Alchemic Labo Unoa Discussion Part 7

Nov 9, 2005

    1. The boys share the same body, same for girls :) They'll be easily exchangeable without any modding-
Here are some photos of L-bi girls
      and Lusis boys

    2. I don't know if I'm allowed to say this here, but if you ask nicely at UnoAlchemy, often Alchemic Labo will just ship the body with the head you want on it. So you could order a Lusis boy.

    3. What sweet dolls! I love the Unoa heads!

I emailed the Alchemic Lab website, but maybe someone here could help me. Can you order just faceplates without a body? How much are they individually?

I would love to make a Unoa-ShinyDoll (or Minifee) hybrid, so I just want faceplates, specifically: Sist Default, Lusis Default, Sist Sleeping, and (maybe) Sist Wink. I love the pale Fairyskin.

Also, this may be the wrong place to ask (I asked on the Fragille discussion page, too, but it isn't as active as this one), but is this website a reputable place to order a Fragille Shiny Doll body?
      Fragille Body 42cm

And do you think Shiny Doll's "White" skin would work best with Fairyskin?

Edited to add: Wow, the normal skin girls are so pretty, too! It's so hard to decide on the skin tone!

Edit again: Are the "boy" faceplates the same size as Sist/Lusis? I like the eyes on the L-Bi!

      Thank you!

    4. Hiya and welcome :D unoas faceplates are really pretty, aren't they!

Firstly, yes, Oobie Doll is a safe and reputatible dealer, so you're good buying from them. :)

Unoas have 3 sizes. The Lusis, Sist, B-El, and L-Bi are all 1/4 scale, with the boys being a little taller than the girls. The chibis Rowan and Lillian are about Yo-sized, but they can have odd measurements and fit into some smaller MSD sized clothes. Then the Elder Girls and Boys (I don't know the names of their sculpts by heart, sorry ><) are 50cm, so they're roughly the size of a super tiny SD.

The unoa fairy skin is kinda the black sheep of the white resin family because it has more pink in its tones than yellow, but unless the body you ordered has an extremely pronounced ivory tone, the match will most likely work, there may just be a subtle difference if you look closely at her. If you're looking for an exact resin match, the fresh (or normal) skin tone is a lot easier to work with. There are also companies that offer resin matching, you just have to ask :3

      Hope this was helpful~

    5. @bluefoxy - Thank you for taking the time to reply! I'm looking at the 1/4 Unoas, although the Elder Girls are beautiful, too!

I appreciate your opinion of the fairy skin! I like that it has more pink than yellow, but I can see that the resin matching might be tricky. I may still go with it, since I prefer the look of the pale skin to the darker normal, and I think I can live with a slight difference in color (I can fix it in Photoshop). ...I hope I'm not making a mistake! But with this hobby, you kind of just have to try things, don't you?

    6. Again, most of the white resin differences will be very very slight, you'll have to squint to really notice the difference unless the skin is bright bright white or very very ivory, so going with Fairyskin is perfectly fine :3 I wasn't trying to discourage you at all, but it bothers some people (like me, because I'm a perfectionist) so I figured it would be good to warn you.

This hobby does require a lot of trial and error but I think that's half the fun of it. Also, getting to customize the dolls is really awesome. The same sculpt can come out looking completely different depending on who painted them :D also I wouldn't worry about making a mistake. If you really don't like it, you can sell her and try again, and there's no shame in that :3c

    7. @StellaMarigold Fairy skin is a gorgeous, gorgeous color, by the way and so luminous! I've found with my WS dolls that resin mismatches basically disappear once everything is blushed. Any pink tones you add through blushing will overwhelm any slight differences in the underlying white tones.

    8. Thank you, @bluefoxy!

I'm a perfectionist, too, so I definitely appreciate knowing about even a slight difference. The more detail, the better, as far as I'm concerned! It is pretty amazing how completely different dolls can look with different faceups and clothing. I agree that the research and just trying things out is fun!

So far I have discovered that "Tinies" are too small for me. As much as I love miniatures, very small bjds are just too hard to clothe and customize. I hope to sell my current two tinies and replace one with a Unoa hybrid (I'm thinking of a Shiny Doll Fragille body, since I actually love the Shiny Doll "Hikali" head, so if the Unoa faceplates didn't work out, I would still have a whole doll). The other tiny I would like to replace with the same sculpt, only in 1/4 size.

@Kimchi - that's just want I want to hear about Fairy skin! Thanks for confirming my impressions and for assuring me that blushing helps a lot. I'm quite excited!

