Maybe there is another thread for this (can someone point me in the right direction if there is?) but I just saw the news... Volks is discontinuing their standard models? I mean, they say not to be sad about it but they are reporting it like it is bad news. I wonder what the heck is going on.

I always wanted an SD Megu- I guess now might be the time. Maybe a Rinon? Gah. I want to save my money for LEs. *facepalm*

    2. Nakitaninja: I went to VolksUSA yesterday, and it was confirmed that the standard dolls will be discontinued and will only be available until current stock runs out. Pretty sad, but I guess I should buy that Mimi that I always wanted.

    3. OMG!! Are you serious!? This is horrible, guess I better get that SD13 Yori I want before they are gone forever..........so not fair:(

    4. Thank you for confirming, Daniel! I am conflicted because I don't want to purchase a doll only to find out that they are then going to put out SDGr standard body or come out with a face-up I like even more. Usually you'd think we'd see them introduce different standards but they are really 'cloak and dagger' about their intentions this time.

"They may come back or they may not...." :doh

      Sigh.

    5. I can hear the masses crying now if they only will do a Standard as a Limited Edition/Lottery only or do FCS only for them........then again you never know what else Volks may come up with.

    6. Totally Derlian! I have my fingers crossed that they have something fantastic in the works. You never know, right? They are still keeping the Dollfie Dream Standards so I don't think this is the end of all standard SDs. I should embrace change instead of freaking out about it. :)

    7. I am choosing to look at this as an adventure and something positive, even though I will miss the standards. I'm sure they'll be around somehow; they have a lot of history.

Maybe there will be new standards and classic standards? Or a new body design and a face-lift or something? The possibilities are limitless. :)

    8. I will put Yori on my list as the doll to get for November......now to weed out some of my other dolls in order to make room and get her........

    9. The sculpts will still be available through FCS though, right? I don't need to freak out and put my F-42/Elena FCS order in now?

I am kind of excited to see what the change is going to be. There's got to be a good reason for why they're doing this after so long!

rainwaltz - your girl looks lovely and peaceful in the flowers! I know what you mean by missing the cherry blossoms - I miss them every year due to work and/or school.

    10. Yeah I think the FCS molds will stay if you still want to get the Standards that way, I did not see anything about FCS Standard molds on their blog post being discontinued.

    11. My guess is that discontinuing the standards is simply because they've been taken for granted and the stock sits for too long. I do hope that they revamp the FCS system as a way to recoup some revenue though. They need to do something to stay competitive!

    12. It would be so great if they could bring some sort of limited FCS to the internet! I know it would pretty much go completely against what they do but still, I can dream.

As for not seeing a lot of some FCS sculpts, obviously it's because they're so hard to get for most people. I would just love to see more pictures of F-40 and F-49 but I have such a hard time finding them :( Is there any way to search for Japanese owners of them who keep blogs? I've tried but I can't...

    13. That was my initial reaction too - these Standard molds are being discontinued, but will more likely than not be replaced with new versions. I'm very surprised that the majority of other people are not reading the news to mean that! It makes me worried now, reading the discussion....I almost got the Elena sculpt instead of F-05....and I've always really liked Kun too. and Rinon.

    14. Oh, I wasn't trying to worry people with alarm but the original post by Volks sounded pretty dark when I read it. It doesn't mention FCS or any other things that will be changing but it did make it sound like they were doing away with all the standard SDs... maybe? There has since been a less dark post made in the news section for the LA Sumika but this was the original one that I found worrisome:

Hello, everyone.Today I unfortunately have some sad news. All of our Standard Super Dollfies are being completely discontinued at the end of the year. Yes. You heard correctly. Every single one. If you have ever wanted to bring one of them home, now is the time!We aren’t sure of the future of the SD Standard Model lineup yet, but as soon as we know anything we will post here. Will they introduce new versions of our old favorites, completely revamp the line, or leave them discontinued and do something totally new? Who knows?!We here at VOLKS USA are hoping that instead of being sad, that this will be something exciting for our SD customers. In the meantime, why don’t you take this opportunity to bring home one of the SDs you might have been considering? After the end of the year we will no longer restock them and once they are sold out they will be gone!~Bailey

    15. That's what I read too and it seemed pretty straight forward to me, but they may still do it since so many other companies are out there that are making dolls too.

