Alice in Labyrinth Mini Discussion

I have just received my first AIL doll and think this is IT !!! I am hooked on this amazing sculpt. Daryl in the kit form arrived this morning and I was so impressed with the resin quality. Gonna go back for more of the kits. I had no need to do any sanding or anything. Just a little rub down before I gave my girl a faceup and then strung her body. I still plan on painting her body, but was so anxious to see this girl all together that I couldn't wait to give her a body blushing today.

She is wearing Iplehouse JID clothing which fits well enough - too lose in the waist for most pants options, but these pink ones have a tie so I could tighten them up ;-) Her wig is from my Soom Rosette girl. Faceup by me :-P

Beautiful job on the faceup.

I too love the Daryl sculpt - but since my Isambard is a boy I had to find an alternative body so went with the MinoruWorld boy body (smaller than the AiL body, but works well with the proportions of the Daryl head)

He's come to work with me today so I'll try and get some photos of him on my desk later that i can share here.

Oh Teddy, your Daryl boy is GORGEOUS !!! What a sweet innocent little boy he makes. I am loving the boy so much for this sculpt. You must be loving having such a sweet little man at work with you. BUT are you actually giving him more attention than you give work :-P Are you happy with the resin match between the body and head ?? and what about size ??? Does the size look right ??? Maybe I could do the same thing and make a boy Daryl .... he could be the little brother to my girl ;-) But before I considered getting a head from AiL, I would be going for other girls first. They have such beautiful sculpts and I MUST have more !! :-P

What beautiful girls - and Teddy's boy, of course!

I finally managed to get suitable bodies for my Alice and Daryl last week after months of trial and error and abortive attempts to buy Planetdoll bodies. My Daryl always seemed older than Teddy's and she looked like a poison dwarf on a Custom House Little Junior body.

They are both on the new Teenage Dream Girl body from Doll Leaves. The necks are the right size for the heads and the colour match is good - and the service from Doll Leaves is amazing. My only quibble is that I'd prefer a flatter chest on Daryl but it's fine for the older looking Alice.

Everlasting Babies at the moment I'm waiting to see how it works out when she's home.
With her first face-up she was a shy little girl but now... I just need to make sure that she has not the same personality as my Unoa Lusis, two demanding girls are a bit too much for my bank account to handle xD

I always toyed around with the idea of buying Prudence a different body and the Dolleaves body seems to be perfect.

Prudence does look rather demanding - she's gorgeous. I think the Doll Leaves body will suit her perfectly. I was so pleased with mine I went and bought an Aya head from the Marketplace. As I already have another Alice I'm currently selling 'spare' dolls to buy another couple of bodies before the Doll Leaves event finishes at the end of the month.

 

He was bored and wanting to go home by the end of the day Ready and waiting with his bear:

I think the size is great, and the colour match is close enough (althoguhy I'm not fussy about a perfect match as real people don't match exactly between face and body colour so why sghould I expect a doll to). I tried the head on several bodies when I first got it - it was the right size on the Little Junior Ai body except the Daryl neck socket is so shallow the neck looked a bit too long - so it would have needed sanding down to get rid of the giraffe look:


The head also worked on a LittleFee body, so would probably also work on Ange Ai or Yo-SD bodies too:

Out of interest, Hilarie - did you try her on one of your Little Junior boy bodies?

That would give you the flatter chested look for her without the body shaping of the Little Junior girl body.

It's easy to remove and sand the "boy bits", althoguh I think the Little Junior boy neck would need shortening a bit for the Daryl head as well.

That was what I was aiming to do Teddy but I wasn't happy with the colour match (the boys are quite pale and Daryl's faceup is quite highly coloured) and the Mars heads were too nice. (I know I'm selling them now but that's because I prefer the Minoru World girls.) I think I may sand down the breasts on one of the Doll Leaves bodies a bit - they're not actually big, though, and she makes quite a reasonable 12 year old.

 

CH doll skin has gone a bit on the pale side recently.

Sounds like a plan. I'll look forward to seeing how that works out.

