I received a shipping notice for my October FCS late yesterday evening. Can't wait to get my whiteskin Elena! Thank you all for your help choosing a skin tone.

 

*groan* Mandarake! I love it and loathe it...for being utterly awesome and making me poor! I got my Sasha at an unbelievably cheap price...and picked up a body for my Masha for silly money too...I'm always on there looking for my current grails - at the moment it's the sailor FCS boys' sets to complete my collection...

Ashbet - Loup is beautiful! Do I spy a Raven faceup there? Just lovely!

And I so envy you all in the US with the online FCS, but my bank account just gives thanks that it hasn't reached the International site...!

About Mandarake, I have just heard about it, but never really had the nerve to check it out, maybe I will, but just to look around, no more dollies in 1 or 2 years for me, hehe! Or... in 5. ^^;;
But it's so nice to hear that some of you have found great stuff there at good prices.

Nope, don't look at Mandarake. There's no such thing as "just look" at Mandarake! I was going to "just look" at Mandarake this afternoon - and promply ended up buying yet another doll. Just couldn't resist, what with me being pretty sure it's a Volks Schulze (one of the MSDs) and the doll coming at a very, VERY good price ... *hangs head* I need to sell some of my dolls to make space for the new ones. XD

Haha, Khell! This is so true. >_<; Mandrake is evil and owns my wallet. With the value of the Yen dropping, the deals are phenomenal.

On that note, I recently acquired another volks girl (I hope it's ok that there's a non-volks in this pic). Illyana (far right) is a f-35 on an SD16 body courtesy of mandarake. :3 I'm so thrilled to finally get an f-35; can't wait to finish her look.

My Ami Ayase one off arrived today! Volks literally had the package wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper with a big silver bow! It was the most special doll I have ever received. Here's a picture of her from my box opening:

It's finally happened. After years of being in the hobby, I had the chance to go to DollPa32 this past weekend. It was a blast and I ran into some DoA folks while I was there, who were very kind to my lost soul. I think it was the killing blow to my will power. The Volks sculpts really have an amazing look and power when you see them in person!

To that end, what do you all think of the f38 head on an SD13 girl body (or similar)? I've heard that it looks a bit big even on the boy bodies. Crazy thought or potentially doable? I'm really enthralled with the idea of a sly-looking lady.

(Alternately, any questions about what was there. I need to get through my photos to share them.)

 

Hey there Volks owners!

I recently got my first SD13 boy body through the second hand market aaaand... I got a feeling he has the wrong legs. The thigh joints stick out a lot and don't appear to fit nicely into the socket. Also, the characteristic 'groove' line that I seem to see on all older Volks bodies is not there, nor is the horizontal groove in the lower leg part that locks the knee in 90 degrees. All parts are marked with 'VSD13' (it kinda looks like VSD1D tho). More pics here.

My first guess is he accidentally came with Volks SD13 girl legs (based on this pic), but I'm a complete Volks n00b so I will have to turn to you for help ^^" What legs are these and do they belong with this older SD13 body? He already has the 'new' style hands and feet with screws instead of resin hooks.

 

[MENTION=6965]Pete[/MENTION] - those legs are perfectly normal, for an oldskin body! The locking knees and smooth-fitting thighs didn't come in until the pureskin bodies came in. You can also tell it's oldskin from the more rounded elbow ball. My 1st version Chris has the same style body!

 

@ thesaraghina: ahh I didn't realize that the Volks bodies changed when they started casting in pureskin! ^^" But that should clear it up, thanks!

 

I'm loving seeing all the new and new-to-you dolls. It's turning into a Volks December here, my one-off Cristal is due to arrive today and I got a shipping notice for my ebony Pearl FCS last night, with luck she will be here Monday! Just in time to put under the tree, since she's a gift from my husband.

A question for SD16 girl owners: My SD16 body (Amelia's from 2006) had two magnets in the legs (at the top, in the hip joints). They fell out. I assume they're there for added stability with standing? Also, there were two magnets but I noticed four groves for magnets - two in the joints (on the inside) and two in the sockets. Would it be better to get two additional magnets and have all four glued in? Or will it make the legs too hard to move?

Khell, wow, I'd never noticed magnets in the SD16 girl hips -- so, I looked at one of my newest SD16 girls, and there they were! (Learn something new every day ) However, you won't need 4 magnets; just 2 -- one in each hip, on the inside hip ball; no magnets in the indentations in the inside of the hip sockets.

 

Ashbet: She looks so cute! I'm always happy to send business Tree Design's way; aren't their clothes wonderful?!

And geez, I never realized there were magnets either. I'm gonna have to play with my girl a bit when I get home. O_O

lol, everyone seems to be getting their One-offs so fast, mine isn't coming til Monday. Well, with my dollie funds gone I had to choose UPS ground, hehe. ^^;;

Ashbet, awww, she looks even more adorable now that we can see her full outfit. Very very cute!

 

My Lorina arrived! UPS just left her on my porch, so I was in a big hurry to get home and rescue her last night. She was a bit chilly but otherwise unharmed ^_^
Her package was wrapped like a present and included a nice note from Volks USA staff! I've got photos of the package and more of Lorina in her arrival thread.

