Ain Completed

Aug 7, 2007

    1. kesschan - I'm not quite sure what you mean. :)

Cheri - I'm going to try to get a smaller boy sculpted hopefully by spring/summer of next year. He should be in the 44-46cm range.

    2. just amazing!
i looks to me like a 60' boy, he looks kinda retro.. :D

    3. I'm sorry about my poor English

I want to mean that how did you make the grooves on the joints when casting resin ? and also the holes which are the elastic cord is pass in how did you do that?

      hope you understand what i mean ^^;;

    4. The hole where the cord passes through were drilled out and I use a dremel tool to cut out the grooves after I pencil them on (for some reason I didn't leave them when I made the molds, but will do next time:doh ...less work for me, heh)! Next time I make molds I'm going to think a bit harder as to how I set them up!

    5. I was taking pictures this morning of the whiteskin Ain...then he butted in...

      Okay, he's done now!

    6. This is how it started...
Would you please move over there?
Don't touch my hair! It's borrowed!
How's this then? We can take the picture together.

Anyway...if this is dumb I blame it on the cold medicine!

    7. Eeeee -squeels-

that was soooo cute! Thanks for that it definitely made me smile :D

    8. You carved a doll!?! So awesome! All your dolls look great!

      :D

    9. Finally I got to work on a face-up for him. I still need some practice but this will do for now! And my Ain is modded a bit too. I sanded his mouth, chin, and nose plus added the eyelid crease like Keid has. And I can't get pastels to work for the life of me...this is done with acrylics and watercolor pencil.

      Wolfie Pie -Thanks !

    10. He looks so cute! I like a lot his mouth and he looks so natural. If you can get some pastels you would add a little to smooth the eyebrows.
The photostory made me smile ^^ oh i needed it.

    11. Another picture...taken without the macro turned on  ! I could've taken a picture of a bug's eyeballs with that thing!

    12. Great job!! He looks very natural, just like a boy should look.

    13. omg!!!!! *dies* HES FINISHED!!! I realy ant belive what a great job you did! >.< not sure if you alredy awancered this but*admitidly didnt read the hole thred* are you going to cast more to sell? if so how much will the they be? thanx ^.^

      -Kira

    14. Runy & Spooky, glad you guys liked the photo story(well mini one anyway). I just have to play sometimes! And Runy, I tried to get my pastels to stick but they wouldn't (testor's maybe?) I'm sure there's a thread I read somewhere on here that has some tips about pastels not sticking. I might even give airbrushing a shot. I still need more practice though ;) !

Bruny- thanks! usually I really like soft natural colors.

kira-death - yep! There's one on eBay...he's whiteskin version, and I can also take orders for them. They're $450 white or normal skin, wig, eyes, seams get sanded... that stuff :) .

Also, I'm working on a website at the moment, lumedoll.com, for my boys (and perhaps girls and small children one day). Once it's up and running and Keid's finished I'm thinking about putting something in the news section. I guess I'll see what happens....:) .

    15. If you want to get the pastels to stick, you need to either sand every surface with super-fine sandpaper, or some people use a clear matte primer spray - but I've found the spray doesn't help much on those slick surfaces.
Having a very soft brush helps too. I prefer animal-hair brushes because they hold the powder so well between the bristles.

Of course, I suck at the fine lined details for finishing - need to learn to water down my paints first. :)

I love him - he's becoming more handsome every day.

    16. OMFG I know I JUST saw him!!!! >.< so sence I dont have that much moneys in teh dolly fund curently ^.^;; If I order one from you how long will it take to be made and can I request eye n' wig color? ^.^ thanx! ^.^

      -Kira

    17. It takes me usually less than a week to make (a couple of days?) and if you want a certain eye and wig color I'm sure I could do that. :)

    18. YAY!!~ awasom ^.^ now....to get the money lol ^.^; thanx alot ^.^

      -Kira

    19. More Ain to love?

    20. Omg! The way he poses reminds me of an Abercrombie & Fitch pin-up boy! LLLLooooovvvve!

Still want! Current Ain fund: $45/$450:...(

    21. wow how handsome! You have done a wonderful job!

    22. i love your close up photos:love! he really has a lovely face. beautiful sculpt.

    23. Whooo AIN!!! TwT
I dunno if you remember, I'm the girl who didn't wanna let him go at the meetup :whee:
He's such an amazing doll, he looks absolutely BREATH TAKING in person, for all of those curious to know!!

    24. Oh, that'll be GREAT!!
Soooo looking forward to the mini boy! :love

      Thanks! :)

    25. Of course I remember! I had a lot of fun! :)

    26. After I finished some face-up work today, I tried my hand at a tattoo. It's a bit darker in person I think. It was fun to do actually...might have to do some more...

    27. Oh that's soo cool. He looks so sexy in that neclace and his hair all kinda-sorta rumpled! <3 It's a really interesting design.

    28. WOW!!~~ Great job!!~ He's amazing!!~

    29. This boy is truelly amazing! He reminds me of someone i thought up along time ago!!

    30. WOW this end result is very impressive!!
These dolls always seem so much better in resin. I have a question hope you didn't answer this but don't you have to coat the inside of the paper clay as well as the outside when making molds to stop it being absorbed? but how do you protect the inside of say the arms?

      thanks!!

    31. The openings to the arms and legs are plugged up with clay, then drilled out later, and the larger pieces that have core molds are sprayed inside and out. Hope that helps!:)

    32. Can't you use a soft clay such as plastercine and then it would come out easy? rather than having to drill? sounds like drilling would be for a harder clay to get it out?

Do you have pictures of how you made the core molds? I am guessing that includes a mold of the hollow area and then an outer areas and you are pouring the actual doll area? if that makes sense. I am still trying to grasp the mold making.. as you can see.

    33. Oh, I meant I plug the places on the original so the silicone doesn't leak in, make the mold, then the resin cast is drilled out to allow the cord to pass through. You can use a straw for a core mold, but I don't think that would work with pressure casting though (I believe the straw would compress). To get a better idea of moldmaking, smooth-on makes a video (I think it's like $3, maybe....)and Batchix did a great moldmaking for a head tutorial here and Donn from Bishonenhouse has a great moldmaking tutorial on his site. They're super helpful.....I'm pretty much useless at explaining things.

    34. I will take a look thanks!

    35. Wow is all i can say. He looks very handsome.

I saw your sale thread first! I think i'll keep up with your future projects. I really like Ain.

Would you ever sell him as a head on his own? I'm just sad that i can't afford him this time round, i'll be looking out for your next order period!

    36. he is a really handsom doll:D

    37. Wow.....A+++++!
Thus! The body should be less flat...it is if he has not lungs at all...Or smoked too much...IMHO

      Final conclusion : Still a+++++++++!

    38. Your boys are so charming!! :D I love them!
