[Adopted] Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XIII

Same for me. Those shoulders were never the problem but those darn narrow hips.

 

Well, SD16 is also missing a few ribs, so I could never take it seriously as any sort of realism. ^^ Is very Barbie. But, some of us do have shoulders broader than our hips, even when we have big hips.

I bought it from the swap-meet table right next to the Garnet head, and if Teleri says that was your table, then I just put 2+2 together as to where I got this thing. Oh, wow, Garnet as a boy is handsome indeed. If there is the option to put SD16 girl heads on the SDGr boy body, I might be in trouble.

This is why I always thought Garnet/Ruby was so unpopular. You take a group of people who're into BJD, majority of which for that "BJD aethetic" you don't see in other dolls, and give them something like Garnet/Ruby who was very obviously inspired by fashion-dolls and you're probably not going to see a lot of them floating around. (I think I remember someone once comparing them to grown-up Bratz dolls)

I've looong stopped caring but at the time I was a little offended and a lot disappointed that they Americanized their US exclusives. If that was the style I was after I wouldn't have gotten into Volks to begin with, y'know?

 

Wasn't it actually the fashion Doll magazine FDQ or Haute Doll that offered the first SD16 Olivia? I do believe she was indeed styled to appeal to American fashion doll collectors and that is why the SD16 dolls were so different. I'm not well versed in the SD16 dolls, but some like Kira look more Volks to me than others.

Yes indeed, that was my Garnet at Dollism! Hilariously, the pretty faceup on the Garnet in the newest Volks e-mail was what made me take her down from sale. I decided I'll just get her a faceup and save her for my forger (à la Inception) character. But the poor girl hadn't gotten a lot of love before that! I suspect I only won her from the LA closing lottery because no one bought her at the final sale and no one else tried for her... and I had wanted to make her a boy, too!

I do still have her, as well as an SD17 body, so I can try to snap pictures of a boy Garnet this weekend, if anyone is interested?

JennyNemesis, I think you went through my bag of free Yo stuff, IIRC? But the stripey cardigan was not mine! There was a very nice person dressed as a robot who was next to our table and we babysat each other's things, so it must have come from there! I'm sorry I didn't have the chance to introduce myself! I recognized your mohawked Tenshi boy the very first day but I was so frazzled trying to figure out where everything was that I failed to say hello!

And continuing the squee over FCS, I'll happily add to the hope that the SDGr girl body goes in, too! I'm super surprised that SD16 has made it before SDGr. IMHO, SD16 is very thin but not literally impossible. I have super linebacker shoulders and thin hips, though not quite that thin! I think I like the newer, slimmer SD16 shoulders because my own are so big? And I do wish that the SD16 legs would get updated at least as much as the SDGr girl legs are, for mobility, though Ryo Narasaki doesn't have that, so they'd have to be adding it new for FCS. I'd also love to see both SDGr and SD16 girls get a double-joint for their heel legs...

Anyway, here is Vala, WS F-48 on the small-bust SDGr Una body to show off all the possibilities we could have if only Volks would let us!

 

She is very pretty, the colors of her face are so well chosen. I really hope you guys get your wish for the SDGrG body, I'm kind of curious as to why they have been holding out so long, but Volks holds out on a lot of things, so not surprised at all. It keeps them in demand!

My friend has always admired my collection, and in particular likes my Volks dolls, and was just telling me that she sort of wanted to get a couple, but she wants her first major (and apparently she means really major) doll (I have given her a couple as gifts, just Tiny size) to be Alice...>,<;;; of course...I was trying to be kind while thinking: "I want Lady GaGa to call me up and ask me to go on tour with her to discuss her career...but it ain't gonna happen..." Oh well, maybe she will cough up the dough when Alice is rereleased at some point? I just looked around and saw one for 3k...that's a stretch for a first time collector I'd say...

I have always wanted a Yugiri or an Alice on a WS SDGrB myself, but I've always more considered that a pipe dream even with all the money I do spend on dolls, anyone else have a particular doll they have always wanted on a different body?

