[Adopted] Unoa discussion thread Part 1

Nov 9, 2005

    1. Jesmoth your Unoa is very unique! I think is one f the most original and pertty Unoas I've ever seen!

    2. OMG, She's sooooo pretty! :fangirl:

    3. jesmoth: oh! what a beautiful work are you doing in your Sist, love the detail in the nails and the way you painter her superiol lip :3

    4. jesmoth: Sigrun is lovely with her dark eyes and hair. Great job on the faceup!

Laurmann2000: Both your girls are so cute. I love the way they dress!

wonton: *eep* that's a wonderful room! All the little details are so perfect.

Oh, thanks so much, dollswest! I really appreciate your sweet comments - it's very encouraging! And of course I'm super glad someone liked the outfit and bid on it already! :D

    5. That room is so adorable!! :fangirl: (I know, three days ago, but I just saw it...)

    6. Thank you Zozolala.

    7. I put my Sist together a few days ago, but I noticed that on her left arm, the joint bit does not fit very well within the socket.

      I took some pics.

I don't think the stringing is too tight (I redid it two times). Has anyone else had this problem?

    8. Are you sure that you removed all the extra resin left from the mold? It looks like there is something on the back of the elbow piece preventing it from seating properly.

    9. Did you use the recommended elastic length in Kittywolf's assembly tutorial? There is a link to her tutorial in the first post of this thread.

      Carolyn

    10. I would just check to make sure there isn't a piece of resin in there. But I'm sure you've done that. Is the other arm the same way or does that one fit better?

    11. Such a lovely pictures you have posted here. Keep going guys!;)

I spent my Saturday by making faceups for my Coraline and the two faceplates I just got from mail for her. I´ll post pictures tomorrow when there is more light; right now the darkness is so deep that you would need to have a big foto studio and even bigger lights to get even decent pictures, hehee!;)
      The winters of Finland...:sigh

      But tomorrow it is then!

    12. SilverNyx - did you check for the little letters R and L on the tiny elbow pieces when you installed them? You probably did but I remember they were faint or hard to find. I looked at my girl's arm and the piece fits similarly, elastic looks the same, but my girl's arm does not pull that way. One thought - could that one arm be too tight? If you correctly measured the elastic's knotted loop length as in the tutorial, where is the knot positioned and is that arm tighter than the other? Is the knot caught up against anything? And one other idea - try to compare your two elbow pieces - is there anything different about one versus the other (is the elastic slot narrower on that one, any difference in the shape, etc.)

Ruusu - Is your girl named after Neil Gaiman's book Coraline? Can't wait to see your faceplates.

      Carolyn

    13. SilverNyx: my girl's left arm does the same thing. ("her" left, "our" right.) it shouldn't prevent anything epic from happening unless you want her arm to be perfectly straight. even so, my girl's arm straightens easily with a poke or two.

(and yes, I did put the R piece on the R arm, and so on. there's nothing wrong with the way she's assembled, it could just be a quirk.)

anyway, an omake for you, my sweet little ducklings:

    14. OK I never though I would be posting in this thread, but here we go. This is my Unoa Sist named Misa-chan. I had her up for sale, but decide to give her a second chance. Things are not going very well but we are both doing our best to like each other. Today my firend Memole came and took these wonderful pictures of Lora. She also let Lora to borrow some of Mio's clothes, because she is naked atm:sweat

    15. paperbot, that is such a cute picture of your girl .. looks like she really enjoys her drink

darkangelxix, Lora is beautiful! I love her faceup, eyes, wig.. she is all around wonderful :fangirl: May I ask.. what size eyes are you using and what color?(are they gumdrop eyes)

    16. To everyone: Thanks. <3

Nope, there is no extra resin, I sanded her all down when I got her. It could be the placement of the knot in her stringing, but I just checked then, and the lengths of the leftover elastic is equal and the knot is in the middle of her torso.

