[Adopted] Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XIII

Jun 25, 2014

    1. I was quite pleased to finally see SD 16 girls offered for FCS this month. I want to take the plunge but am worried about that body. I have to admit I love Iplehouse dolls more than my Volks boy and girls. I sold off my Unoa Zero as she was the worst posing doll I ever owned. How does the SD 16 girl body compare to the Iplehouse SID girls and Unoa Zero?

Also, is the Volks suntan color similar to Iplehouse's "real skin"?

Thank you so much in advance!

    2. Lol that's funny, because i greatly prefered my Unoa Zero's posing to my sd16 i had xD;

    3. Wow, I'm sorry for everyone that has had trouble with the zip tie, it's always worked really well for me. I will say something we learned from the dolly doctor was to only pull/tighten one side at a time? Putting tension on the elastic seems to thin it slightly so it will move within the zip. I will freely admit that I'm a bit of a dolly grease monkey. I love taking them apart and seeing how they're strung and work. I'd almost completely taken apart my first dollfie dream within days of getting her. lol.

    4. I'm also surprised everyone has so much trouble with the zip tie. The trick is to pull the elastic both ways so that it gets skinny, and then use your other hand to move the zip tie up and down. Then when you let go, the elastic gets fat again and the zip tie is stuck again.

    5. Does anyone have a photo of an sd16 girl standing next to sdgr boy?

    6. Thank you :D!! Her wig is from the second release of Lieselotte. I love that wig!

It's all about personal preference. Personally for me I know the sight of sweet little Lieselotte's head on a slender, mature SDGr body was a look that I didn't like, and as SD16 is even more grown up and "masculine" with those shoulders (lol....) I'm not sure. But if you like that then it might be for you :)!

My SD16 could hold a pose better than my Unoa Zero without any extra work (sueding, wiring, etc) but I always found my SID girls' elbow mechanisms easier to manipulate than my SD16's and more maneuverable at the under-bust joint. Though, finicky posing aside, I'm not sure I could choose a favorite among them.

    7. Absolutely no amount of manipulation of the elastic could that zip tie to budge or do anything besides scratch up the inside of my doll's head, and that is why I finally cut it off entirely and tied a regular knot in the elastic.

    8. Iplehouse nYID tops that are stretchy or for the small/medium bust will fit SD16 girls okay, though usually I go the other way (with nYID wearing SD16 tops! ;)). nYID girls have way bigger hips, though, so fitted non-stretchy things won't quite work. Pants will certainly not work. And nYID is too big for SDGr girls! I have a few official nYID Iplehouse sets if you want to ask about them or PM me!

The SD16 hands are the same as the SDGr girl hands, except that the SDGr girl body is set up so that the wrist ball doesn't have to be removed to change the hands, while the SD16 hands have the little string system, like the SD17 boys. You might have to change the tension on your arm elastic but it would probably work okay? I've never tried! ;) Also your Saki is so cute! I love her dress!

I think my SD16 girl poses much better than my nYID or my SID boy. She's a little hard to get balanced standing up on her heel legs, but she can move her arms a little more fluidly, and she can sit and slouch more easily. I do think the SDGr girl body is more posable than SD16, though! If posability is your goal, the "feminine" shoulders have a newer elbow joint. I do think my SD16 girl looks cute and realistic next to SID and EID boys, a little shorter than an SID boy.

    9. No, I'm actually pretty sure that SDGr hands and SD16 ones are not the same sculpt. SDGrG has more narrow fingers than SD16G.

    10. ksusha is correct -- the basic hands are different. Graffiti girl hands have completely separated fingers on both hands, and are very slender in comparison to the SD16 girl hands.

On a different topic -- for those who've ordered the online FCS system in August and September, do your orders show on your accounts? My August one did until Volks USA had that glitch that sent everyone new invoices with different totals. My September order never sent out a confirming e-mail, and it's never shown up on My Account. I did e-mail Volks USA to confirm the order, which they say they have. When I try the search on My Account, putting in the order number (which I thankfully have since I printed out my orders at the time I made them) gives me a message in a pink box that says, "Error You are not allowed to view the details of this order." The new system sure has some bugs! *_*

    11. beamlette , my September FCS orders (I made 2 separate ones) do not show up on my account. I haven't tried putting in my order numbers yet. Yes, their new system really has some bugs to work out.

    12. beamlette - I noticed there is a 'trick' to making your FCS orders show up. :) You first must go to: http://volksusastore.com/onlinefcs
And then click the "My Account" button at the top right and select "Orders". It seems like Volks database has some sort of different cart and secondary account than the normal site account...

When I go to the normal Volksusastore.com/dollfie I get my account that only shows the orders I have placed from the standard shop, such as my Volk SD Coco, doll stands, care items, etc.
While my FCS orders only show up when I use the my account on the volksusastore.com/onlinefcs one. Which can suck, because it means when the pre-order period is closed you can't access those files. >_< So be sure to access them and print them out or save the PDF copies if you want them between now and next January!

    13. Snowgray I find your info on SD16 girls and nYID/SID useful. Do you know if i can put a SD16 girl's head on a SID or nYID body? Which is more suitable, the YID or SID? Does the normal skin resin color match? Thanks.

    14. Volks resin doesn't match any Iplehouse resin colors.... Iples' NS is very pale and chalky, and Volks is more ivory-toned and luminous.
But then, I've never hybridized one; maybe someone else could tell you if it'd even be possible to do blush-to-match.

    15. Thanks JennyNemesis, Pale and Chalky is very different from ivory-toned. I can see the difference. It will take a lot of blushing which might not work. Looks like it's no can do. Sigh.

