[Adopted] Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - X

So if anyone was planning to go to Volks on the 29th/30th and can't change their plans, write to VolksUSA now! I have been told that the manager is asking HQ if they can do anything for me since my plans are unalterable. They may be more willing to accommodate if there are others too!

 

I was planning on going on the 29th, but lucky for me my plans are flexible. I will write to Volks though, I hope it will change their mind.

 

I'm not sure whether to be excited (tea party! Mikey and Doll Doctor!) or annoyed (booked my tickets for February already, though they are points tickets with Southwest and I won't get penalized to change). I'm half tempted to cash in some of my other airline points to go for the weekend in March as my 'house is done!' (or will hopefully be done by then) present to myself. Hubby doesn't get why I would do both, but I think trying to do FCS on the final Saturday would be futile. I'd rather have the time to do it leisurely a few weeks before.

I'm not sure what to do, really. We wrote to them and asked if the dates are finally fixed, because we would like to buy tickets and don't want to lose money later. And they said that at this time there are no schedule dates changes plans, but if they decide to change it again they will update the website right after the decision would be made. That's... oh well..... Probably better to go to the March Dolpa in Japan because that dates are fixed Factor in a couple date changes and the airfare to Japan would probably be the same.

Lilith got a new wig today. It was time for a change. Also her white one really needs to be washed and brushed out again.

Thought I'd pop in and introduce my grail doll Pixie (Volks Victorique) she arrived a few days ago and I took her along to see Pinktezka, how cute does she look next to her doll panda (Volks Souseiseki)

Good news for me from VolksUSA! They are letting me come in to place my FCS order while we're down there even though they will be in the midst of packing and moving.
Still sad that I won't get to see everyone for the closing event like I'd expected, but it was nice of them to do this.

 

Aahh, I'm so happy for you, St. James! It's really heartening that they're making an allowance for that.

@ St. James... how excited are you now!? HUGE breath of relief all the plans where for not. Just as long as ya get yer FCS!! Maybe you should get 2 or 3 as an extra reward for the added stress!!!

In other good news...
I got in Fig's wig!!!
It's a Luts Mohair wig. This is my first mohair and it is so crazy and unkempt...I look looooove it. The seller, I'm sure that I was a bit crazy as I kept asking if she listed the color right...it looked blonde to me but she kept saying purple. I mean it's not like she owned it or anything! lol
I'll say lavender to be exact...it is soooo lovely with his eyes.
I took a pic but...not gonna share my gross pic...it makes him look horrible (the pic that is).

 

All of the recent confusing info about VolksUSA is just so disheartening. I'm really hoping something positive comes along soon, it really does feel like Mother SD is punishing us for doing nothing wrong. I am really hoping one of the things they revamp is their shipping options. I just had to pay $17 to ship one wig from the recent VolksNews wig offering. One wig! WTH Volks?! I could have probably ordered four outfits shipping international for that price. I'd order their small items more often if the shipping wasn't so horribly high.


Allycat81 - Your two girls are so sweet together. I really like the blue sweater, the white collar and cuffs are so nice.

St. James - I am really relieved and happy for you!! You have to post lots of photos to the gallery as soon as your doll makes it home. I hope you have been able to decide between the two tempting sculpts.

michaelmichael - I know what you mean about styling fur wigs! Some of them are really tricky and my boys sometimes look like they have stuck their finger in an electrical socket before I can tame the poof. XD

 

So glad you'll be able to place your order, St. James! It's nice they were able to accommodate your travel plans since they decided to change the dates after already picking dates. x.x

I haven't participated in this thread for a long while now, so much has happened here! I'll spare y'all from similar comments of sadness about Volks changing and just say I'm hopeful of positive changes that may be coming their way.

Here's a little pic of Uli Belle. A close family member of mine passed away recently, and I've found that just sitting with Belle has brought some comfort my way. It's amazing how simple things can become so great.

I agree that shipping needs to be fixed. I went to order just a pair of socks and the shipping was over $12! So a pair of $11 socks was going to cost me almost $30 when I added in CA tax and that $12 shipping!
James I am so glad your trip is not ruined. I never managed to get to Volks because I only visit down south during Xmas time. They are usually closed over the holiday. I hate complaining and making excuses but I just never made it there.
On a happier note, I am very excited about the new site and I am hoping for some interesting changes. And continuing to pray for an online FCS. Or even a order period for certain dolls.

I thought I would play with Odessa today, my awesome FCS girl. I am so glad I got her when I did, she is battling out with my Rinon for the title of "Favorite Doll Supreme".
The sumika closing has actually SUPER bummed me out. I said it before, but I just feel so abandoned. I feel like saying well, forget it! I'll just buy other dolls!

I wasn't sure if my question had been answered but i searched for it and couldn't find it. I am contemplating on getting a Volks Megu head 2nd hand and had a few questions. So here we go.....
1). What is her neck circumference?
2). Would she fit on an impledoll 56cm body? That body's neck circumference is 8.5 cm
3). If not impledoll what bodies would fit best?

I owned a Volks Megu a long time ago. I think Megu's neck opening is 9.5cm ... Volks SD10/13 bodies fit her perfectly but since you want to hybridize her, I'm not sure which other bodies you can use. Would be helpful to keep in mind that her head is quite big, 9-10 size, so bodies that are medium or thin built may not suit her.