 

Olivia was the first NY Dolpa LE doll, which was run by FDQ and thus Olivia was created to have a more fashion doll appeal in terms of her body and her styling to appeal to FDQ subscribers. Her sculpt, however, is straight up classic Volks. The same can be said for Amelia and Pearl. I think the only two that were a departure are Garnet and Ruby, and they weren't released until much later than Olivia.

All of the doll body swaps I've ever wanted I've done - Olivia boy, Amelia boy, Kira boy, Maki Tsuyoshi girl. Unless we're talking absolutely can't do it because it doesn't exist pipe dreams, in which case mine would be a white skin Michele boy on the SD13 girl Seirei body.

I was watching your Garnet head FS, and saw her at the Dollism swap meet; I sold my Garnet a few years back, but have pined for her from time to time. Since you decided to keep her, I'd love to see what you do with her.

Same here, the Americanized sculpts aren't really my thing. Though I can see why they tried it, it makes sense. And there are people who appreciate them--I guess I'm just not one of them.

 

Kim is observant. Thanks for this summary. I am very bad with sculpts and I don't have any resin girls, I only have a few Volks boys. I looked hard at Olivia and thought she's a classic Volks sculpt, different from Pearl, Garnet and Ruby although she's SD16 and supposedly a fashion doll because of her FDQ connection. I just did not know how to explain this. In fact, her sculpt is in line with other members of the Tokyo Boy's story arc. She blends in.

I will not be in this hobby if I'm looking for a American style fashion doll because I can get a Toner or Barbie. Amongst the Jewels, I find Ruby most interesting. Imagine her painted like a 1960s vintage Sasha doll of England.

 

Thanks for finding a pic in your files, galatia9 -- though that's not an SD17 body. It's one of my Lati Red Line boy bodies! I need to go look again in my pic files...

 

That's OK, half of the flaking was my fault too! I had my hands full and didn't think to hold up my nametag and introduce myself. Swamped by all those free Ken clothes, you know. (And blood-sugar plummeting by that point in the day.) Nava still hasn't tried the Ken camo pants on his fat Yo-SD ass, but I think at least one or two of the tops should fit him. Anyway, thanks for the free pants & the info-- I will just reiterate an open call to whomever sold me that adorable stripey cardigan.

Zowie, your SD17 Garnet boy is a dashing devil! Boy, her features really are big... the SD17 neck & shoulders are just barely enough to balance them out. Looks pretty great.

And as we all know, Olivia was REALLY meant to be Oliver... c'mon, Volks, what you frontin'....

Olivia is just Sakaki with a smaller nose and a rounder chin. She's also Yukinojo without cheekbones. She really is a sculpt in the classic Volks-Mikey tradition, regardless of the Barbieish body.

 

Garnet looks very much like a fashion doll and a little Angelina Jolie-esque XD (I think SD16 girl body looks very fashion doll like too) She really looks nice in person but in photos she is not so photogenic. I remember seeing her in person at dolpa in 2007 and thinking wow she looks so much better in person I almost bought her that day.

I never thought Olivia looks like Sakaki but now that you mentioned it, she does! That is if Sakaki lost a lot of weight or something LOL

 

Sometimes when Kentaro wears a short flippy wig, he looks even girlier than he does in long hair, and it always strikes me that he looks like a tomboy Olivia. ^^

His nose is longer, and yes, his legs are chubbier than SD16 Olivia's.

 

Ah......JennyNemesis You just proved that I'm not going crazy when I thought Olivia looked like Isao from some angles. I know Sakaki is not Isao but I think they're close. I was too embarrassed to name which Tokyo boy she resembles. I know Olivia look like Yukinojo but Isao?? I was pretty sure I was imagining things, I stopped looking at Olivia after that.

 

He's so darling. I'm putting Sakaki back on my wish list. LOL!

