I have a Lusis, named Helly, and she is my first large doll. I had a Pocket Fairy before her, but sold it to raise Unoa funds. She is my dream doll, and I just love the way she poses, the way she's sculpted, and her funny little face. I think the optional faceplates are a great idea, and I've gotten all but one of them from Yahoo!Japan.

Everytime I look at her, I smile. :D

      Helly!

    2. I'm so excited. I got her last Saturday. Obviously this was the best trade ever (for both of us). I've not been able to post pictures since the forum changed so I hope this link works. Nevermind that first picture, it was a joke for someone else (trolls, heh).
      http://www.bellarepaints.com/Pregopics.htm

Little Lusis needs some work. I have the big bust to add and she is going to get sanded, wired, sueded. I am going to leave her face because it's just so perfectly done (even if red lips aren't my thing) and I just couldn't take it off. I'll be on the hunt for more faceplates to paint up. So here I sit, wanting to get to work on her and not finding a spare minute to do so. I've been scouring the internet for wigs, clothing, shoes, LOL! I'm utterly hopelessly addicted to her.

      Cindy H
(my siggy still goes, I already really want a Sist too, LOL!)

    3. I have an 1.5 Unoa Lusis named Mikki, she came with her present faceup. I purchased her from Y!Japan in August.

Unoa Sist came in October. Her name is Callie and she is 1.0. I wanted to wait for a pre-order but I got a smoking deal on this Sist, and paid about the same. (but no box).

I acquired an "O" faceplate from a DOA member and place on a Serendipity body. (per Tinybear). She was created in November and her name is Nora.

I adore the Unoa molds and could have a whole army of them! They are photogenic, easy to pose, and so cute.

    4. I've got a Lusis, named Basqui. She's a 1.5, and I just love her poseability. I was lucky enough to get her as an early christmas present, and she pretty much comes everywhere with me. Apparently the oils of my skin react badly to dullcote, so her faceup has been coming off since I received her! I'm getting some MSC sometime this coming week, so when isla arrives, they'll both be getting faceups.

I definitely want to get more unoas; ideally I'd love to get a sist, and a body with a grimace/bully face on it (all your fault, brennil! i love helly in her bully face!).

    5. I finished stringing my Sist on Saturday night, and it's love love love.

I got her on Y!J in early October for more money than I meant to spend (I think that's all too widespread here, though, am I right?) and ever since have been stealing half-hours here and there to carefully sand her seams. Then I got a couple of hours and some good warm weather to coat her and suddenly... she's all together.

Before getting her, my only BJD was a Cutie Delf Cory, who I adore... but... well, tinies don't have the range of mobility that makes larger BJDs (for me, anyway) so fascinating.

My Sist settles into poses. She folds her hands. She gestures. Stylishly. She sits like a dream (like I knew she would, but... wow!). She is so holdable and posable I find myself fiddling with her all the time. And she doesn't even have a face-up or wig yet. Or a name.

Here's the photo I have of her.

She's wearing an outfit from Brennil's "Her Delicate Strength" here and "Little Prince" Mini Fee shoes from Luts which fit both with and without socks just great.

I was going to rant about her in my LJ but thanks to this thread, I am doing it here instead. :)

    6. Er, so I have a kind of a question for everyone. Does your faceplate sit flat against the rest of the head? Did it go on easily? Mine didn't. Is this something I need to live with, or should I look at doing some more sanding on the grooves either on the back of her head or her faceplate to search for a better fit?

    7. Shes amazing. How tall is she?

    8. Nice idea opening this thread Brennil ;)

I have an Unoa Lusis 1.5 bought in the last preorder and sheis absolutely fantastic my dream doll ^^

I love my girl, her body is like a dream everything that she wears look fantastic enjoy a lot sewing for this cuties :3

Here is my girl, her name is like my nickname Flonne

Cant wait to order my Sist I'm really impatient with the new ordering system ^^

    9. I have a Unoa Lusis 1.0 I got off Y!J, her name is Baba Yaga. She's my sweet, lost angel.
And then came the preorders and along came Bowie, a Sist 1.5. She basically wears what Baba doesn't wear, so she has a mix and match style that I quite like.

      The two of them:

The same, swapping clothes and wigs:

I also have two optional face-plates (sleeping mod, bully) and, to answer Gelfling's question, THEY DON'T FIT AT ALL! Not on the 1.0 body, not on the 1.5 one. I'll have to sand them I guess.
Also Bowie's face plate tends to come off a bit easily these days.