    16. I always thought the same thing, and even acted accordingly. My first Volks was Rinon, but every other doll was a LE because they were, lets face it, LE. Even my FCS girl that I love so much I kept putting off because "she will always be there". I wonder if they will just make the standards make-to-order, that might solve the stock sitting around problem. A lot of the standards aren't that popular, either. Poor Yori and Mimi don't ever seem to move. But then I had to wait months to get Rinon because she was sold out everywhere.

    17. I hope that the decision to discontinue the standard models may mean something I've been hoping for for years: Online FCS
I'm honestly not expecting that because of the view Volks has always taken on how special creating a FCS doll in person is, but I'm quite interested in what they have planned in the wake of this decision. All new standard models? Would they really do away with standard SDs? I can't imagine they'd only offer LE lotteries and FCS as away to purchase from then on. The standards were always touted as being great for beginning SD owners because they come with everything (eyes, faceup, wig) but also great for those who like to customize (not feeling bad for wiping a limited faceup, lower price than a LE). It's hard to imagine they's drastically change that philosophy and do away with standards, but who knows! Maybe the DD pre-orders they've been doing lately have been successful and they will do something similar to that for SD more often? I'm anxious to find out what they have planned!

    18. I had no idea the standard dolls weren't preorders! Sure, I'd seem some at Volks authorized retailers before, but I honestly thought that if I ordered online, it would work like all other companies - it would be made when I ordered, not pulled from a store room. Strange, I had no idea!

    19. Hi I just wanted to spam my Okita wearing his new outfit today. My friend and I went to the local park and took some pics of our dolls today. I hope you like him
      [IMG]

    20. I saw this today as well. I pray they will do online FCS or something to that accord. I love Volks and I will continue to buy from them but it is hard to come up quickly with funds for their LEs on such short notice. In the past I have managed it but I am trying to get a hold of my finances. I only live a days drive from Volks LA so I can just drive up there to do a FCS if needed. I am sort of excited to see what they will offer. As long as they dont stop producing dolls for good I will be happy.

    21. Yurikun, he looks super handsome in that outfit!

Thanks for posting the announcement here, nakitaninja. I barely glanced at it when it went up... Seems pretty cut and dry to me. I can't say I'm all that surprised either. As far as we know, the Super Dollfie line is a tiny part of Volks' revenue (probably the smallest honestly), and the standard line is the smallest part of that niche, right?

Also, Kino and I want to take this opportunity to enable anyone whose been on the fence about getting a Sara or Megu. ;)

    22. Maybe they're reducing the Standard line up to the more popular ones and adding in Online FCS?
      \

    23. This! I also hope for this! ^^ An online, internationally available FCS service would put strawberries on my cake! :D

    24. I was kind of confused when I first read the news too, it seemed to me like another renewal of the standards but I guess not
I really hope they don't discontinue them forever, these are such classic dolls

adding to the F-01 spam with my Megu, Nadeko

Some new thread spam of my F-20, Henry. :)

    26. So, Volks is discontinuing all of the standard models!

I actually find this hopeful- I'm hoping they relaunch them with the SDGr and Midi bodies as the standard.

Although I could be entirely wrong and they will simply discontinue everything and leave everyone to fight for limited edition dolls in the lottery and second hand market...

    27. "YOU -- buy more Megus -- NOW!"

Tabitha weighs in on the discontinuation discussion, as well as adding to the 4 sisters spammage. She's my little piss'n'vingar 13-year-old; still has her 2005 default face-up, with 18mm eyes and eyelashes the only change.

solitary agent, your Henry is darling -- we need to see more F-20s!

    28. My Syo/Show, Himiko insists that everyone should love on the older girls and boys! And if you have the ability to give one a loving home, do so!

    29. I cant wait to see what they do next.

    30. Wow really glad I bought my Megu when I did I do hope if they are going forever then everybody gets the doll they want in time. Though I am kind of excited to see what they bring out next, I agree an online FCS would be epic.

    31. Even having some more info devoted to FCS on the Volks website or DollfieDream.net would help promote the line. Most buyers rely on owner photos to make their choices, but there just aren't very many photos available of the FCS dolls. Even if they didn't have online ordering all the time, an event of some kind like an FCS fair that would allow online ordering for a few days would be so great.

    32. Hi guys!

I'm really really unsure if I can post this here, but I think you guys might have the best idea what this is.
I saw this the other day on taobao. It looks like legitimate Volks. What even is this ahaha and any details on it?

