Alice in Labyrinth Mini Discussion

Hmmm... reading throguh this thread I think my plan has fallen appart beofre I have head and body together to try it.

Having seen how huge and out of proportion the Daryl head looks on a YoSD body, I assumed it would fit on an MSD size body.... reading through this thread, however, it seems that the AiL mini heads are too small for standard MSD size bodies...?

Is it the size of the head itself or just that the neck hole is too small?

I have a Daryl head on the way and a DollsTown 5Year body I was hoping to use it on.

Teddy I think it's the size of the head (it's more like the head of my Teenie Gem) and the necksize which is really small and fits nearly perfect on the Teenie Gem body.
Although nobody tried an AiL head on a DollsTown 5Year body yet - perhaps it might fit?
Unfortunately I can not help you with this - my two other MSDs are an Angelheim Luka and an Iplehouse Ryan and the bodies are definiately not in proportion.
Would you mind to post pics when you get your head and the body?
It might be interesting for some other people including me^^

I don't have a Teenie Gem, but goign byt he measurements, the size is similar to CH Little Junior Ai and my floating Dionne head is definately too small (in neck size) and too narrow overall, to fit on that, although it does work on slim-mini bodies.

(at some point I must try my other Little Junior Ai head (Icarus) on the DT body, it's rounder and works on more bodies than the Dionne does (Petite Ai for example, which the Dione looks too narrow on)

Blast!.... It looks like I'll be ending up with another head it's difficult to get the right sized body for. It will probably fit the Little Junior body but CH don't sell them unless you buy a whole doll and then you're stuck with the head again.

I can hope so (If the neck hole is too small, I can sand down the neck and ream-out the neck-hole a bit, but if its proportionally too small looking, that would be awaste of time).

Absolutely. But it might be some time as the head is coming to England from Canada by surface mail.... It's probably on a ship at this moment.

I'll also take pictutres of it on a Volks MSD, Kid delf, Little Junior Ai, Limho Mono,and Narae bodies, for the sake of killing several birds with one stone, so to speak.

i'd really love to get an ail aya soon, but I still have some question...

could anyone tell me if the white skin of AiL is totally white, or does it have pink'ish, peachy or other tint? I don't really like totally white dolls, but i've seen as well that their NS is quite dark - isn't it? I'd love to know that their WS has a tint of other colour, like for example volks' or IH WS.

I'd be grateful for your help

 

finallyiamnooe I only have a NS Aya but I must say that it's not dark - but I'm not a fan of WS dolls xD
I think Malvina got a WS head although she mentioned that it's quite dark and it's possible that she got a NS head because of mistake.

 

Well, I wrote AIL about the color, they say it is defenetly not a mistake, so it meens I have the white skin !!! It is not white enogth for me, so it can be good for who wants some tint in it. the color is not so much pinkish, more creamy-orangy-yellowish. They wrote me that their white is close to volks white, if that helps, not a paper white. I wanted a ghosty girl on planetdoll white, so it won't work, I have to "bleach" her with some color, another option is to buy the AIL body.

I will post the color comparison soon, my camera is not well now >_<

Still, if someone has a white skin I would love a second opinion, cause I am still not sure, if someone can show a white skinned doll next to white paper or something white. or even try to describe in words, it will be most reassuring, cause I really want to faceup her, but I am waiting to be sure.

malvina I have a white skin Teenie Gem - if you'd like I can make a photo with her next to a white paper so you can see how white she is and compare her with your head.

here is a link to color match for AIL - see post #57 and post #65 or even better #105-113 for white skin on volks and others. but note that it looks a bit pinkish in the volks picture, and the one I got at home is much yellower and a bit more tinted than this picture. Go through the thread, it has many comparisons, everyone descrives it a bit differently though, and the pictures are really hard to tell because of different lightnings.

Roterwolkenvogel - thanks but I didn't understand, do you have WS AIL to show me or gem WS? I think I already got my answer on this other thread, it has a comparison with dollstown paleskin, and looks quite different from AIL, I know that DT paleskin is close to my PlanetDoll white, so in conclusion - AIL white is not paperwhite !!! bad for me

I got an answer from AIL about buying the body seperatly, who ever has a head and needs a body, they write:

" We sell the body separately only for AiL's mini heads owners.
The body Kit price is 230$ and a finished body is 290$"

I second this - it's definiately too dark to be WS.

 

They still did not reply to the picture I send them, still waiting... I know that it not suppose to be paper white, but I can not figure out how dark it should be, I want to order the body and afraid it will come brighter than my head, also I can not do face up till it gets clear...

Well, they confirmed and they are absolutely sure I got the white color, next to the paper white it does look dark, they wrote their white can be orangey or pinkish, so it is a good news to who does not like the paper white.

I will probably get the body from them next month, I just hope it will really come in the same color, wouldn't it be funny if eventually I got a whiter body and discover it was indeed a mistake, I hope not, I have to take some time to get used to the color and maybe change her character accordingly. Actually I have only white BJD so far, so it may be a good change... eventually. (It is just that she looked so white on their site).