Oh Hilarie, your girls are gorgeous !! Those bodies look perfect. I'm gonna have to keep that in mind for future. You have created beauty for sure.

THANKS heaps for the comparison pics with the other bodies. I do like the idea of the littlefee size with these heads. Oooh so many options now that there is so many pics of other's attempts with these kiddies ;-) THANKS for all the pics of body comparisons.

 

I just received my Daryl about 2 hours ago. I was so excited I had to dress and photograph her. Normally I wait until my dolls are blushed and have their nails done before their debut! But I could not wait to share her.

My review: First, the resin is outstanding. I love the color, texture, overall quality, and the fact the seams are sanded (a huge plus). The body sculpture is like no other doll I have. I love the fact the elastic string does not show. She sits the best I have ever seen. Her painting is done very well too. I would have liked a bit darker shade on the eyebrows but she goes with the wig I like on her. I do find her harder to stand though. I might end up sueding her knees. She reminds me of my Volks SD10 and Volks MSD Suwarikko bodies. The service from AIL is superb! The communication was excellent and I received her in two weeks! I love that!

Best part is she can wear all my MSD slim sweaters. I do not have to design a special size. The skirts I have made for my other slim MSD girls fit as well. Pants do not. I will have to make another pattern for her body or just let her wear skirts! Most all of my MSD shoes fit too.

So glad I checked out this thread and bought her. I loved seeing everyone’s photos. Thank you all for sharing. You made me want to try this doll!

Below my Daryl is wearing my newest design. I have to take a ton more photos to make enough for a gallery page. When I do, I will post again with the link. I will be having so much fun playing with her!

Interesting that you make the comparison with the Volks Swarrico bodies - I love those. If I ever get another AiL mini, I'll be tempted to get the body too (my Daryl's a boy on a MinoruWorld body)

It's amazing how versatile Daryl is. Dollswest's and Everlasting Babies' look so natural and sturdy, Teddy's is a proper little boy, and mine a lanky pre-teen. I'm very tempted to look for a younger looking Daryl too.

You all tempt me to get a Daryl head to share the body with Prudence (who's head is still MIA despite being sent with EMs on the 31st May).

But her dress arrived It's this one, I can't recommend Dei from The Haunted Dollhouse enough, it fits perfectly and looks even more gorgeous than on the photo

I so love my Daryl that I ordered the Alice head. I love her too! I think these are my most favorite bjd! As I mentioned before, the body design, sculpt, resin and faces are superb in my book.

Here is a photo of my Alice in my interpretation of “Alice in Wonderland”. I designed and made the dress, pinafore and socks. I could not find a white rabbit among my stuff so Alice has to have a brown one! I will be adding more photos of Alice to my Gallery page later on.

I am now thinking of getting Aya! I think I want the unpainted head and body. I am not sure…still thinking!

These little dolls are so sweet. I'm just in love with her. What beautiful sculpting they have and they have such a surprising weight to them too!

I finally found a wig for Prudence that a) fits and b) has no stray hairs and flyaways.
After cutting the bangs so that they don't cover the whole upper part of her face it looks really pretty - I'm just waiting for the Nephelin horns for her and than she'll be finished

So, Prudence somehow managed to snatch up the dress I bought for Allegra, my Unoa Lusis, and she's looking fab in it - she's such a pretty girl

I'm tempted to buy Alice, but I haven't decided if I should buy the small doll or the big head. Could somebody tell me which clothes would fit little Alice?

Hi, I am new to this thread but wanted to ask where you find shoes that fit these girls. I have a few MSD shoes that fit but some MSD size are far too long. (There is such a large range in MSD sizes). If someone has a place where they have found good fitting shoes would love to know..you can pm me. Thanks, Jo...Oh..do have some old Luts MSD shoes that fit perfectly.

Chastity I would not recommend the larger head as I have not been able to find a body that AIL heads fit well. If someone else has, let me know. Right now I have one of their heads on a I-doll body and it does not look too bad.
I also have two of the smaller girls and love them but it is hard to find shoes for them. The Kish 14” outfits usually fit them, if short skirts. The quality of the resin and the workmanship from AIL is just superb. I just wish they would offer an MSD size doll.