I measured the string twice when I strung her twice, so I hope to god it's not the length 0_0

Her right arm sits perfectly, it's just the left that doesn't seem to fit in the socket...

      right arm ->>

I'm just trying to figure out if I should just widden the socket so her arm sits properly.

    17. paperbot: I love your girl! <3 She's uber adorable. :]

darkangelxix: I'm glad you're having Lora around with you longer! <3 Hope the bonding will deepen and she'll stay with you. :] I like her colour scheme of blondes and golden/copper. Very warm girl. <3

Silver Nyx: D: My girl's right arm's perfect too, just her left arm's pretty slack. I've no idea why this could be because usually both sides should be working the same way. Also, my girl favours leaning towards her right, and her legs seem to be of different lengths. =__=;; My girl's pretty loose. I use the measurements given in the AL manual. I guess I've to tighten her more because she can't sit straight.
The picture looks a little like how my girl's slack left arm looks. The upper arm and lower arm (together with its joint) doesn't stick nicely with the upper arm due to slackness in the stringing. T___T I hope we can both solve these problems soon. As a newbie to stringing, i've no idea what's wrong and what can be done to improve.

    18. Sometimes the stringing can get pinched in the various joints or the two halves of it get uneven during stringing. If one side is tighter than the other, it sounds like this is what's going on. Pulling on her joints on both sides to encourage the elastic to slide around and even up might help.

    19. The measurements in Kittywolf's tutorial are different from the AL manual - they were originally posted by another DoA member as working better that the AL lengths (I believe they are a bit shorter). A couple of people who already had Unoas changed (retied?) their elastic to the new lengths and were more happy with the tension.

    20. Thanks everyone for your warm comments about my girl:)

RavnsvartMy avatar is modeled after a musedoll Ciel, but the color scene seems similar to Lora's so yeah, you are right she looks like my avatar. Maybe I will try to get her some curly wigs and an eye patch:)

Carolyn.SThe clothes and wig she is wearing are ~*memole*~ 's. I just borrowed them for a while:) You better send her a pm and ask her:)

BeatrixThese are pupiless gumdrops, 12mm copper sparkle.

    21. Yeah, going to have to undo her and re-string her, again.

      Sigh.

Though I was going to have to do that anyways. I had to use Testors on her, as finding MSC in Aus is like finding Kiwi fruit in Antartica, and it is attracting dirt horribly. And I haven't even being handling her very much.

Expressing so much hate at Testors.

    22. Now I managed to take some pictures of my Coraline´s new faceup. This is my second time painting a makeup. I also gave her a french manicure.;) She has two new facial expressions too; the winking- and sleeping faceplates.

I apologize the blurryness in some of the pictures!:sweat

      But on to the piccies!:

    23. I got a lusis in the preorder but after seeing all the wonderful sists i brought my newest baby from the great tinybear:). Heres melissa grant, shes not quite finished yet her gumdrops and jeans havent arrived yet.
Ill have to post my lusis, ava soon also:),

    24. Ruusu - They are all very lovely! And I like your manicure a lot - I love how natural it looks!

aya22 - Little Wendy really looks like Aya's child!

      Kyliebee - Melissa is gorgeous!

      Carolyn

    25. Wow! What super photos posted!! I must admit I don't get here as often as the Narae thread. But, good news, I am almost finished with Zac, my b-el kit. I was excited to get him, then got so wrapped up with my new Narae that he took a back burner. I charted a Harry Potter sweater for him and was excited to knit it up, but I needed him put together first!

I will string him today. Then make some clothes. Hope to have him ready for showing soon!

Anyway, it is always fun seeing all the great work everyone is doing.

    26. My computer got wiped two weeks ago so I don't have any photo editing programs except for microsoft paint, but heres the first pictures of the near complete ARGOS (He may never be done XD)
He's on a new Kid dollmore boy body, I really have to take some better pictures after I finish his new faceup. Oh yeh, and those wings were stolen from a 1/100 Wing zero custom model.

