting closes on August 8th.

      Best of luck, everyone! :)

    54. thank you so much for the hard work, armeleia~ X3 *hugs*

    55. thank you so much for the hard work, armeleia~ X3 *hugs*

    56. Wow everyone too such amazing photos! I had to keep going back and forth, its so hard to choose! Thanks so much to the mods for all of the time and effort they put into these contests, they really brighten my day :D

    57. Thank you, armeleia! I know exactly what a chore it is to post so many pictures!

First glance through, I'm very impressed-we have some really imaginative people here! I think I'm going to have to go through them several times and take notes before I make my final decision. Kind of like a beauty pageant-have quarter finalists and semi finalists and the like!

    58. OMG so hard to choose!! QAQ Too many good pics... Now I need to develope a rating system or something. >.<
But yes, these contest are so much fun! Thanks dear mods. C:

    59. Wow... that's a whole lotta photos! o_O I'm not even sure where to begin voting! There are some really amazing photos... so many talented and creative people on DoA!

Thanks so much to the mods for all the hard work you put into the contest! Resizing that many photos and getting them all organized must have been so tedious!

    60. Thank you guys!! It is amazing you were able to get all this done so quickly!! Fantastic images! I was DEAD wrong to ever suggest they be culled down!! Great, great work everyone! I love seeing everyone's inspirations!