    33. clowve, I saw that, too, and laughed so hard! I think it's from an anime or manga, but I can just think of all the terror it would bring to my dolls if I were to make them wear it.

I am absolutely loving all the SD Standards spam! So fantastic! :D

    34. Oh, no problem! I always assume people on here are about a million more light years informed than I am. Thank you to the mods for updating the thread and the links, etc. :)

Kino, Tabitha and Nadeko absolutely floor me. I have an F-01 girl (Una) because I fell in love with the 2008 SE Megu. I have loved a lot of Volks dolls but the F-01 keeps coming back over and over again. She is so lovely! Gah. I wanted another SDGr girl but it looks like I might have to 'man up' and pick up a Megu.

I also agree with you, St. James. Absolutely any information about the FCS online from Volks themselves would be really nice. I know Volks wants people to shop for an FCS in person but how can you know what they have available other than trying to search DoA (thank god DoA is here) and somewhat out of date AngelDen.net (<-- also very thankful someone puts in their own personal time and money to keep up). I didn't even know that the F-32 was available until I got to the sumika and then the pressure was on- well, in a good way. ;)

Planning your next doll can be tough!

I remain excited/hopeful to see what comes next. The DD standards are brand new and I don't think the idea of standard editions are going away so perhaps they are just revamping the SD SE lines to reflect all the fabulous design changes made in their dolls.

    35. Well, it looks like my dream dollie will soon be coming home to me (at least her head will be, body will be later). :D

I will soon have my very own Belle! *happy dance*

    36. I suppose this is what I get for never acting on getting my Elena sooner. :( I really hope they are 'updating' the standard line, and will bring them back but it's anyone's guess if they'll be back or not.

      I really wish Volks had their own database for FCS too. I appreciate who puts up Angelden, but I know they haven't had much time to keep it updated. At least if Volks had their own database they could upload pictures of each model, especially rare models that you hardly see owner photos of...and possibly do open online ordering periods. I suppose we'll see what Volks has up their sleeve. I really should work on getting standards before LE's ^^;;;

    37. My contribution to the Volks standards spam is my Megu, Sky!

    38. She's beautiful, Lady Kanna! I love the hands you put on her, so cute and versatile! And that little smirk/smile is perfect!

    39. I think the FCS line also suffers because the prettiest molds aren't available outside of Japan and therefor require a shopping service to obtain. But Volks seems pretty solvent honestly. Most of the lotteries sell out very quickly and quite a few people can't buy the dolls directly. I know I've lost every single lottery I've ever entered save one, my Pearl.

I do think they could offer something like an International FCS for blank dolls. I heard from a Volks employee that most of their returns/requests for redoes/complaints are from FCS dolls. BUT I don't think they will ever offer that. Volks doesn't change quickly.

With luck most of the standard models will return with updated bodies! Which would be great! Although I imagine they will also come with a price hike as well. Isn't the SDGr boy body already a Sato FCS option? Maybe that will be extended to the Sumika's as well soon! Along with the girl body.

    40. Haha thank you Turbow! :aheartbea Where can I find it? Is it available on Volks website? I'm unsure about buying it from anywhere else.

    41. I believe it will be available next month along with Volks's next collection, October perhaps.

    42. Exactly! When I decided I was going to make the trek to LA to buy an FCS, I was very disappointed in how spotty the information released by Volks actually was...I had to rely a lot of owners (which I found lots of, thanks!) Just posting that catalog that they have in the showroom would be awesome.

Agreed....while trying to figure out which molds were even an option for me, I ran into lots of owner photos that I later traced to being Japan only, and was very disappointed. Again, that dang catalog should be available! I can't think of a single reason why they couldn't have that listed so that people can be prepared when they go in to order.

    43. While its a few years old now and a little out of date the book "Hello Dollfie" has a list of all the FCS heads, with a blank thumbnail, as well as a list of all the standards! Seeing my F29's picture in that book actually pushed me over the edge.

    44. I think what would help the most is less complaints about the faceups and he like on FCS, with less particular customers, I think it gives way for better service for everyone, and less complications so that an FCS service could be available online, maybe as a monthly, or even biannual thing? I also think that Volks was always under the idea in a romantic sense that making these dolls should always be a very personal thing and so should be done in person, however that notion shuts out such a huge portion of customers who would cherish the dolls just as much from online ordering. Oh well, we will just have to wait and see?