[MENTION=26060]stargazer_i[/MENTION], I never thought of Isao either! - "From some angles" must be what does it, because Olivia & Isao & Sakaki & Yukinojo are all Mikey sculpts, so even when they don't look anything alike, they still seem to look related. ^^ Her nose isn't as pointy as the boys', but she still looks like a sister to them.

Sakaki could be a 12-year old Olivia, before adolescence fully kicked in -- ah that awkward stage! I also think Ushiwakamaru would make a good pre-adolescent Ami Ayase. Baby-fat adorable... pics of which she wouldn't want anyone to see now.

I'm seriously starting to miss my old Olivia boy. These are dangerous feelings. An Olivia would make such a great sibling to a Sakaki, I'd love to see them all paired together.

Wow, I'm totally floored by the fact I never realized how sibling-y Sasaki and Olivia were before! I love that Volks has so many sculpts that can have a bit of family resemblance between them. Unfortunately, it makes me want them all.

Sorry to pop in and ruin the string of handsome Sasakis, but I couldn't resist sharing a picture of Cherish (SD Coco) in her new La Petite Madeleine dress set that arrived today!



The frills and her cute face kills me.

*squee* She is so pretty!! La Petite Madeleine makes such gorgeous clothes, too. (Hehe -- looks like her bow is made from the same time of faux-Astrakhan-lamb fur that I used to make Suzume's 1920s boa!)

I do think that Olivia and Yukinojo look like siblings (if you want to see some wigless Olivia from different angles, check my .sig), and I hadn't thought of Sakaki as a third sib, but you guys are totally right!

I really, really would love a Saki as a sister to my Anthea (Ushiwakamaru girl) . . . and, if I'm dreaming big, a Megohime to be a mini-Anthea!

Now I KNOW that somewhere I have a blurry meetup-snapshot of Yukinojo, Sakaki, and modded-Olivia (aznbutterfly sharpened her nose a bit) all sitting together... I will have to do some digging & post it if I can find it. But yeah, all 3 of those pointy noses, and all 6 of those big eyes, all in a row, very imposing.

Tetsuyaaaa He is just divine in that ponytail! And I think the orangey-blonde color is just perfect with his faceup tones. That wig is a winner.

Those SD13 Mikey boys do have the cutest look of lingering-baby-fat about them! A little chubcake Olivia, pre-boobs....

ETA: Found it! Moroni's Yukinojo has glasses on & Aznbutterfly's Olivia is modded, so the resemblances are a little muffled, but there they are!

Jason is back on his original SD17 body. I had Robin (Pluto Ezekiel) on it for a while for some reason, but the resin match is really better this way for both of them.

solitary agent, both of your guys look sharp, but WOW! That double breasted glen plaid suit is amazing. Body swapping is an adventure, isn't it? it's interesting how a change of body can change the entire feel of a head sculpt. I'm getting ready to do a new round of swapping when my Eden gets here. I may have to go buy another Volks body...

Anyone else keep checking the Volks site for updates on the FCS for this month?

 

It's ready 10.15am here in the UK and I've been checking it almost every hour since midnight

 

How do you get in when FCS is open? It's always taken me to the International site when I've tried before...

Hi Alicex and callum91. I'm not an expert, but the site is probably taking you to the international one because VolksUSA online FCS is only for North America and Mexico (I think). For some reason that makes no sense to me, if you live outside of those areas Volks will not allow you to even view the site. Sorry It really sucks and I hope Volks changes this policy.

And loving all the doll pictures!!! Each time someone shares a picture it makes my want list explode!! I had a Sakaki when he was first released and loved him but sold all my large dolls years ago. Seeing all the pictures makes me ask myself why did I do that!

justkatie179 I checked the site the minute I got up this morning. Looks like we can't see anything until 11am Pacific time I'm central time zone so that's a long wait.

 

I will say, the past months of FCS, Volks hasn't opened it until later in the day, I assume because of malfunctions or last minute prep, I wouldn't like expect midnight or anything, and yes for those not in the US, you will not be able to see that part of the site at all. Someone has posted screen caps before, so it is possible if you'd like, I'm sure someone can do so again.