As for the body, I much, much prefer the 1.5 version for its posability. Sure the elbow parts don't look too great, but if it means better posing, bring it on! The posability (or lack of) of the head on 1.0 body is also a nightmare.

    10. I got my two girls in the last preorder, Tinka (Sist) and Jinx (Lusis). I've waited for over two years for them to come home, and I adore them. They're all I hoped for and so much more. Their face and body sculpt is my absolute favorite, they pose wonderfully, and they are a joy to sew for. They can just wear anything.
They're sitting on my desk all day and keep me company. I don't think I will ever get tired of just looking at them - their cute faces always make me smile.
And they are so different from each other!

Tinka is the more serious one, eager to learn, and a tomboy at heart. She's very dreamy though, and easily distracted by raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens.
Here she is in one of her favorite clothing styles:

Jinx is heartbreakingly sweet and goofy. She loves to sing and dance, and asks you 94,367 silly questions each day. She often reminds me of Juliette Lewis in Kalifornia ^^
It's very likely you'd see her run around the house, dressed in nothing but a funny shirt and frilly rhumba panties, wearing her goggles.
Here's Jinx in her big sister's (Elfdoll Sooah) jeans:

Here they are with their pet raccoon Rip, all dressed up for Christmas:

    11. I have maybe the only Unoa-Bluefairy hybrid ever. xD Her name is Chotto Novacaine (Nova for short; her name means "a little Novocaine"... I spelled it wrong on purpose).

Nova is a 1.0 Lusis faceplate with a head hand-made by myself on a newskin BlueFairy Blossom body. Her facial skintone is a lot paler than her body, so I have to carefully blush her each time I give her a new face-up... which is often, as I am still new to this and practicing face-ups. The face-up I gave her a couple days ago is so far my favorite and will probably be her last for a while.

(Her current face-up is different and much cleaner-looking. If I hadn't stupidly dropped my camera on the kitchen floor, I'd be able to take new pictures... >__>; )

Nova is my sweet, random little girl. When she was first completed, she was a little bratty, but she's calmed down. She loves cute things and having random fun, often exclaiming weird things like "RAWRRR I'M A GIRAFFE!!!" and the like.

She's currently an only-child with one cousin, a BF Jerome named Daisuke. :] She really likes Daisuke, but Daisuke is very quiet around her and seems to ignore her sometimes. I think it's because she's a girl, and he doesn't like girls... if you get what I mean. xD

Someday, I'd love to have a Sist, a B-El, and an L-Bi to go with my pretty girl. <3 I love Unoas and Lusis was and is my dream doll... it's cool I was able to have her as my first doll. <3

    12. I got my Lusis on Yahoo!Japan. I got a membership with Celga, a shopping agency that buys things for you from places in Japan that may not have English service or international shipping. If you see something you want on Y!J, you send Celga an email and they bid on it for you.

I have the bully, "O", Lusis wink, and sleeping faceplates and they all fit on my Lusis, to one degree or another. There are small gaps on the sides (hidden by her wig) and a couple require some gentle but firm pressure to snap into place, but they all do fit.

I couldn't agree more about the posing - Helly is a natural model.

    13. At first I found the faceplate thing kind of awkward and also had difficulty taking it off and putting it on, but it gets easier as you do it more. Just be quite gentle!

    14. It is also trickier to paint than a complete head, since there really isn't much to hold on to. But that too, gets easier with practice. On a side note, the Unoa2s don't have face-plates, instead they are set up like Unoss.

      Sera~

    15. I'm not entirely sure yet... probably some additional exprssions much like the optional faceplates already available... and some of my own faces too. I also want to make some for the Limwha ForYou since she has a faceplate but no options yet! It seems like a good start for someone who wants to make their own doll. I'd make option ears and horns and things too, since its so hard to get the ones that Araki has made. They'd also be cheaper than the after-market prices for what Araki has already done. I'm so excited about even getting started on it!

I thought the Unoa2s did have faceplates? Since the DollyHoney and Sweet faces came with the preorder dolls and you can buy Mocha and Cream faces separately as well on Y!J... Am I mistaken and that's a whole head instead of a faceplate??

    16. I got my B-El a week ago and finally took him out of his box yesterday :) He is completely adorable and i love him to the bits.My only problem is his head...Actually there is nothing wrong with his head, but it's too small O_o...I was like;"OMG,is that really his head??" when i first held him XD When i put him next to my Indigo i can see the size difference and it makes me laugh XDD
He is also a little skinny...I really don't know where to buy clothes for him from :p

    17. The Unoas have heads a bit more in proportion to their bodies, so the dolls like DoC and MNF will look - not quite matched next to them. :) Unoas and Narins and Supia and all take 6-7 sized wigs instead of 7-8 like most minis.