The only thing I'm curious about now is whether Minifee hands can work on a Shiny Doll body....the Shiny Doll hands are very cute, but not particularly realistic, and I like different hand options. I would need to make some magnetic wrist pieces to fit the Shiny Doll narrow wrists, tough...so more trial and error ahead, but that's off topic from this thread :)

    9. Hello folks, I'm asking for a friend who I think doesn't have a DoA, but she purchased an Unoa body and I think during shipping the cold made the glue brittle and some pieces came apart. Is it okay to use super glue to put the pieces back together? what's the wisest method to go about this? the piece that came apart is the thigh from the leg. I tried to find other information online regarding putting together an Unoa but couldn't find anything. Thank you. :0)

    10. Yes, Superglue is fine -- I use Loctite Gel superglue, which is a little easier to control. The little pegs on the piece should fit into the slots on the other piece.

Don't go crazy with the amount of glue, or it will leak out onto the thigh and need to be sanded away. Just a little goes a long way.

    11. Thank you so much! she was really nervous about it and I wanted to give her a positive response so she wouldn't have to worry.

My unoa family keeps growing! One of these days I need to take decent photos of them instead of phone snapshots

      Cute! I love B-els pants! :D

I love this photo! Her eyes look so pretty illuminated :)

    13. I've gotten my Unoa dolls/faceplates/accessories through UnoAlchemy, I don't know if you're only looking for A-grade items though. UnoAlchemy is great! I've only purchased paradise skin faceplates and each was around $45 I believe.

Anyway, I don't see many paradise skin girls, so here's Taz, my Sist :)

    14. Okay, new to the world of Alchemic.
Is using UnoAlchemy really worth it?
I guess, to the point is the savings worth "B" quality.
For those that have gotten them are the flaws by-and-large noticeable?
I have not gotten a doll in quite awhile and have decided to check off a long wanted doll and L-bi is on that list.
      Whatvare y'all's thoughts??

    15. I use UnoAlchemy because I don't speak Japanese and I assumed they don't allow international orders, I mean people used to go through Noppin for this reason, no?
After I learned about UnoAlchemy I felt like I could finally own a Unoa, even if it's B-grade. To me these flaws aren't super noticeable but I'm also not fussy with these things.
Now, if ordering a Unoa through the Alchemic Labo website were as easy as making an order through Fairyland, Crobidoll or Luts I'd probably go through them. I guess it would also depend on how much of a savings I'm getting (with B-grade Unoas) but I don't even know the prices for A-grade Unoas, so, whatever lol.

    16. I think you would need a magnifying glass and an expert, to see any flaws in any of the Unoas I have bought through them. I have two chibis and a b-el.

I will caution you though, they just sent out an email notice that they are going to suspend all new orders until they receive the backlog of parts that were already due by December. So I would wait until that issue is resolved before placing an order.

But yes, I believe they are worth the price, and ordering is easy.

    17. I ordered one of the tan kits - but the flaw was documented before the orders started, so I knew exactly what it would be. (There's some marbelling on her lower abdomon.) It's one of the more noticable flaws, so I'm happy that they made a specific effort to be up front about it, but honestly it doesn't bother me one bit. She is a beautifully engineered doll and my experience ordering from UnoAlchemy was great. 100% would do it again - in fact, I plan to get an L-Bi from them eventually.

In my experience the "flaws" that the B-grade dolls have are extremely minimal and a lot of people who have gotten them don't even know what the supposed flaw their doll has is.

      • x 1
    18. Actually, they just announced on Instagram that they are doing a big clearance sale on their in-stock merch, so now may be exactly when you want to buy! Elder dolls are currently 100+ yen off the retail price and chibis are 70 yen off.

      • x 1
    19. Unoalchemy is really great! The flaws on the B grade dolls are really small and if there is some sort of bigger flaw they tell about them, like the lighter area in the previous batch of tan 1.5 girls' tummies.

    20. First, thank you ALL so much for taking the time to answer my most pressing concern over quality!
      @GoodbyeYouHelloMe @aernath @redfeathers @Kimchi @Uninu

@GoodbyeYouHelloMe i actually just had my phone auto translate and didn't think anything of ordering. I did just check on the check out screen and only Asian areas are included! Their site is 40,040 Yen or $362.80 US for an L-Bi & B-El

@aernath yes, they do have the notice on the main page, but it says back in January and the do have the "available" dolls active...so maybe they are caught up? I don't want to order till the end of the month anyhow, so I guess that will help with more time...I'm hoping.

Again, thank you all so very much for your time!

So, who do you all use for the best fot for their clothes (boys). :whee:

      • x 1
    21. I actually just emailed them about one of the Ani boys because of the sale! They let me know that they are reserving orders but won't be invoicing anyone until that backlog is cleared up. So you can put in an order but you might have to be patient. I'm ok with waiting personally, but just FYI.

      • x 1
    22. Backlog is all cleared, by the way! Alchemic Labo got a little distracted at Christmas, but they got through all the orders like a champ in Jan.

