Ain Completed

Aug 7, 2007

    1. I'm working on a doll to cast in resin. So far I have cast his head but the rest is still being worked on. I am using premier stone clay then I'll finish it with mr. white surfacer, then pour a silicone mold (using Oomoo 25 at the moment, by smooth-on). I hope this picture is okay. [IMG]

When he's finished, he will actually be my first resin BJD. I have two more that are made from wood and one from stoneclay ( they are at www.dollist.deviantart.com) but from far away I can't tell too much difference.

    2. Omg, he's lovely! Do you plan on selling casts of him?

Your doll Lucus turned out amazing. How long did that take you to carve?
      =0

    3. Thanks ! At this point I'm not sure. I still have a lot to learn. The thought does float through my head from time to time :) ! And my wood doll took about eight or nine months to carve.

    4. Wow, I salute your attention span. xD
Because he's made out of wood, do you have to keep him in relatively dry areas and not in humidy and the like or did you seal him with something?

    5. He was painted with a mixture of gesso, modeling paste and gouache. I just keep him out in the room and I think he'll be fine.

    6. Here's a new picture of the doll I am currently working on. I am finishing up the jointing now and I'll cast it when I'm done (had to try the head first though!) [IMG]

This is the first time I've done a face-up on resin and I think I need to practice more!

    7. Wow, love his long, lean look. Great work.

    8. Very impressed with your dolls - they're all beautifully made and have so calm, but expressive faces.

Please post more pictures - I'd love to see more :)

    9. Wow he's looking great! Casting is kinda funny at first, but once you start getting the hang of each different mold it gets better.

    10. That face-up isn't so bad, you just need something more around the eyes, but that's just my opinion.
      ^^

    11. I think you might be right on! Got any suggestions? :)

    12. I haven't done many face-ups myself, but I hear chalk pastels work very well for eye shadows and blush.

I would recommend colors that go along with the ones you chose for the lips.
Like tans, lighter browns, maybe even some reds.

    13. Thanks! I did some blushing but I don't think it got dark enough. I'll go back and give it another shot!

    14. If it's not showing up dark enough, I think mixing a darker color of the same family would make it work without straying from the original intent.
      ^^

    15. I excited for you on your first resin attempt! I watch you on Devianart and am a fan of your work.

    16. He's gorgeous! Congrats on the first resin attempt, you do lovely work :)

    17. Thanks! Trying to finish up the body and already other "heads" have popped into my mind! I've really got to focus! (my husband says *jokingly, I hope* that I've got ADD & OCD)

    18. I went onto your deviant page because I wanted to get a better look. WOW! Great anatomy on all your boys and I can see a simularity in the anime in your favorites and your sculpting style! I can see refinement in your latest boy too. Realistic boys are the rage right now...are you going to cast him to sell? I would be curious and possibly interested.

For a basic face up you didn't do badly at all. More shading and softer eyebrows would make him loo ever so sexy:)

    19. He's so cool looking, kinda reminds me of those tall manga characters... something like Darian off of Sailor Moon... Man :) your doll is amazing!

Much success to you :) ;)

    20. I think I'm going to give his face another go! I'm really thankful for all the suggestions! I'm not sure about casting him to sell because I'm still working out the kinks. Right now I think I want a base to start from, then I can start changing/upgrading? parts and make better molds and such.

    21. What artist doesn't?

    22. Smart way to do it! I'm looking forward to seeing what his next face will look like:)

    23. Well, I've started to rework the face and fix a few things that really needed changing...then I just went plastic surgery on him. Nose job, chin, lips, and then ears. I had been messing around with one of his resin heads and discovered how to make the look I was after. Then yesterday I decided to work on the original (which is easy to sand down and add more clay)...it was either that or start over completely. I think I like it now...I'm so hard to please!:sweat

I'll try to post some new pictures of the head when it's finished.

Hopefully, if I can keep working like I have been, he might be ready for casting next month.

    24. Here's a late night picture of how he's coming along. I am up very late these days!

    25. He's very beautiful and looks professionally done.
The muscle definition is very good, the body line is very smooth and harmonic and I'm blown away by the hands and feet ;)

    26. The head is roughed out, now, but needs a lot of little adjustments.
[IMG] If it wasn't enough work to be building the body, I had to re-work this head too...but I figured if I'm going to spend time and money making copies of it I'd better like it. Sometimes I don't know why I'm doing this...making joints gets me crabby too  ! Oh, and his ears are just shells, really, not finished, yikes!

    27. WOW he's scrummy!
I hope my body i'm doing goes so well...i haven't even done the head yet!
I'm going to be watching closely at your progress!

    28. Well, now I have a vacuum chamber plus parts so...after a good talking to by my husband....I'm thinking about casting this doll for sale. I think there are going to be some ups and downs but in the end I hope to have a good quality doll to offer. Hopefully in a couple of months he'll be ready.

    29. wow! nice body! he's the slim man of my dreams:lol:
      and...his feet! wow!!!!:love

    30. He's a beautiful boy, and his expression seems so real.

      How tall is he?

    31. He's about 61 cm tall.

    32. Just a progress photo. Sorry for the pics looking so weird, I seem to only be able to take them at night.[IMG]
Hopefully I'll be making molds this week.

    33. I like how he is turning out. I can't wait to see the casts of him. The hands and feet look especially pretty in that last picture. He's very lovely!

    34. Just an update. I'm making his molds this week and hopefully I'll be finished and have a cast of him in a week or two. Then I'll try to post some pictures. It has been a lot of hard work and I hope he turns out okay.