    27. Congrats. Melissa is beautiful. Can't wait to see her with your Lusis.

Can't wait to see your new boy. Speaking of boys, I just restrung my Narin and he's so much better now. I need to post some pics of him with my Unoa.

I like the name Argos. The Dollmore body seems like a good match. Thanks for sharing your new boy with us.

    28. thank you everyone for your compliments on Novacaine. <3 her ego is getting pretty big now with all the kind words. xD

laurmann2000: yup, I painted the star, as I did the entire face-up myself. it's my best yet; I'm soooo proud. x'3

    29. Musashi-chan - He looks wonderful - I love the wings! And be sure to post him over in the Unoa Hybrids thread (link is in first post of this thread but I linked it below for convenience). I don't think we've had a Dollmore body male there yet.

And a question you could answer in the hybrids thread - what headback are you using, and did you have to sand down the Dollmore neck. One person said the Dollmore neck is a bit wide for the Kaye headback. I have a Dollmore girl body and plan to make a hybrid - I just would like to know about the neck and I wish they had smaller feet (they are 6.0cm aren't they?)

    30. My girl arrived today :D
      I'm so happy.
      *dances*

    31. I'm subscribed to the hybrid thread (thumbs up)
and the headback I was using was one I made my self out of super sclupy, which actually broke when I put it on the body because I added onto it. So when I have the time I am going to make a new one. Also I'll go measure his feets real quick. Anddd yep they are just about 6 centimeters. About the neck, I based my neck on the unoa boy body chest neck and when I glued it back on to try it on the dollmore body it fit just fine. I'm currently taking pictures and what not of the body v. the head so every one can have a good idea of the resin match as well, when I'm all done I'll post my findings in the hybrid thread.

    32. Thanks laurmann:), looks like im going to be selling my lusis face plate after being with my sist, im in awe of her. Also her wonderful gumdrops arrived heres a quickly showing them off:).

    33. Kyliebee, your sist is beautiful. And you are selling her???

I don't know if it is my provider, but sometimes I sure have trouble moving around in this forum. It moves so slow that I just log out!

Anyway, I did finish my B-el kit, Zac, yesterday. I will post photos later on. I am not a boy doll fan but I wanted him to add to the family group. Everyone's boy Unoas just look so wonderful that I had to have one too!

He is growing on me. I must say, his body is a bit different than the girls. He seems smaller in the shoulders, has longer legs and different feet. So I will have to tweek my patterns a bit. I ordered the Narin boy shoes for him and they are great. I have not seen any nice tennis shoes in his size so he will probably just have these two pairs, one in black and the other is brown.

I found the 17 inch Tonner male doll clothes do not fit like I thought they would. The pants are a bit short and the shirts are too big in the shoulders. I do have him in a sweatshirt that I bought for my Harry Potter doll and it is okay, but it has raglan sleeves so the fit is better. Jeans are okay, but, again, a bit short.

I have his "Harry Potter" sweater charted and the yarn dyed. However, he really does not look that great in scarlet, so I will do it in gray and just incorporate the two other colors.

I also hope to find better boy doll wigs. I am not really happy with the ones I was able to find.

If anyone knows of a great source for boy wigs, please post. I would love to try some other ones.

    34. The Kaye headback is based on a Serendipity Sharmin neck so it actually fits necks that are slimmer than a real Unoa body's which seems to be all of the female bodies commonly used for hybrids except Dollmore. Dollmore neck is more like the thickness of a real Unoa neck so it would probably fit a real Unoa headback well, but not the Kaye headback.

      Carolyn

    35. Most crappy pic ever, but I couldn't wait to show my new girl.
She arrived today and I spent the whole afternoon stringing and painting her.

    36. I made a video showing the Unoa eye mechanism in action! It might be educational? Honestly I just made it because I thought it was cool. ;)

kyliebee: Your Sist is perfection! I'm in looove. :aheartbea
Smiling Doll: She is so sweet! Do you have a picture in color?