I adore everyone sharing their standards and standard related photos! Maybe I will one day get my F01 boy, I think that may be a year or two off right now though.

    45. It's interesting to hear about the returns in FCS. That's the nature of the service though, some customers just won't be satisfied with what they get because they don't have the language skills to describe what they want. It's a very common retail problem. I definitely imagine an online FCS system that is either no face-up or with a menu of standard face-up options like they had a very long time ago. That way there would still be some incentive to place an order in person - to get a custom face-up and a personal consultation.

    46. Hello everyone,

This is my first time posting in the Volks SD thread and I'm also loving everyone's photos. Megu was one of the first BJDs I'd ever seen and I'm sad to hear that the standards are being discontinued. I've had my eye on SD13 Rinon for years so maybe now is the time to get her.

    47. Oh my goodness, Hera! Mai is simply divine. Look at her pose! :D Good grief, I love the F-26 face. It is one of my FCS dreams to have someday~

Yes, Talolili- it seems as though now is the time to buy that SE you've had your eye on. One of my utmost favorite Rinon is Tetradeka's girl. You should check out her photo threads if you haven't seen them before or maybe she'll be kind enough to post some pics here. ;)

    48. Funny, this is my first time posting in this thread as well :P The four sisters head (In particular, Megu) was always, always the one who caught my eye. There's something about her I can't quite place, she just entrances me! But I never took the plunge to actually get her.

Then Volks announces the discontinuation, and so....Megu is officially ordered! :) I also got an outfit I've been eyeing for quite some time that I hope will be perfect for her. It was my first time ordering from Volks, and she will also be my first Volks doll, man am I excited..

    49. Can Megu or Nana wear 18mm eyes? I'm just curious, since originally when I saw SD I saw a Megu on ebay years ago before I got into the BJD hobby.

    50. Judging that Megu is the same mold as my Una, 18 mm and 20mm would work best, but if you have 16mm with low dome they might work.

    51. Congrats on your first Volks doll, Shawnee. My first resin Volks doll arrived earlier this month but he's a mini sized doll.

    52. Cool, thanks for the info fransyung! I do have some 18mm eyes here now and I think they are huge!

    53. I've been summoned! *poof!* Here is a picture of Rhiannon looking unreasonably adorables. And thank you SO much for such an amazing compliment! :D
      [IMG]
      Rhiannon by designbasia, on Flickr
      I loooove her to death.

Beautiful girl! f-26 has been on my wish list for a while too, and yours is gorgeous.

    54. Oh shoot! I read the announcement on the discontinuation of the standard models! I gotta get off my lazy butt and actually get one for myself... I've been eye-ing a Kun for a few years..................... Now just gotta... You know give in to my Volks obsession and disregard all common sense!

Be right back... Living off cup noodles for a month!

    55. I've read a several threads, on Flickr and in the photo request thread, regarding people's satisfaction with FCS faceups and I'm surprised that Chehime's friend says that there are a lot of complaints and returns - nobody that has posted anywhere that I can find says that they had a negative experience with the FCS faceups! I would think that if this is a common problem, I'd find more feedback about it. I'm very worried now...before I had only heard positive things about FCS faceups...I hope mine comes out good. Lol you know what I just realized? I never thought to check the Volks feedback thread! Maybe there is some insight over there...EDIT: Ok, I read all the feedback threads...only 4 were specifically for FCS dolls, one was negative because of customs fees, one was negative because of shipping problems, one was satisfied, and one, from 2009, talked in length about being unsatisfied with the faceup. Its just real strange to me that if this problem is so common, why aren't there more records of complaints?

    56. I should post in the Volks feedback thread. My FCS faceup was exactly what I ordered, to the T.

    57. Thank you so much <3 That's awesome you got your first one recently too :D

And, I can't believe it, but, I just bought Megu and her clothes on the 24th (yesterday) and they are already shipping her! I expected....I don't know, at least 10 days? I know the dolls are in stock I just didn't expect it to be so fast XD I don't even have shoes for her ;-; She is scheduled to be delivered on October 1st!

    58. Shawnee- Please do a box opening if you can, I am debating on getting her or the SD13 Yori, I really can't decide. On another note with FCS....my F-36 is exactly what I wanted and I have him with Genji faceup and Volks did a wonderful job with it!