    35. He has such a beautiful serious face. He looks like a classic hero, hopefully
not a tragic hero. I would really love to see him finished, he is a major
acomplishment and you should feel proud of your hard work.

    36. I like everything about this boy, but his hands and feet are especially beautiful. They look very real. I wouldn't mind shaking his tiny little hand someday, maybe :fangirl:

    37. OMG! ME WANT! HE LOOKS WONDERFULL! your sculpting abilities are AMAZING!

    38. Thanks for the kind words! I'm almost done! Just arms and legs to deal with now (mold making that is!). Then fiddle with the resin and the UV stabilizer (woohoo, thanks Kaye!).

    39. All the dolls you've made are so gorgeous! What great hips. Tall too!

    40. [IMG]

Just a picture of the first head cast. I'm thinking I need to tweak his pigment a little, he's a bit yellow (jaundice ?). I don't know if the photo shows it that well. I'm not on my regular computer with photoshop so getting any pictures on here or deviantart for a while is a bit time consuming, but I'm having a lazy Sunday and thought I'd take some pics.

    41. Trying different hair! Really he needs a faceup but can't get into just yet! Sorry for the blurry pic on blondey!

      [IMG] [IMG]

    42. Just pulled out the core mold and took off the clay. Hahahahahahahahah! Yes it really looks like...some sort of...well its pink rubber! Ahh, making dolls is so much fun! Maybe I should post a picture of the mold.

      That's all.

    43. Haha, I love how you're dealing with all the difficulties with such a great sense of humor! The jaundice comment made me laugh. And yes, I'd love to see the pink rubber!
And of course, he looks amazing. Incredibly professional. The muscle definition is superb, and his feet and hands are just gorgeous. I'd love to see him completed and with a face-up. He's lovely as it is. I can't even imagine how gorgeous he'll be once he's finished!

    44. Haha, for you, here is the mold (it's not pretty, but it's what's inside that counts, right?)!
[IMG] Thanks for such a nice comment!

    45. OMG!!
he is really awesome!!! What a handsome boy!!!! *____*
would you cast his body soon?
That body is really beautiful!! really, really...!!!!

    46. I'll probably cast his body in the next week, those molds are finished, next I have to make molds of his arms and legs (hands and feet are done too). I'm just fixing some details on his limbs that I wasn't crazy about before so it's holding me up some. I really want to be finished soon. I really like him but if this goes on too much longer it could be over between us  .

    47. WOW i love him so much! :love love his body, everything compliment perfectly.
Heh i think your mold is pretty ^^
I went to your deviantgallery and your dolls are beautiful *___*

    48. Runy: Thanks! I'm glad you like him.

    49. I was taking some pics off my camera from last week and found one of my boy Ain "turning human" , has some resin parts on. I did give his lower regions to my sister who sews so well so she can work on some clothes for him.

I think his legs look a bit short in this picture but maybe it's the angle (I take pictures as i go just so I can look back and say "what!?" ) Maybe I should take a better one and get some feedback before I go make molds (good idea? :sweat ).

EDIT: I strung him together and had him stand up to take another look at his thighs. Maybe they're okay?

    50. I've finally poured the molds for his legs and will hopefully finish the arms in a couple of days. I'll probably start casting soon after I get my pressure tank set up (it's in my room right now and strangly reminds me of a Dalek). So if all goes well I'll have a hole/bubble free boy that is protected from the sinister UV light in wonderful fleshtone...for the world to behold. Just kidding, got carried away there.

      that's all for now.

    51. Your boy is very beautiful. His face is very impressive.

    52. Okay, finally all the molds are done. In my opinion whoever said it's the journey not the destination never had a good place to go (this is tongue-in-cheek, I'm not fond of mold making). Hopefully I'll have some pictures up by the end of next week either here or at deviantart of the first cast which will be white a sort of prototype doll so I can fix anything if I need to. I also have some leftover silicone so I might make a sleeping eye version of Ain too.

    53. :D I can't wait!:D

    54. Oh wow, he's awesome. I love the muscle definition. Just curious what resin are you using for your final product?

    55. tyviris : I'm using smooth-on resin.

    56. Oh cool, thank you for the quick reply.

    57. he's gorgeous o_o

I am completely blown away by the detail in the hands and feet.

      his body is:love

    58. Wow! I am in awe. :abow: *worships* His face is so gorgeous. And his body is even better! How much are you thinking of selling him for? Cause I really want a boy for my first doll, and he just screams "Pick me!"

      :aheartbea :aheartbea :aheartbea

    59. Man, you're just blasting through this, aren't you? I'm so jealous. I'm so sick of the setbacks and the dangers and everything, but I just can't give up and quit. All it takes is me playing with my first junk cast strung together to get me all excited and eager again.
It's a pity I've become so sensitive to the resin already. I can't afford the new full-face respirator and plastic hoody-suit I'll need to get back to casting.. at least not yet, so I'm going to have to get back to sculpting instead for a while. time to work on a female body, but it feels so wrong to start before Adam's finished.. :doh

    60. First cast. I was testing the molds so I have poor little ghost boy here. Just finished today, he's still blank-faced.

I'm going to cast him in human color next week (I hope) and if everything works fine, I'll start casting him under pressure (which is going to take a while- the resin I use set up slow and my pressure chamber is small:sweat ).

      NeuroticSouthpaw: Thanks!

      Miss_Pygmalion: I was thinking around $400 , but I haven't decided anything definate yet.