    16. You guys are awesome at answering questions. I just wanted to let you guys know that. :) Speaking of which, I know that the Fairyland dolls do well standing in heels with their flat feet. Do the Volks girls need the high heel feet to balance well? Of course, I'm not talking really high heels either, but with normal pumps and stuff like that.

My dolly list is growing out of control and there are at least four girls competing to be the first when my savings are all up and going. Geesh. I'm sure that when they actually get here the house will be a riot in either girl love or cat fights. Lol!

    17. MegWesley- My SD13 girl got heeled shoes in her welcoming outfit. She got both the flat feet and the heeled feet. The only difference it made was that those particular shoes were made to be worn with flat feet, so she kept falling over in the heel feet. But I have different heeled shoes with the slight arch for the heel foot and they work a lot better, and the regular feet deformed the shoe when I tried them. I hope that answered that question. Of course, SD16 are a whole different story. They can only wear heel shoes with heel feet.

    18. Rikka_Mika, thanks so much for the tip! :thumbup And thank you ruskyles, for letting me know I'm not alone in this :)

At least I know it's in their system, though I'll probably still e-mail them after I make this month's order, just to double-check. I just found it odd that my September order never even generated the automatic e-mail right after ordering, that my August order did. I even wondered if it was my computer and its systems at fault. Gotta love technology *snerk*.

    19. Thank you for the information about posing. It was very helpful.

Anyway, I am having trouble on the order page. I have tried several times to order two pair of legs for my SD16. It does not matter if I select the flat feet or heel feet. When I try to order another pair, it says I cannot order another like I just did. Well I am not. I cannot get the second button to darken which will then allow me to select the other pair that I want.

I wrote an email the Volks USA but am wondering if anyone else had this trouble. And, if so, what did you do?

      Thank you again!

    20. I haven't found any standing shots (I'm sure we have some somewhere) but here is a picture of my Ryoya with CathyM's Ami on the SD16 girl body (regular shoulders)

The SD16 girl is really tall but still just a bit shorter than the SDGr boy, even when wearing heels

    21. I found a pic in my archives of some of my SD16 girls (Iris, F36) and SD17 boys (Isao mash-up, Hijikata) standing with a couple of my Graffiti boys, Minoru and Date --

The girls are on their high-heel legs, but overall they do look more robust next to the Graffiti boys... :)

    22. I've found that when i click the text next to the little bubble, that works.... Instead of trying to click the bubble

    23. I just tried too, because I was curious. I also couldn't get the legs to select. I wonder if its my browser. So weird, it worked a few days ago.

    24. It looks like I won't be able to go to Dolpa this December after all - it conflicted too much with my move to Canada, so I'm going to Tokyo next month instead. But at least I'll have the Volks store to visit! And maybe I'll keep up my tradition of adopting a doll from Mandarake - last year I got my Unoa B-El, and before that I got Prince Derpington here.

After struggling with his gapping hazel eyes, I put these in, and his normal wig is hiding in a box somewhere so I grabbed this one... but I actually rather like this look for him!

    25. Beamlette That's a nice photo. You have Iris! :daisy

Solitary Agent Too bad you will miss the dolpa in Dec. It's all about timing. I am trying not to miss the March dolpa in Kyoto. I have never visited Japan during cherry blossom season and hopefully this time, I will make it. Schedules don't always work out that will coincide with a dolpa. I am Canadian, working in the US, so, all the best with the move and welcome to Canada! :cake:........I noticed your boy has freckles, I like the way his lips are painted. :) I would love to see freckles on a girl's face with more blushing (sun burn look) beneath the eye.

    26. solitary agent, I love your little Prince Derp! *hugs Henry* What lovely color eyes, and his outfit is beautiful.

    27. Henry says thanks for the love! <3 Distractus did a great job on his faceup. I have a huge weakness for freckles, probably 1/3 of my dolls have them.

I haven't seen the cherry blossoms in Japan yet either! I went in March once, but must have just missed it. I'm staying in the Akihabara area this time, which is exciting.

    28. snowgray, ksusha, beamlette - Thank you for the information on SD16 girl hands :D!!! Well, that actually makes me kind of glad. I think I prefer the SD16 girl hands over the SDGr girl hands (I was really surprised how long and thin they are...) so I'm glad there's a couple open hand options available through FCS.

I really hope there are enough Ebony FCS orders to convince Volks that it's a worthwhile color option to offer regularly (and maybe even expand its availability to more than just SD16 girls...). >_< I'd love one a some point.

For those coming to Japan I'm sure you'll get lots of awesome dolly stuff... the yen is at its lowest point in years (though tax did increase...)! Good time to shop. Bad time to buy gasoline XD.

    29. Here is a (slightly off topic but.. ) website that shows previous peak blossoms by region http://www.jnto.go.jp/sakura/eng/index.php

    30. *grins* Well, I think the art bodies are elegant and stylish, so there's that . . . but, yes, it's wonderful to have dolls of all shapes and sizes, so that we can enjoy the fashion of the ages without necessarily being able to squeeze into a Tudor gown or a flapper dress ourselves! ;)

And your Saki is *gorgeous* -- I am really excited about bringing one home at some point! :D

Thank you so much, Linda!! :aheartbea

Yes, it is -- I often repaint my dolls with default face-ups, but I just love hers too much to touch it! They really did a good job on Lovely Dress Tae ^__^

(Still hoping to someday get my hands on a default SwDr Tae -- I love the way she's painted! I have a blank modified one from Y!J, but I'm still trying to figure out whether I want to keep her eye mods or try to sculpt them back to near-closed -- she has half-open eyes right now.)