 

I'm eagerly waiting for screencaps too... . Or at least people spazzing out in text form on the forum for me to get an idea of what's available.

Ashbet - Oh my goodness she is LOVELY. Wow, I must admit I'm not a super huge fan of that fashion era/style, but your girl really rocks it. She's so elegant but somehow... looks so ready to party at the same time .

Rikka_Mika - CHERISH SHO CUTE. That wig color is lovely. Is it Volks? Please post her more often haha .

RE: Olivia relations conversation................. I have never given a second thought to Sakaki until all those lovely photos came up. ..... but now that I can see the resemblance to Olivia.... uh, wow. Dangerous! Better not finish these thoughts haha.

 

I'm a little confused. When I went to VolksUSA this morning I see the September clothing collection that I don't remember being on their site yesterday. Can anyone confirm these outfits are new and that I'm not crazy. What is throwing me off is the labeling of "September Collection". It's October. Please tell me I didn't miss out on these outfits.

Now I assume that if the outfits are new they will go up for sale when the FCS does.

 

If you look at the top of the Outfits section, it says '10/18 @ 11:00AM PST' which is when they go on sale. It's the 'September Collection' because the clothes were released on the Volks Japan site in September and then we get them about a month later. There is an October Collection that will be going up for sale on the Japanese site soon.

 

Ashbet, galatia9, Turynn - Thank you so much! I really should post her more often, I think I've only posted her twice in the time I've had her, haha. Turynn - Her wig is actually a Kaleidoll one in the Lollipop shade. The color and fiber-type is quite similar to Volks wigs, which is great!

So excited to see what will be posted when the new FCS comes up! I'll take some screencaps and put them in a link here in the thread later for all of you international Volks fans.

 

Well, it's official. I'm crazy!!! Or blind I saw the October 18th at the top of the HTD Osaka 8 outfits but not the September collection. I've gotta stop posting in this thread and showing off my idiot.

 

Well, it WAS in light gray and white print! I would have missed it too if mosaicwolf and eleniel hadn't mentioned it.

So even though the rest of VolksUSA Store can be seen outside of usa, they block the FCS? They don't even shop clothing or other items outside of USA, so what's the point in blocking international people from even viewing?

 

Do any of you lovely international people know how to use an anonymized browser? If you use Chrome, you can go under "File/New Incognito Window," and it will open a browser that, at least theoretically, shouldn't be sending region-related cookies to the Volks site.

I don't know whether it's programmed as "Needs US cookie to view" or "Just needs NOT to have non-US cookie to view" (if it's the former, an incognito window wouldn't work. If it's the latter, it should.)

JennyNemesis.........Those are dangerous photos on my wallet! I'm trying to pair off my Yukinojo with a girl, he suffers from identity crisis and has been requesting for Olivia. Olivia and him look alike. He's very depressed these days. I have no funds! He should live happily ever after with Isao and stop all this drama.

The FCS isn't up yet, and someone always posts screencaps so I'd just wait. (I know I will at least, for a split thread).

I'm assuming it goes up 11am LA time (it's actually a little bit obnoxious that they don't just put it up at midnight, but that's just me)

Basic price for SD16 is $726.

Makeup/eyes are $110.

Additional hands are $59.

Here's a bummer, the basic only comes with one set of legs. The smart choice is to select the flat feet as your default and then add the heel legs for $88, as an option the flat feet are $187.

Heads available are Garnet, Ruby, Pearl, F-23 and F-34.

Skin tones are White, Normal, Sunlight and Ebony.

 

Awww! ROFL! I don't know, once they make a decision, it can be hard to get them to change their minds!! He's so handsome.

Whew, I'm safe until January ... but also kinda a little sad they aren't offering Pearl as a boy. I think that they still offer 2 choices for faceups, natural & vivid, is really cool. I was wondering if there would be options since it's just boy or just girl bodies in those categories.