As for clothing. Well, there is the high-end Mio stuff, really gorgeous, although expensive and a bit of a wait for it. Eganzi is a seller on Ebay who often has cute outfits, and sometimes they could suit a boy - there is a really cute trenchcoat set on ebay right now that could easily be a boy's outfit. Or - there's, um, me. :blush I hate to seem like I'm advertising, but when my Narin arrives I will be branching out into boy's clothing as well.

Some folks have also had luck with Tonner clothing, but I haven't done any research there...

    18. It's also very likely that MNF clothes fit Unoa boys, but I haven't tried so I can't guarantee it. I know MNF girl clothing fits, more or less.
Hopefully, with Unoa more easily available, we'll be soon be spoilt for choice as far as clothing is concerned! The situation has already improved compared to a year ago, I think.

And yes, Unoas have lovely proportions, they're quite slim :)

    19. I didn't know that his head was that small,so it was a little shocking XD

I was checking Mio's outfits...They are pretty but i guess i need to wait until she releases new stuff because almost everything is sold out (I checked her site for the first time today XDD) It really is hard to find clothing for boys...Hope you get your Narin soon...Your outfits are great and i really want one of those jeans for my boy (Lol, i really respect people who can sew that detailed stuff *bows* XDD)

    20. Lellytots, she's around 43cm tall. Her measurements are all here in the U-noa FAQ. Wow! Mercy has hugely updated the FAQ since I last looked! There are optional glasses for U-noa?!! *covert covet*

    21. They do have different faces...but I wouldn't call them faceplates. They are not easy to change...you have to unstring the whole head to get them off. I really don't know why Araki designed it that way. *_*

    22. I have a Unoa Lusis 1.5 named Esprit, a work in progress Unoa Mocha 2.0 named Hariko and hopefully soon a Sist Boy named Alystor (I think)

Here is Esprit in her box:

    23. Well I'm very interested in seeing a Lusis as Vegeta, I wonder what made you decide on Lusis instead of Sist.. or even a Unoa female for Vegeta ^__^

Unoa 2.0 - I did wonder about the head setup of these girls, too bad it's not easier to switch heads/faces! ><

    24. Esprit is lovely. Did you blush her body yourself? I am about to do one of mine this week. Any tips?

    25. thank you, yes I blushed her too ^___^ hmm tips.. I used different coloured pastels and mixed, sort of like you would do for painting, one of the first things I did was look online for real photos of bodies.. embarassingly enough my husband kidded wondered why I was looking at playboy magazine covers I found online..(they were in swimsuits) haha >< oh well.

I also blushed her joints, which, may not be the best thing to do because it wears away, and I read later on most people don't blush or paint there. Find a larger soft bristle brush, and have a smaller one for the nipple area. It's best to use lighter colours first and then add darker colours if you feel you need to. Also, spray before-hand, if you cake too much you can get most of it off with a clean/dry brush. If you still want darker colours, spray and add more pastel.

Also I placed each .. actually here are photos in my lj: http://maiaceleste.livejournal.com/5723.html
      http://maiaceleste.livejournal.com/6056.html#cutid1

Anyways it wasn't a professional job and my first time blushing. I used toothpicks to balance the legs while I blushed those (so I wouldn't smear) and placed them back on for spraying outside.. I'm sure there's some better way to do it though! haha I'm just a bit nuts. I used msc uv cut since testor's hates me.

lindsayscorner: your work is amazing, I wish someday to be able to sew almost as good as you! :)

    26. I have a question I know is addressed in the FAQ thread but I will ask it here to clarify... is the only difference between a Lusis & a Sist is that the Lusis has the open mouth & the Sist is closed? Is all else the same, such as the eyes etc? I read a lot of people quoting "I'm going to get a "Sist" or I want a "Sist?" Is must be more desirable, why? Question overload...

    27. the faces are different
      its down to preference :)
Sist has a closed mouth , Lusis open , there are differences in the eyes too

but both have the same body

    28. A Sist is only desirable in the eye of the beholder, and for those all who have Lusises.. Lusi? and wish for a buddy Sist :p I recall reading Lusis was more popular for umm male(?) collectors because she appeared more sultry/womanly while Sist was the tomboy. But it doesn't matter because Unoa's faces are so versatile. I'd like a Sist because at the time I could only acquire a Lusis, though I recall wanting a Sist.. don't tell Esprit that!