 

My Heley head is on a Volks body and works OK, and I've tried it on Volks SD10 bodies too... My one *slight* gripe is that the AiL neck sockets are a little shallow so whatever neck they are put on can look a little too long... if it's enough to really bother anyone, shortening a neck by a quarter inch is one of the easiest mods there is. It's one of the few mod's I'll confidently have a go at myeself.

I found the same problem with my AiL Daryl head: It worked on the CH Little Junior Ai body except for rthe neck looking too long. Luckily for me, it also fit on the Minoruworld junior body (boy in my case) without needing neck modding, so my Daryl boy is the same size as my UnoaChibi girls.

Teddy, Beautiful face-up and the head and body look really great together. I have tried the AIL head on an Iple body..right size body but Iple necks are so thick..so will take some neck removing to make that work. Here is my Elijah on the I-doll body. That neck needs to be reduced too but waiting to see if I decide to keep the Elijah head. Sometimes I like the head on this body and sometimes I look at it and say - no I don’t. Indecision..

So many nice dolls here, its the first time I see them, saw the first on dollswest site and got an

But are this brand of dolls not a bit more expensive than the other brands I have got used to, or is

Here's mine on a CH Petite Ai body:


The neck hollow in the heads is a bit shallow so some necks are a bit thick (like this one) for a good fit, and some thinner necks look too long and giraffe-like.

I don't have a Yo-SD but this body is about the same size. The neck is the right size, but the head looks a little bobble-headed on the size od body... Not by very muich and it's less noticable when the doll is dressed.

The Minoruworld body looks great with his head, that is so much better that the Yo-SD ones.
How is the head vs neck fitting with this body?

 

Works fine - it'a about the same thisckness as the LittleFee neck so fits the socketOK, and it isn't long enough to look too long with the AiL shallow neck socket.

Hello there!

First of all, thanks everyone who's contributed to this thread, it has been informative. I have ordered the Aya kit (for myself for Christmas because I've been such a good girl). The biggest mystery still is, how big is she! I understand msd clothes fit, I've seen comparison photos, but still, it's exciting to see her in real life. ^^

I'm afraid I will have to get her a black wig with bangs. Not only because she always looks so good in it, but because she's replacing a doll who's character has black hair with bangs..

Teddy, feel free to ignore this post as you have already done a very good job of coming up with ideas but, for everyone else, has anyone found good shoes that fit the AiL MSD body? All the ones that I have seen are either a) FAR too long and look like boats (the vast majority of MSD shoes) or b) look unrealistic (most of the other dolly shoes, such as Kish and Boneca). My grail? A pair of black laceup boots in as close to Victorian/Edwardian child's style as possible. Frankly, at this stage of the game, if someone pointed me in the direction of 6cm DMs I would be overjoyed.

And, since I haven't posted her here yet, my modded Daryl (I sanded her rather feline nose bridge down and slightly reduced the poochy cheeks).

 

Sorry, Mau, I haven't come up with any more ideas since I saw you. Let's help someone else knows of some that will work for your girl.

Thanks love. I did look up Kish and Boneca and, for me, they just look too dolly. A little too close to porcelain doll shoes, if you know what I mean. And you know well my obsession with realism and scale.

I am currently mulling over Tonner Matt boots, but they are 6.5cm outside measurement, which is a good cm longer than her little tootsies. Not being cheap, I am wavering on whether or not to try them.

Does anyone have any shoes that look OK on their little feet that they could post, with outside length measurements?

 

Including these ones? (I know they're brown rather than black but, if they're the right style, black ones will probably turn up)

Yup. This is where my extreme pernicketiness becomes annoying. Those boots lack the detail I am looking for, nice as they are. I need boots that could be mistaken for human boots, if one didn't know the scale. So, as an example, these are the boots I am currently considering (with the straps cut off).