    37. Awww thanks
Yes I have one, but it's to bright because of the flash -_-
I shouldn't take pics in the middle of the night.

I will try to take some better tomorrow ^^

    38. She is lovely :love so glad she arrived safe and sound

    39. And then I also painted her other faces ^_^

    40. Jesmoth: there's so pretty what a lucky little girl you have!

    41. KylieBee - oh wow wow wow your Sist is GORGEOUS, who did her faceup ??

Smilng Doll - Congrats, your gal is really gorgeous too

    42. wonton - how the heck does the taping work when installing the eye mechanism? What kind of tape works, how many hands do you need to actually install it, etc.!

      jesmoth - they are great!

      Smiling Doll - she's a cutie!

Kyliebee - your Sist is stunning!

      Carolyn

    43. I'm falling in love with everyone's unoas here ^-^ ,

and I want to join this thread ,

because my Bittersüß wants to say "hello" =^.^=

    44. jesmoth: Awesome! They really all do look like the same girl. Good job!

Carolyn.S: I used white poster tack to hold the rods in place. I don't think any tape would work well at all. I think the trick is to really get the rods in there nice and solid so they don't move around. I'll make a tutorial of how I did it if you like!

    45. wonton - that would be great - and the tack makes sense because I was having zero luck with tape!

Gia - your girl is very dramatic! I love the coat on her too! And where did you find the wonderful kitty corset?

      Carolyn

    46. This is Zac. I really think he will be lots of fun. I am working on another sweater idea for him. Hope to get it done soon, along with some other new clothes!

    47. Gia and Smiling Doll, your girls are wonderful!! Quick question - the faceplates don't fit well on my new Unoas I got in the pre-order. Anyone else having this problem? I can't see where they are different than my 1.0 version that fits perfectly. Thank you!

      Penny

    48. Penny, I'm not sure what the problem is either, but I am having the same problem! They can be made to fit, but they don't fit as well as the older 1.0 and 1.5 bodies that I own.

I'm not sure if the faceplates that came WITH these two bodies will fit on them well, because they're still off getting painted. If I come up with a solution, I'll be sure to post here in the thread!

    49. A few pics of my new girl (face-up by Lyn_R) . . . introducing Renata!

      -- A ^_^

    50. Thank you Carolyn ^-^ .

It is really a mix and match ^-^ : the kitty chain is a mobile phone chain ,
the corset is from a Madame Alexander doll and finally the coat is from
      a Tonner doll =^.^= .

    51. Ashbet - I love Renatta - she's perfectly sweet! I recognize her slacks as Mio - are her tops also Mio?

Enmi - Adorable shot of Baby and cute undies! Where did you get the wild socks?

      Carolyn

    52. Aww, thanks, guys!! :aheartbea

Carolyn, the plum-colored top is from Mio, the pink top/dress is made by Bliss/Softly She Walks ^_^

      -- A <3

    53. I like the idea of them looking really different, so here is Zoe (Lusis), your basic rocker chick

Then in a softer palette, lil' Miss Romantic, Elizabeth (Sist).

      Thank you for looking!

(Tops by Joyce W., skirt by Softly She Walks and jewelry & faceups by me)

    54. Beatrix, I use both, airbrush mainly and pastels for touch ups ^_^

I got my second Lusis today, and while I still need to blush her before doing the face up I did her o-face in the meanwhile.

    55. Carolyn.S : They are made from childerns socks that i bought in a regular clothes-shop. You can find all sorts of cute patterns and colours in the childs department and then you just sew small socks out of them by adding one seam. Super simple. ^__^

jesmoth: oh, my, goodness! I loove her eyeshadow! Such subtle colours but they really stand out anyways. I wish I could handle airbrushing tools :3

    56. jesmoth: Homg. Your girl is amazing. Her eyes are SO gorgeous~ T-T

    57. Here is a really important question that will judge the fate of 100$ Do another space clothes fit and/or look well on Unoas???? I saw some lovely pieces on dollmore.....