    29. I got this picture somewhere on the internet, so it is not mine. You can clearly see the difference between Lusis and Sist. Sist appears to have larger eyes, (at least in the pic). The Sist on the left is 1.0, the middle Lusis is 1.5, and on the right is the newer Unoa 2.0? Correct me if I am wrong.

      Hope that helps!

    30. Chops! Thank you so much for posting the comparison shot of the Sist and Lusis! I had always thought that my Lusis eyes were shaped the way they are because of the way the person who did her face up prepped her. Now I see it is "anatomical". Great comparison, should be posted in a Unoa FAQS section if we have one. I would like the pic for my own use if possible.

    31. I think I used to know, but now I've forgotten. Can someone refresh my memory on the difference between 1.0 and 1.5?

From what I can see in the picture, the color of the resin looks different. I'm also aware of the difference of the torso and chest (in the back, there's like a gap or something between the two on the 1.5, that 1.0 doesn't have).

    32. I'm really not going for extra posts here, honest. The 1.5 head is much more poseable as it has little clicks in the neck to hold a pose. In addition to the elbows being double jointed, the back has more poseability with defined notches to hold poses more easily. I haven't noticed the knee difference that is circled in the page that Aya22 referenced.

    33. Question for you all: I don't have a Unoa but am hoping to get one soon. How well would she match with a Narae?

    34. This thread lindsayscorner made should help you out, there are comparison threads for mnf etc as well. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76116&highlight=unoa+narae

You can always go into search, type unoa narae for title for the gallery section and you can see people's photos of both together ^__^ http://www.denofangels.com/forums/search.php?searchid=1468083

    35. Me too! :D I didn't think I liked them at first, but they grow on ya!

    36. I agree, I think it has more to do with personal preference - at first I only wanted a Lusis but once I got my Sist I have to admit I might like her a little more - I also think how the faceup is done makes a HUGE difference for each of the face plates. Either face you will be pleased!

here are pictures of my two girls - faceups/body blushing and photos by Kittytoes

    38. Bordercollie -
Unoa goes well with Narae. They both have about the same size head, same size wig, same size eyes, and very similar measurements (Narae's legs are longer and their very similar hip size is distributed a bit differently - Unoa has a bigger butt and Narae wider hips). They can share most clothes, most shoes, and can share wigs.

I hope to get a Unoa soon.

Here are some threads with Unoa and Narae together:

    39. Do they sell Lusis and Sist face plates seperately?

    40. They certainly have in the past. So, really, you could have a Lusis and Sist sharing the same body if you wanted!

    41. Char-Yeah. It's more like a body suit, but it's basically the same (just tighter). I'm not a sewing whiz and I certainly can't draft my own patterns, so finding a pattern as well as the right kind of fabric might be difficult.

And while I'm at it, I'll go ahead and ask. Does anyone know of any Unoa face templates I could use for practice? The closest thing I've found is a template of one of the Narae faces, which kind of looks like Lusis.

    42. Reiko: I forgot to mention the blank heads threads, it might help you (there's 10 pages so I didn't get the time to check if they had pics of unoa head but I'd assume so)
      here
Otherwise the only blank face plates I have are the bully, and the sleeping (though with eyes opened).

    43. I would suggest unoas to anybody: I'm so in love with mines! :fangirl:
      here's my Sist, Anais:

Reiko: wow, I'm in love with Vegeta too XD I wanted to cosplay my B-El as him, I'll let you know if I ever manage to make his wig :)

    44. Hm I was wondering if I started making boy Unoa clothing would anyone be interested? XD since I'm cutting fabric now anyhoo for some cute kimonos and whatnot....easier to get it all done at once....also would people prefer traditioal style where you have layers and tie everything or easy to do, pre-made to snap closed for easy to wear kinds (for boys and girls)?

    45. Char-Thanks for the link. If I find one, I'll try to fiddle with it in Photoshop (but my tablet skills aren't the best)

Died-I love your Anais. I like Sist heads that aren't painted to look like tomboys. Hehe. And here I was thinking I was the only person on this forum who liked him. ^.^

rillystar-I'd be interested. And as for the kimono, I could go with either type. I think the traditional style looks better, but the easy ones can be nice too, if they're done to look like the traditional kimono. Personally, I like to work with traditional kimono. It lets me get practice for when I "eventually" buy my own. XD

With the help of my mom, I made a yukata for my F-02 Sami using the pattern from Undead Threads, but it looks odd. Sami hasn't arrived yet, so I can't say if she'll look good in it or not. I think I cut something wrong and the sleeves ended up being pleated, because there was too much fabric for the sleeve.