I'm not allowed to comment much since I work for them and sale convos aren't allowed in discussions, but thanks for everyone who gave their opinions! True, honest assessments from people who have actually purchased from UnoAlchemy are way more useful to people who want to buy than anything I could say.

    23. @Minda You guys are great! :) Thank you SO much for all the work you do!

    24. @Minda thank you for ketting us know.
I will say, hearing everyone's feedback certainly put my mind at ease.
I had assumed "B grade" wasn't too bad, and I did check the Instagram page and saw posting of "flaws" which were termed "birth marks" and it was funny as that was the thought that came to mind when seeing the pics.
I thought the Instagram page useful also, customer feed back is great and a picture is worth 1000 words.
I can also say, i loved hearing how people got communication prior to payment on the reasson for why they were considered "B grade".
Anyhow...lol, thank you and again, thanks to everyone else too!

    25. I just paid for a fairy skin Sist from the UnoAlchemy sale and I can't wait to welcome her home! When I first got into the hobby almost 10 years ago, a Unoa would cost you at least 60000 yen for a blank kit on YJ (before any shopping service fees), and around $800-1000 on DoA. I honestly never thought I would own one, so UnoAlchemy has been a god send!

What eye size do you prefer for Sist? I want a younger, more innocent look. Thanks!

      • x 1
    26. Dangit, I'm so jealous. The website does not list sist fairy skin anymore, so I'm guessing it's not available. My next one in line is L-bi in fairy skin. If they don't have fairy skin for sale, I'm dropping out lol. Fairy skin is so pretty.

      • x 1
    27. So jealous of your fairy skin gal! The deals are really so good! :) I remember those days.. I had a 1.0 lusis years and years ago that I got for a "steal" of $700.. I'm so glad we have unoaalchemy now :)

For eyes- I prefer 10mm myself, but they do tend to gap in the sides. Here's two of my sists wearing 12mm and 10mm respectively for consideration :)

    28. @cherryquf I follow them on Instagram so I saw the posting and emailed them right away! I think they are out of Lusis/Sist in fairy skin as you said but according to the DoA news thread posted yesterday they do still have L-bi in fairy skin so hopefully you can get one :)

@MaudMAryFlynn Thank you so much, that is exactly what I wanted! Your twins are lovely :)

      • x 1
    29. @MaudMAryFlynn they are beautiful!
UGH, I just can not wait to get one!
Stupid money always seems to get in the way by not being there, lol!

    30. Thank you! :D I understand you on that last bit- the current clearance is killing me because I have no money to spend on more unoas!
For your earlier question about b-grades too, all of mine are b grade and the only flaws I can find are seam lines on the back of my boy feet- and only the boy feet (maybe due to the different toe shape?) Otherwise they are as perfect as can be, and no less quality than any other company sells :)

    31. No fairy skin girls, but I think we still have plenty of fairy boys!

    32. I like 10mm eyes in mine. I find that 12s can often have way too much iris. If you find a 12mm with a slightly small iris, it should be perfect. Otherwise 10mm seems great.

    33. Your Sists are so amazing! I really love how versatile the Sist plate can be!

I remember paying $900 for my first full Unoa (and probably spent more than that trying bodies until I got a working hybrid on a Kaye wiggs headback). I had a whole bunch of older unoas I bought before UnoAlchemy happened too. I thought I'd be jealous of all the people who can come in now and just get any unoa they want, but it turns out I'm just really happy to see more of them around.

      • x 1
    34. Welp... I've definitely taken the unoa plunge! So hi everyone. I've traded for a Sist (1.0, and OLD girl who I think is very old whiteish skin? I don't know, I'll have to take a closer look when she gets to me). AND, Well, I emailed Unoalchemy about their sale for a Lusis. Oop.. It's all good though :3 I'm excited and anxious and all kinds of wanting to squeal!~

    35. I'm seeing your post quite late. Did you get your measurements? I can measure my Unoa, if you still need measurements.

    36. Sorry for the delay in replying. I hope I'm not repeating what someone else has posted. The 3 sizes you mention are what's for sale currently from UnoAlchemy. Historically, there's Unoa Quluts Zero, an SD-sized bjd and the tiny Unoa Fluorite and Azurite (girl and boy). There's also the Unoa Quluts 2nd Mocha and Cream sculpts.
The Elder girls are Belia and Ange. The Elder boys are Xyle and Zest.
They're ALL fabulous and I have a feeling I'm gonna go broke trying to keep up!