It's probably best to hold off doing the facup or anything with the head until the body comes, just in case.

We had a Meet-up last Saturday and I took some nice photos of Prudence.

Hi!! sorry to intrude, since I ve heard mini Ail doll's head are similar to yosd heads, does big Head Alice suits a msd body?

Only if you like your Yo's bobble-headed - The pictures on the AiL site of the Daryl head on a Yo body look like the head is waaaay too big.

It's more Little Junior Ai sized from what I can make out.

Well. my Daryl head finally arrived (one month to the day - the Canadian postal service sent it surface-mail when it was supposed to come by air!!), and is way too small on the DollsTown 5year body (the head is tiny and the neck is to too thick for the socket too).

I tried the Daryl head on all my Mini's and larger Tinies and am including the pictures here as people were interested....

Mostly the problem is that the socket in the head is so shallow that the necks look waaaay too long., and some of the necks are too thick for it anyway.

- DollsTown 5Year - The head is way too small and the neck too thick.


- Slim mini's - the head could work OK on if the necks were shortened, but the socket is still a bit narrow for the necks.

The neck is too thick and the socket too shallow.

- Regular minis - the head looks too small & the neck would need shortening.

Volks MSD girl body

- Little Junior Ai - the head is the right size but the neck needs shortening


- Petite Ai - the head is the right size but the neck is too thick for the socket


- LittleFee - the head looks too big.



Even with a less-full wig, the head looks too big

I was just wondering if the Bambicrony BB body would fit the AiL heads... the dolls itself are 31cm tall... I might order the body when I have some money left xD

 

Replying rather late, due to account access issues, but you're welcome. I have a Minoruworld Junior boy body arriving on Monday that I hope will work with the Daryl head, I'll post pictures and comments when I've had a chance to try them together.

Here are Alice and Daryl on the same Little Junior girl body. The neck is a little flat at the top so I've started beveling the edges for a better fit.

 

And the good news is that if you want a smaller/less chuncky body for your AiL min head the Minoruworld Junior bodies are a good fit. My Daryl is currently on his new body which just arrived (I have my packages delivered to wrok as there's never anyone at home during delivery hours) and which I hastily strung in the staff coffee-room in order to tryt he head on (pictures to follow, when I get a chance).

I had a chance to take a couple of snaps while my manager was out of the room...!

Teddy Your Daryl is just too cute. I think proportion wise, it looks like a perfect fit to me. Would you mind filling me in on a bit more detail as to skin match, poseability etc? Thanks.

 

The resin match is reasonable (an exact match isn't something I'm fussy about as real people are frequently different shades between face and body) as far as I've noticed.

The poseability of the body seems fine to me - I haven't done much other than dress him and sit him with the rest of the gang, but the pieces move nicely and hold whatever position I've put them in. The body arived in pices with a bag of S-hooks, two ready tied loops of elastic and two pieces of bent wire for helping get the elastic through the pieces, it' very quick and simple and literally took me 2 minutes while I made a cup of coffee durign my break at work to string the body and attach the head. I was most impressed - plus the people at Minoruworld are friendly and very helpful (I messed up something in the ordering process and they sorted it out quickly and kept me informed about it).

The obvious problem I have noticed is a(nother) feature of the the head rather than the body. The back of the neck socket protrudes downwards which effectively prevents the head from being tilted back (to raise the chin/look upwards).

It's the same problem that RML heads have, so I'll probably take the dremel to it and mod it to get rid of the bit that gets in the way, like I've done with two of my three RML heads.

Teddy Thanks so much for the quick and detailed response which is really good to know. I've been eyeing Minoruworld's Leila and AiL's Daryl and Aya for a long while now and still couldn't decide as there's so many others that I want on my wishlist

 

Can someone please give me an advise? What eyes do you normally use for your mini Alices? 14 mm or 12 mm? Some comparison pictures would be just great.

 

I use 12mm eyes for my Aya, for my taste 14mm eyes are too large although I might try my luck with 10mm ones.
Sadly I have yet to find fitting glass eyes, the ones I have don't fit in her eyewells.

Thank you for the answer. I have suspected 14 to be too large for them... Problem is I really want beautiful dollshe eyes for my Alice, and those tend to be smaller and rounder than most eyes of similar size. Maybe their 12 mm would be close to normal 10 mm. So if you actually try 10 mm, I'd be happy to know the result. Thanks again. ^^

Some Prudence spam provided by pepper - ignore her eyes, she'll get brown ones instead but the blue eyes were the only one I had at hand when I shipped her.

Finally managed to take a photo of Prudence (who miss her boyfriend since he's away to get a new face-up) but nevertheless decided to pose for some photos - rest of the shooting here

In case anyone is wondering, she's wearing 14mm glass eyes since I still haven't found the perfect pair of eyes for her.