      Anyway. I'm totally interested. =3

    46. *Died*...Im in love with your Anais! She's a beauty! Please post more pictures of her in the gallery. Did you do her face-up?

    47. Omg.. I LOVE Unoas! :D I have a Lusis whos name is Dori. She is just so cute!!! However, I thnk she needs a new face up. I want to adopt her sister sist too! Hopefully I can preoreder her next time. ^^ I have long demon horns coming in soon, so She is going to be my little demon! :aheartbea

      Any since people are posting pics of their lovely little girls and boys, ^_~ Here are some old photos my Beautiful girl Dori. Sorry no new ones yet b/c there are no new outfits. ^^;;

    48. Well I have my own Kimono and no one knows how to tie it so I have to do it myself XD Takes forever an a day and I can't get it tight enough if I want to spin it around after....I suck at trying to do it behind my back....

I personally prefer the traditional kind but I doubt that a lot of people will want to go through the hassle of tying the obi at the very least though I can offer the option with little set of instructions for a prettier type of obi tying than the 'older lady' simple style XD

The easy way kimono would already be sewn to look like a traditional style kimono with the fold over at the waist (or there abouts). I'd put a number of yukata and kimono on other people so I know how it all works XD Just need to grab my people sized patterns and scale down though there are some things I might not do (like the rounded corners at the front corner of the sleeve)

    49. rillystar- Hehe. It is rather difficult, isn't it? ^^;

I see. Well, either way, I'd probably buy it. I'm a huge fan of traditional Japanese culture, so I'm always looking for something that looks even a little bit accurate. I can understand if people don't want to take all that time and it can be less stressful not having to do so much work, just as long as it look nice.

And I rarely see any Unoa dolls dressed in kimono, and if they are it's either on a boy or it's modified in some way.

    50. Reiko Narita - I don't have a Lusis or Sist, so it'll be a boy's kimono/yukata in plainer fabrics, but I can also do the girly ones, just need to see what the diff would be in the body shape. If you really want to go traditional then I'll add the body padding you'd need to make her less curvy ;) Ideally for a traditional kimono you want to be more or less cylindrical shaped XD

    51. Just a question. I just got an L-bi and noticed that some MSD wigs were too small for his little head. :sweat What size would fit him best?

And does anyone know what eye size would work for him too?

    52. 6/7 I believe :) grats on the L-bi. My new B-el needs both a name and a new wig too XD

    53. Can I make a question?
Unoa owners... do you have to sand Unoa doll?

I see that new unoas came with a shiny resin (looks like a plastic doll >o<), so do you sand this little shiny layer to get a no shiny unoa skin?

    54. I believe the old 1.0 and 1.5 dolls came in kits that you assembled yourself. Not sure about 2.0. These you could sand if you wanted

To get a shinier finish you have you very very fine sanding blocks/paper and possibly a finishing spray (like Volks uses after they sand their dolls). However just using ultra fine sanding blocks/paper should help get the shinier finish if you want that :)

    55. i sanded my 1.5 and am in the process of sanding my mocha 2.0
the resin will always be more plastic looking, but some of the shine does go away. another option is to coat your doll with matte mr. super clear.

    56. I didn't sand my girl, but I did blush and coat her....wow, did that make a huge difference! Before, she looked shiny and "plastic-y" .... but now she's much more matte and her body now matches her head better. Plus, she can now hold more poses! I was pleasantly surprised by that! The resin has more tooth/grab after being coated, so her arms can hold more elaborate poses now. :)

    57. Wow! I'm going to remember this! It is a good advice! Thank you! :thumbup

How many final layers (I mean upper layers) of MSC did you make? I wish to know ^^o

    58. i've never minded the shine on my doll; my luts shiwoo shines similarly, and that's just from lots of love. she's usually wearing lots of clothes.

if you spray-coat the doll, wouldnt it scrape off at the joints anyhow? how would that end up looking in a few months?

    59. I sanded my Lusis 1.5 pretty thoroughly before assembling her. I used two grades of sandpaper, and finished with two coats of Testor's before blushing and coating again. The blushing has mostly worn off by now (I dress and undress her regularly) but her finish is still pretty matte.