 

Yeah, I just treat VolksUSA the same as VolksJP anymore-- save up the wishlist until I need lots & lots of things, to make it worth the shipping & tax. Sometimes I have the USA stuff shipped to my friend in Arizona, just to escape the hideous CA sales tax, & then pay only a little bit of shipping for her to send it to me. ^^ It's just not worth shopping there anymore, unless there's a Dolpa doll to be had.

They are moving into another state I bet.
If they stay in the same state it'd be kinda shady to terminate all these people for decisions that they didn't have the authority to make.
I REALLY pray for NYC. I think, if they go brick & motor again, they would see WAY more foot traffic.
I also think the US would make a great test market for online FCS. I hate to say it but, I think we as Americans are more...about the actual doll than the process...That and online, I would think, would make it easier for the customer and increase their overall sale as SO many more people could make an order in the comfort of their own homes.
I also think, we'll see Volks branch out into a more diverse look for it dolls.
By all this thinking...I mean that's what I want! lol

 

Just to stop rumours before they start, Volks didn't terminate Bailey, she chose to (successfully) seek other employment. She will certainly be missed, but I'd rather she was happy!
Volks isn't leaving California and I suspect we'll see some form of online full choice simply because they've promised additional services to North American customers and they need some way to offset the loss of revenue from closing the physical shop. If an expanded web presence is their goal, I can't think of anything else it would be. Volks has certainly blindsided us more than once in both good and bad ways, so I'm hoping for some good to compensate for the current emotional roller coaster they've had me riding!

Aicho-Chan: so sorry for your loss...and your Belle is lovely as usual!!

I thought I was going to try for a FCS before Volks USA closed, but I've been able to find my F-35 on the MP ( still trying to figure out her faceup-trade or keep it). So I think I won't be needing the FCS right now. Hope we have on-line options later for sure!! Still it would be nice to see Mikey again. I was at the Volks opening and would have loved to be able to be there again!!

 

Yeah bailey said it was time to move on to something different. I see her at the store all the time, I live like 30 minutes away from it. I'm sad to see the store go, that was one of my happy places. I hope to see fcs come back in some form, I wanted to do a f=38 but I wont have the funds in time.

 

Didn't they say FCS will placed online when they revamp the whole online store? I just need a clear answer on this since I been watching the things about this. Pitty they closed the store I wanted to visit it one day but now they need someone else to step up and take the lead with another store.

 

Ok I was at volks last weekend and I asked about the FCS. They are working on a few ideas for it but there are NO set plans for it at the moment. I really don't think they will have it online, but you never know.

 

I know about Bailey leaving. She was one of my favorite Volks staff along with Jane (who I think is also not there anymore?) I think it is possible to do FCS on-line if no face-up option is available. That way you do not really need to personally talk to anybody to place the order.

 

If Volks is moving, maybe just maybe come to the east coast like NYC, I could fly up there for a weekend and visit my in-laws and make a order if they did. However I don't think they would make a drastic move like this.

I think all this speculation about what volks is going to do is going to drive everyone nuts. We don't know what they will do, I think the best thing is to wait to see what they say. Hopefully it will be soon.

 

Even if Volks USA was going to move, a part of me doubts it would be to get more foot traffic, I doubt their interested in that to be honest at least here in NA anyway. If you've ever been to the current store you'll understand exactly why I say this.

Anyway it's sad to hear that's it's closing. I always said I'd go visit it more but I only ever went to the store twice since I started collecting, and I don't live that far from it. Perhaps I'll be able to make it the weekend of the tea party.

There was a Volks News leak earlier on another site, but it seems to have been taken down. Are leaks generally frowned upon here on DoA? If not, I can post some info here.

 

Post it!!! It's not frowned upon, we have scans from things and previously posted info here all the time, as long as it is true and was posted at some point you are safe!

 

Alrighty, the three SDs for the upcoming Dolpa are Kondou Isami, Saitou Hajime, and Sleeping Okita. Seems to be very Shinsengumi themed!

Sleeping Okita looks so beautiful, this almost makes me wish that Volks would work out some rights to Rurouni Kenshin dolls, and throw a Battousai in there with them >,< though I know they are simply going for traditional Japanese aesthetic more than anything, but their AhMyGoddess! Release has me getting nostalgic.

 

No problem! The photos and info have been passed around a lot on blogs and message boards, but the original source has been taken down I guess. And yes, it's for the Kyoto Dolpa in March. More (legitimately acquired) news scans should come around the 10th of this month from what I've read.

Oh man, I've been waiting for a Saitou Hajime doll from them since they started on the Shinsengumi. I'm not sure I am feeling the sculpt, though those eyebrows are really distracting. I always imagine him with a lot more....character. The uniform looks nice though.

 

I feel as if Volks has been using a lot of broadness in the outer edges of their sculpts lately, while using thinner features for the face, well either that or the exact opposite with like the Prince and Beast. I'm not sure I like the aesthetic that goes a long with that, but I'm sure the style of these boys will certainly sell them for many. Maybe more prominent cheeks would cut down on the imbalance, but again, just a random suggestion, and I am still excited to see what else they have in store for us!

 

Oh Hajime!! Volks has an uncanny knack of knowing when my eye starts wandering to other companies and yanks me back to them. SwD Okita is looking so sweet too.

 

Artemos, I agree, especially about the thinner features. Hijikata's high, thin nose is why I didn't want to go for him (even though I loved his outfit and wig, omg) and while Saitou is looking interesting to me, I am hoping to see some pictures that don't have distorted angles due to curved pages to get a better idea of just what his nose looks like. But I tend to like more "classic" Volks sculpts anyways, and really love dolls like F16, Lucas/Chris, and Williams. XD