My FCS SD16 girls arrived yesterday. I've only dressed Ebony Garnet so far; Sunlight F23/Yori is wearing a bathrobe


They both have the "dramatic" face-up, which I'm very glad I chose. They seem much softer in person, but not too soft.

Congrats to everyone on the doll arrivals! Volks did a really good job on these guys, my goodness. @w@ I really love their new style for painting lips!

I'll be welcoming a oneoff of my own soon, though it's not one I actually won myself. >w<;; Seems like the second time is the charm for getting this oneoff Cecile from Mandarake that I've been after! One of my dream dolls will be on his way home to me in a few days - I can't believe it. They didn't tell me until after I bought him that he's got a bit of staining around where his wig fits, but I think I'll be able to clean it off. @w@ I'm pretty good with a magic eraser! (My one superpower... TAT) He'll be my new Sherlock character, and Gatsby's brother. I feel like there's a resemblance, even though I don't usually see one between Cecile and Isao. I'm so in love with him, and he's not even here yet!

Gatsby won't be the only one with the SD13 body after all, hehehe~ Also, I know it's a long shot, but if anyone recognizes him or his outfit from any Volks events, please let me know! I'd love to know when/where he came from. (Even though I bought him one of the Volks detective sets for his character, I still love that oneoff outfit - it reminds me of something Yu Watase would have drawn for Fushigi Yuugi. /old)

 

Congrats Lolita! Cecile is a beauty. Love those smoky eyes. His regal Chinese style outfit looks like PureDrop... I'll bet it has a million layered pieces. ^^ i know I've seen Volks use those Puredrop outfits a lot on oneoffs, but I don't specifically recognize this one.

I hope you're right, Motiko! I don't think I'd be able to part with either of them. And I do love SD-size dolls, my collection is definitely moving back in that direction. And yeah, I figured you knew who he was. I don't know why I'm so superstitious, I was raised that way and the doll hobby doesn't seem to be helping me to overcome it! XD

Thanks, galatia9! I was really tempted to get an F-17, Mandarake has one at a great price. But I know that I'd always want a Cecile more, and would never love the F-17 as much because of it. But one look at this boy and I fell HARD. I really felt like he was "the one" in that really cheesy way, so when he sold out even though I put in an order for him, I was pretty heartbroken. But maybe what Volks says about their dolls is right - it'll happen if it's meant to be. I try to look at it that way and just bear the disappointments as best I can.

Himitsu - Thank you! Sometimes I'm really torn with oneoffs - I'll like their faces but not their outfits, or their outfits but not the faceups, and I feel like if I get it then it would be a shame to part them, but also a shame to keep something I would never use. >_<; Sometimes I confuse even myself, heh~ But I'm really glad too! I still am sort of in shock, and I'm going to try and contain myself as best I can until he's actually in my arms, just in case something happens between then and now. I never trust my luck - 95% of the time, it's bad!

 

I'm happy to say that I brought home a new Volks girl, she arrived yesterday. She's a modded old F09 girl. I named her Veera she likes to hang out with another girl of mine who is a Volks body hybird. They both look so cute on their SD10 bodies.

 

AlmySidaKay, congrats on your new Volks girl. The old sculpts need love and good homes!

Lolita, omg, your Cecile is *stunning*! I love his non-smiley mouth and aloof eyes. He'll make a good brother for Gatsby.

Hello Shunji Kun nice to meet you here and what a beautiful Mark. I was from Singapore, I moved to Canada 10 years ago and is now living in the US. As you can see from my profile location, I'm lost, probably displaced! I miss Singapore.

Volks had a booth in AFA this year. I was suppose to have gone back for my niece's wedding on 6th Dec but shelved the decision at the last minute. Otherwise, I would have gone for the con. Now, I miss the con and my sister is angry with me for not attending her daughter's wedding. The photos look exciting. Did you visit the Volks booth at AFA?

Anyway, welcome to this forum and nice to meet you! Hope to see more photos of Mark. My Isao V1 (my avatar) is also 10 years old. Like your Mark, my Isao's faceup is also company sealed, so I know it's very well done. Mark's eye brows look interesting, is that the old style Volks eyebrows? Volks eyebrows nowadays look very different.

He really has brought joy to me, and a lot, I have this feeling inside when I look at him or handle him. I can't describe it, but I can say he has made me really really happy.
And the best part is he didn't arrive alone! He came with my FCS F-16 I ordered in October! This double arrival has really changed the holidays for me.

Everyone's dolls are so lovely! I love seeing the one-offs. It's nice to see your Mark, shunji_kun. It's not a sculpt I see very often.

Here's my latest addition, an F17 with an Illness Illusion faceup that I "adopted" from Himitsu. He's called Rogerian, like my Lucas, since he's going to be the mischievous, snarky side of that character.

I was at AFA SG... ^^ Volks booth was amazing, but only DDs were displayed and sold... the other items were figurines and toys... ><
I did ask them to bring SD next year. The staff were really nice and they said they are thinking about it... ^^