    37. Hello everyone,
I'm wondering if and when Alchemic Labo will release Unoa in fairy skin again...do you have any idea?
I was thinking about buying one of these girls but they seem to be somehow like unicorns...
Every idea/news will be very much apprecieted :3nodding:

    38. @Valentina they seem to be available rather regularly in Fairy Skin based on what I've seen at Unoalchemy. Have you checked with Unoalchemy in regards to their current stock and projected release dates? They're going to be much more straightforward to deal with than trying to get through to Alchemic Labo.

    39. Fairy skin happens pretty regularly. It's a standard color. Usually they cast fairy skin whenever the quantities of a doll are running low so they get fairy and fresh at the same time.

At this particular time the only doll we don't have ANY fairy skin for is the 1.5 (Lusis/Sist), but I imagine we'll make more next time we cast her. We are very low on fairy for the elder sisters too, but we'll make more of them soon also.

    40. I've just bought an Unoa Sist faceplate in fairy skin, and I'd like to buy her a colormatched body. What's the best way to go about doing that? I know some companies have you mail a part in, but I'm not sure I'd want to risk that. I've also heard of color matching based on pantone/paint chips? Is that reliable? I was considering both Impldoll and Resinsoul, but I'd like to know of other options too.

    41. @nocchios I've got a small army of WS dolls from various companies, so I went ahead and compared them to my Fairy Skin boy. The Luts Pureskin White and Little Monica WS dolls I have are literal perfect matches to the Fairy Skin. Fairyland WS is close-ish, but has a noticeably yellower undertone.

    42. Good to know, thanks! Do you have pictures by chance?

Also, is the Luts Pureskin white the same as their standard white, or is it a special edition color?

    43. I don't have any pictures on me, no. Honestly, the best thing about the Fairy Skin being so pale is that even if you got a body that was slightly off-color the differences will disappear once you get a faceup on the faceplate.

Ah, sorry, I got my Volks confused with my Luts. Luts' fancy name for their white resin is Real skin white. So it's the Real skin white that's the perfect match to the Fairy Skin. I think they should just call it what it is: white resin.:P

    44. That's fine, thank you so much! Now I'm even more excited for my girl's arrival...I haven't done a proper hybrid before, so this is all new territory!

    45. @nocchios glad I could help and good luck with the hybriding!:)

    46. Thank you for your kind answer. I've already bought a Chibi from you but this time I'd like a Lusis from Alchemic Labo. I always go to this website and can never see complete dolls in fairy skin for sell...only parts :(
      BasicLineๅฆ–็ฒพ่‚Œ [้Œฌ้‡‘่ก“ๅทฅๆˆฟWEBSHOPใƒปๆœฌ้คจ]
Maybe that's an old website? Uhm...

    47. Thank you for your answer. I've already bought from Unoalchemy but this time I wanted a grade A doll from Alchemic Labo. I've got a grade A Unoa head and wanted to have a perfect match :3nodding:

    48. Noooooo....UnoaAlchemy...they are now closed for February...:atremblin
In March they will only be taking orders for the Rowan :...(
I waited too long for my L-Bi who I decided i want in Fairyskin...
      2 months...:(
I am :eusa_pray i can find one sooner. I picked out a name, face-up artist, wig and clothes too...D.R.A.T.S.

    49. There is a L-bi in fairy skin at Mandarake
      ใพใ‚“ใ ใ‚‰ใ‘้€š่ฒฉ

    50. lol @Swampruler I saw!
You know i went looking every where i could! They have a Cyst on a boy body too and that caught my eye too...now i am debating about getting that one.
There is also one in the market place too.
None in Fairyskin, so i may have to compromise on the skin lol

    51. It's offical...
I am IN THE UNOA CLUB!!! :celebrate:dance:celebrate
I just made a Mandrake order...he is in Fresh Skin, but that's okay, never order3d through their website but i saw 2 box openings on Unoas on youtube so i felt safe.
He has been on my list for sooooo long, and I am just OVER the moon right now!
I have a face-up artist pocked out, and his welcoming outfit...FREAKING out!

    52. Hi!!^^ I got a doubt what are the differences between unoa lusis/sist 1.0 and 1.5? Sorry if it's been answer already I couldn't find it!

    53. @chibi_chibi someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's the elbows. 1.0 are single jointed, 1.5 are double-jointed.

    54. Ah so it's not a big difference then!!^^ thank you!! ;) and do you know when was the 1.5 unoa released? I mean what year.

    55. Thank you!!^^ I always liked unoa lusis/sist but actually I don't know much about them!! Thanks again!!

    56. The 1.0 and 1.5 also have different kind backs. 1.5 has a separate piece in the middle of bust and hip pieces while 1.0 doesn't have that.

    57. I think the 1.5 have ridges in their inner arm pit joint to help them pose, as well as pegs on the back of their legs to help them sit. I don't have a 1.0 to compare to but those are features I know off the top of my head :)
